Are there any ways to get my phone to use a different DNS while connecting over mobile internet. Maybe soe APN setting?
IMGUR images are now blocked which makes using reddit and digg.com useless.
Can't you phone them up and ask them to unblock it? Surely if it's a legitimate site they should have no cause for blocking it.
Yeah, I'm trying that route currently. The phone company follows the IWF internet watch foundation guidelines blindly. The IWF seem to class imgur as a child exploitation site. Idiots. They are the crowd who tried to ban Wikipedia.

Now let's come to the main issue.
Recently an anti islamic movie was upload to Youtube. Which creates alot of tension in the 3rd world.... Pakistan's government block the website across the Pakistan to protest against the video. And YouTube will remained close till the removal of that video (which ain't gonna happen like this).
As you all know that Pakistan is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Pakistan telecommunication authority hire inexperienced IT experts due to political pressures. These incompetent employees and government could not manage to block the YouTube properly at first. So PTA immediately block the IP of YouTube. But in doing of such impotent work by our ****ty government more then half of Google services become unusable in Pakistan. We can't connect to gmail account on our android and not even play store.
We can not download apps from the app store because of such failed action of our government.
As you know that YouTube is owned by Google. Yoiube IP is same as most of the Google's ip's.
PTA have blocked the IP so many Google services had stop.
In light of above explanation I need a work around on how open my gmail account and play store. Any help would be highly appreciated.
I know through proxy I can unblock the websites. But I,m unable to sync my gmail account through proxies because of the Google's high security. And I still can not download apps via market through proxy.
Give me a good suggestion. Any work around, any good proxy please.
Any modified Google play store.
I have galaxy nexus, galaxy note HTC desire and Asus transformer. All of them could not connect to Google services due to this blockage. And I know this problem had spread across whole of the android users in pakistan.
Refrain from political discussion or abusing thanks.

I don't think a workaround will work unless PTA lifts the ban or at least unblock ip's affecting google services. I have a galaxy note and I thought it was because of the custom ROM I was running. So I did a full wipe, nothing happened. Then I checked on my brothers HTC one X which was on stock and he was having the same problem. PTA guys are a bunch of ****ing retards. Thanks for starting this thread, I hope someone comes up with a solution. Btw, I started experiencing this problem yesterday while youtube was blocked a few days before. When did you first start experiencing these problems?
Well for websites I know there are sites I know you can use to mask what you are looking at, but I don't think it will work with services based in apps.

How are you trying to connect to google services, via WiFi or EDGE? If WiFi, then which ISP (PTCL DSL, Wateen or some other?) I see you're on Warid's network.
I'm in Karachi and my Google related accounts sync/work fine over wifi but have a problem over EDGE/2G. If you're trying to download apps from mkt I can only assume you use wifi for it (because on EDGE speeds it would take you forever to download any apps at all). PTCL is the only ISP that has a problem as far as I know. I know in Lahore and Karachi several isp's are working fine in this regard (Wateen, WiTribe, Worldcall, etc).
If you're trying to get google services to work over EDGE on Warid then you can just use gmail and market etc from the browser, which works fine. Only the apps themselves have a problem (like email sync which takes really long).

I,m from sialkot,Punjab. here all edge networks and ISP are having the same issue. I had tried Wateen, Witribe, and ptcl they all getting the same issue, i don't know if they are working through the same channel or not. i have tried edge over ufone, warid, mobilink. but still can't open the play store and contact syncs in gmail account on my android.
On my Gnex i,m running on Slim bean 2.5 rom, and AOKP on Asus Transformer. All of them are getting the same error.
if your play store is working good, i heard there are some apps in play store which can direct android traffic through proxy channel. kindly research on it and see if one of them can work for youtube app in android. i think that is possible. because if i modify my access point(wifi) setting in android, and set proxy setting to manual, and enter the proxy ip with port. i can access youtube and i can also sync gmail. but that channel only work for 2 or 3 min :/. i kept on changing proxies ip and ports. but not working

You might be able to do this using a VPN. Settings > More > VPN. You'll need to find a free VPN service that will give you the login information. I'm sure there's one out there but I don't know any off the top of my head.

Try this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aed.droidvpn ? DroidVPN free has a limit of 100MB a day which i guess is good enough for sync purpose?

I don't understand the problem, what issue are you facing? If you have a UBL WIZ Internet card, just login to play store, press buy on any app and enter your card details like you would with any credit card - your card number, the cvc/cvv code at the back the expiry date and your billing address - works fine here
Make sure you call UBL's phone help line first and give them your card number and confirm if you are authorised to make online transactions
EDIT: It doesn't matter if the price stated is in US$ or Britis Pound or Euros or Kuwaiti Dinars, UBL bank will convert to Pak Rs with their prevailing bank conversion rate and charge your card for the right amount automatically
FWIW, I used Witribe today (in Pindi) and Playstore works fine. PTCL is flaky - sometimes, yes, at other times, no. I'm on Mobilink (I think I need to update my profile) and I couldn't sync my account with Google the entire day.
So - it depends from ISP to ISP. Your best bet is to either use Onavo Extend - or Orbot (Tor) for Android... or another VPN solution.

