[Q] Set Up Has Stopped Working...Help? - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

So I rooted my Note 8, and was deleting the bloatware when I think what I did is I deleted something that should not have been deleted.
The tablet reset, and was stuck on the pulsing SAMSUNG screen. I did a hard reset and it brought me through the setup wizard, and at the end I recieve the error "Unforunately, The Setup Wizard Has Stopped Working". After this, the main screen is still blank, although the drop down settings menu is still there.
I have done factory reset, re-flashed ODIN, had it delete the entire cache and reset...still doing the same thing.
Any advice on this? Thanks!

You need to flash a proper factory ROM to recover. You probably deleted a system file, anything you delete in root will not recover from a factory reset.
I suggest being more careful when you recover to stock.
GT-N5110 & GT-N5120 - 64GB 633x on board, Status Official on SafeRooted OEM ROMs with Wanam Xposed and RootCloak. The only way to fly 8+ hours!

Yeah I understand I wasn't as careful as I should have been. A factory ROM meaning like the entire OS?
I think i found the proper Kit Kat ROM, downloading that now.

Well, I guess you are already further along than I thought. I guess a custom rom would do, just I thought you wanted stock.

I'm DLing flexbeam too which is going much faster, so I'll probably flash that one first and see if that solves my issues. If I feel like a change I'll see if that KitKat file I downloaded works well.
Thank you!

Now I'm confused. I downloaded the FLEXBEAM ROM but it is a Disc Image file. I assumed it would be a MD5 / TAR file that I could use with ODIN to flash to my device. I'm not sure what to do with this Disc Image file. The directions on the thread I downloaded it from are very vague, they just say "flash to device".

I am so confused. None of these custom ROMS are .tar files that ODIN can open. I know I am missing something but none of the installation instructions are idiot proof.
I tried to find the original firmware to install on the device but I cannot for the LIFE of me find a US version. There is every other country in the world but U.S. What I would really like to do is upgrade to KIT KAT but I can't find any firmware for my model/region.
It's starting to make me crazy. I need some help here.

Did you by any change extract the tar file??? If so that would be your problem, you have to put that zip file on your SD card and "Flash" with CUSTOM recovery (Philz or TWRP) on your DEVICE, go to INSTALL ZIP and locate the file, select the zip and it will be Flashed on your device.
NOT with Odin.
AND DO NOT extract that file!!!

Assuming you have the WIFI ONLY N5110 device you can go here http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-N5110 for Stock Firmware look far "XAR" this will be the "US version" download the file and use Odin to flash it to your device and you be all set to go.
Here http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ you can also find Stock Firmware they don't have "XAR version" here but the "BTU" will work also as that is the "UK version".
Hoping this helps

I tried flashing 4.2.2 but I got a failure through ODIN about 80% of the way through.
I will give a custom ROM a shot as well, but it's looking like this might become a 300$ paperweight. Oops!

You should have used saferoot.zip after setting USB debugging enabled. Way too many Note 8.0 peeps following the leader on rooting through Odin. It is not the best way to root, nor is it 100% fool proof.
I don't know if you have done anything before you rooted, such as flashing a custom recovery, or flashing a custom ROM.

I did nothing. I rooted, then I used titanium backup to delete the bloatware. I remember specifically deleting something that had to do with Yahoo before my device reset itself and got stuck in the infinite loop.
Can you give me a little more insight into Saferoot?

Unfortunately, it now has "Firmware update encountered an issue" error, and it is flashing.
I can get it to the download menu, still flashing, but I'm out of ideas.
Thanks for all your help! Maybe I'll sell it to a blind kid.

Do a search on saferoot... I don't have a link but I did put a download on one of the threads in the Note 8.0 sections... Q&A I think.
Make sure you have Odin 3.07, have your note 8.0 set to download in recovery.
Use the proper stock ROM for your note.
Make sure your USB cable is good. A few have had Odin issues with some USB cables. Also I have replaced my Samsung cable twice, now I use only Sony/Ericson and Blackberry as they seem to be more durable and much longer and can fast charge with the Samsung charger without any issues.
You should be able to flash the replacement ROM and set USB Debug on to root with Saferoot.

What model do you have???
Because if you download the proper firmware for your Model!!! You should NOT be getting a firmware error.
And once AGAIN do NOT extract the downloaded file!!! Place that file in the PDA slot of Odin let it MD5 check and hit start.
Hoping this helps

No, your not!
Write down the exact steps you take and we'll see where it goes wrong.
And just for giggles, re-download that firmware again you might have a bad download.
Once it is downloaded extract it ONCE!!! it will create a folder with the MD5 file.

