FlashTool loader.sin error - Sony Xperia S, Acro S, Ion

Flashtool recognises my device and will chat to it via ADB, and sees it in both flashmode and fastboot, but every time I try to flash either a full ftf or a kernel.sin I get the error message:

I have an unlocked bootloader, I've updated my drivers and the phone works and is rooted. I have NOT got CWM.
Phone is stuck on .96 ROM (my stock) but .211 stock kernel.
I've read dozens of threads, sorry if it's something simple I've missed. To make matters more difficult I'm working off a linux laptop with no access to Windows, so I've had to translate commands etc to try flash through a terminal rather than through flashtool.
Cheers.

Hi, Did you find out how to fix it? I am now getting the same problem. I am using the latest flashtool-0.9.16.1 and trying to install C6903_14.3.A.0.757_Generic AU_1277-0078.ftf on my xperia z1.

Try using another .ftf file and install ALL/MOST of the drivers in the Fastboot > Drivers. It now says flasing on my SP but it might be the same for other too hopefully.

I can't remember exactly what step fixed this, but I basically did everything again.
I downloaded the flashtool drivers and ftf's / kernels again, and tried different methods; both using full ftf's and kernel only .sin's, and tried to install a recovery alone and using both fastboot and flashmode.
Eventually something worked. Also, at one point my phone said it wasn't rooted but it was. Dunno if that part of the problem or just a symptom.
I'll update if I remember anything more useful.

I had the same problem. My fault was, that i started the flashmode on the phone and opend than the ftf file on my pc and started to flash.
But it works if i open the ftf file and hit the flash button and follow the instructions to start the phone in flashmode.

thank you very much

Thank you all for your help finally it worked

Strange indeed, setting the Acro S in Flashmode prior to starting the flashing via Flashtool gives me this error.
Setting the Acro S in Flashmode when promted by Flashtool to do so, allows me to flash anything...

I got an xperia arc s from someone with mcafee security lock on it. I can't get into the phone and I'm not able to perform a hard reset as the key combination isn't working so the only option I think I have now is to flash the phone but I'm getting this "loader.sin" error whether I set the device in flashmode or I'm prompted by the flashtool. I've already tried 2 firmware files, does anyone know a way I can fix this device?
EDIT: I downloaded a different firmware and an earlier version of the flashtool and it worked :good:

Which firmware and version of flashtool did you use? I'm trying to flash ICS on my Xperia Arc and so far it doesn't work. Though I still can restart the phone normally.

SE xperia arc s LT18i
2.3.4
.62 build
what i did---
tried to follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133650 everything from unlocking BL to flashing to rooting.
so i was able to unblock my BL, then after that tried to flash it using SE xperia flasher by bin4ry and androxyde
1. Go to Jozinek’s post on [ROM]Generic LT15i (Arc) 4.0.2.A.0.42 (1247-1041) (Android 2.3.4) and follow the link named ‘http://multiupload.com/xxxx’ to download official SE world firmware/ROM. Unzip the file and save the LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.42.ftf file in a folder.
2. Go to Androxyde’s post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746 and download the latest version (0.4.1.0) of flashtool.
3. Run the autoextractor in a folder.
4. Download LT15.rar file (attached to this post below) and copy "LT15.sin" to "loaders" folder in flashtool. You can skip this step safely.
5. Copy your “LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.42.ftf” in the "firmwares" folder.
6. Run X10Flashtool.exe (as administrator in case you are working on windows 7/Vista).
7. Follow steps in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Keo61Zffh5Q to flash the LT15i_4.0.2.A.0.42 firmware on your phone. The video asks you to download firmware and flashtool, keep in mind that you already did that in steps 1-6 above.
8. After flashing, restart phone and check your Android version, you will be on 2.3.4.
9. Now go to ‘settings’, ‘Applications’ and tap ‘Development’. Tap ‘Unknown sources’ and ‘USB debugging’ to tick on them.
10. Connect the phone (in running state) back to the computer in media transfer mode. Flashtool should detect your phone now. Press the root button on top left side of flashtool and wait(just a button tap and you are done) to root your phone on latest 2.3.4 firmware.
11. Similarly, install superuser and busybox via flashtool. The phone should now be running a rooted 2.3.4.

