Upgrade 4.1.2 using ODIN

Was about to update my Note 2 to 4.1.2 using N7100XXDLL7_N7100OXADLL4_XEF, after a bit of late night stupidity last night not being able to get into download mode i was set to give it another try, however when I download the above zip file I end up with this filename which I'm sure the extension isnt right?

So I just deleted the ".md5" im just wondering if I should just wait for the OTA, I want to keep root so I can use sky go.

use mobile odin to flash rom it will also root it for you

If you flash it in Odin, You shouldt leave the name as it is:
N7100XXDLL7_N7100OXADLL4_N7100XXDLK7_HOME.tar.md5
With the 'md5' extention
After flashing you might root again with toolkit
Note that youre GNII will be fresh and all is to be erased

Yeah I understand it will be wiped, but thats not the end of the world, but flashing the stock rom using odin wont root the device or trigger the flash counter?

Then just flash the .tar.md5 file with mobile odin but deselect Inject Ever Root, Super SU and Mobile Odin. Unless the ROM you are flashing is rooted, then you will not be rooted when you reboot.

[Q] GSIII 4.3 Root Help

Hi everyone,
I want to root my Galaxy SIII which is currently running Touchwiz 4.3 from last week's official update but I can't find any guides on how to do it for this specific android version, only 4.1.1 and 4.1.2. If anyone could write a tutorial here or send me in the correct direction that would be much appreciated! :laugh:

First off what is your specific model....Me I did root with Odin with twrp recovery.I downloaded the recovery for the d2tmo the ( .tar file ) and flash thru Odin and then rebooted in recovery and flashed supersu and that's it i'm done

Are you sure, I read somewhere that Knox kept getting in the way of it.

When you root your phone, I believe that superuser/supersu asks if you want to disable Knox.

Use updated recoveries and SuperSU.

Just flash the new twrp and then the super user and ther u will be root

After you're rooted, I recommend flashing the latest stable CM 10.2! I just flashed it today, and it runs like a champ!

hey, i need help, im new to android i rooted my galaxy s4 4.2.2 tmobile everything was fine. i got a new galaxys 4 fresh 4.3 already installed! i rooted it with SOFTROOT because i dont want the knox to know! okay, my questions are.... if i want to install a custom recovery do i have to unroot it then install the custom recover then root it? Whats the best custom recovery that i can use/install on galaxy s4 4.3 ?? iknow this will trip knox... T-mobile... please tell me everything, if its possibles the steps. thank you!

Nah, just open up Odin, connect your phone to your computer, download CWM, PHILZ or TWRP tar file, click on PDA, choose the tar recovery file you just downloaded, and flash it. That's all. Very simple. Then you can go into recovery and flash custom roms.

First, calm down, I can read. Second, you are solely responsible for your own device. Third, Saferoot is only for root, it has absolutely nothing to do with recovery. Flashing a recovery through Odin will allow you to flash custom roms, which is what you asked how to do. No need for Safestrap.

[Q] [Help]Sprint S4 Mini latest update root

I cannot get my sprint S4 Mini to root using kingo app. KNOX pops up and says unauthorized access or something like that. My first phone I had from sprint would root using kingo app. But I had to get a replacement and it came with the "WiFi Calling" update or whatever. How can I get it to root now?
Model number: SPH-l520
Android Version: 4.2.2
Kernel Version: 3.4.0-2489097

There is no spot for the Sprint S4 mini. So this is the second best spot

If the device in question is indeed the mini.. Your Op has the wrong model number for the sprint version. Starts with L- not I and I think that's what was thrown off. However, don't use Kingo these days you must search. It's in here I'll check.

I have L. it is just not capital. little l big L

If chainfire won't help, then there is no help. I've been asking around to no avail. My Mini is getting returned. Done with Samsung.

The only fix is for someone to create a way to root via odin that bypasses knox, and since nobody cares about this phone, that's not happening any time soon. It's already been EOL'd so it's not going to gain any traction. I just returned mine. Not worth having at this point.

Root Works
I got mine rooted today after coming back to stock from custom ROM. I have my KNOX Tripped which i dont care about and if you dont care about tripping it either ill let ya know how i did it. LMK

Do tell. I just ordered a return kit to send mine back. If I know I can root it after each update, I might keep it.

You have to flash a custom Recovery via Odin. This will Trip KNOX to 0X1! Here is a link to the file. https://www.dropbox.com/s/3d1q1dzelglf093/recovery.tar.md5
Once you have flashed the recovery reboot into Recovery and install from ZIP. the zip file you need to flash is. https://www.dropbox.com/s/xpoc279um1b6uf9/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.94%5B1%5D.zip
Once that is complete reboot and go to SuperSU App and Bam you are rooted.

The recovery was used from S0be's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2669991. I used his recovery-serranoltespr_cwm_based_6.0.4.7.img link and converted to MD5.

I just got a used one in the mail today that was already on NA7 and factory reset it just to be safe. So we can now root even on NA7?
Any chance of bricking it using the custom recovery?

Possible but not probable. The only issue we have now I believe is no NA7 tar to fall back on.

What's wrong with my Note 4? (Pictures)

I have acquired a Note 4 the other day and when I try to power it on I'm greeted with this message. I've done some searching on YouTube but I don't see anyone with this specific error, the top left part has information on it that most videos don't cover. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated

Can you tell me specifically what program to use and firmware to flash? It's been several years since I've had to do anything like this.

If you have twrp, just flash from it. If not, use Odin to flash twrp first, and then you can picj any room you fancy

I've been trying to re flash firmware via Kies but couldn't get it to work, I was using Kies since that is what my phone is telling g me to do, but am I supposed to use Odin? Also does it matter specifically which firmware I flash?
