Hello,
My computers were recently stolen in a burglary.
Are there any methods of rooting 4.3; UVUENC2 without a computer?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I don't quite understand how to use this thread in conjunction with Mobile Odin. MO requires root which I am trying to do without a computer. Could you walk me through the process? Much obliged.
There is no way to root without a computer that I am aware of. Sorry.

if any PC with no options, you can try CF-Auto-Root.
to some help.
Cf autoroot is one option. I personally recommend root66 though. I just feel its a more straight forward, and safer method to use, plus Its a good idea to keep a copy of the firmware on your computer anyway.
Im not saying cfar isnt safe to use. Lots have used it successfully. Im just giving my own pov on the two.
Just steer clear of the toolkit.

I have an unrooted Samsung Galaxy S2 Sprint version that I never rooted, and I just updated to ICS stock (over the air update). While I had rooted another, this is my wife's phone and I want to root it to get better control over the battery issues. I read the wiki, but it all was dated to before the update.
Do any of the rooting methods work once you have already upgraded to the latest ICS update that came from Sprint?

I am unsure of the rooting methods at this point. Did you check the one click rooting sticky? I would put the phone in download mode and odin a rom of your choosing (like el29 from sfhub) then one click root, recovery and flash a rom of your choosing. This process is of course only if the existing methods don't work with the OTA.

Thanks for this. Will give it a shot tonight. While I am new at posting here, I have used this forum many times. I appreciate everyone doing all of this hard work!

Use the preserve data version and you won't lose anything like contacts, files etc.
Will this work on a Sprint Samsung S2 running...
All,
I'm a total noob to rooting etc. A few questions to those who have done this. I have a Sprint Galaxy SII (model SPH-D710) running 4.0.4 w/Kernel ver. 3.0.15-SPH-D710.FH13-CL663858 [email protected] #3 - First can this be rooted? Are there any drawbacks or issues doing so (things not working etc.)? What is the best process and can anyone direct me to the best method to date?
Thanks,

Thanks for the info... Still looking to see if anyone can answer my other questions about rooting the ver, I have and if it's worth doing or if it's going to create more problems. Really just need to be able to use WiFi hotspot without getting jacked by Sprint.
Thanks..

The second link in the post above yours answers the question.
Once rooted you can use wifi tether from play store.

You can also take a look in my signature. I have a guide to manually rooting if not all, most ICS powered devices on the sgs2 epic 4g touch.
Here is my little guide: http://tinyurl.com/icsroot

You have to remember that even though you are saying you are a noob it does not mean that you should not read, read, read and then read some more. Honestly I have no problem with your questions but if you took some time to read stickies and info in the forum you would have found the answers to your questions. Also a Google search referencing Wifi Hotspot and not being rooted would of taken you to FoxFi. I suggest you give that a try prior to rooting if thats all you really need.
Remember either xda or Google is there to help you but they can not if you do not ever use them properly. My last piece of advice if you are not one to do reading or not one to really want to take risk. DONT ROOT try FoxFi or the host of other tether options that dont require root
I second using Febby's method - that's how I would do it. Its the scalpel vs. ax analogy - Febby uses a scalpel, those who re-flash an entire rom use an ax. Both work if you follow directions.
Only down side to febby's method is yellow triangle. It is easy to get rid of any way.

Alternatively if you want Superuser, busybox and su instead of Supersu I have this .ZIP file here:
http://garwynn.rainmotorsports.net/subusybox.zip
It's the same one that I use for the rooted packages.
How about JB?
My question is similar, only my phone (a Sprint Galaxy S2 [SPH-D710]) is already updated OTA to Jelly Bean. I'm looking to root only (keeping the stock ROM). Can someone point me to the correct guide for this?
Do I just use the GB27 One-Click from here?: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31961585
With that One-Click, are these the correct instructions?: http://www.rwilco12.com/Files/Devic...Sprint) (SPH-D710)/Tutorials/SPHD710-Root.php
In the above instructions is mentions flashing a stock kernel to remove the Yellow Triangle and reset the Odin count, but if a stock kernel is what I am going for in the first place, is there a way to save a step?
Are these instructions a better way to go?: http://www.android.gs/root-galaxy-s2-official-jelly-bean-4-1-2-xwlsn/
Or how about these instructions?: http://www.sxtpdevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=166
This is my first android phone, so I am completely new to this. Can someone please set me straight? You guys are awesome!

