I got my m8 on 4/12/14 and i was going to make a phone call today for the first time without bluetooth and i noticed when i brought the phone up to my ear that there was what sounded like something jiggling loose in the phone, its not very loud, and seems to be located somewhere in the upper half of the phone.
Is anyone else experiencing something like this? i read a thread where some people were complaining about the volume button being loose, but i do not think it is that, as i held the volume with my finger and shook the device, only to still hear it.
I noticed this yesterday. It's the power/lock button.

Thanks! I hadn't even thought it could be that, i wonder if that is a Quality control issue or if that is just the way it is.
Mine is the same way. I'm not too worried about it as it doesn't seem like it is going anywhere, just has a little extra play.
Mine seems to be that way also, but I really have to shake the phone to hear it. Looks like it's just the way it is

i'll do somthing in the UI to make a sound .. like a touch tone.. then in a few seconds i'll hear a pop from the rear speaker
anyone else have this issue?
Anyone having this issue?
basically.. does your rear speaker pop when the amp cuts power to the speaker ?
cant say i have this happening on mine
Exactly have the same problem. I didn't notice the hiss though, but definitely heard the pops. But yes when I listen closely I with my ear to speaker I hear exactly what you described: a hiss ending in a pop.

On my other phone (samsung epic 4g touch), it does the hiss/pop/silence thing too, but the pop is much much quieter that I can only hear it if I put my ear right next to the speaker.
However on this galaxy nexus it is loud enough that I can hear it from 1-3 feet-ish. Its especially noticeable in quiet areas.
I'm considering return it because of this

For me it's not a big problem. I notice it but it is not annoying me. I hear it only when I'm concentrating on it. BTW just applied the new update and that didn't fix this issue.

oh good to know... cause I'm actually kinda wondering if this affects all devices or just a few. If it affects mostly all, i wont bother getting a replacement

wow me too!
it's not so bad i guess
least i know the amp is turning off saving battery
I am having this issue also i have noticed it today i was in a quiete area. Is it an option that you can disable? I am afraid this will drain the battery

I'm pretty sure this happens on all devices. I have this on all my phones, navigation units, clock radios...
Me, too, I just checked all electronical devices I have and they all have it. Though, it's so quiet, that I have to get closer to the speaker than I normally ever woult.
Is that different for the GN? Is it louder than "normal"?

my GN is defiantly louder than normal. I can hear it easily from almost any normal usage distance. It almost sounds exactly like the normal touch sounds so that I get confused and think I clicked on something
pretty sure it's the amp cutting off power to the speaker a few seconds after it makes a noise
Mine does it too. Simplest solution I've found is to turn off touch sounds. That way the speaker doesn't keep turning on and off so often. I would normally turn those sounds off anyway because they are annoying, so it's no biggie for me.
Only time I have noticed a speaker pop is going into recovery
Mine does this too.
Glad its not just mine!
yeah, i thought i was going crazy last night too, but i definitely have the same popping problem
its not very loud , but its there - i heard it when i was in my room cause it was dead silent. Whenever i played any type of sound file, you'd hear the little pop afterwards from the speaker =/
it kinda sucks with touch tones for the dialer cause it happens everytime you push a number
i wonder if google/samsung knows about this and if it can somehow be fixed through a SW patch just like the volume bug haha - cause this LOOKS like a HW issue again
Yes, I certainly also get this, my hearing is very sensitive, so something like this is very noticeable for me.
Even "turn off touch sounds" doesn't seem to stop it.

I would guess it's just something as simple as properly muting the output to the speaker before turning it off. This should prevent the voltage spike from affecting the speaker.
Its not unique to the Nexus - it can potentially happen to anything with a speaker that isn't muted before turning off the amp.
I am on my third replacement phone (last one the LED notification didn't work) and now I am noticing that there is a very faint 'Pop' sound emitted from the speaker phone 3 seconds after there is a system audio sound. For instance, every time I hit the Home button or unlock the phone, I hear the 'Pop' three seconds later.
Does anyone else have this problem? If I have headphones plugged in, I do not hear the sound through the headphones.
Thanks!
Dude is it possible that u have the lock n unlock sounds enabled?

Yes I do have the sounds enabled and I hear those fine. I am hearing an additional click/pop noise 3 seconds later. It makes the sound pretty much every time the phone makes noise. It's very faint.
From what I've read this is a pretty common problem. Mine does this as well but honestly I can only hear it when its quiet.
There's also another thread on this topic but I don't believe there was really conclusion.
Mine and a bunch of nexi at my local best buy suffer from this. It is not dependent on lock sounds it's a problem with the DAC I believe

Gotcha. Are you boosting your volume with volume+ or any other app?
Thank you for the replies. I'm glad to hear I'm not alone.
I have the same problem. I posted a thread yesterday, and there's another one (i didn't see it before posting mine).
That's a pretty annoying issue, i used to have the same thing on my unibody MacBook (fixed with an unofficial software patch), and once you hear it, well, you can't unhear it.
I hope this is not a hardware issue and can be fixed by some patch, but no one seems to care about this one (maybe not all GN have this problem?)
I decided to just disable all touch tones since it was bothering me too much. Just out of curiosity I checked another Nexus and the pop is still there but could only be heard by literally holding the speaker phone to my ear. Not nearly as loud as mine.

