How to use kies - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

Can someone please explain the step by step process using kies to update the note 10.1 2014 edition. I keep trying to update using ota but keep getting the message that it's exceeded the maximum amount of updates. I've since installed kies in my PC But can't figure out what the next step is. Kies is reading my device but no update is taking place. I'm sure I'm missing something. Any help would be as always greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Sal

Well, once you connect your device to your PC and run Kies 3 you should get a prompt that there is an update available. After that just follow the instructions, which are pretty much clicking Ok and I Agree. It is weird that you are not getting the prompt. Are you in the USA? Are you rooted? If you aren't having luck with Kies 3 or OTA updates, then you could try downloading the FW from one of the link in this forum and flashing it through ODIN.

Same thing for me, I get the option to accept terms, then it downloads firmware upgrade components then nothing. I've let it sit for awhile and still nothing. I don't have do anything other than connect it right? I mean I am typing this while it is sitting there connected and nothing.

I'm not rooted. I'm getting no prompt. I'm in the US in new york. Guess I'll just have to wait for the ota to hit my device.

my brand new, fresh out of the box note tells me over, and over, and over, and over again to reinstall the usb drivers.
I can access the files on the device. just not update.
I get the same "exceeded maximum number of updates..." message on the device.
uninstalled drivers, reinstalled drivers. . .
not a good start. . .
whats the maximum updates business?

samsung probably limit number of upgrades per days.
you should try to download image from mirors and use odin to flash it.
I do it yesterday (I'm not from USA) and my tablet is now running KK.
no wipe, all app working after flash, nothing to reconfigure.
just a little issue with sdcard write access (only myfile can access on it with RW, no other apps).

Just got the ota now. The file is huge.

Do you now if it's avaliable in the UK as of yet?

Not yet in Europe but you can use usa version

Update: got the update OTA.
Kies was not working before the update, wifi or usb.
I updated Kies while trying to get it to work.
Once I took the update on tablet OTA Kies worked via USB, havent tried wifi.
Have never used it before so I think I need to read some tutorials on how-to "do stuff" in kies.

Warning: Stay away from Kies

There is a devil in disguise called Kies, which Samsung has unleashed on its victims (customers).
The internet is full of it! Google 'kies' and you Will find only problems from the first page itself!
Don't know what Samsung had in mind when it was released. Working on it is like a hurdle race and the normal user isn't an athlete! Even if you pass on hurdle somehow, another one is waiting for you with a big grin. There is no alternative. Use Odin and your warranty's in trouble.
I have been trying to upgrade my GT-I9000 to 2.2 for days! First Kies won't detect my phone. I tried deleting files with long extensions but it didn't work. After many more alleged solutions I finally had to hunt down all Kies files and registry keys. Reinstalled Kies and it worked. But this was not the end of the story! It detected the phone but won't upgrade it!
"This device firmware cannot be upgraded!!"
Why??
Even the Samsung people did not have the answer.
Another series of possible solutions and finally one worked!
But again this was not the end. Halfway through the firmware download came the 'Cannot connect to remote server'. Only once it had brought misery but it came again, and again, and again.
And until now the end user still lies in vain.....
You came here to complain about Kies.... ????
Dude, just flash it urself, it's easier and safer ....
I would never use Kies to upgrade, hell NO... But goodluck..... U ginna need it

search on here for Kies Reg Hack and spoof the product code as XEU, then re-connect and it will give you the update.
or just do it the odin way as previously suggested.
Odin, definitely
Use Odin. Got Froyo in my GT I9000 yday with it.
Kies is the worst piece of crappy software I've seen.
Cheers,
Roger

Same here, never really had any problems with KIES. I've flashed numerous times using the reg hack.
I use ODIN only for kernels and modded ROM's.
However, to use ODIN I always have to use my laptop (WinXP) as it gives errors on my desktop PC (Win7).
No problems with Kies here as well, but rejoice ... with 2.2.1 and higher, you can get OTA updates on your SGS.
Dread using kies.it doesnt work on one computer its bricked my other computer.

Didn't know that, any idea on how you should get the updates (when one is available )?
ota = over the air, which means u download with our phone, no need for pc.
now u need 2e recovery to do that now, because the update has to be signed by samsung(i could be wrong with this, as I didn't use it)

Thanks for the info!
.
Those who did not have any problems must be the luckiest people on Earth!
I had problems with every install on all my machines.
Well im using odin to flash stock firmwares on my phone. Just using Kies for samsung drivers, is that ok?
Only problem I've had with KIES is that I have to plug in my phone before I start KIES or it won't find it. My experience with the software has been mostly positive.(That goes for the old and new versions of KIES)

I recently ran into a issue with the google drivers and using windows 7 sp1 64bit. I ended up running root on a linux box and worked perfect. Maybe similar issue for you.
thanks,now is rooted...
So was it a driver issue for you also?

