Just rooted my tmo s4 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hi guys I have a question regarding my recent root of my s4 on kit kat. This is what I did, I rooted with cf-auto-root and everything went smooth supersu is installed and working, then I installed twrp 2700 amd did my 1st nandroid backup and included efs in the options in the backup. So I copied over the whole folder to my external sd to make space for a titanium backup but titanium is telling me that it cannot continue due to not having sufficient space for the whole backup. Then I tried making titanium backup to my ext. Sd but it wont allow it cause the folder is not writable or something like that. So when I try to delete the twrp folder from the device I cannot it doesnt allow me to erase it not with the my files app nor with the es file expl. App.
Soo....
1. I cannot backup with titanium because not enough space. Also I cannot make titanium backup files to my ext sd.
2. I cannot erase twrp backup with regular file manager apps includin my file app.
This is what I want to do:
Since I copied over twrp folder to ext sd, now I want to make a full titanium backup so I can factory reset my phone and then restore data from titanium.
Also I want to know:
1. Can nandroid backups be erased and how?
2. Why cant titanium make backup and save them on the ext sd? Is it possible?
If anything else rises I will post it!
Thanks in advanced guys

Search google for 4.4.2 SD fix and after you reboot you will be able to do all that you couldn't with your SD
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk

Thanks bro let me try rhat, ill post results
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk

Really quick thou... it is an app or a flashable file? Cause its coming out as an app from the play store on google results, the reason I ask is because if its an app, after the fix is done do I still need to keep the app in order for the fix to be permanent or I can I delete it after the fix is successful?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk

You can use the app or do the edit yourself.. You don't need to keep the app after its done
Edit: There's also an xposed module if you wanna go that route
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk

Thank you so much man, I did the app way, now I will delete it and then yes get me some xposed.... do you know if there is some sort of repo or thread where I can see all the additional to the exposed module?
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk

Well you don't need the module anymore since you already did it with the app
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk

Ok. But do you know where I can get other modules for when j get xposed. Thats my next step after installing triangle away
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk

Yeah within xposed you can search them there

Ok i think something went wrong while trying to factor y restore muy s4, cause i restored it but when i went to muy internal storage al previos files were still there. So when i try reseting it through the phone settings the recovery hangs so i rebooted into recovery and wiped cache, dalvik cache, internal storage, then factor y gestores and nos muy phone is stuck at the tmobile boot screen and gets súper hoy and the les is ON BLUE al the time

The files were supposed to be there.. If you have custom recovery reflash your ROM, or if you don't then reflash the firmware with Odin.. Or flash a custom recovery with odin and then the ROM

im tired of twrp

damn man, im so tired of twrp this is so far the crappiest recovery ive seen cause the date and time are impossible to change to an accurate one cause even when you select the timezone it is not your time. also the date when you do a nandroid backup the year is all wrong.
when i recently had the accident that the phone didnt wanna boot i tried restoring from backup but no success, also when you go to the phone settings and try to factory restore the phone through the regular phone settings, it reboots the phone into the twrp recovery then it hangs and start getting HOT and never does anything. also lts say you had a folder labeled "Old Folder" on your internal sdcard/ device storage, if you do a factory restore from the recovery which is supposed to wipe the user data from the internal partition once the phone reboots and open the file manager of choice you will find that all the previous junk is still there including the "Old Folder".
thats my opinion, why i dont like this twrp recovery and the way its implemented into the SGS4.
if you or anyone can please redirect me to a Good, stable, usable, and fully working custom recovery up to date and for the Tmo US SGS4, then please fell free to give me a hand.
and im appologize to the developer of this recovery but thats my opion and why i dislike it cause i already hada bad experience with it.
Thanks in advanced and sorry again!!!

busybox
i think that my recently rooted s4 doesnt have busybox installed. so is there an specific busybox for this model or anyone would do? any recomendations since i saw a couple on the Play Store?
thanks in advanced

To wipe internal data in twrp you select wipe data or internal SD.. That's how it should be.. and for the dates and names, you can rename it to whatever you want so you can put the date yourself.. I actually like twrp.. For busybox try busybox on rail in the playstore

[Q] HTC Evo 4G

Ok so I'm new to androids completly. Was looking to root my new phone. Let me start off by saying I'm in Japan and have the HTC Evo 4G. I was attempting to use unrevoked but seem to be stuck at how to get to the hboot. I just updated to 2.3.4 and when I power off my phone then hit volume down and power button to gain access to hboot it simply turns the phone back on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Head over the the revolutionary.io site, you should be good to go. You have to use that method to root for gingerbread on the evo.
Check this thread for rooting.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218386
And turn off fast boot in settings/applications and then try to boot into hboot I think thats where it is I'm not sure I haven't been on sense in a while I'm not even sure if a stock ROM has it but look there to boot into hboot.

