Hey Guys,
I just received my G2! I am based in Australia and did not buy directly from T-Mobile. Is there likely to be a method for unlocking the phone ourselfs on this forum?
My other option is to purchase an unlock code.
Regs,
Kit
My suggestion is too call T-Mobile USA and request an unlock code, it's free but might take about 7 days to get the code.
I am interested if all works well for you. I will be moving to Australia and I am on the fence to either buy a Iphone 4 or a G2 for use in Australia.
Sorry to bump this? How did this work out?
You know that you can just unlock the phone yourself for free with GFree, right? You can also root the phone while your at it in one go.
Ya, you can fully unlock your phone using gfree. Do you know how to use adb?

look at subsidy unlock in the wiki
I'm from Australia too
Other than unlock codes, I cannot really suggest any other solution. Having been in the telecommunications industry for a few years now, I have learned that unlock codes are the only genuine way of unlocking phones.
I would find someone with good feedback on eBay, or if you were looking for a free solution (if you are willing to do a bit more to get it), I have had success with freeunlocks.com. But in the end, choose a reputable site, with lots of feedback and good support, to avoid the risk of bricking your phone (although I believe the G2 can't be bricked by entering too many codes, but not 100% sure).
Or just follow the guides here, carrier like tmobile will give you the unlock code free if you meet certain criteria. I was gonna get it that way cuz I met their criteria. But ended up doing this first lol
Hey,
I got my Nexus two months ago and I've loved it unconditionally!
But I'm moving to the USA for three months in the summer and I really want to be able to use it over there. I'm just wondering is there an efficient way to unlock the carrier restrictions without paying my carrier? I'm on a contract and they won't do it.
I have until June, so if nothing is available now, I'm sure it will be then-provided it's possible.
I'm really not sure if this is possible because I'm totally unused to Android-I came from an iPhone 4.
I don't mind using Custom ROMs, Rooting, etc.

The Galaxy Nexus is factory unlocked. All Nexus phones are. It's one of Googles provisions for these phones.
not anymore, carrier sold GNs are locked. If your operator won't unlock it, there are a lot of sites that will unlock samsung phones. I got my unlock code off ebay for about £9...
you need to enter the code again after a factory reset so keep it safe somewhere

?? Mine was. I thought they all were still. Is it only in certain countries than? I bought one from Bell Canada and it is unlocked. Either way ignore my post I just assumed all of them were still unlocked.
@OP I found lots of places to buy unlock codes cheap. If you aren't in a hurry you can also wait until we find a way to unlock it with software.
I got the chance to test it out today and as it turns out, it's unlocked.
I got the phone in a strange way where there was very little contact with the carrier because it's on a corporate contract.
Either way, it's unlocked, but thank you guys for the help!
I'm using CDMA/LTE GNex, so this doesn't apply to me.. but just wondering..
Is the unlock code unique to each device or do all Gnexuses have the same code?
If the latter, why does no one publicize it?

they are unique, if someone cracked the encryption ( pay sites ) they could sell the keys they can create. you need to give your IMEI to be able to generate your code
Out of curiosity what carriers are locking the phone? I now have used 3 different phones all factory unlocked. Is this just certain countries?
Hey guys,
Sorry if this question has been asked over and over already. I tried searching but cant seem to find a definite answer.
Is there a way to SIM Unlock the TELUS SGH-T989D? I already tried the unlockers on the market, including the ones that need Root, but they arent working.
Any help is appreciated
Thanks in advance.
PS. For Telus S2X owners, how did you sim unlock your phone? (which website did you use to get unlock code)
i know that the t-mobile version which i think is in the same boat, needs an unlock code that you have to get from your carrier or a website. I used a unlocked website cellunlock.net and use the discount code android50.
i also did my research and this was the only answer i could find
Obviously you simply need a unlocking code to unlock this phone. I unlocked it on the spot from a phone store that was not from telus but all he did was that he made a phone call to request for a code.
AT&T skyrocket phone users have trouble unlocking their phones because AT&T claims that their phones are specifically designed for their carrier only which I think is probably untrue.
Anyway, I did unlock my LG G2X using a site called unlockthatphone.com at $15. Try that site. Also, I think it is a good idea to call Telus as well directly.
Pickup the phone dial 611. Ask t-mobile.. Tell them your going somewhere outside the country and you need unlock code.. It should arrive 3 to 7 days in your email you give them.

