Hello,
I installed a few days ago some custom ROMs and I have a huge problem. A huge battery drain. At first it was good almost 2-3 days with only texting, but a few days ago it started to go mad. The bettery fully charged last 17-20 hours turned off(sleep) with EVERYTHING turned off. If i use the phone even for a bit if i get 4h is good.
Tried to wipe and flash different ROMs and the same thing.
Also, if i want to go back to original, what do i need to do? I can't find something around, but maybe i'm just blind.
Thank you
LE: I installed the original soft 4.0.4 (but for Arc S Lt18i ftf ) ... and i still have this huge battery drain .. any ideeas?
Just from my experience, you can try Ultimate HD rom of jader13254 from thread below together with kernel lupus v6. I installed this rom for my arc, with daily use I can get 2-3 days or even 4 days.

maybe your sd is screwed somehow and the media scanner is keeping the cpu busy... try using an app like wakelock detector or betterbatterystats to find out what is eating your battery. try removing your sd and see if it helps, to exclude an sd problem.

since u tried different roms and the problem still exists then its not rom/kernel related issue ,, I guess (like keen36 said) that its probably sd card related problem , i had this problem some days ago and it turned out that some corrupted files were the problem so i just deleted them simply and then the problem was solved ,, see if you have some corrupted files or if u're not sure just format your SD card << hope I helped

Hi
since a few time my arc s is draining battery in airplane mode at night (20-30%). I am using Arconium 3c.
- So I tried to come back to Arconium 2.4 (it was ok before) : the same (20-30%)
- So I tried to turn off the phone and the same : the battery lost about 20% during the night.
The battery drain used to be great in airplane mode (2-3% per night) few months ago when I started using arconium. So I don't think it is because of this rom.
Maybe my battery is bad? Or something else?
How old is the phone
In wich interval you recharg it
Check out the battery usage under settings and look if you have installed any program that uses much energy from ur battery
I think the easiest way is to try the other ROM first. If this problem still occur, maybe you have to check your battery
I also had that problem but with this stay good:
Use this kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1680793
Use this Baseband
http://puu.sh/pAgX
Use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.sineo.android.noFrillsCPU
For me is the best option
Well, thank for your answers. So the phone is 6 months old and I don't understand why if I change my ROM or my kernel it would do anything? Because the battery drain occurs even if my phone is off. Is there a way to check is my battery is damaged?
Tonight I will try to remove the battery for the night.
PS: I checked that I have no weird application that is draining battery...
jap check what happens if you put the battery out for a night
but you should even check the other kernel

Well, I am back to Arconium 2.4 (with .562 firmware) so the other kernel would not work correctly as it is for 4.1.B.0.431, would it?
I guess I should try .431 based kernel if I come back to Arconium 3c.
I have tried battery mix to check if there were an app draining my battery when phone is truned on but nothing (appart from system android) seem to consumes much battery.
Ok
well but if you really want to know what i think i would say (not assure) that it depends on the rom cus some time ago i had a2 different phones (galaxy spica and galaxy gio) wich i flashed to spicagenmod and the gio to cm7 and i recognized that the battery usage increased in a huge amount
u say that even if you turn of the phone it seems to be that you get a loss of power in your battery
the spica often crashed and i had to restart it (used many experimental features)and after the restart i had a huge los of batery power....
some roms have problems updating you the current battery status and if you restart it it seems that it had taken much battery
if you really want to safe power you may search for a undervolted kernel
Hope that really finished ur problem =)
Ok I think I understand what you mean about the voltage. ie at 100% the voltage is about 4178mv and now at 41% the voltage is 3775mv (with battery calibration app). So it seems to be not linear.
So I am going to flash kernel as recommended previously. And Do I have to reflash rom and baseband after flashing new kernel?
depends on wheather the kernel works with ur rom
what do you mean? I flash new kernel, reboot phone and if it does not work, I Reflash the rom? Maybe it risks to brick?

I dont think that there is any risk and thats what i meant flash kernel check if it works if not reflash rom =)
Download betterybatterystats and see what is causing the drain, think iridika did a thread a while ago, lemme find it for you
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433309
Check what is causing the drain using that
I dont't think it would work when phoen is turned off..
And I am trying to flash kernel with flash tool and it does not seem to work, it is like I still got the previous kernel... any idea?
did u enter fastboot mode? did u get any error while flashing?
Yes, everything seems to work fine. Maybe I don't know where to check my kernel version.
go to settings..about phone...check about kernel.

Just an FYI
0% on the lithium battery is not 0v it is more like 3v or so... depends on the battery.
if a lithium battery measures 0v it is DEAD.

