I am only able to upgrade in May.
I will be getting the M8, I would like to know if there will be a dark bootloader mod like the one for the M7 ?
Does the HTC One M8 GPE have a dark bootloader ? I can't find any videos of the GPE M8 in bootloader mode - only the M7
I will be voiding my warranty the day I get my M8, can't wait. S-off - Viper ROM

I was thinking of getting the developer edition, however it doesn't have the silver version. So I am wondering if S-off and unlocked bootloader has been achieved for this device? Also, is this fully both AT&T and T-Mobile Compatible?

TL;DR, You can either get the unlocked variant and get the color you really want at the expense of your factory warranty,
Or get the dev edition and maintain the HTC warranty at the expense of having a color you don't like.
Yes, S-OFF has been achieved for most (if not all already) variants of the M8, the Developer edition and unlocked edition both included. The benefit to the developer edition is that the bootloader is unlocked from the factory, and you retain your warranty. If you buy the unlocked version and unlock the bootloader, your warranty is then void from HTC.

Probably not, the temp root methods don't work on anything except the Verizon M8. You could try it, though, as there's a slim chance it could work...ultimately there's a risk involved as not all M8's can be S-OFF'd. I was a lucky one

Not the OP, but I am not quite sure of the steps I would need to take to return from 5.0.1 GPE to stock. Could you help me out? Thanks!
Hello,
I have a HTC ONE M8X ( Asiatic ) with Android 6 ( update 01/dez/2015 ) , and I wonder if it is possible to change the ROM for HTC ONE M8 GPE 's own HTC ? For the Romans Original without GPE occupy much space the machine with things the HTC SENSE , then using the ROM GPE in theory it would be cleaner , fast and occupy less space.
Thanks,
You can flash a GPE ROM (see Development forum). That would have most of the benefits of GPE, but not OTA updates or the GPE partition scheme (smaller system partition, more user accessible storage).
But I'm pretty sure you can not run the GPE RUU (which would be required to repartition the phone). Its been confirmed that trying to flash another versions (M8) firmware onto the M8x will fail (and RUU includes firmware) even with s-off.

Mine is a M8x and it can accept any GSM RUU as long as the CID/MID match that RUU (S-Off required).
M8x is M8_UL (maybe you get confused with some China M8 which is M8_TL or M8_TD (something like that, can't remember))
Talking about GPE, to run GPE RUU .. only need to change CID to SuperCID and no need to change MID because MID 0P6B11000 (the original MID for M8x) is included in GPE original android-info.txt

A knowledgeable/reputable user confirmed that you couldn't flash other version's radios to the M8x (the Taiwan overclocked variant). Heck, now that I think about it . . . it may have been you?
I would have assumed that the same would hold true (fail) for GPE RUU. But I stand corrected.
Hello , I remove the root from my htc one m8 and I have received a security update for December it can't install maybe I flashed the wrong recovery so Anyone have the stock recovery of htc one m8 gpe 6.0 version

A rooted and previously rooted rom can't be updated. You need a NEVER rooted rom and stock recovery !

Hi everybody, I have a HTC One M9 with bootloader unlocked and TWRP is installed on it but with S-ON. It's running on lollipop 5.1.
i could not gain S-OFF because i have to pay for it through sunshine application. But the problem is i am living in SENEGAL so there is no paypal. All the rom i have flashed fail to boot. I would like to get back to stock rom, unroot and relock the bootloader so that i can get the OTA update of marshmallow. but I could not find any stock marshmallow online for my phone. i would be very happy if someone can help me with a stock firmware. Here are the informations about my phone:

BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED
S-ON
CURRENTLY RUNNING ON ANDROID 5.1

Hi mtraore21,
It looks like you've got your CID. Have you looked at Flippy498's Back-to-Stock spreadsheet? It looks like there are some RUU files that might help you.
An important caveat: you'll want to be sure you were flashing a RUU that was a lower version than the firmware you currently have - my understanding is that you'll damage your phone, or at least soft-brick it if you do that.

Have you tried the HTC website? I had a very similiar situation with my phone and downloaded the current ROM from there - an RUU file that all I had to do was double-click to run and it did everything else. My M9 was returned to "factory new" when it finished. I worried myself half to death but it was SOOO simple! Just find your particular "variant" from the website and select "download".