I've written to AT&T and told them I am going abroad (which was actually true, but who cares) and I need to use my S3 phone with local provider's SIM. They sent me the unlock code for free in a couple of hours. :good:
I paid $7.5 to cellphoneunlock yesterday, the code arrived in about 2 hours and it worked.

Really? I chatted with them online, asked them if there was any way i could have the unlock code for my phone, should the need arise that i have to use it on a different network. Had my code in like 10 minutes.
Thanks for all the replies guys.
I am going to buy a unlock code from mobileincanada as they seem to be priced closely to a couple other sites I've looked at, and I figure why not support a Canadian company.
Thanks for replying so quick guys. I really wish there was a free method of unlocking this phone, but oh well.
I chatted with AT&T and told them I was going abroad. Within 3 minutes they gave me an unlock code for free. I have been an AT&T customer for 2 months only.
AT&T has been known to give out unlock codes for free, but can the same be expected of a Canadian carrier? Highly doubt it.. they will gouge you for $50 for something that probably costs them nothing
I don't think they give out unlock codes at all... I haven't heard anyone or read anything from ANY of the Canadian carriers doing that. I've always read AT&T doing it, if you ask politely.
It can be worth the try, it won't hurt to try. If they don't you can always pay for an unlock code... But always try the free route first.
As asked light night and got denied. I've been with AT&T for years. I might be traveling at the end of the month. I did the online chat and was told I would have to wait until my contract was up before they would do it.

I just registered my bell sgs3 on bell.ca and was able to get an unlock code instantly there.
My sgs3 was purchased outright so that may have been a factor.

yeah, I asked Bell and they said it will charge me $75 for an unlock code.

Unfortunately that only works on the Stock ROM. Personally I'd rather just pay the ~$10 and get the unlock code rather than going through the hassle of going back to the Stock ROM and running through that method.

lazy lazy lazy lazy that's what that says to me!

I am curious if the unlock code can only be used on a stock ROM.
I have an unlock code but it won't work when I try with either a Telus sim or a att sim on my Rogers S3.
Every time I try I get an unsuccessful message..

Just got my Note 2 (Globe Philippines), over the weekend. Since we spend half the year in the US and the winter here in the Philippines, I want to remove the SIM lock before we go back to the US. I tried the free unlock method that is posted elsewhere in the forums here, however since my firmware is version is 4.1.2, that unlock method no longer works. It was mentioned in a number of places about downgrading to 4.1.1 firmware, however since that voids the warranty is something I'd rather not do. What I'm wondering is if anyone has found a way to do this with the 4.1.2 in place, or am I better off by simply going to one of the pay services? If the pay service is the best or only option, could anyone give recommendations on who is the best or more importantly who to avoid? Thanks in advance...
Downgrading won't void warranty if I am not wrong.
But the methods would if I am correct.

Doesn't your cell provider unlock phones? You could try calling them and explaining that you're out of the country a lot and need to SIM unlock so that you can use a local SIM. I don't know about the Philipines, but lots of providers world wide will do this, though they might charge a fee.
If not, then unlocking is likely to void your warranty anyway, so why worry about downgrading? Besides, as long as you downgrade to an official ROM, just doing that won't void your warranty.
I would agree with respectable member that asked you to contact your provider, as I was working for many international mobile network providers before, I know for fact that almost 85% of network providers unlock their locked handsets upon customers request, but it varies from a provider to another and from a handset to another, so they could be asking you for a fee, and they might do it for free, but the pain will be generated if your network does not unlock phones, or they do but they don't unlock this particular handset.
The other point will be with the alternatives of applications and tricks that you can perform to unlock it yourself, however, all of the alternatives will differently require rooting the phone which by default voids the warranty, so if you wish to proceed let me know and i will be more than happy to refer you to many many topics that will help you unlocking it, but again, remember that such action will void the warranty.
Don't worry about warranty, it can be restored.

Good point, thanks for the tip, I'll check with them before we head back. I give them a couple months though so they know I pay my bills, no hurry anyway.

I did see that thread and was hoping that would be the case, but I tried with a SIM from another carrier (AT&T US), but got the warning that it was not a proper SIM. I kind of suspect this came about with the 4.1.2 update.

I'm currently a subscriber of the same (Globe) network and this n7100 was my recontracting bonus with them though I remember that part of the 24 month contract says that the devices supplied is locked and cannot be used with other sim cards from other providers,. But I also remember my mom used to have an arrangement with the competing provider (Smart) to have her supplied mobile phone unlocked by default, without paying any extra fees, so there might be a slim chance we could also have it arranged with Globe,.
