Disable on screen keys for pie control? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I searched all over and cant find an answer. I tried adding "qemu.hw.mainkeys+1" to build prop but got nothing. I want to utilize the full screen and I am used to gestures from my blackberry q10 so I thought this would be perfect. Thanks!

I am assuming you are already rooted. You can install the GMD Auto Hide Soft Keys app. Works nicely, but you have to buy the pro version to unlock dinner of the features.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gmd.hidesoftkeys

Try looking for qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 in your build.prop file

You mean it should already be in their? I couldn't find it. I tried adding that to the end of the list but it didnt do anything after rebooting.

I added it to my build prop and it worked. I'm using lmt. It won't start up by itself though, or I haven't figured out how yet. Also make sure your keyboard didn't auto correct the words.

Would being s-on have anything to do with it not saving? I am rooted and everything but havent got around to getting soff. I add "qemu.hw.mainkeys=0" and reboot and nothing happens.

it seems like adaway doesn't save after a reboot either so I assume this has something do with s-on. I wasn't going to soff until cyanogenmod or something was available. So if anyone reads this, is that the issue?

its not saving because of system write protection, not s-off. If you have root already, there is a module the Original Android Development section that you can push to phone and setup script to disable the protection, allowing those apps to save after a reboot.

Thanks for the input. I guess I need to wait for a rom or something to come out for sprint because it seems for the buttons to dissapear, the phone needs to be rebooted which then reenables the write protection.

Nand backup as in from TWRP? I just found ViperOne ROM and flashed it and didn't make a backup.
If only I checked the thread sooner. I still can't get the write protection working and its annoying the heck out of me! I want pie!

Are you putting a 1 or a 0? I believe ยน is what hides the navbar. There aren't any modules you could flash to disable write protection? Idk if the ones in the m8 section are usable on sprint m8 or not though

[Q]Is it possible to enable NFC at lock screen?

I love NFC and was hoping to use it a lot with the chips I bought. However unlocking the phone first is really stupid. Is there some way to enable NFC to work at the lock screen? So that the NFC unlocks it or something? It is kinda useless to me now. BTW I have root, but no recovery. I don't want recovery because of the triangle stuff.
why u dont just enable the NFC all the time? i dont think with NFC enable/disable the battery drain is noticable

I think you understood me wrong. NFC doesn't work when the screen is off/locked. That sucks, because I want to use it when coming home/leaving home and I really don't see the point in using this if I have to unlock it first.
Yeah,
Even the manual says it only works when the screen is unlocked.

I'm not trying. Also I just hope there is some way without recovery.
I really hope there will be an "official" way at some point.
If anyone is making a mod for this, maybe we can bypass the security concerns if there was a pop-up that requires you to approve the tag first, and be pre-approved for known tags. This way security is not compromised, and we also get the added convenience as well.

You can just extract the zip using something like rom toolbox, and then copy the files to there respective place manually, that way you don't need recovery.

Seconded, would love this for my note ii
I'm using this method which is for Note 2: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1999569
Works fine. Have set up a few tags and using it with Secure Settings, NFC Task Launcher and Tasker to do a number of things without having to wake the phone up or unlock first.
The only issue is that if you put your wallet in the same pocket as your phone, it will beep when it scans the the NFC chips in the credit cards
The method replaces the NFC service file in the system directory so at the very least you need root access.

Thanks for the link, looks promising. Now i just need to figure out how to install it without using clockworkmod...
Edit: Kindly, today, dr.ketan told us how to do it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36824840&postcount=1
All works for me, woohoo but whenever you use the browser or chrome, it crashes the nfc service
I'm experiencing that problem as well now. Also on launching YouTube service. It's annoying and makes it more inconvenient than having nfc screen off. There is another method through XposedFramework which is non destructive on the stock NFC.apk file. Might be worth a look?
www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/microdownloads/nfc-lockscreenoff-enabler.9/viewfile
But before that, I tried to restore my NFC to a non crashing version after doing the CWM method. I couldn't get my stock NFC.apk back, even with TitaniunBackup. Had to do a selective /system restore.

T-Mobile knows more than you think...

Got a notification today telling me my device health was good, and I had to check performance and this popped up:
I rooted 2 days ago and stayed stock. Anyone know how they know this?

When your phone is rooted, it knows, and so do the apps. That's why you cannot install isis wallet if your phone is rooted. In the about section in settings, it says if the device is rooted. If it says modified then it is rooted and any app can probably see that. Doesn't mean that tmobile knows it is, but the app does, and it may, or may not report this back to them.

Actually, you granted them access by accepting the permissions. Thats why i read that stuff. And being a developer, i can usually figure out what actions fall under the required permissions too.