Samsung galaxy SIII hard bricked will not boot no power, but ODIN 1.85 can recognize it, (not the new Odins), when I try to re-flash it with Odin I get stuck at setupConnection..

i have the same problem i used the Odin3 v1.85 and installed CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4 zip but it failed. so then i tried to reboot it and said firmware update encountered an issue and something else. then i looked up how to unbrick and the post said to downloaded the zip CF-Insecure-SGS3_XX_NEE_ALE8-v1.2 and used Odin to install now i got nothing but a black screen buy it will go into download mode and Odin read it
You're not hard bricked if Odin can read your phone. Reboot your computer then reconnect and flash a stock rom to be safe.

If I'm not wrong ODIN uses TAR files and not ZIP files. Try unziping and see if there is a TAR file if there is then thats what you have to use in ODIN.

I'm not saying that was the problem or that you did it wrong, but maybe the ROM was forced to flash and was truly not compatible or was corrupt, bricks are highly likely to occur in this case

The roms I have downloaded are supposed to be for Sprint s3 I was running stock JB 4.3 if that makes any difference, any help on what to do know, thinking of trying the unbrick mmc card trick .... idk what else to do... thanks : ) and something went wrong somewhere for sure... lol I also found out my exact model number if that helps. Ok, a few things I noticed....
1. You are using a very old version of Odin. I recommend only using 3.07 or 3.09.
2. The COM port box is yellow, which probably was trying to caution you about something.
3. You have a Sprint model S3. This is the T-Mobile S3 forum.
4. You have a Sprint S3, but were trying to flash old T999 firmware! This simply will not work, and if it were to flash, insta-brick!
What you need to do is start using the Sprint forums. Only flash items you find in those forums, and nothing else. While some of our roms might flash and boot on yours, they will never function very well. This is one of the things the asserts in an updater script are intended to protect against.
Finally, just a bit of posting advice. Please use proper punctuation. Small mistakes are ok, but posting with no punctuation at all just makes it difficult for people to read, and many will just close the thread and move to the next without bothering to help.

Oops! Just realized the pic in the op wasn't yours! But still, theyre all good points you should check before flashing. Also make sure kies is uninstalled or disabled on your computer.
But most importantly, you need to be in the Sprint forums. We can help a bit here, but you need to ONLY use stuff from your devices forum. And a lot of it we simply may not be familiar with.
Good luck!

Thank you.. I knew I was in the wrong forum and that is why I said my s3 was a Sprint device... My problem however was the same exact problem. I got it fixed with file from another forum, while follow info from yet another forum, the file that worked for me was HomefixSprint_S3_L710.img the debrick_sph_l710.img would not work for me. I used win32diskimager and burned .img file to class 10 32gb card, stuck it in went in to download mode and used odin to write firmware file... Anyway back up any running.. I didn't download any t-mobile roms or anything that wasn't for the Sprint S3, what I did do was try and load an older JB rom that was under V4.3, it wasn't that long ago when a person could flash any android version one wished, it looks like Samsung is getting as bad as Apple you can move up but not back. Any tips on how to safely downgrade? Anyway thanks for taking the time to respond. : ) Cause no one has in the Sprint S3 forum yet.

No, Samsung is not turning into apple, there is a reason you cannot downgrade from a Knox bootloader. And to downgrade, with this device we can just flash an older ROM and it will work, maybe its different with the Sprint variant? Try to search in their forums if you haven't already

[Q] SM-T217s - my first ever brick.

Hi friends. Long time lurker here.
I've had many Samsung phones and many other android devices, but this is my first brick.
I had flashed the rooted SM-T217s rom, and the wifi wasn't working, so I tried to reflash it, at which point everything went wonky. I searched the forums and found some threads on bricked 217s's, but nothing specific to my situation.
The tablet went to the emergency firmware update screen, and I haven't been able to get Kies to even recognize it. I try to Odin back to the latest stock (B8) but it fails at 'Get PIT for mapping.' My google-fu tells me this is not a good thing.
Am I hosed here? What else can I try?
Thanks XDA, you're my only hope.

Okay well I fixed it.
Turns out, the problem was that I was using Odin on a VM on my Mac. I had tried to use a PC, but I think the USB controller was too old, so that failed too. I had to use Heimdall to flash each of the partitions from the B8 zip manually. It worked, and I'm back in business, though not rooted. I suppose I'll wait until there's a better way to root before I try it again.

Ok guys. Heres my deal with this TAB. Ive rooted... Unrooted. wipe wipe wipe wippty wipe . WiFi not working. Fixed it with NB8. So here now I sit with:
----NB8 Wifi works---
----TWRP-----
Yup, pathetic i know. I cant even get the supersu to flash. TWRP wont move it over to flash off external sd card. Im not hip to abd plus i heard you leave yourself wide opento visitors when using that.
Ive eye hustled a thread on here that some friends are getting back together to rock it on a custom rom so my fingers are crossed. This tab is so neglected i mayjust go get the 210r. But i really dont want to. So my question is....
Can someone please give me links to files that work with the NB8 stock firmware. Some of the links are outdated after sprint uploaded the new bootloader. We are a small community on this tab so lets stick together on this. I dont think cynogen isgoing to do anything for it. As they concentrate on thier new phone which looks pretty sweet by the way. K im done. Going to wait for help and play with this htc one s
thats been collecting dust.

