It is because of the thermal protection. I have found the values to fluctuate quite a bit. My top score with antutu is 27474 on the 510, though I haven't tried in a while.
To get semi accurate results, plug in your device until a the battery charges, and while still plugged in, start the benchmark without doing anything else first. With luck the thermal protection won't kick in and you can be impressed!

Your absolutely right when I did my first bench mark it was on charge and it registered about the 1900 and thermal protection kicked in
You need to leave it of charge and have no heavy usage before testing as ATU has very heavy usage on CPU when testing.

Thanks for the explanation. I was wondering this also. Right after the install to 4.4.2 I received 27,000 (stock, not rooted.). Each benchmark after was only 21,000-22,000. I will try again right after booting while the tablet has been off for a few hours.

After upgrading to 4.4.2, and without doing anything on it, to improve the result, and he gave it:

Undervolting CPU - More battery...

Is it worth it?
How do I go about testing the stability of the phone ( I don't want to reduce clock speed )
If you want your phone to work perfectly without loosing speed it's not worth it ( change wouldn't be noticeable )

But really, what are your expected gains from doing this?

If you're not sure about what you are doing it won't lower performance it will probably result in a lot of crashing and error messages, I personally think it's not worth it for the amount of battery you could gain ( few minutes )

Well, I have had it undervolted with -150mv in a week or something and I haven't experienced any errors and crashes. I don't have it for the battery, but for the temps.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
I've been under voting my s3 747m for over two weeks now, between 75 to 300mv lower, at 1.89 I'm running at 1200mv, although I'm only running it at 1.5.
To test it I use Stability Test app, on scaling for 3 hour runs, it will stress all frequencies.
If you find a crash you increase the voltage at that frequency, BUT, the best way to test it, instead of using scaling test, use the burn in one, but manually set your speed and let it stress test XX frequency for a long period, this Is where I found the most of my crashes.
This isn't an easy or a quick job, it'll require a good weekend of mucking around. I have all my speeds down to 5mv increments instead of the stock 25 the apps give you.
But so far, I don't get voltage related crashes, only the random KP caused by cm10 bugs.
If people are interested in the voltages for this phone I could post them

[Q] Highest score on your antutu benchmark

What is your highest score in antutu using custom rom?
21,871 Mahdi rom 09-02-2014
@soulzero, care to share your settings with that benchmark score?like cpu settings etc...

My best is 26777. I'm on latest Mahdi, using Demetris kernel and the optimized dalvik. I actually tested several times on Mahdi, then flashed the optimized dalvik and tested. Got a good increase. Then flashed Demetris' kernal and tested. Again an increase. Averaged 23847 on Mahdi, 25647 with optimized dalvik, and the 26766 after the kernal.

I usually use the optimised files as they have been the highest scoring for me, though I check with quadrant.
That score I posted above was running Art as I changed over last night to see how it runs and ran antututututu out of curiosity.
When I get a chance I'll switch to optimised dalvik and bionic and do a few runs.

24761 run once, on the V510 out of the box using the sleekai kernel. Nothing else is optimized on my device. I really don't know if the stock kernel would be any different. Maybe. They still ramp up to maximum cycles during the test. Stock default is Performance and CFQ, whereas sleekai default is On-demand and deadline. I do think the deadline is better at handling scheduler requests. I get a smoother scroll action I attribute to the deadline scheduler. Also a way better battery life.
I don't really think benchmarking is a good way of judging the performance of the device within a 5000 point range, but thats just my opinion, and may be wrong. If your cpu heats up too much during the test, your device will slow it down.
Edit* Newest Antutu Benchmark on the 510 out of the box using the sleekai2 kernel is 27052
As a side note, The gamma problem has been resolved entirely using this kernel. No more need for Trickster.

As I said in another thread , the secret sauce is this http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/4-4-4-4-x-qualcomm-optimized-dalvik-t2546120
I'm guessing the v510 doesn't need these libraries for its high score but we do.
It's all moot for me. I'm currently using ART, which scores in between the two when benching, but in reality I don't notice any difference between the three approaches in daily use.

