[Q] Cloud Print Services (SOLVED) - G Pad 8.3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Anyone got any ideas as to why the Cloud Print (and HP Print services) do not seem to be installed under the Print option...? I thought that these were part of what KitKat offered, unless removed by LG...?
Having got a Canon cloud capable printer I would expected to have been able to add it easily, like I can with my Nexus tablet.
Thanks
EDIT: Solution....
Found the Cloud Print Service plugin....
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.cloudprint
The HP one (not needed by me)...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hp.android.printservice

HP Print Service Plugin didn't work on my G Pad and also conflicted Google's Cloud Print, after removing HP plugin Cloud Print started working. Printing section on my G Pad was empty as well after upgrade, expected to see the Cloud Print there as default.

I agree. Considering how much LG have pushed their front end to enhance the Android experience I am not sure if the new user to that OS would have been aware of how to find a print service and install it, over that of it just being there.
Unless I missed it there is no mention of how to do this in the manual either.
Installing the Cloud printer plugin worked fine for me and now my Canon printer works a treat with the tablet.

JetCet; any using it (TP2 printing)

Just noticed my T-Mo TP2 came with JetCet installed. I assume it's to allow printing via various methods.
Has anyone ever used the program? I do have a WiFi enabled printer... but doing Google searches - seems JetCet is Bluetooth only ??????
i used it earlier, worked fine, but would only print certain things. I wanted to print from Internet explorer.
Im using it on WIFI
Jetcet
I actually tried using it today, I sucessfully printed to a networked printer at work. The drivers are not there for a huge number of printers but the generic does work although not as well as I had hoped. Had trouble printing multiple pages, so for small jobs it is fine but for larger documents you are btter off moving them to a full size computer and printing them from there.
Isn't Jetcet for PowerPoint presentations? I have it but thats all I can do. On my Touch HD I had Jetcet 5 which was a print program and it worked on my wireless HP printer.
I think I have a different version of the TMO TP2 mine didn't come with my faves and seems to be missing a couple of programs.
I tested it with my Samsung newtwork printer and it worked using Epson drivers, as there are no Samsung ones. Just did a test page so don't know how well it works in all situations.
Was pretty impressed it worked at all.
I have JetCet Presentation on my Tmo TP2. It says that printing requires another program available on their website. Is it installed already or do I have to buy it?

My Faves is turned off by default for some reason... if you go into HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/HTC/Manilla/Manilla://myfaves.page.hidden and set it to Dword=0 it'll come on...

Looks like it's $9.95 on Westtek's website. It was installed on the Touch HD but looks like the TMO Touch Pro 2 doesn't.
Not concerned about not having MyFavs, one less thing I need to disable.
Different versions of the phone come with different software. Some come with Jetcet printing software, some with the Jetcet powerpoint editing/presenting software. There might even be versions with both or none. They should not be confused and you shouldn't assume that the preinstalled software on your phone is the same as all the other phones worldwide. Personally I haven't been able to test the printing software. Haven't even opened the program.

[Q] Built-in Print Support

I've searched and haven't been able to find an answer to this. I have the Note 8 (wifi) and a GS4 (Sprint). Both come pre-installed with the 'HP Print Service Plugin'. In the GS4, if you click on the 'Print' option, in the browser for example, it will find Samsung and HP printers. However, if you do the same thing with the Note, you get the popup warning about how it will only print to Samsung printers. Why does it come pre-installed with the HP plugin if the Note won't even use it? Will this be fixed in an update? I also have an Acer A500 which uses Acer Print which can print to a whole mess of printers. I don't like the vendor lock-in here. I know you can use apps to do this, but then you have to use 'share' and not 'print'. Is it possible on a rooted device to remove the restriction to Samsung only printers so it will work like it does on the GS4? Or to install Acer Print on the Note? Much appreciated.
I have been successful using the Google Cloud Print app. I have used this with Xerox, HP, Brother printers...It works great.
anything that usually comes with the device is *crap* IMHO.
I personally use PrinterShare
Althought its not free... and there is that saying "you get what you paid for"
I can get PrinterShare and Google Cloud Print to work fine, but my point is that they install the HP plugin as a system app on the Note 8 and GS4, but don't let you use it on the Note 8? PrinterShare and Cloud Print work by using the share function which doesn't play nicely with https pages. I just want to know if there is a way to make the Note 8 'Print' function work like it does in the GS4... or the A500 using Acer Print for that matter.

I have a jet-direct enabled HP printer too. But both the HP app and kitkat printer service get stuck searching for the printer.
Did you have to do anything special to get it working?
I do not have any trouble printing from my windows laptop. Finds the printer on the network with no hiccups.
But both my nexus 7 and moto x cannot....
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

I haven't tried it with my phone, but my tablet worked without any issues. It was pretty simple. It scanned my network and just started working after that. If you need me to test anything shoot me a PM. Not sue what could be your issue unless its running on a different port.
Was this ever resolved? I'm having the exact same issue and I'm trying to figure out what to do. I called the manufacturer and they were no help! I have a Note 8 and an S4. Neither will print using the HP pluggin.
I have a photo smart printer that has print direct and jet direct print capabilities.
Home routers may pass through HP printer ports without configuring, but you may need to open some udp ports to get the print services up and running.
I also note old routers had no provisioning for wake up commands on wifi. My printer requires manual wake up before I can print. I installed both hp print apps, one being web print and the other document print. Both work just I will need to upgrade my router so I can print without manually waking up my printer.

