Read the stickies, to root you'll need a custom recovery. Check dev section for custom recovery threads.

I use the samsung galaxy nexus from google, and my android is stuck at 4.2.1 , is there any way to update it to at least 4.3? Thank you.
I am running 4.2.1 on a Galaxy Nexus model GT-i9250 and I would like to root this phone so I will be able to change to 4.4.2 or what ever is the newest one.
I don't see a question, however, I recommend reading up on the process and give it a go. I have not regretted rooting and flashing new roms.
Android 4.4.2
There are several root-methods. Many say that the Wugfresh toolbox is working great; http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/.
I've my Galaxy Nexus (Maguro) rooted, and I'm now running Android 4.4.2. It's ParanoidAndroid 4 (BETA 3). I would recommend waiting until it's out of beta. It will be great, believe me.
i have samsung galaxy nexus and labeled google on the back
android os running JB 4.1.1
build number J3O03C
How to update it to official 4.2.2 or 4.3 without rooting or using custom roms .
HEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!
See this post for instructions. Although it explains how to root, it also shows you how to do it without root.
