I couldn't find a thread for the incredible about replacing the HTC messaging with something different so i'm going try this out here.
My question is can i get a different messaging application for example the Samsung messaging, or something different and flash that on and make that my default instead of the HTC? My friend actually has the Samsung messaging.apk but i don't know if i can simply reboot into clock work and flash it on there. Does anyone know if this is possible?
Sorry bud the messaging app can't be switched like that because its ran by HTC sense.... best bet is to try an app from the market but never delete the orignal or you won't have messaging at all

Ok thanks alot for the info. I'm assuming that same goes for if i had a gingerbread rom on my phone i cant flash a different messaging system on there?
Yea each Rom has a system framework that runs certain things and if its not there it won't work

It does not matter what ROM you are using, you can use a different default messaging program. The most popular on here are Handcent and ChompSMS. Both can be found on the market and set as your default messaging app.

Yeah i was asking if i can take a system default messaging program for example not the HTC messaging, and flash a different one for example Samsung messaging. Thank you though
I've loved the themes that I've seen for the gmail app, but unfortunately, I have non-gmail accounts and so must use the seldom-themed, standard Mail app. Any chance somebody could do one of those black/cyan themes for me? It would be GREATLY appreciated.
*Note: Yes, I realize that I posted this in a different section of the forum. I tried to delete the post, but couldn't figure out how. If there is a way to, let me know.

Try this. Original inversion credit goes to travp624 over at rootzwiki, and the icons are mine. I use corporate email exclusively too, and run AOKP 4.0.3- it works great.
How did you install it? I threw it in /system/app (there wasn't already an email.apk) and now I keep getting an error when the phone is on that "Email has stopped"

Aha. You must be running a different rom that still has the other email apk. (called googlemail.apk or something like that.) This is only for 4.0.3 roms like aokp or similar. sorry about that. Just delete mine and push a copy of your old one back. If you don't have a backup, just pull one out of the rom you use and push it.
Yes and no. I'm using the Apex ROM on 4.0.3. Any way around this?

Honestly I'm not familiar with Apex. The OP on rootz said it was compatible with "most" 4.0.3 roms. If it's extremely important to use exchange email, AOKP is an amazing rom and the file i sent works great.
Rootz thread:

Alright, I'm still kind of new at this. Can I flash the AOKP ROM without having to re-enter all of my user data and app settings? That would be a major PITA right now.
Would Titanium Backup back up as much as I would need to? Would a Nandroid backup?
Nevermind, I ended up just going back to factory and then flashing AOKP. Loving it so far, though!

question: version 2.0 of what??
The ROM.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
Is there a download link? the one on the actual post says it isn't working. Also, am I suppose to install 2.0 then install the latest version right?
Not to jump in on the MIUI questions, but I have one as well...
I rely a lot on Go SMS because of its individual notification settings for different contacts. In the previous version of this rom, though, the stock messaging app was overriding Go SMS's settings no matter if it was selected as the default messaging app. Anybody else have this problem and can offer a solution?

I haven't tried it with GO SMS, but to get TabletTalk to work I had to disable MMS Priority in the MIUI messaging settings. If you haven't tried that already, I suggest trying that.
I know it's not a definite fix, but I figured an idea is better than nothing

I'm actually not on MIUI at the moment, but the next time I flash it (probably soon), I'll let you know if that works. Thanks for the tip!

I tried this ROM out today as well and did not flash to 2.0 first.
I only made sure to factory rest/wipe cache/dalvik and then format system, data, cache and sdcard.
After that, I flashed from external sdcard the latest version of the ROM and had no issues (aside from the usual needing to reboot the phone once to restore data connectivity).
I hope this helps :fingers-crossed:
Might as well ask another general MIUI question....lol.
Most other ROM's handle Google Voice integration pretty well. For example, when I place a phone call, my call log shows the person's actual number, not the random number Google used to make the integration work.
With MIUI, though, my call log shows that random number instead. Anybody happen to know why that's to case, and if there's a way around it?
Thanks!
I recently converted back to Android with the M8 (went from OG Droid to iPhone 4S and now back again) and I'm just looking at the huge amount of apps HTC includes. Does anyone prefer the stock app to other Google Play options?
Also, would anyone recommend the HTC Backup? I looked at it, but I have no experience with it; I do know it's better than Verizon's "cloud" though!
If Google has an alternarive, I'll use it. They're a better software company.

Does it restore messages if you use a 3rd party SMS app? That actually sounds really useful...

Starting with Kitkat, message store is central and handled by the OS, not the individual apps ... thats why you can only have one single app for messaging enabled at any one time in 4.4

Wow seriously, that's fantastic! I guess I'll be using their backup then!

I'd recommend SMS backup and Restore. It's what i've been using since as long as I can remember.
Hello, I am having a rather odd problem. It seems like anything that uses time on my phone, won't update.
Whenever I check my lock screen (Pattern), the lock screen clock shows the last time I unlocked my phone, and only updates to this time I unlocked. (7:10 when it is really 8 for example. Then next time 8;01 when it really is 8:30 and so on.)
Also, it seems my widgets using time also do no update. My clock still says 7:00. (HD widgets)
Any ideas why this may happen? Multiple searches on Google did not help. Thank you in advance.
Edit; I also did reboot many times, and I have tried force stopping my alarm clock/ lock screen and widgets. Doesn't help.

Have you tried clearing caches from recovery?
What ROM are you using?
Do you have any Xposed mods installed?

I am on stock with unicon xposed module, kitkat toast back port, and advanced power menu.
I figure it out though, after wiping the cache and dalvik cache it fixed itself. I just wanna know what caused it. That is extremely weird.

That is kind of weird. I would to try to reproduce it because I too am on stock, but I am unfmamiliar with Unicon and Kit Kat toast, are those on the xda thread and not the repo?
Also, since you are also on stock: any idea how to enable emoji support in the stock messaging app? hangouts sucks, it keeps giving me flak and not downloading MMS messages.

Kitkat Toast message is in the downloads section of the closed module.
Unicon is on the play store, but it use to be a free module called "Icon Themer".
On the emoji thing; Honestly, all I did was download the Change APN app from the play store and entered the APN people were using on the ART ROM port. For some reason that one let's you use any messaging app on stock. Weird, I know but it works. Actually everything works on that APN. (I used the original one, not the others ones that said "if this one doesn't work, try this APN")
After using the APN edit, I personally use 8Sms as my texting app. It is the same as the old cm10/10.2 texting app with emoji support. Pretty awesome. Much faster than hangouts (on stock).
This APN

Sorry, one more set of pictures.
Here is the app. It also has quick reply and turn on screen when getting a message. Pretty cool.
Here is it in action working with the APN.