OK,
You are another admited nooby, and that is OK.
However please, please take some time and read throught the stickies, how tos and follow up posts to the Original Posts.
You WILL save yourself a whole lot of time, frustration and possible flaming.
If you want the latest JellyBean Stock follow the insturctions here. They are detailed and precise.
It is the one-click root method that will give you the ernel, ROM and Modem in one shot.
You will NOT have a custom recovery (with CWM) and will NOT have the yellow triangle.
Not that you must run the one-click 'as administrator' first AND put your phone into download mode before before plugging it into the PC.
If you want a custom recovery (Garwynn's or Agat's) then you can keep the yellow triangle away by using Mobile Odin Pro. BUY it in the Play Store. Download the custome recovery of your choice and open Mobile Odin, Select Kernel, navigate to the .tar file you've transfered to your SD card and 'flash firmware'.
Really though please take some time, don't be impatient. It can save you making an expensive paperweight and have a taste of sh%t in your mouth.
Good luck.
Thanks!

Thanks. Your link is the link that I list at #5, above. I took the time to read through many many threads on this, but with so many unfamiliar terms and procedures, I wanted to make sure that I was following the method that will get me the results that I am after. Thanks so much for the confirmation!
without tripping the flash counter(or resetting it)?
i'm confused, just because there are so many methods. there's this method on how to root without tripping the flash counter, and then there's the snapdragon toolkit which seems the easiest, but you have to reset the flash counter using "chainfires triangle away". and then there's this tutorial with a video (which i can't view right now)- where it says to use Odin... don't have the phone yet, i'm planning on doing it when i get it this week, but where do i get Odin from? is it included in the snapdragon toolkit? i've been modding since my old htc g1, and the g2, but the GS3 seems a bit trickier, so i wanna make sure i don't mess anything up. thanks in advance! :highfive:
i used the no-trip method, and it is very simple. just read and follow all the directions. i pm'ed you a link to get Odin 3.04, since i cant post links yet
the method shown in the video trips the counter...
EDIT: your title also mentioned flashing. once youre rooted, you can download apps from the play store that can install a custom recovery to your phone (anything you do on your phone, as in, without a computer, will not trip the flash counter), and you can flash that way. i use TWRP's touch recovery, looks and works fine so far. you can find the thread about it and others in the android dev section
thank you, sir! so are you using the no trip method because it's safer? because while the tool kit may trip the flash counter, it can be reset using the triangle away... i just wanted to know which method was safer, in terms of there being a smaller chance of bricking the phone. thanks again!
i would say it is. i used to use odin all the time on my Vibrant, never had so much as a hiccup. i believe theres a warning at the beginning of chainfire's triangleaway thread saying it may brick your phone (probably just if you do it wrong). that, in addition to the fact that the other methods of rooting require multiple steps, just makes more room for something to go wrong. no-trip, all you do is put your phone into download mode, plug it in, load the .tar file into odin, and hit start.

Thats the way I did it with no problems. I just used the toolkit for the drivers. The Odin method is much simpler less steps and less chance of messing it up.
I used the toolkit I'm the sticky under the dev section took me less than 5min to do.

Hey everyone, I updated my T-Mobile S3 to 4.1.1 when it came out two weeks ago and my phone was rooted on ICS. I had already downloaded the stock firmware to use with Odin before the root66 firmware was uploaded here. I was too lazy to redownload it so I figured I would just root after I updated to JB. I realized the toolkit that I used to root in ICS does not work in JB and after looking through the forum it seemed like the only way would be to push the root66 firmware in Odin. The thread that shows how to use the roo66 says that its used if you don't want to void your warranty and if it does not matter there are easier ways to do it. So, is there a faster way to root the T-Mobile stock JB or would I have to use root66 with odin? Also, when I pushed the stock JB using odin I did not lose any data on the phone, I know it's probably the same with the root66 but I just wanted to double check with you guys if I would lose any data after pushing the root66 firmware using odin. All help will be appreciated. Thanks a lot.
No you shouldn't lose any data, but it can happen. Always backup first!
Root66 imo is the easiest and safest way. You can check out cf-root in original development too. Never used that one though.

Thanks Doc. Also, the only real reason I wanted my root back was to use the Wifi Tether app. It worked well on ICS however I heard people were having problems with it on JB. Do you or anyone else know if it works or not?
It has been confirmed working, but Tmo has also been blocking tethering on more devices.

Search xda for treve tether. He's released a mod that seems to have a very high success rate.

download an app called easy tether. easy as it gets right there man, the app will walk you through the setup... when you get to the part when you need to find out what version of windows you are on (if on windows), open your start menu and where it says "search programs and files" type: dxdiag
your system info will pop up. on your way
as far as the rooting method, honestly, i think CF root is the easiest way. it's just booting into download mode and navigating to the .tar.md5 file... he wasn't joking when he said it literally takes 30 seconds.
and that easy tether app, does not require root access. so go ahead and download it naaaoooo
good luck bud
Hi:
I've spent a couple weeks trying to find a solid solution to my issue, and haven't quite gotten it. I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction, thank you.
- I have a t999/ t-mobile GS3. I flashed the so-called "leaked OTA 4.1 upgrade" UVDLI3 to it, and I'm not really happy with it.
- I'd like to go to a rooted phone, so I can install AOKP or similar. So I'd like to either root the existing UVDLI3, or downgrade to 4.0.4 so I can use the root script originated on XDA.
- I use a Macintosh computer. I can get access to a PC, but it's a bit dicey if I have to install software and drivers on it. Possible, but not preferable.
Any recommendations to get either rooted or back to 4.0.4? Thank you all very much.
There's an official jellybean release for T-Mobile better than the leak. Not sure what your asking but there's a root66 stock jellybean file you can Odin that has root already.

Thanks -- my biggest stumbling block is Odin, which is PC only, but the Root66 page suggests maybe mobile Odin would do it. I'll give that a try.

You need to be rooted in order to use mobile odin
Mobile Odin is a mac users savior!
Jus be careful to never lose root once you've got it.
If you haven't already, I would seriously recommend you get the Pro version for its EverRoot option.

So I tried Mobile Odin, and realized that requires that I be rooted already (thanks also j_smith305). So it's either find a way to root UVDLI3, or downgrade to 4.0.4 and root that. Back to my original issue, I think.
You can install virtual machine on your mac and then install windows on it. You will have odin working on your mac without buying new pc. For free vm just make small research in google. Also you can try using some exe emulator. I think Wine is available for mac. Or make research if there is odin or something like odin for linux. If there is then download some linux (I recommend ubuntu) and install it on usb drive.

I've tried using odin on a virtual machine but I've had problems installing the samsung drivers on it. You can try doing it on bootcamp but I don't know if that'll work since I haven't tried it. I have a mac but I also have a PC so I do all my rooting and stuff on there. If you have no success on a mac, then your only option might be to just use windows if you can.

So you installed newest FrostyJB? My suggestion is go back to odin and flash root66 4.1.1. You will get less problems with the rom and better battery life. People actualy reported that rom works better if you flash stock 4.1 before.
I'm just saying that so you can avoid some problems related to that and asking unnecessary questions in Frosty thread.

Thanks -- we'll see how it goes. Now that I have the thing rooted and OMP working, it's really easy to switch the ROM up. So far Frosty has worked well, and Root66 looks good too. I'd really like a good AOKP ROM to try out as well. Hope to find one that's reasonably stable.
Hi there,
Not sure if anyone can help me out here, but I have been looking all day for a thread which I used probably back in october to root my s3, it doesn't use ODIN, and it doesn't trip counter, I think the method involve me transferring some file which gave me temporary root and add some other file to finish the root process. Now i'm trying to help my sister to root her s3, and would like to use the same method because I don't have a PC to use ODIN.
J
If you have a Linux box or Mac you can use heimdall which is a terminal version of Odin.
On the other hand, I know the root method you are talking about but I can't find it.