[Q] can't boot into android

i'm not sure what caused it as i was doing a couple things at the same time. i tried to activate the xposed framework for the 3rd time or so, it keeps saying it's installed but not activated - is knox blocking it or something?
i was also trying to delete the bloatware in /system/apps - i only removed the most obvious ones, though i did remove the files for knox and carrier iq, but i didn't uninstall anything yet. could that be why it's not booting up? i did move all the files to an external SD card.
now when i try to boot up it's stuck on the white t-mobile 4G LTE screen at maximum brightness, the blue LED is permanently on as well. i tried deactivating the xposed framework using the hardware buttons while booting but that doesn't make any difference, so i don't think this has to do with the xposed framework.
i can get into recovery and download mode - is there a file i can flash to get back into android?
thanks

You need to restore all the files you backed up to external sd card first.
Then since you don't know which files/apps are 100% safe to remove
try to remove only 2 or 3 of the most obvious bloat apps at a time and
keep track of what you have removed.
Good luck!
the external SD card i used to copy the files to decided it doesn't want to work anymore.. won't mount on my computer either.. what can i do without tripping knox to get back into android?

Looks like you will need to odin flash the full N900T official NF4
firmware, here is the download link:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/f9...4_HOME.tar.md5
It will not trip knox since it's the official firmware.

thanks for the link, but i need the NB4 or NE6 firmware, as i don't think the towelroot method will work on the NF4 firmware and i'm pretty sure flashing the firmware will cause me to lose root, yeah? do you have a link for NB4 or NE6 that actually works? i've gone through about 5 different links now and am getting rather frustrated.
can we please get a semi-decent hosting server for these large image files?! i'm so sick of downloads timing out at 90% after 3 hours. i will gladly host files on my own server...
i tried flashing the NB4 firmware file via odin a few times, but failed each time. then the phone tells me to select recovery mode in kies and try again. but kies says it doesn't support my phone. i'm running kies 3 and just updated to the latest version. is there anything else i can do before i try testing another firmware file (if the download ever completes)?

i tried flashing the NB4 firmware file via odin a few times, but failed each time. then the phone tells me to select recovery mode in kies and try again. but kies says it doesn't support my phone. i'm running kies 3 and just updated to the latest version. is there anything else i can do before i try testing another firmware file (if the download ever completes)?

Failed root attempt left tablet at the Samsung screen

I have been searching the forum and google and have been unable to reach a solution yet.
I am not a noob, but i am not an expert either so use small words ha.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 5210 with the most recent OTA update.
Last night I attempted to root my device using this:
androidxda (DOT) com/root-samsung-galaxy-tab-3-10-1-gt-p5210
It claimed successful and my device started to reboot and hung up at the Samsung GALAXY TAB 3 screen. I am unable to get to recovery mode on the device. Only able to go to download mode. I have tried several options but have been unable to find a way to flash it successfully. The flashes i have tried downloading were all in .zip and that obviously isn't able to be used in Odin. I have researched how to convert the files into a .tar but I don't have linux. Can someone please help me because I need my tablet. I know it can be saved but I can't seem to locate the answers. I am also getting concerned that it is unable to charge the battery being in the condition it is in now so I am trying to conserve the battery on the tablet until it is absolutely needed. Thanks.

First of all - Welcome to xda
Your tab is soft bricked, something has gone wrong with your system files... Honestly it seems like you know enough to get it done, but are struggling a bit with the file formats. You are correct in saying that Odin won't use zip files, but you shouldn't have to convert anything to tar or download linux! If you extract the zip files, you should find a .tar or .tar.md5 file (inside the zip file) that Odin can use, put it in the PDA mode box, etc etc... If your downloads don't have the correct files inside them, try THIS thread.
Let me know if you get it sorted :good:

I had already tried the method and file in the forum you linked me to. It failed almost instantly. That's when I turned everything off and tossed it all to the back seat of my work truck before it got thrown at the windshield. I keep seeing people saying they have trwp or whatever. I don't even know what that is haven't researched that. Is it something i need as well?
I've never successfully rooted a Samsung device. I used to do this stuff a lot back with the droid x with Linux and everything was pretty simple. Does Samsung change their bootloader with each update like Motorola did then? I was wondering that when trying to install a firmware of a previous version that maybe that was the problem.
All I wanted root for was to just tweak some things and be happy. It has turned into a nightmare.
C,
hi,
the consistent/common thread of this problem is/seems to be taking the ota and trying unverified/gimmicky
root methods.
there are recoveries for the gt-p52xx in the tab 10.1 forum
the majority of samsung devices root as follows;
if a custom recovery exist, flash it.
then download recent or latest version of chainfire's supersu update zip, reboot to recovery
backup your rom first, then flash supersu, if everything goes well, once you have set up your stock rom with root in place
make a new backup.
samsung ota's are death incarnate, reject them.
goto the tab 10 forum and get busy ! you said it yourself, you're not a noob, you know the drill. :good:

I have tried the recoveries in the forum and it failed seconds after starting.
I don't do this stuff regularly as I don't hardly have the time. I haven't done anything of this nature in years so I'm well out of the loop on things..

okay, hmm, when you say it fails, do you mean odin fails to flash and if so what is the reason/ouput ?
or do you mean that you are now in a recovery bootloop ?
note- though i go the full route of packing recovery.img's for odin flashing, the md5 checksum always seems to
come up as invalid, the working "remedy" is to remove the .md5 extension from the "odin-flashable-recovery".tar.md5 file
by renaming the file to "odin-flashable-recovery".tar
odin will no longer attempt the checksum verification but the recovery file will flash.
make sure you have samsung-usb-drivers for windows installed. on the main page of my devhost archive [link is in my signature]
you will find the tools you need. the possible problem is that the ota you installed may have overwritten your bootloader, for that i don't
have a reliable fix, so if anything make sure you also have the stock recovery ready to go as well as supersu update zip
already downloaded onto your device for rooting.
after you flash the custom recovery [with auto-restart in odin disabled] run the flash and wait for the res-ok message, give it another second or two then disconnect the tab and force reboot to recovery, home,vol-up and power, once in recovery make a full backup, then flash supersu zip and reboot, if you do go into recovery loop, force reboot to odin mode, home,vol-down and power, follow the on screen instruction, now reconnect your tab to pc and use odin to flash back stock recovery.

Okay guys I appreciate the help. I finally got it. I tried the method on Zachisimo's post on unbricking and finally got it installed.
After it installed, it left me with a bootloop and I was actually able to go into recovery mode this time and do a factory data reset and wipe cache then everything went well. I am a happy dude now.
Going to attempt rooting it again and does anyone have any suggestions on what ROM to install? I have never used any custom ROM's before so that is a new area for me. Feeling more confident knowing how to save it from the dead. :good::good::good:

If you use it then thats what i shall try. First i gotta find a root, then I have seen many people recommend philz recovery, and then the rom?
question why does Restl3ss say wait 10minutes after installing a rom before doing anything?

[Q] Boot Loop/Stock firmware/I seriously need help PLEASE!!!!

Hello all *waves*
This is my very first post although I have used this site countless times. I'm just going to jump right to it because I seriously need some help!
I am trying to fix my SGH-M919 (Tmobile S4) that just suddenly stopped working one day. I have tried EVERYTHING! Kies, custom roms, Odin but my phone still will not load past the Samsung logo. It will boot into recovery (TWRP) and Download mode. I know that using Kies is the quick fix but (LUCKY ME...not) my phone is one of the few phones tmobile/Samsung sent out with no S/N on the sticker under the battery. Since I cant get into my phone I cant get the S/N and I do not have the box anymore.
I have tried using the many sgh-m919 Stock Rom files online, including this site, but nothing is working. When I spend hours downloading them and begin to use them in odin, Odin doesn't load the file for me to flash.
I know I am using Odin correctly because I have done it successfully countless times in the past. I have also tried EVERY download file out there, but I can't find a good one that I can flash in Odin. I have also tried all of the guides on this site several times so please don't redirect me to them, because I have seriously and correctly tried them all. If you have any suggestion please let me know. I can't afford the 161.00 Samsung is requiring or the 175 warranty fee tmobile is charging. PLEASE HELP.
And if some has a good copy of the Stock Rom for SGH-M919 that they would be willing to email me I would FOREVER be greatful!
also my sdcard and battery are not the issue.... tried that too
Thanks,
Nikki
Were there any symptoms or anything you may have done out of the ordinary that might or might not have caused the problem? By saying that odin will not load files, is there an error message or what exactly do you mean by that? And what version odin are you using?

I don't know if its something I have done wrong or not. I followed all of the instructions to the letter. I think (but am not sure) that I don't have a usable copy of the Stock Firmware.
I am using v3.10 but I have tried them all.
When I click on AP in Odin, then click on the file I am sent back to Odin, but the file (and filename) doesn't appear in the AP box like normal.
The stock firmware files take a while for odin to validate md5 check I think. Select your firmware file in Odin's selector, then wait a few mins for bit to process before giving up. This time lag surprised me first time I flashed stock firmware. Big file means longer wait!

The longest I have waited has been an hour, do you think that I should still wait longer?
Try different version of odin. Even if the file was bad, it would say something
Try a different pc.