Rooting HTC Incredible
I have been reading today that perhaps the Incredible is no longer rootable after the last OTA update. Anyone know more?
I rooted one like a week ago
Wasn't November the last ota? I'm pretty sure there has been plenty of rooting since then.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
It "IS" rootable since the Nov OTA but you have to do it right.
Uninstall all HTC Sync drivers/software from your computer before hooking your phone up. Then install these drivers:
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/lib/e...unrevoked.com/recovery/android-usb-driver.zip
When you run Unrevoked3 it should run just fine and do all in about 10 minutes or so. If you get a warning about being "firmware to new" or the likes then try a couple more times. If it still doesn't work then set the connection from Charge Only to Disk Drive and run again.
Just had to a total reset on mine all the way back to factory then rooted and restored.
It is rootable. I did mine back in march. Googled how to root the Droid Incredible and just followed all the directions. Worked first try. Loved it ever since.

Solution to preparing firmwire upgrade components
Hello Everyone,
I'm here to solve this problem which everyone have been facing for upgrading firmwire via Kies. First of all let me tell you that i own a Samsung Galaxy S2 (I9100) and had this problem and did everything possible to solve it like installing virtual os (xp), trying on original windows xp sp3, modifying services, installing drivers, usb debugging and all sorts of stuff. But in the end i found the solution as i vowed not to go to samsung service centre and not to use odin to root and solve this myself and help others solve it.
If you are stuck with "preparing firmwire upgrade components" screen, just do this to solve it --> TRY WITH Wi-Fi.
As you all know Samsung Kies is one of the worst piece of software ever made, something's wrong with kies with broadband connection. So just connect your phone with wifi in your laptop for internet and usb connection to phone with "usb debugging" turned off. Do not plug in any usb devices like pen drive, wireless mouse nano receiver, etc and make sure wifi has good signal and battery is full before you start.
I'm pretty sure this would solve the problem, and if it does i wouldn't mind getting a donation of 2 dollars at my paypal email [email protected] for me trying to help others and for need. Hope it makes sense. If you need any further help, let me know by email at the address mentioned. Bye.
kies is ****ing ****,after one i delete this"tool",odin is da best one to flash stocks, kies makes me angry.I do not know any people that do not have problems with this program,

[Q] Noob question- cant connect SGS3 - PC via USB cable after phone unlocked.

My neighbour has had a Galaxy S3 for 18 months which he's flashed OTA to 4.3. I suspect he's also agreed to the "denial log reporting service" nag screen.
He's recently changed provider so unlocked it from Orange (UK). The person who did it had a real struggle, it took three attempts on different days.
The phone boots, he's using his new provider, everything is fine except he can no longer connect to the PC via USB. It keeps trying to install a "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MFM" driver (and failing).
Does anyone have any ideas what might have happened?
Try to download samsing kies on the computer. It will install the usb drivers needed for your phone to be able to hook up to the PC.

Many thanks for the reply. I managed to install KIES but the PC still generates this error message, but with KIES installed it gets into a loop and keeps presenting the message.
I'm able to connect my SGS4 to the PC and it appears immediately as a browsable device in Windows Explorer. (He's running Vista 32bit.)
I think that something has been changed in the process of unlocking the phone from Orange, probably as a result of him accepting the denial log service, meaning he'd installed Samsung Knox. The bloke who unlocked his phone has had to do a fairly low-level change, possibly even rooting the phone, to get it unlocked.
Is there a simple way to see if a phone is rooted?
Download a root checker app from the playstore. If the device is not rooted it should say something like " this device does not have root" or something similar

[Q] T310 Unable to run APK after OTA 4.4.2

Title says it really. No problem rooting using One Click CF Autoroot and Heimdall-frontend and planned to install Xposedframework. Got the usual warning screen with the option to cancel or continue - but only the cancel button works. Continue is dead. Tried another couple of.apk 's with the same result. Any ideas anyone - or am I heading for CM11 (which runs fine on my S1 and S3 - so I'm not sure I need to ask)
Sorted. Turns out it was a night filter I was using. Flashed CM 11 anyway and should probably have done it earlier. Samsungs version was pretty. horrible