I doubt you can get us content with the us credit card and amazon location change. With these tricks, you can download the apps but they won't work for example sling. To make sling or netflix work, you will have to use the service like unotelly dns etc which costs about $4 a month.
Hi thanks , im using unblockr dns service and have changed my dns settings , i downloaded Hulu plus from amazon for free , so i think it should work , if i choose a film to watch , it plays an ad for about 1 minute , then just get a black screen , do i nee to change anything in amazon account or aftv ? thanks

To get Hulu in the UK, you need a DNS service that can "trick" apps into thinking you are in US, which you have already, and you need to set up your fire tv with an Amazon.com US account. Once you download the app, you can set it back to Amazon.co.uk or any other region you like.
But the key sticking point is that you need a US registered credit card to open a Hulu subscription. Even if you select US when registering and put in a UK credit card, it won't work.
There are services that let you register for a virtual US credit card, but they do require a leap of faith in terms of how much you trust them. I have been using http://www.usunlocked.com/ for a few years now (not to be confused with Unblock-US, the DNS service provider). As I say though, I have had no issues, but I can't guarantee anyone else won't. You have to send quite sensitive info to prove your ID before they can open an account on your behalf (US law).
And their commission can be expensive so you need to factor that in. I used to use it mainly for Netflix and Hulu subs (before Netflix came to UK) and to rent movies from VUDU (app not available on Fire tv sadly). I hardly use it these days to be honest but if you want Hulu, you will need a US credit card.
Or if you know a trusted family member/friend in the US and work out something with them.
iii have a username and password for Hulu plus so should it work with unblockr dns service , it loads ok and plays an ad if i select a film but then get black screen , i set up an amazon.com account and selected USA but i got a warning triangle on my amazon.co.uk account saying that i had a device listed on the .com site , so i have cancelled the account .
Do i need to not open a .co.uk account and open a .com account and register the aftv , then download the app (netflix or hulu) from the .com site to the aftv ? then open a .co.uk account if i wish ? thanks
try some free VPN service maybe DNS is not enough? securitykiss.com offers free 500 MB a day has usa server so you can test it.
Also you gotta have root or router that can change settings and use VPN.

Apologies didn't realise you already have an active plus account.
I have no experience with Unblockr, but try it on a PC or Mac (change you dns there) and go to hulu.com. If you can play videos (not just the free ones) then there is something wrong with hulu app on fire tv and Unblockr. If you can't play videos, then there is something wrong with your account and/or with Unblockr.
I'm fairly certain that it shouldn't matter what Amazon account you have on your fire tv (US or UK), at least not for hulu. I have a US account and a UK account and any US only apps I downloaded from my US account work when I switch back to my UK account.
Also try patt2k suggestion of a free US VPN just to test if it's Unblockr's fault or not. Also make sure you change your dns to something like 8.8.8.8 (google's dns) before testing as sometimes VPNs and DNS services conflict with each other.

Actually apologies I should have been clearer. I do have 2 accounts, US and UK, with different emails, BUT to get a US apps on my UK account I just change my region on Amazon.co.uk to USA. Then I have access to US apps, download what I need, sync it, then switch it back to UK region. This is all done under the same account, with the same emails. When switching to US region, you need a US address, but you can one from google. Doesn't have to be a legit one and it's only temporary.
There is a guide here: http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-install-geographically-restricted-apps-from-amazon/
I was having a hard time paying for Hulu tho and got Unblockr. If It worked but I forgot to pay and since its for US I had to search for a long time to find a place that has Hulu gift cards that ship outside of the US and I found this site that ships outside of US with Hulu cards from giftcards2u .com . Im glad I searched this up and thanks for the advice here!
Hey there! watching hulu in UK might take some hassle. It took me a while to finally find an authentic website to watch Hulu. Finally now I'm at peace. Thank me later.
How to Watch Hulu in UK (June 2022 Updated)You must use a VPN to access Hulu in the United Kingdom. Hulu is a geo-broadcasting service that is only available to persons in the United States. If you want to stream Hulu in the United Kingdom, you'll need a reliable VPN. This tutorial will show you how to unblock Hulu in the UK the easy way using the top VPNs. For details visit this website
When using public wifi the 'Network login' page appears and I sign it as normal. For 99% of sites this works great and it remembers my login details from site to site.
However on Cisco web portals it doesn't remember the details. My old HTC would remember but it used Chrome for the Network login, the Nexus isn't using Chrome as such so I've no control over this.
I've search around and found a few other people with the same issue, I'm wondering it its a Android 6 bug / feature ? Does anyone know a fix ? Thanks
I used to always unlock bootloaders, install TWRP, flash clean Android and load up AdAway until my latest S20 acquisition. The intention was to wait out the 2yr warranty period and then do it until I learned that ad blocking was possible using the Private DNS setting.
Over the first days of using my new S20 I was really shocked at the volume of crap blasting at me that AdAway was blocking in the past, so trying out Private DNS was a welcome relief (dns.adguard.com).
It's only been a few days since I've done this and I just applied the setting to the wife's (stock) Huawei P20 Pro, and yes a large volume of ads are now missing, a sight for very sore eyes.
Just wondering if others have had positive and/or negative experiences using Private DNS for ad blocking. I saw Pixel 2s were rebooting but I'm sure the latest versions of Android would have sorted this by now. I haven't experienced anything untoward so far but I'm a very light user and only had the phone 4 days.
Works great for me! No more Blokada, DNS66, et al. Been using this since my Note 9.
Install youtube vanced and you're all set.
Tried dns.adguard.com before but some ads were still going through so i stuck to blokada, but now it seems to work fine, no more vpn icon
Used AdAway on rooted devices too ... with dns.adguard.com i had no problems while using it .... if you want, try this.. dns.keweon.center ..which i currently use...also excellent DNS
No need to use VPN Ad blockers.
Instead of dns.adguard.com use nextdns.io
Get free account and configure it as You want, with many filters full loging etc. It's better than AdAway.
Then You can set private dns to Your custom nextdns config.

