wp_mod: Module to disable system write protection
This is a kernel module that disables write protection on the system partition while running the stock kernel.
I do not have the Desire 816, I have the HTC One (m8). It should work on this device as well.
HTC changed the MMC_MUST_PREVENT_WP_VIOLATION code to make it much harder to crack. I had to redo the module completely, so this is experimental. In the past, it was a simple matter of changing a variable, now we have to replace a function in the kernel so it returns something different, causing the kernel to skip over the write protection code.
So far I have not found any problems.
DO NOT attempt to load the module after attempting to make changes to the system partition. It could end up corrupting the filesystem. If the module is loaded at boot, there should be no worries.
This module will probably need to be updated to load with future kernels when they are released.

I keep getting a 403 forbidden regardless of browser. I think it's an actual issue with Goo (I've experienced a few headaches hosting on there myself).
Do you happen to have a mirror?
Thanks!

Does anybody know if wp_mod.ko works on single SIM 4g version?
I've tried a few unsuccessful methods on trying to move wp_mod.ko to /system/lib/modules
TWRP isn't supported on my phone
Instead, used CWM + Aroma FileManager: managed to move wp_mod.ko to system folder but while changing permissions, the phone reboots.
Tried using file explorers: ES File Explorer, Total commander, some R/O to R/W app, but all the same result: phone reboots after moving wp_mod
Any ideas?
Also: phone is rooted, unlocked bootloader, busybox working, stock 4.4.2
Thanks

I'm pleased to present my repack of the stock ROM for the HTC Vision! READ THIS WHOLE POST BEFORE YOU START! No, really, it contains everything you need to know.
Remember that if you use this ROM, you do so entirely at your own risk!!
About MoDaCo stock ROM repacks
Unlike a MCR (MoDaCo Custom ROM) release, a stock ROM repack is as close to the stock ROM as possible. Only root / Superuser and an insecure boot image is added. The benefits of the repack are providing a rollback option in update zip format as well as providing an online kitchen to remove parts that are not required.
A MCR release of this ROM is also available!
Requirements
In order to use this ROM on your device, you must have a custom recovery image installed (Clockwork Mod).
THIS ROM SHOULD RUN ON BOTH THE G2 AND THE DESIRE Z!
Features
Repack of the 1.22.531.8 (OTA) ROM
Pre-rooted with su and Superuser Permissions by ChainsDD
Insecure boot image (ro.secure=0)
Changelog
Please see the post below this one for the changes in each release.
Installation
To install this ROM:
Download the zip file of your choice from the links below (or the online kitchen) and copy to your SD card
Restart your device in recovery mode
PERFORM A NANDROID BACKUP FROM THE MENU
Select the option to apply an update zip, and select the zip file you copied to your memory card
Upgrading
No wipe is explicitly required in order to use this ROM (unless you are coming from a 'Sense' ROM), however if you do encounter issues of any kind, it is recommended that you wipe your device and reproduce the issue before raising it here.
Downloads
This ROM is now available in the online kitchen - see the post below for details! In addition to the kitchen, a prebaked download is available.

It's impossible to mention everyone who contributes to the Android community by name, but to everyone out there who does great work and shares it with us all - you have my gratitude and respect.

Thanks, Paul. Looking forward to your SenseUI build for American Visions
Works perfectly. Very snappy. Using it with the ROM kitchen is a nice way to customize exactly the ROM you want. I used that to keep my old email.apk that doesn't ask for a alphanumeric password every time I want to use the phone.

Pual, I for the life of me can't seem to get this overclocked. I should be able to overclock this using the steps in the link below correct? Oh, and by the way I love the rom. I used baconbit, which was great until i found out I couldn't use my extended battery on it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=813681
I've done a total wipe and installed your rom and my app with titanium. Here's the link.
I've put the ota ko file in the root of the my sd. And ran the attached .sh files in gscript, but all i get is errors.
Edit: nevermind I see that the OP to the overclocking post no longer supports it. I guess ill have to go with the new kernal and hope it works with extended batteries. Thanks for reading.

Hello,
I would like to use cifsmanager apps but I see that our kernel doesn't have the proper module built in.
I just updated the kernel and modules using the latest available in the the kernel build service (following the incremental updates guide):
http://xdandroid.com/wiki/Incremental_Updates
but I'm not able to insmod the module.
I also tried to manually download the cifs.ko module and to load it telling to cifsmanager app where the module is, but I continue to receive the same error, no such device, like if the module isn't loaded correctly.
How can I solve this problem?
Thank you
Why not just use adb...? I don't see the need for CIFS.
If you can figure out how to get CIFS working, we can look about implementing it mainline.
Have you tried insmodding it after cp'ing the .ko file to /lib/modules?
ok thank you,
I tried to load the module using adb, but I think I'm using a wrong file because when I try to load it insmod return me the "invalid module format" output.
I'm using the kernel downloaded here:
http://zimages.googlecode.com/files/htc-msm-linux-20110914_084441-package.tar.bz2
somebody can tell me if is there a module that I can use with this kernel?
thank you

Didn't you just say it was some simple config flag?
Make use of that "recognized developer" insignia you throw around there and commit something . (Or at least post something to the ML!!)

btw, the kernel is modules-2.6.27.46-01356-gd4c73bd.tar.gz, maybe you should build a complete one? (well, i have never played with linux kernel...)

