So, my 3 yr old was watching what does the fox say videos on my i317, (yes that's the first problem, I know) and he apparently did something to my phone, but I have no idea what he could have done to get this to happen. The phone doesn't boot loop, it actually boots up just fine and gives me the 'apps upgrading' notification and then continues to my lock screen. Sometimes I am able to get past the lock screen and my notifications start popping up then the phone will auto reboot. It just does this over and over again. So I popped out the battery and put my backup in. Used my backup for about 2 days before getting sick of the phone shutting down at 25%. I believe this battery issue was caused by falling asleep on top of my phone while it was plugged in and screen on for about 6 hours.....verrryyyy hot when I pulled the battery after this. Anyhow the phone acted fine except for it shutting off when it's showing a fairly high percentage. So today, I pop that battery out and put the good one back in and the phone started doing this...for lack of a better term....reboot loop again!!! How can the battery replacement put the phone back into whatever state of error it was in?!?! Bottom line is, what does the fox say will kill your devices and Ylvis are the spawn of satan.

Could it be the batteries aren't connecting to the terminals tightly?

Well, something very odd just happened to my samsung focus (at&t) when I rebooted it. After the samsung screen shows, a pure red screen shows up for about 2 seconds and then it goes black. when I push the power button (or hold it) it simply goes back to the red screen again! Naturally, I thought to battery pull which simply put it back onto the samsung screen only to then go back to the red screen again.
I then thought 'maybe this is some sort of glitched state that it is in (it does seem to be stable in this state of redness, the capacitive buttons seem to give haptic feedback when pressed and the power button turns the screen off and on) so I decided to battery pull again and then connect it to my pc to see if it would detect that the phone was in this special "mode". after the battery pull, the phone booted back as normal??? It had about 89% power according to the battery percentage app when I rebooted??
it is fine now, but WTF was that anyway??
EDIT: ok, now it gets weirder, I got it to go into this state and quickly connected my usb cable to the computer and... zune pops up and it goes to that screen with the phone wanting to sync, but the phone being grayed out?? when I dragged a picture to my device, IT STARTED TO SYNC WITH DEVICE! It didn't even get an error and, after a successful reboot to the actual phone, THE PICTURE WAS ON MY DEVICE??? oh, and btw, it boots insainly fast when it is in redscreen mode...
i am now seriously confused beyond all hope
happened to my omnia 7 yesterday.
Just as well since i was going to flash the new rom anyways (and i did.. hasnt happened yet)
I think...it happened when i took my sim out.. i put it in and dont think it happened.
Might have to do with samsung. Other than Dell, Samsung has proven to be the weakest OEM in terms of hardware/software/firmware reliability.
I had this after I tried the 16Bit gradient hack. Setting the values back to 16 solve the red screen problem.
Wow... Ur right! Thanks for the fix =D
Sent from my mailbox
it is related to the 16 bit banding reg hack. It has been discussed/mentioned in that thread several times...
Has happened to me 3 or 4 times in the last month, ever since I changed the values to fix the banding on my Samsung Focus.
Just yank the battery and restart, hasn't been a continuous problem for me, and definitely a small trade-off to get rid of banding, IMO.
Same over here
Now that you mention it. I have the same RSOD problem with my Omnia 7 after the 32 colour bit hack. In my case it will happen after I have switch the phone off for the night and switch it back on in the morning. It's fine when the phone is switched off and on again.
So I recently installed CM 10.1.2 on my S3, and everything worked perfectly for a few days. Yesterday though, my phone started acting strangely (lag when turning screen off, registering phantom input, etc) and began rebooting every few minutes. At some point, it ran out of battery - and now I can no longer boot past the CM loading wheel screen.
I can't boot to recovery, and I don't think my phone is taking charge (from my computer or a wall outlet), and the farthest I can get is the loading wheel - sometimes it only gets as far as displaying the Samsung logo, or the Galaxy S3 screen with the android dude at the bottom.
I'm still covered under warranty, and would love to take it to the store for a replacement (I've had battery issues prior to this), but the fact that it can get to the CM loading wheel means that they might figure out that I've rooted and whatnot. But I can't get to recovery to flash a stock image, so...what can I do?

Your best shot is to either borrow someone's S3 battery or buy a battery pack. Use that to restore your phone back to stock (unroot) and then you can go to the store for replacement.

So turns out battery isn't the issue, I used a wall charger to get it to full charge. I can get it to the download mode confirmation screen, and can press volume up to confirm - but my phone reboots soon after that.
Recovery isn't really possible either, I can see the blue text in the upper right but my phone reboots after that as well.
My phone will often show an empty battery icon with a little refresh icon in the middle; does this indicate that it doesn't see the battery as charged (even though it is)?

Yeah I've been doing some research into the issue...
I've noticed that my phone automatically boots when I put the battery in, and that it'll do a quick vibrate when plugged in to a power source (outlet or computer) but won't turn on.
Apparently the phone isn't supposed to boot automatically when the battery is put in, and this could be the source of the random reboots - I think if I can get the rebooting under control, I'll be able to get into download mode and fix it all. But I'm not sure how to do that. Maybe the power button has gone bad, as it also doesn't usually respond when I try to use it to turn on.
If there is a problem with the power button, does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?

