Want to try a non cm 11 ROM...how...??? - Kindle Fire 2 Q&A, Help and Troubleshooting

Hello...I'm running cm11 now...I wanted to try a different ROM like a amazon ROM...do I need to do anything special or just flash like normal...???...I really don't want to factory reset cause I don't want to have to start my tribes and castles game all over again...and how would I go about going back to cm11 if I wanted to...???...thanks in advance... ?

Um well you can make a backup in twrp and restore it, but what do you mean a non cm is, you want to flash back to amazon os? That would require a factory reset but if you no what you are doing you can just copy the appdata that has the game saves and paste them back! I just finished doing that quite a bit while upgrading from cm 10.1 to 11.

If you will use aokp the procedure is same as you flashed cm11

TWRP vs. CWM?

Can someone explain to me the pros and cons of switching to TWRP? I want to move to TWRP because it's new and shiny but I'm afraid about the part of the backups not being compatible with each other. Is there anything I need to know before I make the jump?

... if your going to use twrp and not switch back... its not really any different other than backups not being cross compatible... but so what if your stick to twrp.

Isn't TWRP only compatible with some roms though?

Nope you can inject twrp after flashing any rom or kernel to retain the recovery...

It's not compatible with some programs like rom manager and titanium backup, but can be "injected" into all ROM setups. I stick with CWM because I love the way I can name my own nandroids from rom manager. That's a deal breaker for me if I can't.
I use TWRP on my Kindle because that was the method at the time. Like mentioned before you cannot rename your backups which can get really confusing. I see no need to use TWRP over CWM, and personally wouldn't use it if you had CWM already installed. It would be like taking a giant step backwards IMPO.

I use TWRP mainly because it's easier to navigate.
Epic Ice Cream Sandwich
You can go into /sdcard/TWRP/backups/(ur serial number) and there will be a file folder that contains your backup all you have to do is rename it

Twrp is interactive, newer, a little easier to use as it is more straightforward.

If you rename a TWRP backup file TWRP will no longer have the ability to locate it. Or at least this was the case on my Kindle using the method described above.

Well, do you want a custom ROM, or do you want 100% unrooted stock without custom recovery or 2nd bootloader, because those are your two options.
I can't find a stock ROM compatible with twrp, just side load cm onto it and install it again, or use kffa to restore stock amazon os. I think restoring stock will get rid of twrp though just a heads up.

There are no stock KF ROMs for the KF2, there are only CM, PA or AOSP based ROMs. Flashing the stock update from Amazon will get rid of everything, including root, TWRP, and the 2nd bootloader.
So what would you rather have?
I want to go back to stock plz I tried flashing a bin 10.2.6 and renamed it as a zip but I get a error but I still have twrp and side loading but yes I want to go back to stock plz I have no os btw

Download the Kindle Fire 2 software update from Amazon
Rename it from update-blah-blah.bin to update-blah-blah.zip
Push it to your device
Factory reset!!!
Flash in recovery and reboot.
So download update file from Amazon and rename it as a zip OK good I'll try that but will I get a red screen btw that's why I want 10.2.6 so it will update and won't get red screen
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
Red screen is completely avoidable on an os higher than that, u just have to downgrade the bootloader first.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire HD running CM10.1 Tablet UI using xda-developers app
OK im gona try it in a bit so if I flashed that I won't get red screen because Installed twrp before that red screen update 10.4.6 or something like that. But I do have 10.2.6 bin file now gonna push it now

The update will replace the bootloader, recovery boot and system partitions with pure stock, so there's little chance of bricking...unless you forget to factory reset.
So factory rest now and then flash OK btw what will happiness if I don't do a factory reset and should I wipe cashe and davlick cashe and system

[Q] Flashing 4.3 ROMs'

I've flashed a few times on 4.3 roms and I want to know a way where I don't have to goto recovery and format data. I flashed a few before with TWRP 2.4/5. Now I have 2.6.3.0.. I'm running stock ZVC

So I'm guessing you want to bounce back and fourth installing stock and CM Roms without clearing data? Or different CM Roms for that matter.
I don't know much tech stuff, but every ROM is layed out differently. And stores it's info in different ways.
So a setting you have, for say Carbon might interfere with a setting in PAC.
That's my best way to explain it.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'll say be in a custom ROM and don't have to keep formatting data to use the ROM again
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
You could always get a ROM running the way you like, create a back up and then flash a new one and repeat. Now when you want to switch ROMs its as easy as hitting the restore button.

Do you mean you don't want to lose files on your SD card? You don't have to format data every time you install a new rom. Factory reset - > wipe system - > wipe cache -> wipe d cache -> flash rom -> flash gapps
This will keep your actual files on your sd card for every rom you bounce to. If you mean Application data (login info, candy crush progression, etc...) use Titanium and backup before flashing a new rom and restore after.
Hope that helps!
Once you are on CM official you can update easily through the tool in settings. But to switch back and forth from CM to stock is quite difficult on this phone.

Gapps isn't responding when restoring image on CW recovery please need help

When I restore my image the one that I backed up on CM recovery, my Samsung s4 reboots and turn on without no problem but when I put in my pin gapps pops up saying "unfortunately gapps have stop" and I click ok but it keeps poping up.
Please I need help

Are you restoring old data from and old rom install to a new rom install?
If so, you can't do that. Use titanium backup or helium for backing up your apps and data

It happens to me as well in my note 2 with cwm. I installed twrp instead. I haven't tried the restore yet though. Titanium backup was the best option for me
Sent from my SPH-L900 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
No I was runing cm11 and I wanted to go back to stock android so I did a nandriod backup before I flash anything. Now running cm11 i reboot into Cwm recovery and restore my backup image on my s4 which was TouchWiz 4.4.2 and when it reboot on, I unlock the phone and the pop-up keep showing up like every 5 second. So I can't do nothing because of this pop-ups
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda app-developers app
I will try to flash newer Gapps, if doesn't work I going wipe then restore
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda app-developers app
You cant restore your TouchWiz data partition to a cm rom
Sent from my Nexus 5
OK but I mean the nandriod backup is a image of my phone like how it was when I first root it, so if my phone go brick I can boot into recovery and restore my phone back to how it was before. So now I trying to restore my phone back to how it was before because I don't want to use cm11 until it is stable.

So let me get this straight.
You are using a device not officially supported by the Paranoid Android team, post in the Paranoid Android forum section, to get help going back to stock from cm11?
You realize that there is an entire section of the forums dedicated to your device?

You can get immediate help by going to your device forum and reading or asking there.
The PA team only officially supports Nexus and oppo devices. We can't help you with your s4

Downgrading from Lollipop.

I dont have any NANDROID backup, is it safe to flash 4.4.4 factory images on my Nexus without wipe knowing that it came from 5.0.1?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
Yes45. This is one of the main reasons to buy a Nexus.
Edit: create a backup of your apps and data using Titanium Backup now so you can restore them after you flash 4.4.4.
Wouldn't that create errors due to the different runtimes?

No because your device is wiped upon flashing 4.4.4.
The only way to flash it is to wipe. If you don't wipe, it'll give errors.
Oh thanks for the wipe. The apps installed while in Lollipop that were backed up using TBP will be able to use in KK wont give errors?
