Wifi tether on 4.3 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

First I searched through the forum and couldn't find anything addressing this. I am running stock 4.3 rooted. I can't seem to find a wifi tether app that works. I downloaded one from http://android-wifi-tether.googlecode.com but when it enables I get an error and no wifi shows for me to connect to. Any help or a good tether app would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know of any wifi tether app that actually works on stock 4.3 (MK4) ROM. As far as I know, you will need to be rooted and flash a stock deodexed ROM and flash the hot spot hack or flash a custom ROM that has it enabled already. There was a wifi tether app that people claimed worked on the stock 4.2 ROM but I'm not sure if it required root permissions or not. I would just root and flash a custom ROM or a stock deodexed stock rom then flash the hot spot hack from LorJay's thread in development forum. It's the best way to accomplish what you're trying to achieve in my opinion.

Is it possible to only have Root+CWM w/ Hotspot? [EL29]

Hey guys, I'd like to apologize in advance if there is already a post or thread already out there for this, I swear I looked everywhere. Anyways, I'm not the smartest person in the world, but I know enough to flash custom roms, create nandroids, and how to get back to stock. My questions is, I want to run GB until ICS officially comes out, but is there anyway that I can only root+cwm my EL29 ROM and only have sprint hotspot hack? My objective is to keep the phone as stock as possible with the exception of root+cwm so I can nandroid, use Titanium Backup PRO, and connect my wireless devices to an actual hotspot, instead of using the wifi tether app. I'm currently running an EL29 custom rom that has all of the above, but sometimes I'd like to just have the "stock" TW feel without the theme and tweaks.
PS - The closest thing that I know of is the ACS AIO mods, but unfortunately I'm not able to even flash the mod for some reason...
ah... best i can say is odin stocked rooted el29 everything is the same as stock and if u wann unroot odin does that also and the hotspot hack there is a page on how u can install it w that stock set up.

here C. Here is the Hack [ACS][Mod][EK02][EL13][Deodex][Odex]Hotspot Mod Now With 4G! Download on your computer and upload to your phone. Once on your phone use cwm to unzip it. after it is Unzipped and installed perform a reboot in CWM. It should work after that. If you used stock EL29 then use the Odexed EL29 hack. link for this info page is this: http://androidforums.com/epic-4g-to...936-stock-el29-rom-wifi-hack-now-working.html

4.1.1 S3 Simple Root

Hey everyone, I updated my T-Mobile S3 to 4.1.1 when it came out two weeks ago and my phone was rooted on ICS. I had already downloaded the stock firmware to use with Odin before the root66 firmware was uploaded here. I was too lazy to redownload it so I figured I would just root after I updated to JB. I realized the toolkit that I used to root in ICS does not work in JB and after looking through the forum it seemed like the only way would be to push the root66 firmware in Odin. The thread that shows how to use the roo66 says that its used if you don't want to void your warranty and if it does not matter there are easier ways to do it. So, is there a faster way to root the T-Mobile stock JB or would I have to use root66 with odin? Also, when I pushed the stock JB using odin I did not lose any data on the phone, I know it's probably the same with the root66 but I just wanted to double check with you guys if I would lose any data after pushing the root66 firmware using odin. All help will be appreciated. Thanks a lot.
No you shouldn't lose any data, but it can happen. Always backup first!
Root66 imo is the easiest and safest way. You can check out cf-root in original development too. Never used that one though.

Thanks Doc. Also, the only real reason I wanted my root back was to use the Wifi Tether app. It worked well on ICS however I heard people were having problems with it on JB. Do you or anyone else know if it works or not?
It has been confirmed working, but Tmo has also been blocking tethering on more devices.

Search xda for treve tether. He's released a mod that seems to have a very high success rate.

download an app called easy tether. easy as it gets right there man, the app will walk you through the setup... when you get to the part when you need to find out what version of windows you are on (if on windows), open your start menu and where it says "search programs and files" type: dxdiag
your system info will pop up. on your way
as far as the rooting method, honestly, i think CF root is the easiest way. it's just booting into download mode and navigating to the .tar.md5 file... he wasn't joking when he said it literally takes 30 seconds.
and that easy tether app, does not require root access. so go ahead and download it naaaoooo
good luck bud

[Q] Wifi-Tether no longer working on Stock 4.3 ROM?

