Could someone try this? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I want to get an M8 but I love the built in beats equalizer on the m7, if someone could test anything for me that would be awesome,
Adb pull /system/customize/ACC/default.xml
Open it in notepad++
Scroll to the bottom and change these two lines:
Original:

false

true

To say
Edited:

true

false

And tell me if you notice any difference when toggling beats in settings while playing a song.

I changed mine to true for both... let's you toggle between the two on the fly... it adds the option to enable beats in the settings menu... so it's there and works wonderfully....
As far as a difference between the two... i noticed no difference while playing through the phone speakers, but when plugged into headphones/aux jack there is a slight variation... still weighing which I prefer personally...

since i am at the office i can't try speakers but it definitely makes a difference on headphones

Did it but mine has a different outcome. (This is with both set to true)
On internal speakers it won't let me toggle as it states, 'BOOMSOUND CAN'T BE TURNED OFF WHEN USING INTERNAL SPEAKERS.' It does still allow me to turn BEATS on or off at the same tme as having BOOMSOUND enabled. (Absolutely no difference in quality)
This changes when I plug headphones in as it allows me toggle on the fly as posted previously. Have to say not a lot between them but thats probably more to do with the buds I am using (HTC supplied with phone)

great help for me.

when testing on my m7 running an m8 rom, i had tp disable boomsound by setting it to falsemin order to hear a difference with beats turned on.

Just install Viper4Android. It is by far the best audio mod / equalizer I have seen on Android. It has so many advanced options to fully customize the sound to your personal preference. You will need root / busybox / kernel with write protection turned off to install the drivers though.

hello guys, actually i am facing an problem, only the top speaker is working for me. the bottom one is not working no idea y, when i am trying to change sound settings it says BOOMSOUND CAN'T BE TURNED OFF WHEN USING INTERNAL SPEAKER. what should i do i even done the formating thing but no use.

Beats on the M8??

While rummaging thru the default.xml file to change a setting...I noticed a line in there pertaining to support_beats_audio false...While highly unlikely, I wonder what would happen if that was changed to true!!

I did change the value to "true"... rebooted and yes, the settings menu now has the option to enable beats once again... why disabled by default though??

Because Beats and HTC have parted ways so HTC no longer have a licence to include Beats Audio in their phones...

Same here. Now I have options. I like options.
Where exactly is this default.xml? system/customize/acc? Have you guys noticed any improvement with the beats set to true?

Doesn't seem to make much difference. Set both to true and it wont let me disable Boom for speakers but you can toggle between them for headphones. Again didn't seem to make a massive difference.

Yup
If beats is no longer with HTC why still have the code for it. Also it stops boom sound from changing when toggled off.
I've got pretty good hearing and I'll go out on a limb and say, while the beats toggle may be there just enabling it in the xml file doesn't enable the one touch EQ profile know as beats. I think it's just some junk code in the GUI that was left from previous versions or never completed after the split with beats audio Inc. I'm kinda sad as I generally like the beats sound profile and feel it works well with all pop music genres with a conveniece of being 1 button push and done. Boom sound just sounds louder and more distorted to me.

Because that code is just one line in default.xml
and HTC tries to keep a rather common Sense 6 which just needs to be adjusted to the devices.

You are right, there´s no effect at all as the beats audio libs are missing

Also don't try to flash anything beats related or download the beats installer because it will bootloop your phone.
Maybe since sense 6 m7 has beats someone can port it to the M8 as long as it s only software needed.
i have M8 , but how can i find that .xml to true it
Harman kardan audio can also be enabled in that same default.xml but like beats, libs are missing, had no effect.
Emm Eight
When the harmann/kardon phone is out and there imwill be a system dump someone for sure would take those libs etc or even zeroinfinity would made an awesome sound package with that

Dude you don't need to set the things to true as sound will stay the same...the libs for beats and harmann/kardon aren't inside also you can use a root explorer and use its search function in root and search for default.xml

What's this do exactly?
"reboot and enjoy"... Enjoy what?
I will need specifics before i mess with something. What is this modifying?
Lol Its a volume booster mod actually. Increases heaphones or speaker volumes. Already a topic in themes & apps section.
Not really... i took a quick look and it seems the values for headphones are the same as the original file
And here I was hoping this was an eq/quality mod with viper or something...