Thanks for this tip.
I've just set it up after a week of quite successful dns.adguard.com ad blocking but I really like the enormous flexibility of nextdns.io and its (potential) threat protection, as well as the logging (in CH) and analytics. Reminds me of OpenDNS but with ad blocking as well!
I have recommended it to a friend with two younger boys, he might appreciate the content filtering side for them, but generally the one thing that has irked me about smartphones is the potential for accidentally landing on a new malware site even if it is unlikely to infect Android.
The problem with the any DNS or VPN based blocking method: Chrome will randomly stop functioning whenever I am connected to any wifi network.
It will just stop loading random sites, not show all pictures in Google Image search, not show anything anymore when you click back and forward or just stop loading anything at all.
Go to mobile connection, it immediately works. Disable the DNS/VPN blocker, it immediately works.
Reconnect wifi, it will work again for a while. Can be two days, can be ten minutes. It's completely random.
I am not able to figure out ANY reason why this is happening.
I know Chrome has its own DNS resolver and you should disable it when using DNS based blocking methods (disable async dns resolver and clear dns cache), and while this fixes the problem that not all ads are blocked in a reliable way, it doesn't fix the wifi connection loss.
Using DNS or VPN based blockers only cause problems in Chrome, no other app.
I know I could just switch browsers, its just that I use Chrome on desktop as well and like the synced bookmarks.
Does anyone have any idea why using a VPN/DNS based adblocker would cause Chrome to specifically stop working randomly only in a wifi network, but not via mobile?
I have had this issue over several devices and Android versions for years now and I can't figure it out.

just use Disconnect Pro instead, Adblock through KNOX.

Thank you for this! I missed adhell so much since it worked through Knox as well. Right now I'm running private dns on my phone from adguard and I'm going to use this app along with it as well.
Just go buy a Raspberry Pi Zero W and throw an SD card into it, install Pihole on it and VPN into your home network. Most modern routers have a VPN server built into them, Samsung phones all have a VPN client built in, and you can get a Pi Zero for $10 (or under $20 bundled with an MicroSD if you don't have one lying around from an old phone).
No root or special software on the phone end needed, and once the Pi is set up it's plug and play.

Chrome is purposely crippled to do this - there's even a dev flag to disable the behavior. It's the main reason I stopped using it and disabled it entirely. I went to Samsung's browser and have actually been really happy with it - the dark mode actually makes all web sites dark, even the ones that don't work with Chrome's.
Thank you.
Do you see any issues accessing very secure sites like banks thru the DNS blocks?

If the blocker is doing its job correctly, it shouldn't have issues with any legit site. This actually protects you since most of the blockers also block malicious domains so if you accidentally click a phishing link it *might* keep you from getting to it.
The problems you WILL see if that sponsored results in search engines will stop working, because they route through an ad site rather than directly to the thing you want to go to. Once you get used to ignoring the top few results in Google, it's not so bad. There's also the issue of sites that block you if they detect an ad blocker. Most sites aren't smart enough to be able to detect a DNS based blocker, but if they are you will either not be able to use the site, or you'll need to turn the DNS blocker off or whitelist the site while you do.

Yeah I stopped clicking the top search results a long time ago. I was an avid AdGuard user, but their app used too much battery. I changed my default DNS to dns.adguard.com and it blocks ads as well as their app, without the battery hit.
In 2017, I purchased two Adguard lifetime licences for $10/each ($20 total), one of my best purchased ever! Now the same license is $70/each.
Have not had a need to root and still no ads on our phones for years now!