disregard this post please
Take out the battery, put it back in, hold volume down + power key for 3-5 seconds to get into bootloader. Theres a youtube video, can't remember what its called, but it shows step by step on how to root through Revolutionary. Very easy. Took me like 5 min to root

Rooted!!
Ok so I managed to get it rooted without bricking. Currently backing up the phone then will look into ROM's. Thanks for the posts

the recovery should be a PC36IMG.zip you flash that in hboot just make sure its on the root of your sdcard not in any folders then when you go to hboot it will find the update just except it.
The su apk should be a flashable zip just boot to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache then go to flash zip and choose that zip and flash it then reboot.
If this is your first time in recovery before you do anything make a nandroid backup this will backup everything in case anything goes wrong you can restore the backup and your phone will be just the way it was when you made the backup.

Ok got it all figured out. To be honest you had me lost and I almost made another noob post but I got it now. Figured out the whole flash to SD card deal. I am 100% rooted now. Now for a ROM
I downloaded the synergy rom and it deleted my carrier email app. Do all roms do this?? I'll say it again here, I'm in japan so might be a little different from the states. Anybody know how I could get it back using this rom?? Or a good rom to use that won't delete this app.

What happens is when you flash a rom, its a whole new phone basically [os] so it comes packaged with its own apps, themes. What you can do is:
- go into recovery, backup your current rom
- restore your initial backup
- use / download es file explorer [free] from the market
- enable su permissions, then navigate to /system/app and copy it to your sd card
- go back to recovery, restore the synergy backup
- once booted, install the app from the sd card
or if it was backed up, open titanium backup, restore the app and data.
Thanks for the help teh roxxorz. I got the mail thing figured out. Worked with es file but didn't work to well with titanium backup. Took some trial and error to find all the files needed cuz the paste the whole folder didn't work. Having other issues finding the contacts and getting force closes, so I decided to just not use that rom. On to finding another good one that works.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
So I tried miui and that didn't work as well. Couldn't get the mail to work at all on that rom. Anybody happen to be in Japan and using this phone and could suggest a good rom to use that they have their au email and contacts moved over on, and have minimal issues?

Where did my sdcard go??

Hi all. I tried a new backup earlier then i tried a recover of said backup. No md5 match found when i chose that backup. Now i try a backup and no /sdcard also a no suitable error msg.. what happened it was running smothly.. i have clockwork touch. Should also note when i try to backup to external nothing happens in touch cwr..

You will need to be more specific when you say sdcard...the GS3 has an internal storage that is considered an SD card in android, as well as an external SD Micro slot beside the sim card. It sounds like maybe your internal storage has become corrupted possibly. Do you have a file explorer app? If so can you browse to /sdcard? Are there any files there? If there are and you can open them then it could just be a bad backup, if you cant then the storage is corrupt. If it is corrupted a format will fix you up at the exspense of losing whatever may be on it. If a format fails to correct the problem you likely have a defective device. Try accessing the internal sdcard manually and let us know what happens. As far as the external storage goes, unless you have installed an SD Micro in your phone nothing will happen when you try to backup to it as it is, in fact, empty.
Yes i can root explore to them both i have micrs sd also. Sorry for not clarifying. I could use to backup to external.. no more. Guess ill try and format thrm?? Sorry for typos using phone. I had my original backup on internal sd.. the stock. It became corrupt and when i backed up yesterday then factory wipe reset etc.. i tried to restore to the exact backup just made it replied no m5 match..

Woah, easy there tiger....there is an edit button if you need to make changes to a post. Im sure the modderators are not going to be too happy with a quadruple post! :silly:
On to your issues, yes i have noticed with CMW recovery the dating system seems to be borked, atleast with the last 5.x version i used which does make deciding which file to restore from. The fact that you are getting MD5 mismatches seems to confirm the fact that your flash memory file system is corrupt, or possibly you have a bad recovery all together. If you can explore to the sd card you can copy the data off of it to a safer location while you determine the exact problem so as no to loose anything that could possibly be good. I would also recommend you download Clockwork Rom Manager from the market and install the latest recovery, 6. something or other. This may solve you problems all together.
P.S. - I got the error about android-secure.img every time i restorded (the error shows during the backup also if i recall) with CMW but it didnt seem to have any effect on the restore process
Yes i forgot to edit.my bad im on my phone. I uninstalled the cwm i had on phone redownloaded from playstore. Solved my date prob. So i must have downed a bad copy from a diff thread vs thr play store.. formatted both sd cards.. so lost tons but hey starting fresh aint so bad. With the premium cwm is touch included i could use free version.. thats what i did last time and had the isuue from manually install. Thanks for your help.