Hello bro!
Is it a bit louder or you feel a good difference? Can you compare with htc loudness?
Sent from my HTC One M9 using XDA Free mobile app
I did it and the rx1 to rx8 values to be 94?
Only difference i hear is static when someone talks on phone calls.
if I'm not mistaken the in call volume is this:
<ctl name="HPHL Volume" value="20" />
<ctl name="HPHR Volume" value="20" />
I changed mine to 34, but do not head a difference

[ROOT][MOD] Xperia X Volume Boost for Stock Configuration v.1.2

What's bugging me about my brand new Xperia X? The overall low volume.
These simple tweaks, this mod if you may, simply modifies a few lines from the stock audio config files which, after a reboot make your speakers louder and headphones, a bit too loud (but I didn't hear anyone complaining about Xperias for being too loud lol)!
It's for rooted users only and for me it sounds a lot better than using (possibly) unstable sound mods instead of simply adjusting the volume on some pretty decent stock drivers.
It's been tested against 34.0.A.2.301 - but it should be backwards compatible..
UPDATE:
Stereo in-call Voice-Speaker now working;
It should be compatible with N - test it with a backup at hand - I'm on MM because of Xposed;
Stereo for Ringtone-speaker is WIP - feel free to jump in and help ;
Features:
Louder Stereo Speaker sound system wide;
Louder Headphone sound;
Stereo Voice-Speaker for calls;
WIP for Stereo Ringtone-speaker - I'm open to suggestions!
Customizable as you see fit! Just stick to the already explored options.
Conflict-free tweaks - no additional files added, no nothing, just some modified lines - you can trust it .
Installation:
By flashing the .zip with FLASHFIRE [press the red "+" button > Flash ZIP or OTA > leave the options as they are and Click on the "done arrow thingy".
Manually copying the file to /etc - DO NOT forget to set the right permissions (RW R R). Please take a look over the Permissions.png screenshot in case you don't know how to set them - you long click on the file, then go to properties and you'll see the permissions button.
Do it yourself - there's a guide down bellow.
Bugs: -None-
If you have ideas for this, PM me!
In the download section you'll find:
>>Flashable! already modified "Xperia X Getting Loud.zip" with: SPEAKER values - 85 for both RX7/RX8 and HEADPHONE values - 85 for RX1/RX2.
>>Flashable! Stock Values - it's the stock file unmodified.
>>NON-Flashable! zips - there you have 1 zip for the modified file and the stock one so you can place it manually via ES file explorer or the explorer of your choosing.
**And some screenshots that are pretty self explanatory showing you what modifications need to be made if you want to do it yourself.
DIY Guide (using ES File Explorer):
You're probably acquainted with ES File Explorer so it should be pretty simple. The modifications I made were done with ES (it has an built-in editor).
1. Make sure the Root Explorer toggle is On - it's located in the Tools tab as you swipe the left side of the screen;
2. Go to the root of the files where you'll see folders such as "data; dev; firmware; storage; system; etc" go to "etc" folder and scroll down till you see the mixer_paths files;
3. Open "mixer_paths_wcd9335" and at the prompt, select ES Note Editor - it's a huge file so tap right above the navigation bar! A bar with percentage should show up - it will help you navigate through the file;
4.1 Speakers - Get to 42% of the file where you should see the path for "wsa-speaker", ctrl name RX7 and RX8 with their stock values - modify the values as you please but please don't go over 86 - sound will be too distorted;
4.2 Headphones - Go to 53% of the file - you'll see "headphones-regulation" path - ctrl name RX1 and RX2 - modify the values but anything more than 85 might be too much.
4.3 New! Stereo Voice-Speaker - find the path for Voice-speaker as seen in screenshot and simply add some volume there - default is 0 - I'd advise to go lower on that speaker since the mic used for speaker calls is located near the earpiece - so values around 80-82 should be ideal.
5. Save and reboot. If you choose to modify the files on a PC make sure to set the permissions when you put the file back. Otherwise bootloops might occur.
***Internal players such as Music, Video, ringing and notification will try to compensate the sound so it might not be as loud as expected. But try a youtube video and you'll notice the difference.
***Do not attempt to modify something else unless you know what you're doing - on that note, make a backup first. In my first attempts I lost sound device wide with FC for sound effects apk.
***Do not go over the values I imputed (85 for speaker and 85 for headphone) - apart from the distortions that will occur because of the louder volume the internal DAC might not be able to reproduce the sound at such intensity - in my tests one of the speakers was shutting down. Again, no harm can come to your device but don't push it.
***I saw a lot of sections for hi-res headphones, Noise cancelling, etc - I did not explore those options because I don't have the means to test it. Any input and contributions from you guys are most welcome.
These files control the volume output for digital / analog which means it's a non-intrusive way to change volumes with no harm for the device. If volume limit exceeds the capacity of the speakers it will sound bad but there is no chance for physical damage.
I'm coming from a highly modded Xperia Z (that phone saw some torture) which made use of the earpiece speaker for stereo, and even if the speakers aren't designed for that output they are louder than the X which packs pretty decent speakers. This is the mod that gave me the idea: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/themes-apps/mod-stereomod-xz-v1-1-t2835995 @monivan