Hi guys.
I have a strange problem. My Gio charges from 3% to 100% in 3 minutes. It says fully charged...
Of course it's not real charging, if i unplug it, and start to play a game or just see my mails with wifi, it consumes that 100% on 5-10 minutes...
I've tried to charge the phone all night and the result is 2-3h of working time. If i use power consuming apps, like games, than it's just half an hour... I think that the phone stops somehow the charging process if it reaches to 100%.
I've tried to calibrate the battery, with program from market, and wiping batterystats from CWM too... It didn't help...
The strange thing is, that last week it worked well. Now something happened and it's ruinig my life...
I had THIS ROM when it started.
I've changed to THIS ROM, and it didn't solve the problem. All caches were wiped during flashing...
Any ideas?
Thanks for any help!

Hm you said you tried to calibrate the battery so it`s weird. I have sometimes the same problem but after a calibration it is fixed. I can only recommend to charge it overnight , make sure you`re not overclocking it , make sure you don`t use wifi , mobile data , gps , see if there`s an improvement keep it only with calls and messaging for 1 day see how that goes. Check also the battery maybe it has a spillage altough i don`t think that`s the case. Sorry that`s all i can say
Thanks for the advices.
I've just set the CPU governor to smartassv2. It was on Ondemand. Now I can discharge the phone with playing within 15 minutes. It's better than it was on ondemand...
I will try to use it like a regular phone, let's see how it works...

also remove any apps or games you have installed since you encountered this problem, I have tried enhanced rom it gives a stable battery life, but its worth changing to a different rom like cm 7.2 by phiexz, I am currently using it and it gives a good battery life.

I've a battery old as yours (04.05.2011)
With any custom ROM my battery life is of 3 hours...
With stock is kinda 5 hours with 2G connection activated.
I'm waiting for a new battery, but if you want to keep your phone alive up to then:
- flash a stock ROM
- install as few apps as you can (I've G+, Stream (FB client), FB messanger, Viber, WhatsApp, App Cache Cleaner, AppZorter and xda app, nothing else T_T)
- do NOT use kernel different from stock
- hope you good luck because first times battery will be strange, after some full usage and discharge now I've the battery life I told before
Hope this could help
I have galaxy gio and it problem is whaen i charge my galaxy gio 3 min later to touch to 100 percent and then i plug out and on it then it show battery is zero
Hi!!
I'm having terrible battery drain with my Arc S. Bought new last November, had a normal battery life span. In March phone started to lose battery on deepsleep mode (over night, airplane mode on).
I've tried every single rom from GB to ICS to JB, I've spent hundreds of hours reading diferent threads here and every forum I found on google! I've tried everything I've read, made dozens of factory restore on Sony SUS.
Facts:
- Locked BootLoader
- Currently on GB 2.3.4 with Xperia Slim V2.20
- Don't have data plan
- 2G every time
- Drains 3.5% per hour over night with Airplane mode on, after a fresh restart)
- tried a new 2350mAh battery
- Formatted Micro SD Card
- App sync when reinstall programs is off
- Every rom I've tried, made full clean (userdata/system/cache/dalvik) or followed specific rom instructions.
- Tried battery calibration methods from the forum
These battery drain symptoms exists on every single rom I flash!! Stock or custom, GB or ICS. I'm desperate, and to help me out, I don't have the invoice to send it to Sony...
I'm trully desperate, I'm not a noob and I've search and read every singe thing I've found!!!

Seems like one of the apps, that you have installed yourself.
Battery drain does not just start suddenly. Either a newly installed app or something other modification.
Try using BetterBatteryStats and try to see, what consumes juice.
By the way, those battery calibration things are waste of time - they do not help nor improve anything.