You have pit yourself in what is called a boot loop. Did you use cwm or have it installed? If so clean your cache and your dalvic cache try to boot.
If still nothing redo the flash and fallow directions to the letter.
Still nothing flash another Rom.
Good luck

This is WAY too much info (at least for me).
Don't worry. Everything can be unbricked or stuff.
You say you got the BL unlocked? Good. There is 2 ways to make it work:
1. Get a Custom Kernel and Custom ROM from the developers section, the ones you see most appealing, and follow the instructions to flash them. After this, you'll have a functional phone.
2. Do as you said in the thread. Download a good .ftf file and install it on your phone using Flashtool and Flash Mode on your cellphone. Beware it is your phone model (LT15i and LT15a are not the same, this is just an example).
If you are on unlocked BL I'd go with the first option, since this ROMs are bloatware free and have extra tweaks, as well as the Kernels.
lol! one way you can say i was in a panic,
so i downloaded a couple more ftf's, and landed on a LT18i_4.0.2.A.0.62_Generic World UK - that made the phone working again
then, i downloaded another one Xperia Arc (LT18i)_4.0.2.A.0.42_CE and finally got it rooted! phew, thanks guys
i was almost dying inside, ahha!!
so one question, is there a major benefit of upgrading it back to build .62 or just stay with the .42?
problem again,
so im still on 4.0.2.A.0.42 and havent upgraded to build .62 yet
problem is i cant seem to turn off the vibrate on phone, even settings are set to never vibrate.
vibrate - never
haptic feedback - unchecked
any help on this?
Try clearing the cache and try if not something went wrong with flash. Re do

[Q] Xperia Play R800at in bootloop USB Debugging off cannot get in fastboot mode

Trying to fix an Xperia Play R800at. It was running the R800a 2.3.4 North American Generic ftf, and my son had rooted it using gingerbreak (he thinks) on flashtool. Also at one point he attempted to unlock the bootloader but doesn't think that worked
Anyway, the phone was running fine for a long while, and then we switched from a 16gb sd to a 32gb sd. During the switch my son moved some games from the phone memory to the sd. Other than the loss of game progress, everything seemed to be working fine. About a week later the screen started going black during games or when he closed the phone. Because of the feedback he could tell the phone was still operating, just no lit screen. The problem would clear on reboot.
So we researched the problem on Sony and XDA, and it appears the best solution was to reload the software. However since the phone was rooted we had to reload using flashtool first, and then force a recovery reload via PCC. Meanwhile the phone display stopped working altogether and the phone would vibrate but seemingly not boot up.
Steps we have taken so far:
- flashed back to AT&T 3.0.1.8.0.285 using flashtool Result: flashtool said successful but phone would vibrate but not boot
- used PCC to load the Xperia R800 Play software Result: software for phone not found
- used X10_V1_BLRelock.ftf just in case my son was able to unlock the bootloader
- flashed back to AT&T 3.0.1.8.0.285 using flashtool Result: flashtool said successful but phone would vibrate but not boot
- used PCC and the Sony Recovery to load the Xperia R800 Play software onto the phone Result: successful load but goes into bootloop (SE logo comes up bright, fades, blacks out, and does it again and again
- tried various other play ftfs in flashtool - flashtool now telling me USB Debugging is off, and WARN - This file is ignored : simlock.ta - ftf loads otherwise, but Sony's Recovery tool does not recognize anything but the AT&T software
- went back to AT&T 3.0.1.8.0.285 and then re-updated on Sony - same bootloop
- tried to boot the phone in fastboot mode by holding the search button and plugging the usb in - appears to connect in flash mode
So - I believe it is now un-rooted, and relocked, USB Debugging is off, the standard AT&T 3.0.1.8.0.285 software is on there, it goes into bootloop
Any ideas how to fix from here?
I got a soft bick recently in my Xperia Play r800a, but the screen always worked. What I did was flash an r800i ftf and it worked. The simlock.ta omission is maybe an effect of flashing the x10 BL unlock bundle, but it doesnt work to unlock the xplay, and maybe thats why the phone is like that (who knows..... just never flash something made for other model until it is confirmed to work on yours, like some arc and neo v basebands and scripts)
The debugging off state is caused by the stock ftf flashed. When you flash it you get a complete new system with stock configs, so the debuggin is set off by default and thats what you got. Its also unrooted, just if you were wondering
Maybe you should try flashing an r800i ftf (all r800a,at,i work on your device, cause they are all GSM. But NEVER flash an r800x Rom cause it works on CDMA, and it will surely brick your phone.
You could also try to flash a custom stock-based Rom. They can work on stock kernel and will give you a clean sytem as well, but since your screen is not working, it has to be in .ftf format. Just check 'skip kernel' and 'skip confirmation' when doing so.
The only method for a branded phone for unlocking bootloader is to use testpont method (paid) by alejandrissimo (look unlock-bootloader.com). He maybe repair your phone btw