Files should be different on your device. I no longer have the X, nor the X Compact, so this mod could not work.
Use the guide instead, it's pretty easy to make the modifications on your own. All you need is ES file explorer or something similar. Always keep a backup ready to flash.

Usb Dac gain control

My Usb Dac dongle control app seems to be working with the U11 now. I specifically support the HTC adapter.
If anyone is interested:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/themes/pixel-2-usb-audio-control-t3704024
Works well. Thank you.
Question though, once you adjust the dac gain is there any way to make that adjustment permanent?

Absolutely, and you can have multiple settings depending on headphones/use cases.
See the OP about half way down:
The headphones screen transfers to form entry to set up various headphones you may own. If you know the specs, the app will calculate the Spl (but there is an issue with the Google dongle calculation, it's off by a few dB, Dragonfly is spot on). More importantly the initial Dac gain (in percent) and android volume can be entered, so when you replug, the app will start with those settings. It remembers the last applied headset setting on reboot. So if you liked a dongle gain of 32 of 64 (same as 87 of 175), that's 50 percent. Sorry about the lack of uniformity, but the dongles all have different gain numbers.
The list of headphone entries lies below. A single click chooses the parameters for the listening session(start vol, gain, etc) and will remain for the next Usb insertion as well. To delete an entry, long press on it.
If you get stuck let me know.

I have installed V4A yesterday and tried the gain option to the max but the difference in volume is minimal, is this usb dac gain app using a different way of boosting the gain and so it gives a better result?
Also silly question but is it Oreo compatible?

I have not used Viper so I can't tell you how it works.
This app is using Alsa, tinymix to directly control the Dac.
It is 8.1 compatible, meant for Magisk rooted devices.
And for not rooted devices? Is just what I was looking for but without root.
Anyway, thanks for the app.
Tried it during the weekend, really nice app and the boost is more than welcomed, now my U11 sounds 99% as loud as my ex HTC 10
I am just waiting for dolby to be as refined as on nougat to get the perfect sound quality.
If there is something to say, it's the UI of this app that should have lets say clearer menus like ''save config as'' for example

[MOD] S9/S9+ - TWRP+MAGISK - Volume Gain - Exynos&Snapdragon -ROOT ONLY- (23/03/2018)

