Hello xda guyz
I want to flash ICS kernel on my Xperia arc s using cwm, cause m not having access to my PC.
Is there anyone who know how to do this?
Some members over here said it can be done and some said it can't be. So m posting this in Q&A section.
I tried using Samsung devices method but i get md5 sum mismatch error (advance restore boot guide). Searched on Google too but no help.
I know there is some problem with boot partition on arc s, don't know exactly cause m not an android expert. So if there is any possible way, please mention it over here.
TIA
(hope someone will bring it)
Xperia phones do not have the ability to flash kernel from Recovery due to partition limitations. For our phones, only way to install kernel is with the help of a PC and fastboot.

Hi all!
searching for recovery for my arc S I installed rom manager. sliding devices searching for SE arc S started installation for samung or something.
now rom manager says 'im on cwm 4.0.1.5 but it isnt for arc!
Ive no rebooted in recovery to not brick my phone but now i need some help to solve this problem...
please...
EDIT: can i use this pack from here :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1299729 to flash recovery? its for "Arc"
Please help me...
I think that rom manager still have no support for xperia arc,and you cannot flash recovery that way.
You need to unlock your bootloader first, then to follow tutorial from your link.
if you need more help, just ask
thanks Chobby
Did it work then? Having problems myself with the Arc S :/
Hey @ all
i'm a new SE Arc S user and saw my friend using a custom rom on his galaxy s so i decided to give it a try myself ^^
reading the FAQ i got to the thread Read BEFORE flashing!!
it says before flashing i got to test if i can get into the download mode.
so i tried all three methods but i can't.
then i went through many other threads and saw that it actually works on an arc s.
so my question is how do i do it?
i already rooted my phone and i have installed the android sdk including platform-tools and the adb drivers.
additionally i tried to get into recovery mode using the button combination but it doesn't work as well.
Information to the phone:
Arc S (LT18i)
Android-Version: 2.3.4
Build: 4.0.2.A.0.42
Kernel-Version: 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected]#1
if there are any more questions just ask and i will try my best answering them ^^
hope someone can help me
stiil
You have to unlock your bootloader, push a kernel via adb, and install a custom ROM via CWM recovery.

EDIT:
Your guide is for the Samsung Captivate.
Start here.
Thx for your replay.
The guide you linked in your post is for an arc.
Does it work on my arc s too?
Of course, I own the Arc S too and about 95 % of the kernel/ROMs/MODs/themes/etc. works for our device too.
heey
i just unlocked my bootloader.
now i would like to back up everything so that i can switch back to the actual state of the phone.
but recovery is only described with changing the kernel.
is there a different option for a backup?
Flash this on stock kernel, go in recovery and take a backup.
Then you can push kernels, flash custom ROMs, etc.
that means if i make a backup using cwm i bavk up the kernel too?
No, you just push kernels via adb, but you can when ever you want push the stock kernel again.

Download Flashtool and ICS (4.1.B.0.587) or GB 4.0.2.A.0.62 Generic firmware, which is a FTF file, and flash it in. Will install fully stock firmware on your phone.
Hey guys I recently bought the Gio and I rooted it and now I want to do custom ROMS on it but I'm a little confused. In the past I have only had HTC phones which was simple to flash a custom ROM just place the .zip in the sd card root, flash and done! But now flashing a Gio ROM is something completely new to me could anybody explain why it is different and why you are have to flash firmware and such?
Sorry if this has already been asked I searched and couldn't find anything related to my question.
Welcome to the gio family.
For your questions, read these blog entries for galaxy gio, they explain the procedures in this blog very well.
You can flash firmwares via zip on sd if you have Clockwork Mod Recovery (cwm) installed instead of stock recovery. Look here.
And of course, feel free to ask any remaining questions after that.
Thanks that helped me I have the S5660M and majority of things are only made for the S5660 is there a way to convert it to the S5660M? also you mention cwm I do have it but i cant install the recovery because it does not detect my phone it just list a bunch of other phones do you know how I can get cwm I remember seeing a thread about it im pretty sure but I doubt its any use to the S5660M...
EDIT: Sorry I missed your CWM link at the end will it work with the S5660M ?
Thanks for your help
I do not know if it will work with the m model, best ask in the corresponding thread. There are some other m users around here, you could also use the search function with "s5660M" or similar.
Yes it will work for the m phone. I'm currently using it and it works great. Let me know if you have any questions about the m model.