Yeah dude.... same. I actually started the original thread on this. Its so annoying hey.... I hear ya man. I dunno, I did the same as you, disabled touch sounds. Its sounds cheap doesn't it.
I really hope its software related. I was trying to find out if, just a bit of 007 work, Haha, if it was maybe the build? Seeing if the people with a Google updated nexus's had the issue compared to people with the Samsung updated ones. I wonder if there a connection....

I want to figure out if my phone is defected, or if all Nexus' are like this.
About 3 seconds after sound comes out of the phone's speaker, do you hear a popping noise? It sounds like the speaker is almost turning off, but extremely late..
Thanks.
I'm sure your nexus is still a Canadian citizen but I think all our phones have this issue... some worse than others. I can barely hear mine. I have to bring the speaker right up to my ears to notice

Yup, same here. It has to be dead silent around me to hear the pop, but its always there. What's weird is that the first nexus I had, which was the titanium one, didn't have the pop sound. The white one I bought does.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
More people mentioned this when nexus first came out. Didn't think much of it at the time. I had it happen a couple times though. Not for quite awhile though. I wouldn't worry about it unless it is frequent.
bow chicka wow wow.
didn't had anything like that with my nexus (white version, produced in february). maybe that was a problem with one of the earlier charges?

Yes my nexus does this too. Its been posted already.
Yes, but its so soft i'd have to put my ear right next to the speaker.
Ya, it's a low popping noise, but it's noticeable when you're using the phone in a very quiet environment
Both of my Gnex have the issue. One has a whining noise, the other a hissing for 3 seconds then pop. I'm sure it'll be solved if and when Google releases a software fix for it. It doesn't really bother me and I have very sensitive hearing, you just learn to tune it out. It shouldn't be doing this in the first place, but **** happens eh?
Yeah, this issue happens to me as well... though I was able to make it better. I pulled the battery for ~30 minutes and help power button with no battery to drain all current. After rebooting a few times, the issue seems to have diminished and I can only hear it when I have the speaker right up against my ear unlike before when I could hear it sitting on the desk.
Nope

I've noticed that my volume button is not level, it seems to be pushed in more at the bottom. I'm worried that this may caused some issue later on. Can anyone else confirm if their button is like this or is it a defect. I still have time to exchange it if necessary.
My phone has the same thing - it seems like it's manufactured that way. Even a few people stated that when putting on a case, that one button feels more tactile than the other. As long as I can control both buttons without difficulty, I'm okay with it.
Cool thanks for the reply.

Display at T-Mobile was like that. Seems common.

While it seems like it may be common it bugged the hell out of me so I took it to T-Mobile and they replace it with a new phone and this one does not have this issue. I will see after some use if it happens again.
Hi guys! I recently bought my Oneplus 5t. To make sure everything is okay I had a question.
My Oneplus 5t is working very well, I really like it a lot. I only discovered one thing. When using vibration when the speaker is on you hear besides from the normal vibration sound another very little sound. Now this sound is not that bad, and you might not even hear it. But i was wondering if this is a normal sound.
Fot instance when you unlock the phone. When unlocking you hear a little unlock sound. After this sound the speaker will be on for around 1 or 2 seconds. You'll hear almost nothing, but when placing your ear against the speaker you hear a little static sound. This is normal and on ervery phone, and goes away after a couple of seconds. This is because for your speaker to work you''l need some eletricity going trough it. Again, you almost don't hear this and it's very normal.
When this sound is on and you press for instance the home bottom. The phone will vibrate, if you do this a couple of times fast after unlocking, when the speaker is still on, you''ll hear that little sound I was talking about before. After a couple of seconds, when the speaker is compelety turned off, you don't hear the sound anymore when virbating.
So my conclusion is that it's probably the phone vibrating when the speaker is on, and this (due to how the phone is made) makes a little rosonance with the speaker. I knot for a fact that they moved the vibration motor on the 5t to the bottom off the phone, so it's next to the speaker. Again it's almost no sound and you'll only notice it if you're very carefull. I just wanted to check if my conclusion is right and there is no problem with the phone itself.
In the following video I demonstrate te problem. I will play some music and then let the phone vibrate. From second 2 to 5 you'll hear the 'water drop' sound. The speaker is now still on because it takes some time for the speaker to totaly 'rest' (again this is normal and on every single phone with a speaker). After second 5 the speaker turns totaly off however, and now you'll hear no more water drup sound.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zi8mvO5qNYo
I've also contacted Oneplus Support wirh the video. They said that their devices had it too and that it was a normal sound. What do you guys thinks?

In my eyes OnePlus has done some sh** with this. Same like the "upside down" screen in OnePlus5.
Edit: don't get me wrong. I love the 5T and I cannot think of using another smartphone. But I know oneplus and they will say:"It's normal behavior Blabla"

Thanks for the reply man!
I've seen both treads (made the OnePlus one myself haha). Also got answer from the technical support of OnePlus who analysed my video more times and told me they noticed the sound but it's normal and in their phones too.
I agree that they did not totally think this one through. The vibration motor is just to close to the speaker.. They should have put in the same location as the 5.
But well I guess it's just getting used to. Many people don't ever noticed it I guess, for instance, when you turn on 'sound on tap' you can't even hear it, and it sounds pretty normal if you don't know better.
I'm glad that it's not a hardware malfunction, but it's some getting used to. Further than that, it's an truly amazing phone..

I think many people don't realize it because it's so little? I mean when you do notice it and you're like us (worried if you're new phone might be broken) you'll know. But otherwise the sound is pretty normal I guess?
Glad that it's okay