when you did this were you using the latest version of flashtool? installed all adb drivers? is the AT&T 3.0.1.8.0.285 the original back up image of the phone it was rooted? or did you download this from any other source?

I actually did the Blagus relocking ftf which says it is for the Play too here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1134334 After I did this Sony Mobile Update Service started recognizing the phone and 285 sw version and allowed software download and repair.
I figured the Debugging setting and the rooting reset when I flashed it. I tried r800i ftf - same problem. Was thinking about a custom ROM but first things first. I am going to replace the ribbon cable and try again. I suspect the original problem was possibly ribbon cable related. (I shot alejandrissimo a note and he suggested I try this first as well.)
Thanks both for your reponses.

[Q] Unable to access flashmode (green led), need help!

Hi,
I've just rooted the device (c6503), backed up TA-keys, and finally unlocked the bootloader using the official way through sony website. The phone booted fine and my next step was flashing a custom rom... That's when **** happend. I downloaded P.A.C True All in 1 ROM[Nightlies] and followed the instructions how to flash. Flashed the boot.img and then you need to reboot the device in recovery but the 3 sec violet led never happend...
Now I have downloaded stock ftf (C6503_10.1.A.1.434_Customized_DE.ftf) and want to flash it with flashtool but I'm unable to boot the device in flashmode (green led). I can however boot in flashboot mode (blue led) but as I understand, that doesn't help because i can't boot into recovery.
I never flashed a recovery, is that a problem?
What can i do now? Is the phone bricked?
Thanks in advance!
-----------------------------------
It happened to me also.
Start Flashtool, choose your xxxx.ftf and wait till it totally loads (do not connect your phone yet). Now, when your Flashtool is totally ready and the small window opens with the instruction how to connect the phone, open the small backcover of your phone and press-hold the small yellow button till it rings x3 times (it takes ~10-13 seconds to hold the button). Now, do not waist time, press-hold volume down and insert the usb cable, the flashing should start.
I had similar problem and I guess my phone root is corrupted, I cannot download updates directly from Sony but I can flash updates without problems.
If anyone knows how (if its possible) totally reflash everything, you help will be appreciated.
Good luck.
Alright, it seems like I'm having some problems with the usb drivers for flashtool... Are there different drivers for flashmode and fastboot? Because the fastboot drivers seems to be working correct but not flashmode drivers. Running windows xp, maybe that is a problem too Can someone please point me to the right direction of where i can download those usb drivers?
I have the modified android_winusb.inf for the Xperia Z but that doesn't seems to be enough.
I managed to flash FXP cm10.1 and got it running which also gave me a working recovery. But I would like to try out the P.A.C True All in 1 ROM[Nightlies] but when I flash the boot.img of that one I lose the recovery.... Weird, my old HTC desire Z always had the same recovery without any problems while flashing all kinds of ROM:s. This is indeed confusing.
Should i flash the boot.img of the ROM and then a recovery? If so which recovery? As i understand all the recoveries are for stock kernel but the kernel for these custom ROM:s could not be stock right? I'm a bit confused here really
Excuse my bad spelling and such, english is not my main language.
Thank ChimPilot for the quick reply!
Go to Google Play Store and download: Superuser, X-parts and ROM manager. Those are must haves if you are playing with ROMs.
You are in better shape if you can access the bootloader because I cannot, so I am considering to reflash everything and that would be my weekend project.
The problem I have is corrupt path to root and so Sony's PC companion spit me out, Sony's SUS does not go through and my last try would be Emma but it requires unlocked bootloader which is corrupt in my case. If anyone would give me a hint which directon to follow, it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