Hey guys,
I had an Xperia Play for sometime. I taken the plunge to install a custom rom. I have tried before but I keep failing as my phone gets stuck at the Sony Ericsson logo.
Basically I want to install JJ's HYBRID ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1573547
It says to boot in CWM which I did and do a full wipe and flash. I wipe then install zip file.
I am using 4.0.2.a.0.42 rooted with CWM and bootloader unlocked. I am also using stock kernel. mainly because I dont know how to install doomkernel because I dont know what is fastboot and how to use it because majority of the posts assume you know about this.
Also I want to try to jokawild rom but it tells me to flash to 0.62 baseband. but I cant root it aso how do I install cwm. Am I missing something does doomkernel come with cmw? sorry im a noob
Please help!
thanks in advance
I think DoomKernel comes already pre-rooted
There's a thread somewhere about installing and using fastboot and flashtool. If you can't find it, try Google
First time you use it is nervewracking but as soon as you get the hang of it you'll be able to type the console commands from memory

Unlocked bootloader, right?
Well... I started flashing with the FXP CM based roms. I suppose that this is exactly what you did, but since you didn't tell the steps you followed, I'm gonna write down how I did the first time:
With an FXP CM based rom (eg: FXP CM 10) , the steps, basically are:
- Extract the boot.img (own kernel of the FXP roms) of the .zip and put the .zip in the sdcard
- Flash the kernel in fastboot mode:
( fastboot -i 0xfce flash boot boot.img
fastboot -i 0xfce flash reboot
unplug the usb and start hiting volume controls to enter in CWM)
- Wipe data and cache
- Install the .zip (rom)
- Reboot and enjoy
Hope it works for you.
Aactually I am not. Able to flash kernel image with fastboot.. I mean with flashtool I am not Able to flash kernel image.. flashtool is showing error that my phone is not rooted.. but it actually is..
And suppose if i want to install ROM( jelly sandwich) can u tell me the procedure from the scratch, I ll really appreciate it.. coz I am trying for 2 days with negative result...

I'm noob too, so unfortunately I can't help in the most effective way.
The only apparent difference between our phones (from what I understood from your post) is that I unlocked the bootloader. I read here in XDA that some roms just need this while others not.
"can u tell me the procedure from the scratch, I ll really appreciate it" - You mean unlock the BL?
It's easy, but may void the warranty... Go here: http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
(Note: In my case I didn't install the sdk, but I just can't find the tutorial that I followed to unlock the BL... Anyway, the tutorial that I've used was in portuguese... Not much help for you I guess
Note2: In the middle of the process, you'll have to inform your IMEI in the sony website... Use just the first 14 digits).
There is enough information in the guides and stickys to help with most things, People just need to read it.

When I want to know sth, I search and then I will have more than I wanted.
1. unlock the boot loader
2. Download a custom kernel for your current version of android ie: GB/ICS i suggest DoomLord.
3.Put the kernel ( .img ) into the same folder as you have fastboot/adb
4. Power the phone into fastboot: Power down your phone. Press and hold the menu button then plug in your usb cable (the light on the side will be blue)
open a CMD window in the same folder as fastboot/adb and type the commant:
fastboot flash boot NAME OF FILE.img
push enter.
Once the install is complete (a couple of second) you will have root and custom recovery.
Make sure your phone version is rootable
There are guides available in the General section, I suggest you read them if this is your first root.
Good Luck.
Thanks guys I appreciate your help.. I ll try
