Guys some help. I been searching around the proper filer to root this phone but some of the links are old and not working.
Somebody need to get all of these together and make it a sticky on the development section.
I guess to root this is like rooting my s2. Flash recovery with odin and then flash the SU. But cant find it.
I want the latest recovery for odin the latest su and I want the stock ICS and JB roms with odin in case I do something bad and I need to flash that to unroot. and get it stock.
Can somebody point me out this. And please somebody make those files sticky so future members like me and old member would have everything handy and easy to find.
another thing. Do we flash radios here? On my s2 we could flash any kind of tmobile radios for better performance and data. Witch are the radios?
Another thing that I noticed when this phone came out is the people were loosing the IMEI number on their device how was that posible and what they do so I wont go through it
go into the dev section
The files you want are stickied already

As far as I know backing up your efs does not preserve your imei you must set it in modem mode and write it to an app on your desktop. Easy as pie to do though and it's on the forum with a writeup

Thank you for your information. I have found several ways to root. 1 with odin like I used to do with the s2. and 2 with a odin stock rom and no tripping flash counter. Is that still an issue. Is there a way to reset the counter? I used to go back to stock all stock on my s2 and root several times before and that was never an issue! First time I see this about flash counter!.

Yeah tripping the flash counter is still an issue. basically it just keeps you from using all share an to watch movies from the media hub.
What I did when I fist got the phone was Odin root66 then downloaded goo and installed twrp via the app "not cwm"

Triangle Away can reset the counter as long as you have root. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114
okay here is my issue. Long story short, the camera button no longer works on my Epic so i can't do a three finger reboot to recovery. i've tried just about everything i can to root the phone while on Froyo and while i can root it, i can't go any further as ROM Manager will not install under that platform. So i tried ODIN to GB but as we all know there is no way to root from there without being able to three finger to CWM. So after 3 days of searching and finding dead links etc i'm as a dead end myself as to what to try and was hoping someone can help me out.
thanks

You can download terminal emulator from Play Store
Then type
su(enter, allow it on superuser)
reboot recovery (enter)
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Or use adb reboot recovery

this only seems to reboot me to the stock recovery though
There is a file you can delete so the recovery will stick....I will see if I can find the link and pull it up

Nevermind, you can just install a custom kernel like cleankernel and then flash cwm through odin and it will stick
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk 2
what would be the steps for that?
Go to download mode (power + 1) until comes android with yellow triangle say downloading
Connect to computer and open Odin
Download this CWM 5
And put in PDA section in Odin, uncheck reset time and check auto reboot
Click odin!
If you're not rooted,
Adb reboot recovery

ok this is what i did...
i odin back to SPH-D700-DG27-8Gb-REL.tar and victory_8G_100528.pit. Used one-click root to root the phone.Went back into download mode and loaded the CMW 5 file as stated. Rebooted and so far all good. I loaded terminal and ran SU then REBOOT RECOVERY, but i'm still going into factory recovery. Any other ideas?
http://db.tt/X1h34nQ4 flash that in odin then when it reboots flash cwm and it will stick.... all credit goes to toadlife, i just took his zimage from his cwm flashable and put it in a tar for flashing in odin

That strange screen is just like the normal download mode screen.
All it means is that the previous odin flash did not fully complete.
All you need to do is to make sure you have the proper stock odin
flash TAR / MD5 file and start the odin flash again.
That weird screen usually comes up when we try flashing a non compatible stock
odin flash rom so just be sure that what you flash is either the official stock rom or
a rom which is specifically designed for your specific phone's model.
Good luck!

Boot into recovery and do a factory reset. You have to do that when Odining back to stock frequently or it gets stuck booting up.

Ok I have a SGH-i317 on att and my problem is this. So I went to update my phone through the OTA from att and had to get the 4.3 bootloader for the DN3 rom I installed. Messed up a couple files and had to downgrade back to 4.1.2 ( this is where things went to hell) it booted fine on stock 4.1.2 until I let it do another OTA then the phone froze and will now only let me enter download mode. I checked probably 10 threads pertaining to my problem like this one. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589891 and I can't get it off the initial start up screen. I can still enter download mode but thats it. I've tried flashing the stock 4.3 through Odin and a custom recovery from the link above I even tried to flash a pit file and a bootloader file but the bootloader file comes back in error. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
