Could somebody let me know what the default LCD density value should be on the HTC One (M8)??
Default density of I'm not mistaken is 480
441ppi

Thanks! 441ppi is technically correct regarding the LCD specification, but I don't think that is what is set in the build.prop. The scaling looks off center & too small. It looks correct or "normal" when set to 480.

So I just tried out SlimBean for the GS3 and it works great. It fixes some of the annoyances I was having with CM9/10.
SlimBean allows the user to change the DPI settings (assuming through the build.prop file). The default value makes everything very small and would be great if all my widgets were justified correctly.
Does anyone know what DPI setting I should use to have the stock look & feel/icon size? From what I can tell the default is 241...
Do it in steps of 2 what i mean first 243 dpi then 245 etc until you found the perfect dpi

I totally agree. You want to take it real slow when editing the DPI. I would make a backup first before even thinking about changing anything like that.
320 is a good one. You can go to developer settings and change it instead of using the build prop editor.
Did a nandroid backup and stepped through a few different DPI settings. Turns out 320 is what I was looking for.
Thanks for the help.

Fwiw, 320 is the default, from the factory setting

under which header is it? I don't see it there.
Easy fix(without messing with build.prop): Definitely nandroid backup first. Then download this app: TexDroider DPI.
Worked wonders for me just now. Everything looks great at 320 dpi. It was previously 220.
What is the screen resolution? IE there is 360, 600, 720, 800 etc. I just got it today and I am messing with some theming and don't want to waste time on the wrong ones. I'm theming systemui right now

I believe it was 320. I got mine set to 240 now Do u think you can mod the stock dialer and camera app to fit that!
Thanks ben
Can you explain why you lowered the dpi and how you did it. . One would think one would want more dpi not less?

The lower dpi = higher "resolution" gives you more screen space smaller icons looks way better then the stock huge icons.
You should try it.
I did it with rom toolbox under screen density.

Thanks for the reply, but that's not what I'm referring to.
Themers will understand. The Numbers I listed are all in the stock rom, but only one needs to be themed

What do people think the optimum dpi is for this device? On the samsung galaxy s4 I often used 360 or 340 dpi.
240 max! Probably closer to 180 would be best imo

Have you tried 180 on this phone.... it's tiny. Even 240

Touchwiz and SystemUI crashes when I tried 240. Currently using 350 with decent results. (If only the dialer scaled properly.)

Those are the DPI numbers for the Note 2 which will not work on this phone given the screen is very different.

Using 340 right now myself and and it works well. I don't use Buiild.prop to do it so I don't have problems with the dialer. I use Xposed to set it on a per app basis.
How do you change DPI?

Either by editing build.prop (this will cause scaling issues with touchwiz apps like the dialer) or by using app settings
You're going to need root access and the Xposed framework see here
Using App settings will allow you to change DPI on a per app basis.
320 is working well for me.
I will give 320 a try as well. I switched to a build prop edit for 340 and using closed to switch dialer, contacts, and gallery back to 480.

I really wish we could just recenter the dialer because I really can't stand how big it is, even at 440. Or even just make it scale to the right side instead of left lol.

It's easier to use App settings to control DPI on a per app basis.
I rooted the g3 so I could lower the dpi but now my smart notice widget doesn't work. I tried putting the dpi back up to 640 using app settings (xposed) but it still won't work.
Anyone got a fix for this ?

the lg g3 dpi is 540 not 640 and did you stop the app in settings>apps>smartnotice>force close because otherwise the custom dpi won't work

the exact dpi is 534 try calculating it yourself 1440*2540 at 5.5 inch
Smart notice doesn't work for xxhdpi density, which is 480 dpi.
But 530 dpi works fine

thanks for backing me up with the 530 dpi
to the op did you fc the app after applying the new dpi
I changed my DPI to 530 and I can't get the smart notice to display correctly. I tried rebooting and force closing it, but so far nothing has worked. If I change the DPI back to 640, it works fine.

So? LG set wm.density to 640. Google used 560 for their nexus6. Where is your 530dpi god now?..
Everything works using 530 DPI. The only thing that doesn't work or display properly is the Smart Notice.