This is how I tested.
I installed Antutututu and quadrant.
I ran both several times to get base results.
Then I flashed the dalvik file and wiped dalvik and cache and ran both benching tests several more times and noted those results.
Then I reflashed my backup and right after flashed the Bionic file only.
I wiped cache and dalvik again, booted up and re-ran benches.
After noting those results I flashed the dalvik, so I now had both flashed. I wiped dalvik and cache again and ran more benches.
I've done this on cm11 and mahdi.

Just an addendum,
Whilst I have ran these tests, it has been for a bit of fun,
As I said in the Antutututututututututu thread, I'm currently running Mahdi and ART.
It scores around 4k less in antutu, but in practice I see no change in behaviour In my gpad.
I guess the gpad has enough power that the extra oomph that these files are supposed to deliver, is just a small ripple in real world use. Even if it's 4k in antutu.

Yeah, tried ART as well but didn't notice any sort of improvement. What i'm mostly after is solving the "thing" that makes UI animations a bit less then 60 FPS. It's more like its 30-60 FPS and one can definitely notice a drop here and there. My old Nexus 7 (2012) is more consistent in that regard and it's UI (stock, unrooted) actually responds faster to touch events which is a bit odd due to its old Tegra 3 processor and non-modded/rooted OS.

Ran a bunch of benchmarks. All in all it's way too inconclusive since the difference in average pretty much is in the margin for error (the highest average only differ around 1000 points from the lowest average).
I don't seem to be able to go beyond an average of 24.348 so it's odd to see some of you post scores that is almost 3000 points higher then that.

I would say your governor might be the cause : you are using OnDemand, have you tried swithching to Interactive ? In my experience, it would solve most of my stuttering launcher issues.
If you want better scores, you might wanna try Performance, but I wouldn't recommend it for everyday use.
I wrote a long reply last night and lost it so today I will do it again but a bit at a time
Ok as already mentioned I also prefer to use interactive and if the kernel allows then it's always interactive /row.
If row is not allowed by the kernel then I use deadline.
I would like to suggest that it's probably not just one thing that needs to be done, but a number of small tweaks that accumulate to achieve a better bench score.
Now some of these tweaks are only for benching whilst others will give you a zippier feeling tablet.
This would be a typical setup for me to bench and I'll point out which I used day to day to speed up my old N7.
First flash the dalvik and Bionic files (obviously not tried on the tegra N7)
After booting up go to developer settings and uncheck the three animation settings, then scroll down and check force gpu rendering. (this mod is good for daily use for a bit more zip, I used this on my N7 2012.
Next go into whatever app you use to adjust cpu.
Adjust the min and the max cpu frequency to 1.728 ghz (you may get reboots with the minimum set at this, so just dial it back slightly or increase the voltage value for 1.728 ghz)*this is most definitely not for day to day use *
Next go to the gpu governer and change the setting from ondemand to performance (I believe this has quite an impact and I reckon that it's a good one to try for day to day use)
It's worth spending a bit of time having a play with sd read ahead value.
I set mine to 2048, more from habit than any testing on the gpad. It is definitely the way to go on my phone but ymmv. This can be used all the time if you see a worthwhile difference.
To a degree I too stop some apps before benching but in the past I noticed if not careful this can be detrimental to antutu.
I use clean master for this as you can go into settings and modify the ignore list.
I think that is just about all that I do. I will update this if I think of something I missed.

Yes, with interactive i didn't notice better performance. In previous tests interactive actually always scored lower.
Sure - the performance governor can get better scores, but i'm not just after scores and ondemand or interactive should manage to score almost equal to performance when benching (within a 1000 point error of margin at least).

CPU after KitKat update

I just got flashed the stock root KitKat and I have noticed that my CPU isn't going past 1126 MHz when it is capable of twice that. In ROM Toolbox and Set CPU it clearly shows it can go to 2200 but it jumps back down to 1126. Is this just me or are others having this issue too?
Sent from my LG-LS980 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It's not an "issue". If your phone spent 100% of it's time (idle/active) at 2.2GHZ, it would be dead in mere hours. SetCPU has a section where it shows you how long your phone's CPU stays in what state (speed). When nothing's happening (screen off/stand by, etc) the CPU stays at lower speeds, and ramps up higher if more demanding stuff is happening (gaming, etc).
I understand that the problem is that my CPU won't reach its max speed and the sliders just revert and when I use a program like antutu to see my specs it says my CPU is only capable of 1.2 or 1.5 GHz. When I run a benchmark the CPU never surpasses those speeds to reach 100%. It is desirable to reach 100% in a benchmark but for some reason that doesn't even happen any more after KitKat.

