First of all backup all data which u need like contacts.
Go into recovery.
Do a full data wipe. Clear dalvik cache also.
If you are using CWM go to mounts and storage.
Format cache, preload, modem and what all stuff u see except sdcard1.
Always take care that you know what you are doing.
If you are using Philz recovery, there is an option like Clean to install a new ROM. This will format all those directories necessary.
Then install CM11. I believe you had downloaded the full ROM, not the delta update.

Right now on sorcerey ROM with its own custom kernel
Did you factory reset (or wipe data) prior to flashing the ROM?
Yup I always do that. Always
Sounds like you're restoring the same "wrong" system data with Titanium Bkup on every rom you flash.
good day.

You say you install system data? What do you mean by that? Are you using something like titanium backup?
My guess is that there is something wrong with your ROM install procedure though, since this problem persists across multiple ROMs. If it were just one app, or just one ROM then the problem could be app or ROM related. But when there are multiple apps, and multiple ROMs that leads me to think this.
Perhaps you can use logcat to find the problem, if you are sure your installation method is good.
I had the same problem when i installed ParanoidAndroid rom.
Then when i flashed sny other rom systemui always was crashing.
The only way out of it was to flash stock image with full wipe.

Cannot open gallery

Hey everyone,
I recently flashed jedi invasion 5 rom to my tmobile galaxy s3. For some reason I can't seem to open my gallery, it tells me I don't have enough space, however, I have plenty of space in both my internal memory and my 32gb sd card. Any help would be great, thanks
What were the steps you took in flashing the rom, we need a little more info to help you out.
Go into manage applications setting and clear app data for anything that has to do with media storage & gallery in the system apps list, then reboot. That may or may not help.

Sorry about that. So prior to Jedi invasion rom i was rooted with some stock rom. I basically went into clockwork recovery mode, i wiped user data, wiped cache, wiped dalvik, and then i flashed the jedi invasion rom. I have actually redid this process over a few times already, still however the gallery fails to load telling me that there isn't enough space. I have tried formatting my sd card, cleaning out my internal storage, clearing my gallery cache... all of those didn't help fix the issue either. Although, when i downloaded a different gallery from play store, that worked just fine.

It is strange... By wiping system do you mean wipe data/factory reset in recovery mode? Or is there another way you're referring to that does a more, for lack of better words, cleaner wipe?
I can't remember where it is under on CWM I'm a TWRP kinda guy. I think Mounts and Storage, and yes is't where all the system files are (the ones that aren't delete-able without Root Access). Like gallery and such. My guess some bad left overs from the other rom/gallery/camera aren't compatible with the rom/gallery/camera you have now.

You were right, I resolved the issue by fully wiping everything, data, cache, system, and even the internal sd. Thanks again for your help!

(Q) wiping and recovery

When I wipe system cache and dalvik and then format system... I still have the previous wallpaper I had from the previous rom.... is there something im doing wrong? I also get a (e) unknown path for volume when I select to wipe dalvik?

What is the entire process you are doing?
Are you wiping the system partition then installing a different ROm, without wiping data?
If so that explains it. The wallpaper is user data. So if you, for example, wipe the system parition of CM10 and install SlimBean which is based on CM10, the system will still look for the wallpaper in the same place. It will find your previous user data, and the wallpaper you had before will show up again.
However...don't do that. You're begging for problems. Not 'bricked phone' problems. But force closes and other settings conflicts from where the 2 roms arent' perfectly compatible.
This is my process for flashing a new rom
Step 1 reboot into recovery
Step 2 wipe system data
Step 3 wipe cache
Step 4 wipe dalvik
Step 5 format system
Step 6 flash rom
Am I doing it all wrong?

I also formatted my internal sd card if that matters
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
That's pretty strange. What recovery? Maybe try a different recovery or ODIN back to stock and start "fresh".
Not GS4 related but on my old GS2, TWRP would not wipe no matter what I did till I use a Superwipe script.
If you formatted your internal SD card, you shouldn't have any problems. What is the wallpaper that you see on both ROMs? Is it a wallpaper you downloaded? If so, where is it located? What recovery are you using? All this information should have been mentioned in your original post.

baseballfanz said:
That's I've never had ANY issues with flashing my roms . Never had residual files or wallpaper left over. I use cwm touch recovery as I seemed to have Some issues with Twrp. Here are the EXACT steps I take EVERY time I flash a rom. First in recovery I wipe data factory reset, then I wipe cash and dalvik cash, then I install rom from external sd card. After those steps I reboot and I've ALWAYS been good to go. These are the ONLY steps I take when flashing my roms. Ive had several different rooted devices and have ALWAYS followed these simple steps. I have a 64 gig sd card and everything is perfect with it. Only time I formatted it was at first instalation. Never had any issues. I've been doing it this way for years. Wipe data factory reset, wipe cash and dalvik, install from external sd card, reboot. I know some might have different ways but ive ALWAYS been successful with this method. You might want to try just these four steps and see if your issue still persists. This way has ALWAYS worked perfectly for me. It wouldn't hurt to give it a try. So only wipe data factory reset then wipe cash then wipe dalvik cash then install zip from external sd card and reboot. See how that works out for you. It should solve your issue. I really hope this helps. Best wishes. World's perfectly for me EVERY time.

Zedge saves to /sdcard/zedge. Backup your wallpaper to external, then (using CWM or Philz)
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache
format system
format sd card
wipe dalvik cache
Then flash your ROM. Backup anything you want to save on internal SD to external SD prior to formatting sdcard.

I'm not seeing you wipe user data at any point in this process.
Unless you mean the data partition when you say 'system data'.
Do this...
reboot to recovery
wipe and/or format...in one single step...system, data, dalvik, cache
flash new rom and any add ons (kernel, gapps, etc)
reboot
If the old wallpaper is sitll there then you've got a phone that's possessed by a poltergeist. Call the Ghostbusters.
Even with that Zedge app that you used to install your wallpaper, that shouldn't be showing up on first boot of a new ROM becaus ethe new ROM won't be looking for the Zedge app data until you install that app.

from cwm latest one, format cache, data, system, data/media
not just wipe data/cache, format all these.
flash kdz, again wipe from within OS.
if still problems, than something wrong with hardware.
Try another rom if problem is remain so it's hardware failure otherwise you are lucky and try cm11's next update,

Actually its coz original Nexus doesn't support SD card slot so CM11 AND Aosp based ROM don't support App to SD feature...S there is a away but its risky it includes partition of the memory and its bit risky coz if u fail it might create a Havok so don't try it unless u know what u do..Otherwise no way..