Hello Everyone,
I hope you all are great...
It is sad that the thread got 1 Star rating before even getting the chance of doing something good, well I'll fight my way up...
Snapdragon doesn't have Root, but hopefully in the future it will...
This thread isn't for how to TWRP/Magisk,Bootloader unlock or Root...
PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR FEEDBACKS IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THE MOD...
Don't Forget to say :good: THANKS :good:
EXYNOS: I have made SoundMod Magisk Module by Modifying mixers_path.xml & mixers_gain.xml provided by mkc1130 via his system dump...
SNAPDRAGON: Waiting for either system dump or someone with snapdragon device
XDA-Forum-Moderator @TheMadScientist have reopened the thread, thank you...
Download below:
Google Drive - Samsung Galaxy S9/S9+ - Volume Gain - SoundMod
!!! ALWAYS MAKE BACKUP OF YOUR FILES BEFORE REPLACING THEM !!!
If you didn't, no worries I have Attached Original Mixers as Backup (EXYNOS & SNAPDRAGON <-- snappy coming soon)...
first get ROOT :laugh: then proceed below
You can Use it with MAGISK
or
Flash it with TWRP, Snapdragon can use Flashfire (Snappy coming soon)
or
Just extract the MANUAL and place the mixers in your system/vendor/etc (since you chose Manual, make a backup, even though I put original mixers online) & set permissions to 644 (rw-r--r--) ...
reboot...
Let me know if you face any issues...
SNAPDRAGON MOD Status:
Not yet, not yet, maybe in a month or two ... or as soon I get the files, BOOM it will be here :victory:
EXYNOS Module Status: being tested
V1 - > Initial release, Tested & Stable...
VERY VERY VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE:
READ TO THE END...
This MOD shouldn't be used with any Equalizers, until it has been tested, even though I used MAX default values Available in the mixer, I don't want your brand new phone earpiece to be blown...
After installing the MOD, mute your phone, play a music, gradually increase the volume level till you reach the max, while doing that if you notice Any Noise/crackles/unclear sound from the earpiece, STOP increasing the volume, decrease it and report back please so I'd adjust the volume level...
Volume Adjust
(I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE):
SNAPDRAGON: to Adjust: (coming sooooooon :silly
EXYNOS: to Adjust in mixer_gains.xml:
Code:

<ctl name="SPK Analog Left Gain" value="15dB" />
<ctl name="SPK Analog Right Gain" value="15dB" />

<ctl name="HPOUT2L Impedance Volume" value="107" />
<ctl name="HPOUT2R Impedance Volume" value="107" />
<ctl name="HPOUT2L Input 1 Volume" value="32" />
<ctl name="HPOUT2R Input 1 Volume" value="32" />

Values for the speaker:
15dB is the default and from what it seems the earpiece should be as strong as the speaker to be able to have equal value, but I'd still say be cautious...
In many cases, the increase is safe up-to 6dB anything above that is Dangerous... 6 may look small but in terms of Sound, decibels are measured on a logarithmic scale..
say we have 10 dB and 18dB, the percentage from 18dB to 10dB would be about 83% sound decrease...
now back to the value, it looks so small, 15 dB is barely hearable, yes, but that's not the actual value but additional value...
in other words, 15dB+ to the current Volume...
Values for Headphones:
Gradually Change value="32" to whatever you desire upto 60, SAFEZONE is 45, if you hate yourself and ears, go above that :silly:...
as well value="107" upto 140, SAFEZONE is 120 as I said if you hate go up :silly:...
SAFEZONES are Approximated by me, So Gradually increase your volume to the max, make sure the sound is clean, don't set it to the max limit, some music are amplified by default, which playing them will damage the speakers, just be reasonable...
Don't Forget to say :good: THANKS :good:
Again I Say Please, your Feedbacks are important for futuristic updates to improve the MOD...

Doesn't say earpiece but now I know what DualSpeaker means in the mixers...
Speaker mono left... Speaker mono right...
I was confused why separate them...
Thanks for the link...

It uses the ear piece for one, and bottom for the other. This is kinda useless, to be honest.

Only those who owned or seen the demo phone can tell if it's using the earpiece...
I believe there is a speaker at the top and another at the bottom...
if it turns out to be useless, then the MOD will change into something else, but that will be when the device is released...
At least appreciate my efforts, even if it was little instead of criticizing...

I have updated my thread, if the MOD turns out to be useless and my efforts are gone with the wind (unfortunately because I didn't read *sigh*)...
The MOD can be changed into adjusting Volume and other inputs/outputs of the phone... :fingers-crossed:
