What is this shortcut? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys...for the life of me I can't find a setting for this...in Venom Tweaks long press Home is tied to "Menu button" for me, but this is not that...
When I hold home button, I get the hourglass icon on the display...when I run it it opens Audio Control...
What is that shortcut used for and how do I customize it?

Edit, Ah I see what you mean. By default that is Google now. Looks like you set it to seacrh. I am not sure which setting it is to change that.

That's to launch Google Now. By default it goes to Google Now, anyway. Some apps seem to be able to "take over" that gesture. I'm using Screen Lock for that instead of Google Now.
If you want to restore it to default, then you'll have to clear the defaults in the App Manager for that Audio Control app. But there isn't a set way to customize it for other things, as far as I know. Must be the way certain apps are coded...

Thank you very much!!!

How to kill Rosie (touchFLO aka SenseUI)

For those of you who dont like the SenseUI...
Last night i was playing around with my brother's new galaxy and installed aHome Lite (free from android market) to gain extra screens for him to use. I then decided out of curiosity to install it on my hero (this will probably work on all ROMs but i have a pre-rooted 2.73.405.5 ROM ala Modaco just for the record)
Those who have used open home or ahome will know that after installation the the home key brings up the option to choose what home panel to use, same thing happens with the hero but not only does it bring up TouchFLO and aHome options but also the standard Home option.
Simply uninstall aHome and your stll left with the to remaining options, 'Home' and 'TouchFLO'. By clicking on 'Home', you will get the default android home screen, simply kill the TouchFLO process in Taskiller (once inside the default Home interface) and voila
I'm not sure this has already been discovered...if so mods please delete this thread.
Peace.
i want to customize the app/dialog which is displayed when pressing home key (normally touchflo starts, but as we can see this can be modified).. any1 knows how to?
go into settings->Applications->Manage. Scroll down to TouchFLO and go into it then click on "Clear Defaults". Now press home button and it'll give you the option to choose which one to go to and you can also tick the "Use this as default" or whatever it says.
thx but this is not what i meant.. i have another app, which should be displayed after a long press on the home key..

longpress home only shows recently started apps. i don't think there is a way to modify that behavior yet.
for those using multiple home apps i would recommend Home Switcher. useful little app
But surely the recently started apps are also the currently running ones too
I'm just thankful the press and hold of Home actually does what it should now and act as a switcher.
It still acts as "apps currently running" for me.

I would like to try this, see what the Hero looks and runs like with standard Android interface.
If I do, and I want to return to the standard Hero setup, do I just reselect "Use this as default" when selecting TouchFlo after pressing the home key?
there must be the ability to change the behaviour of long pressing home key, since at least on rooted phones everything at software level can be modified..

Yup, thats right. If you do find u have accidentally set the Android interface as default, just clear the default the same way you had with the TouchFlo from the 'Manage Applications' menu.
Peace.

How do you know and why there are always max 6 of them ? You think, but for sure this is a list of last used applications ... try to kill some of them and see the list - they are still there.
What I was thinking is a "short home press" usage, which has no function if you are already at "home" ...
Actually I wanted to write "apps recently run".
People claiming they changed it to "apps currently running" with the new update but I am not sure if that's the case.

Decrease Multitasking Menu Delay?

Been searching around, but couldn't find anything directly on this issue--
Is there any way to decrease the time that you need to hold the Home button to get the multitasking menu to pop up? As a side note, I've already disabled animations in the Developer Options, which helps to cut the time that it takes for the multitasking menu to become usable.
Thanks in advance.

well idk if this will be useful, but just use a gesture on a launcher to open up the multitasking menu. I didn't like how long the delay was either so now all I have to do is pinch n zoom with apex launcher and it opens it up.

Disable S-Voice if you're not using it , it adds about half a seconds to long press waiting for double click action.
Its under S-Voice settings menu , and or just freeze the whole application.

I've been considering that, but I generally don't like mucking with launchers. We'll see, though--thanks for the suggestion.

Do you mean disabling the double-tap to launch or the entire application? The former doesn't seem to impact the multitasking menu launch delay, and I'd rather not go with the second option.

no problem I hope you find a solution!
Anyone have additional ideas on this? Thanks!
I read that Wanam was working on a "no home button lag", coming son I guess.Keep an eye on the dev forum during the week to see if it pops up. I know it will sooner or later.
The JB roms we have have virtually no delay for the recent app window.
'Button Savior', I liked it so much I ended up getting the paid version. There is a free version to try. This allows me so much control without having to beat up my hardware buttons. Even the volume. Use it with a different launcher or not. It works either way.

I think that was applicable only to short-pressing the menu button (disabling double-tap to launch Siri gets rid of this delay anyways), and not the long-press Recent Apps menu, unfortunately.

[Q] How to make home button long press shorter? (touchwiz)

Is it possible to change the delay on the home button long press to bring up the task manager more quickly in touchwiz? By default it feels frustratingly slow!
I want to keep the S-apps so I am not interested in a different home manager.
Thanks
Here the little known solution.

Please here me out as this involves installing Nove launcher. Something you stated you do not wish to do.
Install Nova launcher but after pressing the home button choose TouchWiz "always".
If you now long press the screen and choose "apps & widgets". In there somewhere is a widget called Nova launcher. Long pressing this to place it on the screen invokes a menu that actually belongs to the Nova launcher where you can choose "Recent apps". This places a recent apps shortcut on your screen which open instantly.
This obviously does not help if you are not on the home screen and will jump back to a previous app. In such situations you should use the best app on the market for multitasking which is called SwipePad. You need to purchase the "recent apps" add on ftbut it's worth it.
Hope this helps.
I wish S-apps (especially the S-Planner widget) worked with third party launchers. Touchwiz is smooth and fast but the grid is simply to limited and no full screen annoys me.
download taskmanager app from samsung appstore...put it on homescreen
Disable double press of the home button in S voice.
Whenever you press the home button it waits to see if you double press it before deciding that you only intended to press it once.

Thanks for these tips, swipepad looks very interesting!
Also I didn't realize that the pop-up S-Note still worked with Nova Launcher, so I may keep Nova anyway (I think I can live without S-Planner...)

Try a different launcher such as Nova. You can assign the button to perform the action you want. Plus, at least for me, a scrolling dock is great. If you get Nova Prime you can also add gestures to perform your preferred action. There are others that do some of that too, but I have ended up sticking with Nova...
Good luck!

From what I can tell it is the always running s-voice app that intercepts the home press and so it waits for a split second for the 2nd home button double tap. It is not some function built into the system that can be hacked to something else. If s voice is disabled, the home button speeds up but there shouldn't be anyway to use double tap unless another app such as one of the 3rd part launchers is used. Maybe some one could make a mod of some sort to watch home button press and activate on a double tap for those who don't want to use a custom launcher.
personally i wish a double tap went directly to a google voice search
This is an option in S-voice settings . It's enabk d by default, but can be disabled. I've disabled S-voice on my phone altogether, so I can't remember exactly where it was. However, if you hit the menu button while in S-voice, you should see a lot option that says something along the lines of "open/launch S-voice by double tapping home key".
It will make the home button respond faster, however it won't launch the running app selector.
But, you can still launch the selector by doing a long press of the home key.

Adding Hardware button shortcuts

I'm looking for a tool that can assign shortcuts or the likes, by long pressing one of the hardware buttons.
(Like Long pressing home opens recent apps and longpress power button opens shutdown menu.)

Thanks for the input, but it stays up, Taking RAM & Battery. I was looking more for a sort of System edit to make it work, without having an app open all the time.
Else I'd just use swipe opener.