You're welcome, glad to hear you got it sorted it out :good:. I have recently switched to TWRP recovery which seems to me to be a bit more reliable, although i have not used CWM's touch so i dont have any ground for comparison and this perception could simply be a placebo effect.

What version of CWM do you have and what ROM are you running? And did you have that little space left all along or was it only after you tried making a backup?

Im not sure but its not that i tried to backup a stock version of the latest legit ROM from samsung and it failed and phone restarted and now it show like 500 mb's left on my phone. I check all files on the phone and nothing is taking up space all the files on my phone together is like 2gb. not sure whats wrong. I installed a different rom to check if thats a issue with the stock Samsung ROM but nope it still same.
EDIT: I just tried to format the DATA partition which it shows takes up 12GB but didnt do anything.
Well if you're running an older version of CWM, you will have issues with any 4.3 roms, stock or not. I would firstly upgrade to the latest version of CWM, and then if you can, use a root Explorer either on your phone or laptop to see hidden files.
I personally had an issue due to having an older version of CWM, and I had a few gb of data hidden behind a bunch of nested 0 folders.
If you still don't see anything, then maybe a format of the internal SD thru CWM is in order. Hopefully you have/are able to back up all that info before you need to do that tho.

I am running the LATEST version of CWM i remembered i checked like 2 weeks ago i can check again but shouldnt be a problem. Ill check right now with root explorer and see if i find any files. I already backed up everything on my SD card.

Made backup, can't find it back.

I've just made a backup with cwm but now I can't find it anywhere in my file..
Running stock ROM
Anyone knows how to remove this backup? Memory is full
Don't have root.
Probably it is in internal sd card. Search for a folder called CWM.

Nope, I did it on my friends phone, was going to flash Liquid Smooth for him, so made backup for safety but the backup took 3gb space and that was all he had left.
I used this one (CWM) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2364980
I stopt after step 6, only wanted CWM recovery because Liquid Smooth would give root automaticly.. I did everything right,
- CWM worked
- Made backup (didn't know it would be 3gb)
- Rebooted, phone says not enough memory
- Can't find the backup. Really NOWHERE, trust me.
- CWM was not installed anymore when I again booted in recovery.
So the problem is that cwm is not installed anymore? If I flash md5. again with odin to get cwm will I find the nandroid backup?
I really need to solve this, it's my friends phone soo..
I made backup for safety, but now the backup is the problem because it's so big and can't be found.
Thanks

Clockwork and TWRP will flash CM without a pc. Not sure about the other.
BlakKat Nexus 5 was here foo!
Reason I ask is cause I've been stuck in hospital for couple days now & bored & brave enough to try it with other opinions in my favor, last question is since I have the file on my device is a reliable Wi-Fi connection necessary cause I don't know if I'd trust the hospitals Wi-Fi

if the file is on your internal sd you don't need wifi to flash with twrp. I would recommend making a backup of(nandroid) in case you have problems that require a pc! then your really stuck!
I did backup using twrp, is that considered a nandroid backup? I saved that backup file to Dropbox, had the correct cm11, gapps & SuperSU 2.2 zip files, then I done the dumbest thing & wiped all data including internal storage I guess cause my main device is a RAZR M which has separate sd card storage, so can I use adb sideload when I get back to my PC to install that backup I made?
Thanks for ur help in advance

Since you're stuck in a hospital for a few days, why don't you use the time to read up and learn? Just sayin'.
Yes, a nandroid is a backup made with TWRP or CWM. You don't sideload a nandroid, you restore it in recovery.
So you had CM11, Gapps, and SuperSU on your SD but then deleted everything? Or do you still have them available to be flashed in recovery? If you don't have anything on your SD, boot into recovery and push either the nandroid or CM11/Gapps/SuperSU to the SD. If you don't know how to do that, you use adb push. If you don't understand that, Google it.
Yeah thanks man, I actually deleted all the cache & internal storage thanks to twrp u can do it in 1 go & I wasn't thinking cause I'm used to having an external SD that I would have files like cm11 & gapps so without thinking I hit clear on everything wiping out my all files but I gather from ur statement I can install the backup I saved to my Dropbox
Thanks to anyone who gave me advice though

I suppose when I get back to my PC I can just flash Cyanogenmod & be done with it
But I'll definitely keep that backup I made of stock KitKat though
Sent from my XT907 using XDA Free mobile app
Yeah, download the backup/nandroid from Dropbox, put your phone into recovery and make sure adb recognizes it, then type 'adb push [insert file name here] /sdcard'. That command will only work if you place the backup into the same directory as adb.
Just wanted to say thanks to anyone who gave me advice & report that I was finally able to restore my nexus 7 using the nexus root toolkit
