Does anyone know how to make certain apps stop running in the background? For instance, I have Google Plus running in the background, Amazon Kindle, contacts, Google contact sync, and I did turn off notifications in the app settings for each of these apps but they still run in the background. I don't want to freeze them I just want them to stop running in the background when I'm not using them.

Hello,
I just wanted to know if there was any way to block non-android apps? I know you can do it from settings, then applications, but you can enable installation of apps by just checking that option. Is there any way I can block them? Thanks, and I want to do this because my brother keeps installing useless games and apps again and again.
I don't think you can any other way.. but one thing you can do is install a app that can hide your android market app or any other app you choose so he cant access the market... I can't quite remember the name of it but its a pretty cool app.. you can also hide pics, movies, and other media on your phone.. wish I could help a little more

What apps have you disabled on your note II? Just wondering in case anyone had encountered any issues. Not rooted, and no intentions of doing so anytime soon.

Um, it's a feature included with ICS and higher. I've been disabling apps on my Note II already, just wanted to see what other people have been doing.

Settings/applications...click an app, to the right of force stop is a disable button. Same as freezing with Titanium as best I can tell. However, not all apps can be disabled. For example, I just checked Allshare Cast app, the disable button is grayed out, even after a force stop.

There are ads when browsing for a movie but no ads during playback or push adware so far I've had it for about a week.

I got push ad notifications even when not using the app.
Haven't tried the app but you can disable the notifications in the app info screen under application manager...should disable the ads.

I'll never recommend the official Facebook app because it requires too much permissions that aren't necessary at all.

I've tried most 3rd party facebook apps and found with them all that, although I could see most things, I could not see posts by some people and some people could not see my posts. I believe this was to do with the other people's security settings.
The best thing I've found is to use the official facebook app, but in the settings, disable all notifications/updates etc so it's doing nothing in the background.
I then use MB Notifications for facebook, which only costs 80p and gives me the most reliable notifications I've experienced. I receive mine every 10 mins.
I've also found that this setup does not particularly hammer the battery either
MB notifications is here:

Atrium is pretty good, bro, if you don't mind the ads: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...GwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5yYWRpYW50Yml0cy5hdHJpdW0iXQ..
Pulse is also awesome as an SNS all-in-one viewer.
So I get this icon that shows my CPU usage and battery that appeared randomly on my notification bar. I'm not sure how it got there but I'm quite used to it now and like the looks of it. Does anyone know how to enable or disable it just incase it goes away on it's own? Or should I be aware of it because it can be a harmful third party app?

Are you using any 3rd party app that monitor your cpu status ect.? I know when I used "Quick System Info" app I had the option to shows those info on my status bar.
Does it also show in the drop down panel? If it does long press on it and chose "App info".

Open your notifications and tap and hold the notification then click app info.
Nothing shows when I drag the notification bar but the same thing it does now. It covers my icons under it and if I were to be on Youtube watching a video on fullscreen it still shows. I haven't installed anything in about a week either. I don't want to take it to T-Mobile and ask since my phones rooted also

Can you provide a list of apps that you have installed? It would help narrow down which programs have the permission to draw overlays and that would likely reveal the culprit. Also, have you tried disabling the Xposed framework to make sure it's not one of the modules you installed (doubt it, but worth the trouble)?

You've installed something recently or changed an app's settings recently. That is an output from a monitoring app. CPU, GPU, or something of that sort.
You need to check that app(s) and uncheck whatever seems to point to showing it.