I used the Wifi Tether app on 4.12 and after the upgrade I am no longer able to use the app to tether. After a while I got the Sprint Hotspot app working but I would rather use the Wifi Tether app to connect as it offers more control.
What could block the app from starting a hotspot?

give it some time, 4.3 is only a few weeks "old" here.
Its going to take a little time to redo the code, as many changes were made going from 4.1.2 to 4.3
Which WiFi Tether app you were using?

Had the same issue here. I was using WiFi tether TrevE mod.

You guys can just use the hacked native hotspot
It's a lot more stable too
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47905302
I’m using the Hotspot mod by Rocket321 (MK3 Odex). On a stock rooted 4.3 ROM. After being idle or having no connections the hotspot app is turning off. Is this normal? Can I force it to stay enabled?

Yeah TrevE Mod no good on 4.3 Stock CF Auto Root
I really like this app but I guess like someone else said here, there's something not jiving with the code for 4.3?? any clues as to when an updated version will be released? I did the OTA update lost root, re rooted and now TrevE Mod doesnt work. Help!

Is there a way to just get the hack stock hot spot without having to use that ROM? Does this only work if you're using that ROM that goes with it? Can it be used on Stock Samsung Rom 4.3?

You need to have a custom recovery to flash it, but other than that you can use it on stock MK3, no need to be on that rom
Just make sure you flash the right version (odex/deodex)

Trying it now. I flashed CWM v6.x something and installed the odexed version (correct one) and now phone is rebooting. Lets see how this goes...lol
Lost root upon rebooting the phone. Back to where I was on STOCK RECOVERY and STOCK Samsung MK3 ROM. How can I retain root, and have CWM recovery? I tried SkunkApes method, that way gives custom recovery but i lose root. CF auto root gives root, but stock recovery. ????

While in recovery, flash aroma file browser and delete these files
Code:
/system/etc:
install-recovery.sh
recovery-resource.dat
Custom recovery should stick after that
For su, flash the supersu recovery install zip
I know everyone here wants a free solution but if you're rooted and really need free WiFi tethering I got WiFi Tether Router from the Google Play store and it works great. It's two bucks but it's worth two bucks to me. Especially since I didn't install a custom recovery so I have no way to flash anything. This app just works with your rooted phone.
I remember all the headaches of getting TrevE working when I was in 4.1.2. Two bucks is worth the aggravation of not having to go through that again.

In case anyone has trouble getting this working, these are the settings I used, which were supplied by the developer:
For Samsung Galaxy S3 use this config:
Interface wlan0
Method 3 - HostApda
Channel 1
Encryption wpa2-psk
Drivers nl80211
"HostApd Patch" <- UNCHECKED
"No Firmware Reload" <- UNCHECKED
Again, not free but for two bucks and no more headaches, it was well worth it for me.
Forgive me if this is answered somewhere else.. I can't find it.
If one were to use the stock hotspot app.. How would/does the carrier track hotspot usage? Additionally, is there a better app to use which prevents being tracked?
Thanks in advance.
I've posted this before but I caved in and bought WiFi Tether Router for two bucks - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter&hl=en
It works flawlessly on rooted 4.3 and is well worth it for two dollars. I know we all like free options but sometimes a cheap app is worth the investment. If you find a good modded wifi app you should probably make a donation to the developer anyway so call it even.

Wifi Tether MK4?

So I successfully rooted MK4 (thanks developers) and all I want now is native hotspot to work or Wifi Tether to work. I want to stay stock rooted. Has anyone been able to accomplish this? Thanks!

Please help! I can't figure this out

Hey everyone. I have a SPH-L900 and I was running rooted 4.1.2 stock rom. I was rooted to run wifi tether. I updated to 4.3 unknowing that I would lose the ability to use my Trev-E Wi-Fi tether.
I have been looking for the 4.1.2 .tar to back date but the ones I find either don't work when I try to flash through Odin V. 3.04 or the link is just no good. Is there a way to get free wifi tether with 4.3 that I'm unaware of?
I've tried the Mod and that didn't work.
Otherwise what am I doing wrong with trying to back date to 4.1.2 and where can I get a working copy of the 4.1.2 .tar?
Any and ALL help greatly appreciated!
Wes~
Use billard412 rom restore. Will wipe everything and get you back to 4.1.2 bootloader.
