I have a sasktel E-973 running JB 4.1.2, I am rooted using the framaroot method. I installed FreeGee and busybox and am wondering if I am ready to install CWM through freegee. I have bricked my phone 3 times attempting this... And I want to make sure I won't eff it up again
Edit: Got my phone how I want it. CM 11 is installing and I got CWM for freegee, thanks for the help!

Did you unlock the bootloader before proceeding to install cwm?
Also dont forget to backup your efcs.

Mind telling me how to unlock my bootloader? I have never done that and it's my problem. Is it necessary to backup my efcs if I don't have anything valuable?
You can unlock the bootloader with the FreeGee, also remember to backup the EFS.
To do the EFS bkp follow instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38438579&postcount=1

So just to double check I only need to be rooted to use freegee? It installs CWM itself?

Yes, rooted, install freegee,
and you can choose CWM or TWRP,
I use CWM previously, but now I'm using TWRP, CWM from freegee now isn't CWM Touch anymore.
you need to manually install CWM Touch (or probably I'm doing it wrong)
but now I'm quite satisfied with TWRP

If you have a locked bootloader that will really not work.
Go ahead and try this installer and see if it would work CWM installer for locked bootloader
But there should be no problem on installing it since it is modded to work for locked bootloaders.
my phone is F180K
I rooted it when it was on F180K20o, unlock bootloader with Freegee, and choose CWM to flash.
then I got in CWM to flash a CM11 nightly followed by Gapps.
It looks well but I cant use something like Titaniumbackup which require root. Tried a few root check apps and they said I am not rooted.
Why would that happen and how to fix it pls?

Did You try searching the forum?
Yes I did, but now I installed cwm 6.0.3
Am i missing something here? I am under the impression that the only way to make a nandroid is with a custom recovery installed?
46 views and no replies...helpful
Answer. As far as i see yes you need a custom recovery unless you know how to pull out the current rom and make it into a kdz or other recovery format. Dont ask me how to do it cause i do t know. If u mess up your phone. Kdz s the only thing u have unless u really bricked ur phone
The app "Online Nandroid" coupled with its partner app "Nandroid Manager" works. It's not the same as a nandroid via a custom recovery however. If something goes wrong you'll still have to use a kdz or tot method to get things fixed but once you're up and running again these apps will restore your entire system. I can confirm it works as I have used it.

No, it's stock B13 that was flashed to rooted stock B13, then XPOSED framework installed by Flashfire v .24. This is verizon. There is no custom recovery option, nor is there an unlocked bootloader. You said, "If something goes wrong you'll still have to use a kdz or tot method to get things fixed but once you're up and running again these apps will restore your entire system. By "entire system", do you mean you can flash your backup over the stock unrooted KDZ?

No. You have to have root first. Then you can restore everything as you had it.
I have Xperia z1 compact running stock non-rooted 14.6.A.1.236 rom. My bootloader is locked. I want to be able to install custom roms. What's the best way to root, unlock bl and install custom recovery? I've been searching forum for past few days but most of the download links redirect to d-h.st. and that breaks the chain of needed files.
Also i never used flashtool and i don't know should i use Sony flashtool or "original" one

I don't think so. Just need adb...
I guess I don't have to open a new thread for this: I've been reading a lot about this recently and trying to get my thoughts straight about this:
I found PhilZ Dual Recovery (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2647480) which works with locked bootloader. Some people wrote there they installed the recovery on 5.0.2, so it seems I have to downgrade first (I'm on 5.1.1), even though it doesn't say that in the manual..? - if you can't answer that I'll ask that later then in the linked thread.
Next thing: I rooted with Kingroot, but want to switch to SuperSU - cant switch because theres a problem with the binary, so I have to flash it anyway through custom recovery.
Can I now root with Kingroot, install PhilZ Dualrecovery and when it boots into Recovery Mode, can I just flash the SuperSu.zip?
OR would I need to boot normally first after custom recovery install, then uninstall Kingroot, to unroot, and THEN flash SuperSU in Recovery?
Ive been using root for years but never really got into flashing before so I'm quite new to that and appreciate your help. Thanks a bunch.

You don't have to downgrade to flash NUT. It's been a while since I did it, but I'm pretty sure that flashing supersu won't totally remove Kingroot. Best thing to do once you're rooted, if you don't want to unlock bl, is probably to install recovery, then in recovery flash a prf, which will wipe your system and install new system with supersu instead of Kingroot.

I don't trust any universal rooting apps. Only way to legit root your phone is to downgrade to kitkat and then root using exploit, then flash prerooted lollipop (that is if you wan't to stay on stock rooted rom). If you don't plan on staying on stock room and only want quick root you have to use kingroot since that's only universal root that can root z1c. When it comes to recovery there you have two choices. To use xzdualrecovery or to unlock bootloader (you will loose drm keys which means you will lose stuff like x-reality) and flash normal recovery. I would go for dual recovery because if you ever wan't to get back to stock you can since stock recovery isn't getting overwritten with xzdr. But if you choose to unlock bootloader first backup TA (you have to be rooted) and then unlock.
Hope this helps

I would go with unlock bl method. You can restore TA after rooting so you done lose drm, and it's easy to root with unlocked bl - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72547776&postcount=6