which baseband are you using ??
Stock from .42 as I'm on locked bootloader
Gathered some info this morning from BBS .
3hours on deepsleep, plain mode, took 2,5% per hour, clibing to 4,5% during the day, almost no wifi and just a couple of calls
Good morning.
This time got 2.9% per hour overnight as BBS states.
Could someone check this log please??
I genuinely can't understand what's wrong with the phone!
If I take the battery off for some minutes, and put it back on, the battery drops.
On a clean rom from Sony SUS, airplane mode, deepsleep, battery drops!
Please bare in mind that I have more than one battery, and the problem occurs on both!!
Worst damn phone ever had!!Even my nokia 3310 was better than this!! Will not buy Sony Ericson for sure again
Some basics - WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, Sync (also within apps) turned on?
Do you have low signal in your area?
And by the way, do not compare today's smartphones with Nokia 3310. None of today's smartphones can get 2 weeks on a single charge.
Your phone sleeps well so your battery drain problem is not software related. I think that your phone is damaged and If you still have warranty then it's time to use it.
Sony Xperia Arc S Battery Drain
Hey MM
I've got the same model phone as you which also started with normal battery life but recently started draining the battery to the point where I couldn't get 6 hours on standby (powersave mode) without it going flat pffft! All I could pinpoint it to was that it kind of started draining out after I installed the latest facebook app update. I uninstalled it last night & my battery is back to normal. I've had 8 hours on idle time and 3 hours of mild usage (internet & texts) and battery power is still at 92% woohoo! Even though I had all notifcations for facebook turned off, there was something within that friggin app that was draining my battery big time, even when the phone was idle. I now just have the basic facebook app which is pathetic & takes forever to load, so I'm just logging onto facebook via internet browser & all is sweet.

True that. Just booting my phone with Rush Kernel V13 + init.d scripts takes 5% of my battery
Hey guys,
my Endeavoru PVT (Tegra3 International) is now about one and a half year old, I can't remember how it was in the beginning, but now my battery drain is too heavy in my opinion.
At first I had AHRD, then I switched between some ROMs but now I am stuck at CyanogenMod 10.1.3 because as time went by, I started to hate Sense and I love the standard Android look. The thing is, since I switched from OrDroid to CM 10.2 or better said from Android 4.1 to 4.2+, the drain got heavy.
I removed all wakelocks, I use XM-Kernel with Smartmax+Row and limited the CPU freq, I turned off sync, gps and I only use 3G if I need the speed.
I mostly use whatsapp and rarely browse the internet with my phone, when I wake up at 7:00 AM I disconnect it from the charging cable, then I go to work etc. and at about 9:00 PM the battery only has 20-30% left and the average screen on time is maximum 2 hours overall and that's clearly not ok...
As I already said, I removed all wakelocks, the only wakelocks come from the kernel when the screen is active. So please do not link the ultimate battery life thread or something like that... I have no wakelocks and my settings are ok.
And when I start gaming, the battery drains 1% per minute which is insane! So I can't play any games at all.
With OrDroid and XM-Kernel I had the best battery life and almost no bugs.
Today I wanted to install Skydragon 2.0, but it was pretty buggy. So I switched to AHRD but with the XM-Kernel (17 beta for Sense5) my computer didn't detect the One X, I switched back to Stock Kernel, then it got recognized but the files were all displayed like a mess and I couln't copy any files onto the One X. Then I was pissed and restored my CM 10.1.3 backup... Is there any way to fix this??? Please no mass storage mods, these are not stable and don't work sometimes..
A few days ago I bought a One X+ battery, it should arrive next week. Maybe the battery is broken, but that doesn't explain why it drains so fkng much battery when I start to play games! And it doesn't fix my problems with Skydragon or AHRD. I would love to stay at CM, but there are the common issues which force me to switch to a sense rom.
I will probably switch back to OrDroid with XM-Kernel when the new battery arrives, hopefully it will fix the heavy drain. Can someone explain what could cause this massive drain? I mean, a phone should last at least 24 hours not 14...
Or is there any fully working AOSP rom with Android 4.1 for the One X? So I could benefit from the battery life and the look of Android 4.1.
Did you try erasing your sd card? Corrupt files might cause heavy media drain on aosp without showing wakelocks. I would recommend trying a sense 5 Rom, get a custom kernel and set it to smartmax and row like you are used to. If that doesn't work, replacing the battery is your last call. Good luck!
Go for a full wipe of your device & SD card first than try installing anew sense 5 rom and see whether the issue still persists?

My sdcard is almost empty and the problem doesn't only happen on aosp but on all Android 4.2 or higher roms.
Did you even read my post? I already said, I tried Skydragon and ARHD and I had bugs... and yes, I made a full wipe 3 times.

Stop being rude to someone trying to help you. Yes I did read your post obviously. You didn't state if you wiped your sd card. So what do you expect from the community if you figured it out all by yourself? If it's not the software it's the hardware, replace the battery.

