Hello,
I'm trying to downgrade my Canadian Note 2 (SGH-i317M) from 4.3 back down to 4.1.2 but I'm having some issues.
First off, the Sammobile.com firmware site doesn't even have the file available anymore. I tried getting it for Virgin Mobile, but it says the file isn't found so I guess they deleted it off their servers. Since it should be exactly the same for any of the 3 carriers and their subsidiaries I tried flashing a Telus version and a Bell version but both failed to flash in Odin.
After the failed flash I get the yellow firmware failed text screen and it telling me to do an emergency recovery in Kies, which of course I can't do.
So, does anyone know why the flashing is failing?
Thanks

Looks like you have to do the battery pull/boot into recovery/factory reset steps described in the thread linked above.
I have the same problem. I have i317m though. I got 4.1.1 but can't get rid of the modified status, nor will it accept 4.1.2. Done that how to 5 times. Darn knoc had to mess up the fun.
Try installing 4.1.1 via odin

After several coding attempts, my Note 2 LTE has finally been unlocked from EE.
It was on JB 4.3 but now I notice that it is on 4.1.2 but I'm unable to contact the unlocker at present.
I tried to do a software update to get back to 4.3 but get a message that 'your device has been modified and SW updates are not available'.
Does this mean that it was rooted to achieve the Sim unlock and if so, how can I tell?
Is there another way to revert to 4.3?
Download a ROM on Sammobile and update your phone with Odin or Mobile Odin.

Thanks for your help.
Does the phone have to be rooted for this? I've just been advised to run Antutu and according to that, it's not rooted.
TBH I'm a bit (OK a lot) scared to do something that's gonna brick my phone.
All I really want is a working phone with the latest updates.
No need to be root, if something fail you can reflash with another usb port until it works.
Hey guys i am trying to use odin to downgrade from android 4.3 to Android 4.1.1 but for some reason it keeps on failing in odin. And now i am stuck in "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again". How do i know if i have the correct stock file? I downloaded 4.1.1 from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1...e=TLS#firmware.. why is it keep on failing? i have checked and kies is off and i am using the original samsung cable odin recognizes the phone but it "fails"
please help
Do you have an AT&T s3? If you do, you cannot downgrade the 4.3 bootlaoder using desktop Odin and there is no stock AT&T 4.3 ROM.

Be thankful Odin failed because if it hadn't you probably would have had a bricked phone on your hands now. Like the senior member already advised, you can't downgrade the bootloader on the 4.3 to an older system. Desktop Odin tries to flash most partitions which is why it failed. If I may ask, why are you trying to downgrade to 4.1.1? If it's to free unlock the phone, you may be advised that there haven't been conclusive results on the viability of this process. It's possible to downgrade the system itself without downgrading the bootloader by flashing with other methods apart from Odin. I'm not aware, however, that anyone's been able to unlock even after this.
It's unlikely you'd be able to use Kies to recover from the phone's current situation as Kies will likely try to update to 4.1.1. If it isn't booting or working normally, you may try doing a hard wipe from recovery. If your phone still has warranty left on it, you may try an authorized service center. I am also assuming you are using an AT&T phone? You may be able to get it fixed at Best Buy
I just picked up an i747 for my wife to use and need to unlock it for SmartTalk. It came running 4.1.2 and everything I see says you have to first downgrade to 4.1.1 to unlock. The trouble is I can't find a working copy of the 4.1.1 firmware anywhere. I signed up for that SamMobile site but the 172MB download seems to be corrupt (tried it on two PCs).
Links on other sites are all long gone. Is there another way of unlocking this phone at this point? If not, does anyone have a copy of the 4.1.1 firmware that I can flash with Odin?

You will find all the files you need via the link below ... The stock file is much larger than 172Mb.

Much appreciated, but I'm getting a failed "aboot" message on the screen when I try to flash it in Odin, which is odd because this isn't even a Canadian phone. I kid, I kid. The message in Odin itself is write operation failed.
What's odd is the sticker under the battery says SGH I747 (and the boot logo is AT&T), but under "Download Mode" for Odin it shows up as T999, which is the T-Mobile version.
Any ideas?
I am not very much familiar with all intricacies of Android system but i have played around rooting and putting customer firmwares on few devices.
I have AT&T Galaxy S3 with following detals:
Baseband: I747UCUEMJB
Version: 4.3
I had the device rooted in the past but recently un-rooted it and reset the flash counter as well and did factory reset. Did all that since i wanted to use ISIS and couldn't make it work on a rooted S3. Seems it used to work before till they updated ISIS app to patch it.
Now AT&T got 4.4 update and my phone detects it, downloads it but while installing fails at 32%. I have seen many threads where people faced similar issues due to their phones being rooted. Seems something on my phone didn't reset to default.
I found one post which mentions that i can download UCUEMJB_to_UCUFNE4_Firmware_update.zip and load it to phone using TWRP. As i understand, this will update the baseband but android version still remains at 4.3 (?). Is that the path i should be looking for or i am shooting in wrong direction? I want to stay on default firmware since i like to use ISIS till they keep running those cashback promos
Would appreciate some feedback.
Download MJB firmware (thread in General) and flash with Odin. You can stop there or try the ota again.

Thanks for the reply.
Just to confirm so that i don't mess up, i will apply the following(is modem same as firmware?) and then try OTA.
I747UCUEMJB: modem_CWM_I747UCUEMJB.zip
No. The modem is only one part of the firmware. Firmware includes bootloaders, kernel, system, modem and more.
I pulled out an old samsung galaxy note 2. The t-mobile model sgh-t889 i believe. i was trying to upgrade it to android 4.4. I found somewhere saying the official at&t roms work for this phone. I tried the most recent one. I317-UCUCNJ2-Stock.tar.md5. this was the file I used. Odin failed almost at the end. Now the phone is frozen in odin with a complete blue bar. Any ideas? i want to flash the tmobile stock rom again but i don't want to make the situation worse?
Hopefully, a locked att bootloader was not flashed to the phone.
All you can do at this point would be to power off the phone, boot into download mode, and try flashing the latest stock rom from sammobile.com.