Printing Issue

Using a basic (non WiFi) printer which is connected via Google Cloud print doesn't work, the tablet printed from it once and never again, the tablet shows the printer but everything is faded gray (making it non clickable) the printer is an HP Deskjet F4180... Has anyone else run into this issue or might know a fix... Thanks!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
If I am not mistaken with basic cloud print the computer it is attached to needs to be logged into Google ( probably even on the same account as your device).
Cloud print enabled printers should be available whenever they are on and connected to your wifi.

NFC Printing with HP Envy printer -- NOT WORKING, PEASE HELP

I have an HP Envy 7640 printer that is NFC enabled, how do I print directly off my phone to the printer? When I turn the NFC on both and wave the phone over the printer I get the following screen:
What am I missing with this? Am I understandng correctly, I just turn on NFC on both devices and it should connect? If it matters, I do not have a wireless network (router) in my house.
Thanks-Dan

You need to use the HP ePrint app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hp.android.print.
Print with using App
If your printer and mobile phone is connected with same wifi connection then mobile printing is very simple. If you are android device user, then go to play store and download "HP Print Service Plugin" from there. Install this app in your phone enable notifications for this app. Toggle on HP Print Service Plugin and your mobile device is now enabled for mobile printing. Select the item you want to print. Click on print option select your printer and customize paper settings , confirm right printer and tap on printer button for final print. If it doesn't work or you facing any error in this process then use HP Envy 7640 Manual- guideusermanual.com/product-name-envy-7640-e-all-in-one-printer-series-manual&po=243373&lang=English for detail view and other mobile printing techniques.

Switch from WM6.5 to WM10, a big step and a lot of questions

Hi all,
I've been using a HTC HD2 running WM 6.5 since 2009. I'm still happy with it but it becomes more and more obsolete for many things (no 4G, unable to browse "modern" website, no HTML email support etc.). Now i think about purchasing a Lumia 950 for WM 10. However, there're many functions that seems lost or deeply changed since 2009. I need a new phone for professionnal use. I don't need social networks, games or entertainment things (what Android do very well by the way).
1/ I use Outlook 2010 on Windows 7 and i need to sync all my calendar and contacts with no cloud at all for privacy reasons. I have no exchange server. I'd like to do this through Bluetooth as i do it everyday with WM6.5. This seems impossible nowadays! Even between Outlook desktop and Outlook mobile. This is a hudge regression to me. I'm still stuck with my old WM 6.5 mainly because of this. I've heard of a software called Akruto but it works with a USB cable (another regression). Plus, and i can't find any feedback about this software. Is it really cloudless or not... we don't know.
2/ I need to sync many files by keeping the original tree with folders, subfolders etc, with no cloud again, between my desktop and my mobile. And i need this data being crypted in AES in case I'd lose my phone or some people try to access it. For now with my HD2, i use FreeOTFE which crypts and mounts a drive with a letter (i.e : G: ) on the desktop from a file stored in the microSD card inside the phone. After that, i can sync the files with a special software on Windows 7. This software needs a letter to be mounted for working. But again, it seems the MTP protocol has become the standard, and it's not possible to get a letter with it... Another regression.
3/ I need visual notifications when there's a miss call, a voicemail or a new mail without sound pop-up and without having to turn on the smartphone screen . The LED was very useful but i disappeared too. It was replaced by the glance thing which looks interesting. Does it work with the Lumia 950? I've read the glance doesn't exist (or doesn't work well) with AMOLED screen. By the way, can you choose what kind of notification exactly you need? To avoid draining battery for not useful things.
4/ I've been using Tomtom for GPS for 10 years now. And i'm sad to discover it doesn't exist on WM. What good alternative would you recommand? With of course point of interest customing and lansdcape mode switching automatically. Or, would you think the method to make working Androids apps on WM10 would work with a GPS software?
5/ Does Google maps exist on WM10? I don't want any alternative, but the original one for many special reasons.
Thank you very much.

First of all , this is a huge jump you have made!
but you should just jump in a figure it all for yourself, because there isnt any mobile OS out there that can meet your requirements unless you configure it specifically.

Yes i know i need to configure it to avoid the all-cloud forced step. That's why I'm here.
1. there doesn't seem to be any way to sync your calendar and contacts through bluetooth, and i don't think it's possible with usb either, unless using some kind of 3rd party software.
2. windows 10 has build in encryption, i haven't used it yet, so i don't know what kind of encryption it uses. but i think if you copy your files over they will get encrypted. another way might be using interop unlock, which, if i'm right about this, enables you to mount the phone as usb storage and mount it as a folder in windows, but again, i haven't tried this either, so i don't know how this works.
3. as far as i know glance does work on the 950(xl), but you can only choose 5 apps to display their unread count, in addition to showing the time and date.
4/5. there's no google maps, most google apps aren't available for windows phone/10. there is the default maps app, which uses bing maps. this app has basic navigation possibilities.

Thank you. The Interop unlock the USB mass storage seems good news.
Hi,
ad3) I don't own a 950 but glance should work with the 950 (I can't posts links but if you google it or look it up on windowscentral you can find instructions how to set up glance on a 950 (XL) )
ad4/5) Build in maps are OK and also allow offline navigation.