Mine does the exact same thing where I have to pull the battery and when I put it back in it automatically starts up and when I go to download or recovery it turns off before I can do anything
Sounds like power button issue.
I was having the same issues (random reboots, boot loop, powering on when battery put in, reboots in download mode and recovery)
This is not an easy fix. I ended up pulling the power button out and just setting my screen to time out after 15 seconds. Sucks but it works now.
If I ever need to turn off or hard reboot, I stick a pin in the power button hole and push down on the button.
Really turning me off on purchasing future Samsung phones

The power button is a common issue for these phones.
I have an odd problem with my phone.
All of a sudden the phone would automatically shut down and reboot when it's not plugged into a charger.
IF FROM BEING POWERED OFF
It shows the LG logo, stays there then shuts down and reboots to do the same thing over and over again.
IF POWERED ON THEN CHARGER REMOVED
it will stay on for a random amount of time, but not more than a minute. it will function properly for awhile then shut down, reboot and do the same thing as above.
IF WHILE BEING CHARGED
it works normally. i can do anything on the phone like theres no problem.
even stranger:
i did a factory reset, and it did so without a problem. when it finally rebooted and it shows the first few options (language and accessibility) when setting up the phone, it stays on for a long time - as soon as i touch the screen though it powers off and reboots again. i was able to set things up again while the phone was plugged in.
now i cant use it without the phone being charged.
*additional note:
it may be related but this started the other day when i went out for my daily jogging routine. I usually keep it in my front shorts pocket while i listen to music. about 40 minutes in and i realized my music stopped - when i checked the phone it rebooted by itself. maybe it got wet by a bit? when i took it out of my pocket it was pretty dry though - it wasnt like it was dunked in a glass of water or anything.
I checked online and some have reported having the same problem and changing batteries worked. i just dont want to waste money on something that might not even fix the phone.
You need a new battery i believe, had a problem like that with a family members G3 - battery replaced, fixed - otherwise it would turn off randomly/when doing anything that is considered intensive (touching the screen counts)

just saw your reply now, thanks for taking the time to reply.
i did a lot of research when the problem arose, tried factory resetting, switching roms (to stock and custom) and nothing worked - asked around and it seems it WAS the battery all along. now it works perfectly and it lasts much longer than before.

Hey, I had exactly the same problem. Did everything but no use. Then i changed the battery and voila no restarts or power shut down since 4 days.
Hello, i faced a serious problem this evening, just after i finished a call phone, the screen of the phone went Blue and then it went off, i started to put it on again and then it showed the screen with LG and then it went black no boot at all. i removed the battery and i tried again and still the same, so i tried to remove the battery and put it again and plug it with the computer, it went on with charging battery and then suddenly went to blue screen again.
So i tried to put the recovery mode with power down and on/off and it worked i got the recovery mode screen with factory reset but it was only with factory reset, i tried it and then i put yes and it reboot and then after LG screen, it went black again....
so i tried to put download mode with usb cable but it wont, always i got the blue screen. what should i do, where is the problem exactly for people who had the same problem ? the batterye ? the motherboard ?
anyone to help ? i changed the battery and it wasnt coming from it, and the phone showed others anormalies like sometimes u can charge the battery and you see the % and sometimes it goes blue screen and shut down. anyone had the same issue before ?
My LG G3 randomly started giving this problem for 3-4 days till it went completely bad. It just wouldn't get past the Blue Screen. Since I had to take a backup before taking any further action, I have been able to get it up and running for very short durations by keeping the cell phone in the freezer for an hour or so. Yes. I am not kidding. After it freezes, I can get it up on about 5th or 6th attempt. Sometimes even more. Be mindful that the battery is now showing a red humidity marker due to the freezer.
I am thinking of asking LG to repair it. What a piece of crap. Its only 18 months old for me.
So a few months back, my phone had bootloop like symptoms, but i was able to access it for a few seconds, and after that it started freezing up and restarting, until it "bootlooped". I could enter the power + volume down menu, but rarely in the recovery mode. I hat to keep the phone OFF a few minutes/hours. I've reset it and tried multiple OTA's at that time, no luck
Now, after a few months, i tried again, booted up the phone, set it up like a new phone, it worked for a few minutes, after that it started freezing up again. The battery was 15%, than 4% than 32% (after every restart)
Now, i managed to sideload the latest OTA, the phone is in the previous newly setup phase, and ifi leave it charging (via laptop usb) and lockscreen it took about 5-6 minutes before it started restarting, and again, the battery indicator started to show 5%, 18%, 46% and back down to 14% after the last restart.
i've seen some similar topics here, that said that after a battery change it was usable again, but with no RMA possibilities, and on a tight budget, i would not like to invest in a new battery and service, just for it to be some other hardware malfunction. So if there is anyone able to help, i would really appreciate it.
Thanks
Hey are you still around? I think this may be a issue caused by the emmc chip itself. I bought a pixel for $12 from a guy who was just trying to get rid of a phone (with almost same exact issues of yours). Some people are saying because power button is stuck but that's silly because power button works perfectly fine in bootloader mode.