I didn't meant the part with the sd card, I meant the sentence were you said I should try a sense rom, which I already tried as I stated.
I'm sorry if you interpreted my post as an insult.
Edit: Ok I fixed the USB problem, I installed the newest HBoot and used lyapotas Kernel, now it works without problems. Now I'm going to fix all wakelocks and wait for my new battery.
I removed all wakelocks now and I got about one hour more since then, but at some times the drain is heavyer, I tried to backtrace the drain with GSAM and BBS (root) but there are no Problems with wakelocks. The battery drained from one minute to the other from 72 to 78, I don't know if the stats didn't refresh correctly, but I am now pretty sure it's the battery.
Okay, my battery arrived. I replaced it and besides I fixed my Wi-Fi with a piece of aluminium foil. The drain on the first start was heavy, but I think it has to undergo some full charges to calibrate.
But I have one more problem.. I'm on ARHD 33.1 with lyapotas LM kernel (XM beta didn't work very well), but I can't undervolt with SetCPU (paid for root version). Every time I want to save the undervolt settings SetCPU itself crashes and I don't really want to use TricksterMod for undervolting.
Is it because of lyapotas kernel?
I already reinstalled SetCPU two times..
Update: Wow, I never had 78% battery left after work! I guess it was my battery that was broken, so the thread can be closed.
My battery has been draining at an abnormal rate, extremely fast for me.
The NFC service or whatnot is the main culprit.
Read what I mean below and I have the screenshots to show what I mean too.
***Full disclosure, I do not game at all, I do not watch any videos, I do not listen to music when I was doing these tests nso as not to skew the results.
As said above, my battery has been on this downward spiral out of nowhere.
It started a few weeks ago with the foxhound ROM v 0.5. I turned on my phone one day and my battery just went to hell over night.
I was on a full charge expecting like always that I would at least get a good 5-6 days out of 100% charge, but overnight, the battery went from 100% to 10%. I know everyone's battery is different but I mean really from 100 to 10% in just under 7 hours? Damn.
So I thought it was the ROM's problem. Naturally, I Nandroid' the whole foxhound v0.5 ROM and flashed another ROM.
The next ROM I flashed was the SOKP ROM to make sure it was just the ROM's problem. I updated my baseband to NB4 at the same time from the MLK baseband. I let it sit for a couple of days and use it a I normally would, just using FB and going online, no games, no music, and no videos watched.
The battery life was fine for a coupla days and then all of a sudden it happened again. It went from a 100% full charge to 5% overnight.
So then I checked and nothing was wrong, thinking it was the ROM again, so I flashed another ROM, Hyperdrive ROM, and the same thing happens again. It's driving me nuts.
The NFC usage taken from screenshots from the different ROM's are just insane and they show what I mean. Nothing was being used as can be seen. No games or anything like that.
I was wondering if anyone is able to help me out with this singular problem?
Has anyone ever experienced anything similar? I know each battery for each S 4 is different but damn 100 to 10% overnight, I mean...
Is there any way that I could throw up a log for you guys or something to see whats draining or using the NFC so much?
I've attached screenshots that were taken showing what I meant above. These screenshots are taken from when the phone is performing during its better days where I could get up to 1 whole day of usage.

Do you use NFC at all? If not, just go into your settings and turn it off. If you do use it, you could just turn it off when you don't expect to use it, and switch it back on before you need it.

I don't use NFC and I have to manually force close it every time because it just turns on of its own accord. Every time I turn it off,
it just turns on again without my doing anything. And even with NFC off, it still appears on the BBS's app and Battery's under Setting's saying that is running still.

I never have a problem with that personally, but I would say use Titanium Backup and freeze everything that has NFC in the name.

I froze anything that remotely had NFC in the name after doing a Titanium Backup search and the battery is still draining, but just a bit slower than before.
I would try flashing stock firmware with Odin, NFC should not be draining like that and you shouldn't have to freeze everything

Any way how? I'm thinking about flashing 4.2.2 again with Odin. I'm still on 4.2.2 on the FW side, I haven't upgraded to 4.4.2 or higher. I just flashed the most recent version of ROM's that has 4.4.2
Do I have to root again after flashing stock FW? I don't want to go to android 4.4.4 what with all the Knox and stuff that its being hit with.
Also, is there any link to past android FW versions? I can't seem to find any.

Yeah since you never updated past 4.2.2 you can still flash the 4.2.2 firmware, get it at sammobile.com

I tried to find it there but all I come up with is the 4.4.4 version?
Nothing older than 4.4.4
Edit: found it, will Odin it and see what happens.
Do I have to do a full wipe of everything? on the internal and external SD card?
No, just a factory reset but do it before you Odin

Do you mean factory reset through the custom recovery? ie using TWRP or CWM?
Yes
Gotcha
Was wondering will I need to re-root the phone again after going back to stock?
Confused by a reply earlier.
Yes you will need to re-root
will keep updated after a few more days of usage to see if any changes occur.
thanks for you guys' help so far!
