My tmobile s4 is rooted with custom rom. I have 3 phones in my family plan. I got unlock got for all three phones. The unlock code worked for two phones which are stock. But the unlock code didnt work on mine. Is it because my phone is rooted? Does it matter whether the phone is rooted or not while unlocking?
It shouldnt matter if its rooted or not.

ask seller. however you don't need it. I've got unlocked phone and I tried many ROMs (2.3.5 rooted, 4.0.4 leak, 4.0.4 from ATT, many custom roms and currently I'm using CM10) and my phone is still unlocked.
The AT&T barcode there is likely an internal code for either their warehouse or point-of-sale systems. It's missing some digits to be an unlock code too.
Oh, and if you're going to blank out your IMEI, you might as well blank out the barcode for it. There's a couple of bar code applications out there and it took me about two seconds to know that yours contains: 35711********79
Thanxs ill ask the seller....and im sorry im new at this :s

Ok so it's been a while since I've had a samsung. Last one was a nexus on verizon. I had a RAZR for several years now I have an s4 I picked up cheap. I want to switch to tmobile but I can't find any phones with an unlockable bootloader. I can't find a single thread how to do it yet I see custom kernel threads everywhere. Is the note 3 bootloader unlockable? I don't want to switch and not be happy.
Thanks

The bootloader is not locked on tmobile note 3 phones.
Does it come factory locked and needs to be unlocked or does it come from tmobile fully unlocked?

The phone is completely unlocked. I had no issues with bootloaders with android 4.3 or 4.4. The only thing, if you are planning on rooting your device the chances are that you will trip the Knox counter and that will void your warranty, if you care. There have been some methods to not trip Knox but I already tripped mine so I have not explored that option. I really love the phone and the options root/custom Roms provides.

Thanks for the reply that is great news. I miss messing with kernels and radios and such as I did on my nexus. I rooted this busted s4 I'm on now with safe root supposed to not trip knox. After if replace the screen I'll sell it and buy a note 3 and switch over.

Sorry, I am a noob.
I am being offered the AT&T model for a very good price (about $200 less than the unlocked model). The issue is - I would like to:
1. run the non-bloat version
2. use it overseas.
So my question is - is this even possible with root and ROM? Or is there a hardware differance?
Thank you!!
Sorry but no. there is a temporary root but not possible to flash different rom yet.
Why not just pay for an unlock code from an unlocking service online? I've seen several people on here comparing the services.

They are 2 different things.
I know the difference between bootloaders being locked, and a phone being Sim locked. He said he wanted to use it overseas. All that requires is removing the Sim lock so that any Sim card would work in it. Purchase a code. Done.

I just switched from att to t mobile and the guy at t mobile said that they would unlock my bootloader after 3 months if I asked. Is this true? And my other question is wouldn't it be better to wait for them to unlock it for me before I use any other method to root? Or is a bootloader and rooting not connected. I'm asking because it's been a few years since I rooted and I forgot almost everything. The last phone I rooted was my Galaxy S3. Lol. Thanks

Either you misunderstood what the guy told you or he misunderstood what you asked.
Tmobile only unlocks the carrier so the phone can be used with any sim card from any carrier.
No phone company unlocks bootloaders.
Good luck!