Seems the secret is in the amount of open applications you have i.e processes running in back.
I made 2 tests with Antutu one was when I opened everything I have on phone, camera EVERYTHING, the next was after downloading the booster program Antutu suggests(Clean master + 1 Tap boost).
I attached the screenshots as well. With all open apps, I scored 42K, cleaned out, boosted and just having antutu run I made a whopping 37K
Yes, I'm well aware that my batter levels are low, don't know if it'll influence it or not. I don't really do these tests, first time on this device, was curious
I can redo again with full charged though it probably won't make a difference.

Redmi 1s low performance?

I just got my xiaomi redmi 1s from my local Lazada store. What i noticed first is that it gets really hot even from normal multi tasking usage. I downloaded the update and now the heat is more tolerable so i decided to let it pass . problem now is that the phone is running slugishly for a quadcore device. Animations are not fluid and multi tasking is quite slow. So i decided to check with cpuz and antutu and below are my screenshots.
With antutu i got only 11000 when i expected to get arnd 18-20k as per the reviews. And in tue cpuz it says that cores 2 and 3 has stopped. Although there was a time when all 4 were running at their own clockspeeds l, and once i saw that everything is marked stopped except for cpu 0 rendering the device to be a single core phone. Any thoughts?

Your phone is not fake, you must wait for kernel and install a kernel, you kernel have some problemes
I tried to factory reset in the recovery and turn off the phone and placed it in front of an electric fan to cool it down. (It was running hot at 50c or more already according to CPU temperature app.) Also I unplugged it from charger because I read that charging the phone usually slows it down to a crawl. And true enough, I got 20000 antutu score
However a while ago I got 17000 antutu while temp is at 40-50C. Is it because of the temps? Also is cpu temperature app from google play accurate in recording temps?

Ok will search for that mi flasher. As for cm11, im afraid that dl links have been removed for some roms for the redmi, i dont know why. I will still check today tho.
Update: this noon my temp reached 60C. I was outdoors then and i live in a tropical-climate Philippines so that must be the reason also for high temps. The phone became too hot it might fry an egg, so dsturbing in my pocket so i turned it off, removed the back cover and allowed it cool down.
Update 2: im also suffering with battery issues. I already charge twice today. In My first charge the batt went down by 20% in just 2 hrs. For 2nd charge, in 7hrs and 30mins the batt level is down by 70%(30% LEFT). I was only playing COC and D-day for 5-7mins tops.

Is this normal for our devices? Or is mine deffective?

Just an update: i tried to charge the phone while its turned off (straight frm 0-100% no interruption) and i noticed a slight improvement. I will continue to do this as people say you'd have to do this a couple of times.
Edit: i have flashed the thermal config file in this thread: (not the one posted in this thread, YET.)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2977910
Heating issues also reduced. Max is now arnd 55-57 but this only happens when im outdoors (extremely hot) and playng heavy games. I even play d-day w.o issues. I used trickster mod to freq lock between 300mhz to 1344mhz.

I dunno what to belive about your phone. Even with MIUI 5 v37 my phone not heating so much and now, with mokee temperature raise to 50 grd on the small spot near the camera whet I've play heavy games. I don't use thermal config but some tweaks inside governor and I use full range of frequencies.
Hmm. Could there be inconsistency with the manufacturing process of xiaomi? I swear at one point the device reaches temps that i would be forced to turn it off cause im afraid i might fry the innards.
Also i havent mentioned this but when i was running the unoffical mokee, the device went too hot that i can hear some slight sharp buzzing sound around the camera area (i think) when i place it near my ear. Kind of similar to the buzzing sound of my samsung galaxy charger that came with my moms s3 (if anybody experienced it with the samsung chargers) i dont know if this is a characteristic of electronics when it overheats as im no electronics major. One thing im sure of is that they dont have to produce that sound at all!