[Q] Stuck on logo, can't detect phone

Ok, first of all, I have been searching these forums and google all day, so please at least consider reading my question.
So today I decided to finally update my Xperia Arc S to Jelly Bean with CyanogenMod. I own this device for 2 years and all I have done hack-wise was rooting it.
And what the problem is? The update failed, and according to what I have read, this may have been caused due to insufficient internal memory. After that, my phone rebooted and it just can't boot now, it gets stuck with the Sony Ericsson logo.
I also have read that possible solutions were: Update with PCC, SEUS, Flash it with a Stock ROM, flash a stock kernel... And I CAN'T do any of these. PCC and SEUS just don't recognize my phone, SEUS doesn't even have Arc S on the list! The closest i have got to solving the problem was with flashtool, in which I got this happy message "15/044/2013 20:44:42 - ERROR - Error flashing. Aborted" over and over. Having read that this could be caused by the kernel, I tried flashing it instead. But after installing DroidSDK, I can't detect any devices using the "adb devices" command.
Any ideas? If I am just being stupid, I'm sorry, but I swear I searched a hell lot before posting this >_>
Even the repair option in PC Companion?
First - sorry for my english.
Second - try this:
Deattach battery from phone and connect the charge. LED must be green. Wait for ~10 min & then try to flash via Flashtool again and again. Please be patient. In some situations successful flashing might be on 5-6 flashing.

You have installed PcC,SEUS,good.Install gordon flash just in case(look for it on google)!Install flashtool on your pc,turn your Arc on(i know it's bootlooping, but try it can't hurt),run flashtool(just run it),connect your phone(it must be ON),and leave it for a while and see if flashtooo is recognizing your phone(if it does there will be some lines)!.-If this works continue!Download stock .ftf file for lt18i!
I suppose you know how to use flashtool?!.
Try that if that doesn't work SEUS will work and it has Arc and Arc S just look a bit,i know 'cause i have it.PcC won't work 'cause your phone isn't booting up,Well at least it never worked for me when i bricked my arc like this, but did work flashtool, always.I couldn't use SEUS 'cause of a bootloader unlocked.
Good luck, hope you'll fix it and next time, before flashing read the thread twice and follow the exacted steps,no jumping...
P.S for flashing JB you need to have ICS inatalled and i'think bootloader unlocked(not sure)...Cheers

Root Firmware 18.1.A.1.21

There is a way to root new firmware 18.1.A.1.21 . Tested by myself on my new Xperia T3 (D5103).
Follow the steps below. Credits to him: ( Taken from this post: http://forum.android.com.pl/f1428/root-dla-xperii-t3-456064/ )
1. Install ADB drivers. Follow the steps from this post (Method 1 better): http://dottech.org/21534/how-to-ins...ows-computer-for-use-with-your-android-phone/ IMPORTANT: CHECK THAT YOUR PHONE CONNECTS TO PC VIA ADB BEFORE PROCEED TO THE NEXT STEP.
2. With Flashtool, flash the .21 firmware, if you didn't have already flashed.
3. Turn on the phone. Active USB debugging and Install apps from unknown sources.
4. Turn off phone, and flash .14 kernel with flashtool. Download kernel from here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-GorbT9vz2qSlczRHlPWGdKb1U
5. Turn on phone, and connect it to PC via USB. Doesn't matter if phone get stuck in "Updating apps" screen.
6. Download last version of root toolkit by cubeundcube: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559009. With phone connected to PC, launch install.bat from the toolkit. Follow the steps until the phone reboots.
7. Now turn off the phone, and flash again the kernel from .21 firmware: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-GorbT9vz2qQm91VU4wWnZvd28
8. Reboot and now you're on .21 firmware and rooted :good:
Nice one..
Is there no one click method...
Im already on 18.1.A.1.21 firmware
Nice tutorial, the only one I've found!
Do I need to exclude TA in flashtool?
thanks.
as u dont unlock the bootloader there is no reason to do so...
also as for now .. can we even backup the TA partition ??
i've red that after relocking bootloader the drm keys are back ...
Confirmed. This method works very well, even if it is not a one-click method. Thank you.

Thanks, I finally did It
Once your phone is rooted, you can backup TA partition, but you have to do it BEFORE you unlock your bootloader. It won't be possible after unlocking it
If you back up your TA partition, then you can relock your bootloader using that backup, like nothing happened.

Download kernel from here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-
