From my knowlege a Kernel is what shares info between the operating system and cpu...its like the bridge between the two (correct me if im wrong guys, don't flame me lol)and to what kernel you should be using is all you're choice, every kernel has a different build...some for performance, some specific to a certain distro of linux...so do some research and pick the one which is recommended for the rom you're running.
Thanks for the info. What do you install first, the rom our the kernel?

Definitely decide what ROM you want to use first, then find out which kernels are supported. For example, I am on DamageControl 3.2.3 and running the DC Netarchy OC Kernel because it was tweaked specifically for the ROM.

Does it matter in which order you install the ROM and kernel though?

Most if not ALL ROMS include a kernel. So if you flash a different kernel, then flash the ROM, the different kernel you flashed will be lost. So in short; ROM then different kernel.
most of the roms contain a stock kernel. the custom kernels for most of the roms are actually forks from the GoDmOdE community kernel. most of the time netarchy and the others kernel devs do beta testing of their changes before informing me to pull them in to the mainline kernel. this takes all the bugs and repeated commits out of the mainline and works them out before they are pulled in.
Thank you.
Can someone tell me where to get the kernel 2.6.35.9-cyanogenmod??
Not the rom, but the kernel. And does it work with Miui rom?

If it's a kernel that was made for CM, I would REALLY not recommend using it for Miui.

The thing is I been using it with MIUI 0.12.11 because it stops the reboots and its so much better with battery life. But I completely forgot where I got it, and now I've updated to 0.12.24 MIUI and I have reboots like crazy and my battery life sucks. So I'm dying to find this kernel

haha, why not? the MIUI devs use CM kernel source anyway
Download cm and extract the kernel if that's possible then there you are

Small chance that Gorkhan will support S4

There is little chance that Gorkhan will support our phone. He mentioned in his SiyahKernel thread that he has already got too much Samsung Phones, and he might skip ours.

JazakAllah bro you're always helpful
This thread is dedicated to my CM11.0 builds that will be built whenever I get around to it which will be at least weekly.
When I build it, it's always synced to the latest CM source along with a few additional cherry picks that either add functionality or are bug fixes/improvements.
Download ROM
There are several gapps packages floating around. Since there are none at http://goo.im/gapps for Kitkat, I use these:
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=10306
As of the 12/18 buid, ART works with Banks' Gapps listed above.

So theoretically MMS should work fine?

The MMS fix wasn't merged as of the time I built earlier today so the initial build doesn't have the fix. The next build will have the fix though.
The tuna kernel doesn't seem to play nicely with the Sabermod toolchain. Whether I compile CM's or mine with the toolchain, it always reboots right when it's about to finish booting the ROM.

Maybe you could apply this fix to your ROM? I flashed it on a different ROM and it fixed MMS along with other framework issues

I'm not running this ROM right now, waiting to get home for WiFi to download.
I was just suggesting a fix for MMS problems.
Installed this last night, been playing with it all morning.
No problems so far... performs just as well as Tiny's 4.2.2 ROM. In other words, I love it.

Flashing without a different kernel causes a bootloop to the CM account setup screen. Flashing with your kernel works fine.

So I don't have a computer with me right now but could I flash the zip in Flashify or extract the boot img and flash that in Flashify? Also could I do this over my current rom without losing any information?

no need for flashify. It is a kernel only so it wont mess with your current ROM install. Just download and flash in recovery. It is in any kernel format so you wont see a boot img in the zip. It extracts the current boot img from your current rom, unpacks it(splits it into the kernel and ramdisk) and then repacks it with my kernel and the roms ramdisk. As with anything else, make a backup before flashing.