They went commercial, now are a official corporation. They are looking to make that money, eventually. With features like a CM account, privacy guard, secure messaging they were getting ready for it. None of those are attractive though.

it seems more likely the purchase fees will be for the added features. Allcast is the perfect example. It's a CM app on the app store that has a time limit unless you pay money. That's their future. I can easily imagine a CM rom that is basically AOSP, and a collection of appstore apps that you have to pay money for to get the "Full CM experience". Of course, if you buy a CM phone (like the oppo n1), you'd get all those for free.
Or they just collect your data and sell it on their own kinda like Google

Can't keep bloat were removed?

I just went through the process of unlocking the bootloader and getting my M8 rooted. First thing I went to do was use titanium backup to get rid of all the apps I hate so much. Apps like, T-Mobile my account, name id, and TV. Other apps that seem to be stock with the M8 itself that I don't want as well, like: kid mode, parent dashboard, Twitter, Polaris, etc. I go through select them all and it seems to remove them no problem. After using my phone for the rest of the day I had to reboot my phone for some reason, when it powered back on all the apps repopulated! Any else have this issue or know why this has happen? I know it's not a major issue but I hate seeing apps on my device that I don't want or use. Thanks in advance!

How did you folks manage the OK Google from any screen?
I'm on O2 UK, totally stock but running Themer. I enable Google Now and the 'any screen' button is grayed out. I enable US English but still, it won't work and won't register OK Google even 1/3 times, where it needs to be trained. Even with the Google Now launcher, it's the same.

If you are rooted you can enable it to work on Sense6 using exposed framework an the "Ok Google for 3rd party launchers / apps (4.4+)" module.
If this is installed you can enable the function in Google searches settings by going to Google settings > Voice.
If this method doesn't work you could try to use UnleashtheGoogle.apk (see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/themes-apps/unleash-google-hotword-detection-t2803261). This is what I'm actually using on my M8 and works just flawlessly. I set it up after a downgrade to Google search 3.5.14 cause google removed the descriptions from the debug flag menu you otain by running UnleashtheGoogle (and believe ma you need those descriptions).

What about trying to S-Off with say SunShine. It will unlock bootloader and S-Off without data loss and you could go right away into installation of a custom recovery and rooting your device. The side effect is that you have to pay 25$ for the use of SunShine.

LG-G2 Knock on not working, hidden menu not as described

OK, so just to start, I'm still new to rooting, adb, roms, and all this fun stuff. I rooted my Nexus 5 six months ago because I got bored and just finished rooting my Ouya and putting cm11 on it. I'm not the greatest at this, but I can follow a good tutorial. Which is why, up until now, I've had little to no problems.
My wife has an LG G2 with my super awesome service provider, Sprint... Sprint wants to charge me $150 for this repair. I know it does not cost that much, and my wife does not want to give up her phone.
I'm sure you are all familiar with this problem. There is a section of the screen, about the shape and size of a search box in the top half of the screen, that since the last update, does not function properly, and *knock on* no longer works. I read all over the web, to access the hidden menu by dialing 5689#*980# . Which I did. But there is no option for touch screen test, or update touch screen firmware. LG is no help. Sprint is no help. XDA is my only option. Don't fail me guys and gals.
Oh, and my wife WILL NOT let me root her phone. She has a fully stock LG G2 for Sprint, and after this will hopefully have a fully functional LG G2.
Without root, you won't be able to replace the hidden menu with the Verizon one that does have the proper section to fix that. You may be able to root try the fix and unroot. This way she doesn't know.

Can you believe, after reading this, I thought hmmm, run it by her. I'd have to unlock the bootloader wouldn't I? And unlocking the bootloader wipes the phone. Can't really hide a brand new used phone from her.
I'd have used towelroot while the exploit was still available but alas, the problem wasn't here while towelroot was an option, but with a patch, came a hole.

Lol, she caved. I used stump, and hey, nothing deleted. So her phone is now rooted (surprisingly easy to get her to cave), I download the hiddenmenu.APK and moved it over to the app folder and ran the required adb command in terminal emulator. It did its duty. Nothing changed. When I access the hidden menu, its still the sprint one. Help?

Good news, got it to work. Here is what you need to do.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95784891001613264
Here is the hidden menu I used.
From play store grab root browser.
Use it to go to system/app directory. Find hiddenmenu.apk and the .Odex file.
Rename both of the files by putting a 1 at the end. This way you don't lose the original. Now paste the file which is above in the same directory.
Fix permissions to read, write, read, read.
It will look like this.
Rw
R
R
Save.
Reboot, system upgrading.
Phone, dial 5689#*980#
Go to hw device test
Touch test
Bottom of menu will be touch firmware upgrade
