Do you think if I flash a new rom it will fix up everything?
I don't have a recovery installed but I do have my phone rooted...
The feeling of hopelessness haha..

flash any rom you want then, but if yours is a stock rom, you probably want a stock odex rom, and you can save your data by just wiping system, cache, and dalvik cache..
but you need a recovery..
on my signature I have stock odex roms without root, if you want root, just flash SU from chainfire then.
I have both stock roms for 4.3 and 4.4.2
I also just made a rom for tethering... goto second post.. it is a stock rom also..
this is the link to my thread if you want... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51813449

Hey there mdiaz.. anyone....
I have a serious problem... akin to the OP
I was rooting away my Note 3 and got greedy. The last step was the stupid" make my Note 3 look like a S5 crap".... I deleted my SecSettings ODEX per the instructions... The apk provided failed and now My own APK without the ODEX won't work. Of course I foolishy dumped that file versus renaming etc....
I've got an odex from someone here... but I doubt I can do anything now because It's been factory reset and I have no root, no access to settings and I can't get the files into the Android system to even see if they will work. I can't set "Unkownn Sources" I can't then install towelroot.... and then sneak my files in to see if it all works.
I assume my only option is a full stock recovery from a rom. I'm no noob but the listing you show is HUGE and I have no IDEA what to get from your site.
Could I make a folder on the SD card that android would use? LIke mimic the system folder... Oh I don't know... Ugh. I don't mind recovery to stock... But I just don't know the exat file to use with Odin.
Tmobile on 4.4.2
I've got a tomobile Tmobile Galaxy Note 3 on 4.4.2, Just factory reset... A lot of the bloat is gone still..... If I could just get the settings to work I would be fine....
If I need to redo the whole thing to stock ROM like out of box.... Can you directly me simply to just what I need from your list? As I have no clue... I have odin... and have been rooting al weekend so I'm not a stranger to this process. Your list is just so impressive and daunting.
Is there a way for me to get this secsettings.odex file I have now into the android system... can I sneak in and hack sideloading. So I can then towelroot? Please help as It seems My situation is similar to the OP and I'm SUPER lost.....

Are you trying to preserve knox 0x0 ?
If not then use cf autoroot through odin, then you'll have root permission again and can replace the files.

Well for starters everyone... I'm taking a 5 to slap myself into straightness after LAWLIn at your username... KICKA$$!!! I read it as a statement and I was Like, Uh oh! Secondly... Thanks for the reply...
Ok I did several things wrong to get here that DAMNIT! I know better too! But I am actually well past your suggestions based upon further foolishness I must admit. I would have loved to have tried your method!
But anywho... I ended up finding a couple of Tmobile ROM's and I've managed to get one installed... and rooted again. Problem is. Now T-mobile wants to OTA me... and it downloads fine. install fails though
I think I'M ok for having a device... but not OK for OTA.... I went to this guys website and cannot figure out the right file to nab because I don't truly have the grasp I need here. I mean this isn't my Dell Axim x51v here.... (Still going!) What I really want is things back to the way they were before I removed that stupid SecSettings.odex file..... It was looking good!
My Note 3 was running the latest OTA from T-mobile, I had just rooted it and dropped SuperSU. I began eliminating bloatware efficiently and without hiccups. KNOX frozen and unfrozen... Status was and still is Original.
I went to do a system update and T-mobile sends me a 188MB file that downlaods fine... sends me to recovery( I am betting that is what is wrong here) and the phone reboots without really looking like it is doing much in the progress bar and then POOF it reboots.... comes up to run and tell me it is reverting because the update failed.
That pretty much tells me I have the wrong recovery/rom on now kind of.... or is my root affecting this OTA? Help? Move topic?

yup, the ota needs the stock recovery to update, are you on a NE6, NF1 or NF4 rom (build number) {About Device} and what Baseband? I'd recommend manually updating with pc odin up to NF4 (Latest) and either run Stock Deodex NF4 jovvy build and debloat as you wish, or keep your eye on the Tweaked 3.0 rom thread as the NF4 version will be dropping very soon. (I'd recommend Tweaked as it offers choices such as S5 settings UI etc and it's easy to switch between mods and stock)

OK... I learned a lot more last night... and ALL IS WELL AGAIN!!!
First, I never flashed anything custom.... I've only been working with official releases and Odin. After the SecSettings.odex debacle I actually ended up putting on NE6 ( TOWELROOT CAPABLE) and in the end I learned that this is what I must have had to begin with. I didn't trust it so I tried the NF4 last night with Odin and found I could not use towelroot. Nor could I use it with NF1.
This led me to put in NE6 again from mdiaz here, Towelroot, Gut the bloat and I'm pretty much exactly where I was( which is what I wanted) before the Secsettings mistake.
But.... I fell in love with the NF4 Stock.... Loving the DUAL DOWNLOAD S5 speed feature! and some of the other bells and whistles.... very nice updates... and it seemed faster than NE6 stock.... At least as fast in TouchWizUI as the NE6 bloat removed...
I am looking for efficiency in my device. But I am one of the few who appreciate more that it is a vehicle for apps so I try to balance performance with visual splendour as much as possible. I'm opting for Nova launcher once I get this right because it just works!
What drew me in this round of roots was the battery life on NE6.... with all the stock bloat it drains so fast! So I loved the change.... I was on the tail end of rooting 2 Galaxy tabs... and a Dell Streak. Boy do they last a lot longer and perform better. Everyone wins...
I'm so thankful you popped on... I'm quite savvy and usually I just need either a push, nudge or a hand holding.... Thanks for chiming in!
I am very much looking forward to a NF4 Rom I can root, Gut tweak and be pleased with.... I dont' like to ROM hop I just want something lean, battery friendly, usable and stable.
I'll be looking out...
TO try and close this thread on the topic of the OP.... I would recomend to the readers that if you attempt these steps to make your NOTE 3 look like an S5.... and go fooling with the SecSettings.APK and accompanying odex...
BACK UP YOUR STUFF! and if a guide says to simply DELETE an odex file.... Take it from me.... Don't do it! rename it and back it up first and make sure you can get it back in place.... I did learn a lot during this... but it cost me too much in time... aggravation. I missed out on a day trip with the family because of it....got all kinds of grumpy cuz I mess up my phone!!!
So in closing... Thanks for the replies and the guidance!

Don't know where you are sitting as far as ROM and root, but if you are on NE6 still and have root access, I have put up a pretty hearty guide that can get you to NF4 with root. Check it out here.

[Q] Unlocking my SGH-T999 with Jellybean 4.1 Update

Hey all,
I have NEVER tried to unlock or root a phone before, but I have the desire to try it now.
I have the T-mobile SGH-T999 with the new Android Jellybean 4.1.1 (Build Number JRO0L.T999UVDLJA)
I want to try to root my phone, but I would like to keep as much of the the new update (Jellybean) as possible instead of reverting to ICS. What I'm wondering is, what should I do to root the phone, and what programs are preffered, etc. Also, I was wondering how to back up my current build in case I want to set it back to default in case of warranty issues that I had to return it.
I am sure others have asked... maybe this would be a good sticky, I don't know... but I am hoping someone will take the time to point me in the right direction.
I need to know
a.) What I need to backup pre-root
b.) What software is best to root
c.) Any special instructions for rooting that may be specific for this build or this phone
d.) How to un-root in case I need to return the phone.
Any help would be appreciated, and apologies in advance if this is a repeated question. I just figured I'd ask because of the new update.
Thanks!

I would think the easiest is to use the root injected rom from this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687
It is what I did and I have full root access and stock rom with no counter tripped. Backup preroot will be difficult but as long as everything is set up with google, you should be able to get all of your contacts back but not settings. Once rooted, you can use titanium backup. Great program. If you want to unroot you can use the same method you used to root but you can just odin back to the original rom again. If you like my response please click on Thanks.
Thanks!
I took a look at the thread you sent me, and have contacted the original member to get step by steps, just to make sure I dont screw it up.
Hopefully it will work as desired.

The person who wrote the thread may or may not have time to give a more detailed run-through.
I used that thread to root my phone - honestly, all the instructions have already been given in it. I have never done anything like this and I just followed the instructions as given - the process is covered completely. I'm not sure what more they could tell you.
Not trying to be rude. Just understand that they have already provided a full guide and it might be more considerate to ask questions to the open forum about any step that is troubling you - that way anyone who has free time can answer.

Thanks for that, I guess I just wanted to make sure I wasn't leaving anything to chance. Since the phone is a pretty penny, I didn't want to be screwed if I tried to root and somehow screwed up the phone.
I'll see if he responds in the next few days, if not, I'll give it a go.
thanks again!

It's so easy, you'd be hard pressed to screw it up.
Step 1): Download the Samsung USB Drivers from their site
Step 2): Download the pre-rooted stock firmware from the previously listed link here at xda(make sure you get the 4.1 with root)
Step 3): Download ODIN
Step 4): Plug phone into PC and launch ODIN
Step 5): Click "PDA" and then browse to the firmware you downloaded
Step 6): Hit Flash.
Step 7): Wait, wait some more. Wait more.
Step 8): Watch phone reboot and sweat manically as its your first time and you think you've bricked your phone.
Step 9): Tinker like a madman when your phone comes back and you see its rooted.
Step 10 through ifiniti): Continue to tinker, eventually find rom manager and aftermarket roms. some good, some bad.
PM me if you want and I can walk you through it via IM or something. I can even throw you my rom, which is essentially stock with all the tmobile BS removed.
Awesome (Easy) walkthrough

And then, if I need to send it back, I'd have to unroot the phone too, so I wanted to make sure I saved whatever I needed to. As for using yoru version without the bloatware, the bloatware doesn't bother me, since I use the Visual Voicemail, and the My Account features to manage the account for my wife and I. I just want to make sure I'm injecting the right stuff.

[Q] Rooting and ROM

Hello, this is the first time posting on this forum and relatively new on the android platform after jumping ship from blackberry. So, i have afew questions i hope you guys can help me with.
1. I heard/read alot regarding rooting to bring out the full potential of an android(s4) phone. What is the full advantage of rooting my phone? How does granting administrative access affect my phone performance?
2. I often see the jargon of bloatware on this forum, what does it exactly mean?
3. What is the function of ROM?
Sorry if these qns are repeated, please direct me to the answer if it is already present in the forum. thanks

Rooting your phone gives you access to do anything you want ie (Apps 2 sd) that the phone dosent permit you to do.
A ROM is just a different feel, and its a faster alternative in upgrading your android ios. (S4 has touchwiz, can change it to Htc Sense)
Bloatware is a bunch of unnecessary apps that Carriers know youll never use but have it just cause. Its annoying and it takes up space. Rooting allows you to delete these apps, cause if its not you wont be able to remove it.
I hope this helped, ask again if you have any more questions.

I was wondering if there is a sort of rooting guide for dummies out there. I want to root my phone to get rid of some of the bloatware that I will never use, and also to delete the annoying start up and shut down sounds. Other than that, I'm happy with Touchwiz so far, but I suppose adding custom themes would be fun.
I rooted my last phone (Samsung Vibrant) over 2yrs ago and don't remember how I did it. I know I installed a custom ROM, but don't remember how to do that either. I remember following a really good guide with pictures and step by step instructions though. It's early days yet with the S4, but I really hope someone will do the same kind of guide because it's very helpful for those of us who like to customize but don't have the time or knowledge to seriously get into it. When I look at some of the threads on rooting it just seems like a foreign language to me!

Try the motochopper method - the guide is pretty simple and self explanatory however if you're on latest kernel then rooting is a no go as of now

Thanks I looked at that and it seems straightforward, but I'm concerned about what to do after the actual root. Things like how to back the phone up in case I mess it up, how to delete things, how to add things. Also I find a lot of the terminology confusing... not quite sure what all the acronyms stand for either, like ODIN or CWM, or what each thing does exactly. This is the kind of thread which would be totally useful: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028 (this one is for the Vibrant though, so I think a lot of it would be different on a different device?)
As far as the kernel... as far as I know nothing has been updated. I got the phone on the first day it came out so I'm assuming it doesn't have the latest kernel. How would you find out? Not even sure what the kernel is or what it does :\ I would like to find out though!
^^^then you might be on an earlier kernel version anyway trying to root by motochopper method won't brick your device even if it doesn't go successful so no worries.
ODIN is the same software that service centres use to revive your bricked device - as a matter of fact with Samsung drivers, a usb cable and stock rom downloaded from online sources like sammobile, you can revert almost any instances of soft brick. Simply saying ODIN will flash back factory/stock rom anfd make your device as it was when you bought it. And yeah flashing via ODIN and all are more or less same procedure for all Samsung devices
Cwm is a custom recovery. If you don't know what recovery means it might be worth googling for better understanding the concept as even my knowledge is limited and my explanations might fall short of your expectations

with regards to rooting my s4 which is running on 4.2.2 jellybean, does motochopper actually brick my phone? In addition, can i root my phone to remove the bloatwares and afterwhich, unroot my phone again, with all the bloatwares already permanently removed? Is it possible to download the full list of softwares of the s4 online such that if i accidentally remove an important software, i will be able to restore it. As I am someone who is not into very much customization and over-clocking, i believe i dont need my phone rooted for custom ROM right? I can use stock ROM when my phone is unrooted and clear of bloatware?

Steps
#1. Locate GS4 box, place phone inside box.
#2. Return to store and get iPhone.
Serious tho. Best thing you can do is READ. SEARCH and READ. SEARCH and READ.
If you are unsure about something, READ again. Most questions have already been asked and answered.
If you find yourself lost......SEARCH and READ. Believe me this is this most useful advice you will ever get here.
Stuff is so easy now compared to when android 1st started. I remember rooting my G1 on a terminal prompt and installing recovery with wicked long commands. Now everything is automated and the hardest (NOT) part is reading the step by step instructions provided on almost every mod and tweak.
Welcome and goodluck !

All Things Boost Galaxy S III

1. Since the Galaxy S III became available as a Boost variant, there’s been an increasing amount of questions, issues, and requests for builds. I have collaborated with the powers that be, and it was determined that it might be a good idea to start a Boost only thread. This thread is dedicated to anything and everything Boost Galaxy S III related.
2. I will update and bump and sticky and edit and whatever else needs to be done the best that I can, but it is open and available to all. This is YOUR thread, just as much as it is mine. I encourage folks to ask questions, post relevant links, tutorials, helpful hints, and anything else they come across while tinkering with their new phone that may help others related to the Boost S3.
3. First and foremost, as always is the disclaimer. We are all responsible for our own actions. I am not responsible for what you do to your phone, so please do not flame me or anyone else in this thread if you do something that potentially fries your device.
4. If you post a link to something flashable, either through Odin, CWM, Heimdall, TWRP, etc, please test it on your own phone first or have someone test it before you do so. If it works, and will benefit someone, feel free to include it. I will most likely PM the dev and ask to put it in the OP.
5. And finally, please be courteous and respectful. We are all here to learn from one another, and do not need sarcasm, unkindness, flaming, or disrespect, of any kind. Thank you and enjoy.
Stock Unrooted OTA Odin Tar
This is the official, stock, right out of the box, Boost MD7. This will unroot your device, and take everything back to the way it was when you got it. Please thank the OP, Smith058, over at AF (link to OP at the bottom), since he was so gracious to let me post it here, and to let me use it to cook up something good for you folks More to come on that one! The only issue I’ve noticed on this build is there’s no boot up sound. But it flashed modem, stock recovery, put the device status back to “normal” and made the “custom” in Odin mode back to “official.” This should come in handy if you need to send it back for repair, or just want to start anew. The coming zip (once it’s uploaded) has working sound.

My phone is running a rooted version of the stock MG2 ROM. While it has the Boost startup splash "4G" screen, I don't think there ever was a sound component.
Also - If I recall correctly, some custom ROMs labelled as compatible with the Sprint Galaxy S3 will cause us to LOSE 4G SERVICE, because they do not have the Boost-specific APN settings in them, and changing APN settings on Jellybean ROMs is (apparently) not possible as it was on Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs. So beware, and make sure that any ROMs that you want to flash will not kill your 4G!

I think it was an issue with the Tar, because when I built the flashable zips, they not only had the Boost animation, but the sound component as well. And I have seen around that some Sprint ROMs will cause issues with 4g. I know that it is possible to get into change the "guts" of your phone if you have your MSL by with JB Touchwiz ROMs by dialing ##3282# from your phone's dialer. However, for some reason, with the zip I just built, it's not cooperating. I'm going to swap out secphone.apk later today, from another stock build, and see if that fixes the issue. But thanks for the heads up. That's what this thread is all about.

If you flashed the rooted one, chances are it won't let you update, but give it a try. Additionally, if you have custom recovery, which you had to in order to flash the zip, it most likely won't let you update it either. It's an Android Software update, not a firmware. I would try it, and I'm sure it will fail, but at least you won't get prompted anymore for software updates But yes, it is safe to try.

jdsingle76 is correct. It won't hurt anything, it just won't work. If you accept the update, your phone will reboot into recovery, process for a few seconds, and fail with an error. However in my experience, that will not stop the software update prompts from re-occurring. If I recall, the best way to stop them was to use something like Titanium Backup and freeze something having to do with 'OTACERTS'. It's been a while, so my info may be out-of-date on that front.
can someone please reupload the stock SPH-L710 odin tar file else where before I brick my phone accidentally, its not letting me use recovery. The root method i used did not work correctly, now my phone is now working properly and i just want to get back to stock to try a different method for rooting, i need this odin file please!

Good to see ya bro. Thanks for throwing that up there. Just noticed the dropbox link was broken for too much traffic. I have the MG2 tar from Kies as well. This weekend if I get time I'll throw both of them in AFH and/or dev-host. Hope all's well, thanks for helping out!

What file from this op are you referring to? But to answer your question, yes, you can flash ant sprint file to the boost variant, and vice versa, you just might have to change apn, mmsc, stuff like that, to get mms to work.

I have not gotten my hands on a 4.3 Odin tar yet. If you do remember it'll have Knox, and I think Knox is here to stay. Ice heard rumors about Kit Kat for this phone but nothing's come out yet. Thanks for the support!

Don't fret. .. If kitkat comes out there will definitely be a custom rom made with it that you will be able to flash. With root you will have many more options than you ever will with stock.

Am I safe to update to Kitkat?

I Got this phone in the mail off Ebay today. And within the first hour I updated it to 4.3 and rooted it. And now I'm getting another OTA update notification. I'm not new to rooting and stuff but I am new to Samsung. So I'm a little worried if I should do the update or not. I don't wanna get stuck in a bootloop or anything.
I'm rooted
I'm running 4.3
I have Clockwork flashed
Rom is stock
All I'd like to know is if I am safe to update? I heard you are and then I've heard you're not.
not sure but if you can unroot you can allways re root in 4.4
If no one else has done so yet, ive got a modded ota that should allow you to flash via cwm or twrp, and should preserve root.
Its uploading now.

Alright thanks! let me know when it's up. And are you from Huntsville Alabama too?
Ok, here is the modded OTA!
It should allow you to flash via TWRP or CWM recoveries, and it should also preserve root!
You will still need to be full stock for it to work as it still will go through its checks before flashing. It is not recommended to remove these checks because it could cause problems when patching files. Especially if the files being patched have been modded.
THIS IS UNTESTED! I do not have a working device at the moment, (dont have the I747 anyway), so I am unable to test on my own before releasing. I do not foresee any problems, but there just is no way to be positive until its been tried. If there is an issue, it should still just fail before the flash like it always has been supposed to do.
Please post back ASAP after trying this out so we know if it is working or not.

I would test it but I just can't. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't break anything. But I haven't had this phone for 24 hours yet, I just bought it and it's the only one I got. I even paid my bill today too. And I'm looking for another job and you have to have a phone for that lol. Post it up on the forum and let someone who knows more than I do test it because I'm just gonna have to wuss out on this one. I appreciate it though!:good::good:
No sweat. I completely understand! I may go ahead and make a thread for it, but was hoping to verify it works first. Ill post it in the other ota thread for now.
And yes, I am close to Huntsville. Good luck on your job hunt!

Going from CM11 To Stock? (Model: Sghi747)

Hey guys, I am new to this forum here but before anyone flames me, I did read the faqs and tried to uninstall from there but it did not work out. Apparently I dont think you can get rid of CM11 since you cant install any stock firmware older than it? Before I installed CM11, I was on jellybean. I had tried to find the latest kitkat update for the s3 (att) and there is no file of it found online (tried sammobile). When I tried flashing an older firmware with ODIN, it just fails at "NAND!". Any help would be appreciated. I am COMPELETELY new at this so specific directions would be appreciated!
I really do love cyanogenmod but there are simply too many glitches and not enough guidance on how to fix em. I am, however, currently using it on my HP touchpad, if anyone remembers what it is . Maybe ill go back to using it in the future.
thanks!
Your rom (cm) has nothing to do with what firmware you can or cannot flash. Once you have updated to 4.3 firmware or newer, you can only flash the same or newer firmware in odin from now on. (Regardless of firmware you can still flash older roms btw)
Using terminal emulator, enter this to find your current firmware build:
getprop ro.bootloader
I suspect you are on a 4.3 build. So odin flash that same firmware. You can find it in these forums. After that you can get the ota to update fully to kk.
There are other methods of updating. Just check the General section. (enewman17 has a few threads that will help)
Note: anytime you go between touchwiz and non touchwiz roms, you will have to factory reset or it'll hang at boot.

I am on "I747UCUEMJB"
and i am not sure what build i am on but according to my "build number"this is what it says: "cm_d2att-userbug 4.4.2 KOT49H"
The main issue is, I cannot find 4.3 update anywhere on the internet
The MJB is your current firmware/bootloader build/version.
The build number displayed in settings only represents the rom, which is often different, and doesnt really matter to much.

i have no idea what MJB means (i google'd it) and i just found out what my bootloader version is via download mode (its at the very bottom) and i have version 2.0?
ok downloading the giant file now. will report details. just follow instructions in the first link?
[sorry, like i said, im a noob so i really apologize for the lack of terms here]
MJB is just short for I747UCUEMJB. Sorry if I confused you. And the S/W revision being 2.0 is what Odin uses to know what firmware it is allowed to flash. In this case 2.0 tells odin it can flash the MJB firmware, or anything newer.
And yes, follow the instructions he posted and you should be fine.
Oh, and if you did not run the getprop command I posted before, please do so before flashing....just to be on the safe side. If it returns I747UCUEMJB, you are good to go. If it returns anything else, let me know before flashing.

Cool! Got it. I think that was my main problem. I could only find 4.0 (or 4.1) and have been trying to use that on ODIN. Perhaps that was the main issue....
Oh already ran it and got "I747UCUEMJB", sorry if didnt say it properly.
Really appreciate the help! Ive at this for days and no solutions. Sometimes the hacking/custom firmware isnt for everybody
Ill update what happens. Download is taking forever.
EDIT: BTW, for the first link, which poster am I gonna have to follow? im assuming "garbage guy"?
I though you did run the command already, but just wanted to be certain is all. For some reason AT&T stopped releasing their firmware, which has been causing all kinds of problems for people.
Anyway, it sounds like you are good to go! Good luck!
Oh, and if the firmware you're downloading is a .zip or .7z file, make sure you extract it first. Odin only flashes .tar and .tar.md5 files.

Awesome!
really glad to hear that! The only thing I can think of thst you might want to do next is backing up your nv data. The following is a copy/past from a post I made a few min ago... root is required to fo this btw, just so you know.
(Since you are looking to update though, I recommend waiting till you have updated before rooting and running this backup)
It's a super simple procedure and will create an on device backup of your nv data. The backup will be stored on a couple of partitions we never touch, not even with firmware flashes. This essentially makes it a permanent backup. The cool thing about it is every time you reboot, the system checks for any corruption, and if detected, it will automatically restore from this backup. So if it were to ever happen, you probably wouldn't ever even notice it!
Install the Terminal Emulator from the play store. Open and enter this:
su
reboot nvbackup
Thats it! Device will reboot and create your backup. This should prevent you from ever suffering from a lost IMEI!

That has been released, but OTA's are generally rolled out in stages over several weeks. Usually done by region. So it msy not have started in your area just yet.
Two alternatives you can try though, install kies on your computer and update through that. Or there are a couple if threads in the General section that provide the ota for download.
Enewman17 has a few threads helping folks to update so I recommend checking them out as well.
Ive heard that some people have gone to best buy and they were able to initiate the update there. I dont know much more about this though.

Thank you! I will look into this. I just figured for some reason...I would have some data left from cyanogenmod, if that makes sense. In other words, i want my phone to be as fresh as possible. I only ask this because when I had CM, i accidentally made a backup of it through rom manager (or clockwork) and I am not sure if its in my partition somewhere.

Factory resetting with stock recovery installed wipes all data except the external sdcard. I am so sorry I should've mentioned this before. I was thinking you had already done one at some point and didn't have anything left to worry about. Still, I should have asked and I do apologize for that. Hopefully if it was really important it was saved to the external sdcard....

I suggest trying the third one by bkong first. He posted a pure OTA file you can try to update with.
The first option is a recovery flashable firmware, but does not include the /system (ROM) portion. To fully update using this you'll flash the firmware per his instructions and then go to his development thread for the stock rom. It is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788357
The second option is the OTA file, but it has been slightly modified to skip certain file checks. If the original OTA doesnt work, theres a good chance this will. (Since you are full stock now either one should flash without issue).
Hope those help! I recommend doing a bit of reading about each one (at least the OP and last few pages) and start with whichever you are most comfortable with.
Or, you could always use that most valuable tool, patience, and wait for the OTA to roll out for your area.
Good luck!

Its fine, I wasnt planning using it or anything, I just wanted to get rid of it since I have no use for it, no need to apologize. , I was fully aware that I would lose all files, other than SD ext drive. I just wanted to make sure that all files are in the right place and none of the unnecessary files are taking up space (e.g. files from cyanogenmod)
As for the update, I talked to a samsung representative and they said one can go to Best Buy and get it updated there through a technician, so Ill try that later since I am close to it ATM. If it back fires, Ill try your suggestions.
I really do appreciate for the help , I have been completely lost for days but it turns out I was just using the wrong firmware. Thanks for pointing it out. Good karma is coming your way . Hopefully one day, I will be here again and trying out a new custom firmware.
Glad I could help!
If I remember right, someone who mentioned the best buy thing had said at the time that the first store they went to did not have the update yet. But I think they found another in their area did. So if they say its up to date and cant help, you might find another store close by can. (If there is one of course!)
Just fyi so you're not too surprised if that happens.
