tnx for answer but i want to update official rom!
Use a computer that runs the LG suite software and do a complete new install.
If it's only rooted, you can unroot it and then do the OTA.
Though you may want to use the 18a update instead due to the gamma fix.

Yes only rooted
How to unroot?
A factory reset on most stocks unroots.
I rooted with Kingo Android Root, it has an option to unroot.
Other rooting scripts/tools for the pad may have it too.

Anyone is working on rooting 1.72 WITHOUT downgrade?
At least just clean root without s-off.
greets
Appearantly it is really wel secured since this ROM was released december and it is still not rooted. Best option so far is to downgrade and root. I haven't found any reference to a possible successful root of the 1.72 firmware. I am also unable to find any status/update on this subject...
If anyone knows more it would be appreciated!
u can do the g-free temp root/ s-off and fastboot load cwm and zing, no downgrade needed
how?
ps. obviously we are talkng about permament root

easy.
i do all this and the fastboot flash cwm, once u get S-off u can flash a recovery one, u just wont have root on stock rom. so u must flash a rom.

I recently received a replacement G2 with the 1.72 firmware(with wifi calling) so it had the Dec. update installed, and was able to root just as easily as I did back in Oct. Just follwed "blackprince310"'s method, and it worked like a charm.Again.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
But did you make a downgrade?
wheeliest - you've flashed a new rom so it has the same disadvantages as downgrading.

I thought the only T-Mob G2 ROM versions were 1.19 and 1.21, both of which are rootable by the "usual" methods?

but i avoided the whole downgrading part by simply flashing a new rom....
and whats the disadvantages of that?

perhaps the replacement one came pre-ota-ed?
It had WiFi calling so it was definitely post ota.

Loosing the original rom? Which is good enough and needs only a few hacks.
Loosing all the settings and apps? Reinstalling 300 apps and setting them is the pain in the %$%.
Potentially dangerous process with goldcard?
So what for downgrading if one needs only the access to the system files and run some apps like adfree or dsp manager.
have you used cm7? because stock rom is garbage compared to it..
What has it so much better? (apart from new layouts and bacgrounds?)

everything about it, way more control over the phone, better performance, unlimited possibilities..
Don't want to be mean but:
CM7 Bugs/Not working/TODO:
Camera
Missing FM
Screen calibration support
First setup wizard restarts
and more:
just cant stand the download failures and the market failures.

Would you mind telling us what you did when you gained root access? We have one report that ioroot + xposed prevents OTA update. Did you do anything to your phone after you gaining root access?
Which variant of the G3 is this for? nothing shows up on mine 16gb/2gb Euro version on v10a.
32gb/3gb V10a-EUR-XX also shows no update... (ioroot)
no idea, i got the v10e update but once its downloaded it says that my phone is suspected from being rooted (which it was)
mine is D855 16gb int. version..
i rooted my phone with towelroot + using xposed
from what im seeing ota works only with towelroot with ioroot not working
Also just got the update. Looks like it's brand new so we still have no clue about the changes except for Power Optimizations?
can anyone provide a screenshot of power optimization please?
thanks.
disabling xposed & root doesn't help. any idea?

If on the D855 you can follow the guide in my signature to unroot without wiping.
Might be a good idea to wait and see if they backported the 4.4.4 towelroot patch before unrooting and installing the OTA.
Witch root apps do you have?
Because it sais that I'm rooted and can't update. I have root explorer, cerberus and titanium

Hi there.
Your only possibility is to go back to stock by flashing a KDZ or TOT+DLL method. I am posting you a fantastic link where you will get all the help you need by the OP @hyelton. He is extremely helpful. Do not forget to press the THANKS button for him as signs of appreciation for his help...oh...and for me also if you wish.

If you get update, it will fail in updating due to root. If you are on anything other then sprint. It will fail because of files changed

Sorry this is late.. What is your service provider? Maybe that is why you're not getting updates. Sprint and Boost will OTA update to ZVG which is the lollipop you're looking for. Or you can study the threads to get Cyanogen 12 which is lollipop (5.0.2) based. If you're on a different provider, it's possible your LS980 was flashed to work on their service which makes it ineligible to update to ZVG.
I have a G3 on vodafone in the UK (LG-D855) on KitKat and i rooted it myself using the Purple Drake method, can i just unroot the phone and upgrade to latest OS via the normal route using the over the air method?

Thanks for the reply neutrondev, excuse my ignorance i know very LITTLE about any of this stuff.
You say "reflash to stock" i presume you mean reflash to my default ROM (bit like an image on a windows PC) i can't seem to find a stock rom for my phone, I have gone to http://lgg3root.com/lg-g3-stock-roms/ but can't find anything for "Vodafone" or am i being a complete idiot about this and missing the point?
In an ideal world i'd like to be able to do OTA updates in the future, if poss or do i always have to update using a ROM?
Sorry for the stupid questions.

If you are rooted you lose OTA. Try to go in supersu apps settings and there should be an option to remove root completly. Try that then check with rootchecker