Assuming his patch is accepted, it will get committed mainline. It's a quite simple change to how the kernel is built.

I think phh had an issue with the patch submitted. I have a patch to commit soon so i can look into this. One question i have is how do yall plan to load the module? Does the app insmod it ? or does it expect the module to be built into the kernel?

I think people just want the module available in the 'modules`uname-r`.tar.gz' file. That way they at least have the option of insmodding it...(*.user.conf etc) who knows what they want to do with it afterwards - I guess access their phone on a LAN from their PC?
just want to mount my share folder from my PC to Android, so that i can use the shared files online without copy-paste (it'll be quite annoying by copy-paste, especially when you want to edit file, because you must upload it after editing)
in short, same as Caio, just want to use cifsmanager, and it says "no such device"

Is the ROM rooted or was your phone already rooted when you flashed it?
I already had that RUU on my phone (before the 2.3.5 update) and it wasn't rooted for sure. Back then I used the normal procedure for updating the phone but I don't see why it should be different to extract the ROM and flash it via HBoot.
As I said its not very special . The Rom is rooted (my phone is s-off). I put the extracted rom (from the RUU) in the android kitchen. So there are some extra option like a2sd. The bennefit is that you can use some tools that need root. You can even use setcpu and underclock for longer battery life.(use perflock disabler option).
If the phone is s-off its better not to use an RUU you might destroy the S-off.
Thanks mate, Using this as my base for SenseMOD V2. If you update to 2.13...
Can you do that? I need a solid base for SenseMOD since I don't have the ROM.
Extracting from RUU seems to dangerous then since I can't test. That's my handicap....
Left a thanks in advance!

My 'download manager' is called Google Chrome. It's so good it even downloads the 100% legit 'download manager' that I apparently need for this ROM.
I'm never going to open an executable I get from the internet when I'm not expecting it. Especially when I expect a ZIP file.

I'm good dude! I was just popping by to grab a ROM for a friend who owns this phone and wanted an unrooted but stripped down version of stock.
This is a thread for all of those interested in the HW Hack that has been applied to the current WIP ICS for Desire ROM. This is to keep you out of the development thread for the ICS ROM and keep it clean. Any questions should be asked in here and if anyone wants to develop it, go ahead. As mentioned many times in the original thread, they are not supporting this, so don't ask them! Funnily enough, neither am I, I am sick of reading questions pertaining to something that is mentioned every page as UNSUPPORTED.
Flash in the order the files are listed.
Copy and pasted from ICS thread:

Picaza sync
Fixed permissions (3rd party apps that needed maps now works)
Headphones
App2sd ( the stock included not app2sd+ or app2ext)

Forgot to add USB (charges + adb nothing more)
and probably alot more

Though i have enough space to install it on my internal memory, the message that is given was not enough memory. I think this is due to the 5mb of cache in the Cm7r2 hboot. Is there a way to symlink such that apps from the market are downloaded to the sdcard before installation?

Because you started spamming the other thread with pointless questions. The need for clean thread where those actively participating in development could obtain information needed without roaming the endless posts about something which could hardly benefit the development warrants the need for a new thread. This should be done the first day they started with this project.

Some will say, this tutorial is the same as this (input &%/$% of your choice) did for Shpongle rom!!!
Well, like I wrote in tutorial for Shpongle rom: "It should work with Primou POmega...", but, unfortunately, no one seems to read or remember that.
So, YES, almost the same tutorial, but, as usual, for some, title is important
OK, that's what you can do with your hov, primou gsm. I did! With latest TWRP recovery. Link: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/primou
First of all, you are already rooted!!! If not, follow guidelines on XDA, like: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1598964 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1713257 or use WinDroid HTC One V Toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471243
Second, NO GUARANTEE at all that your hov is like mine!!! So, if you do anything, here's a touch: I'm not responsible for burning, bricking, destroying, misplacing, loosing, exploding, leaking poison or whatever possible and impossible YOUR hov will do!
1. Download latest POmega rom, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600510. Yeah, also gapps - choose one: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=5649 (or, my favourite, Slim gapps: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265564.
And kernel: http://d-h.st/gEg. I personally use Ironman Kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2367804 It's up to you..., both working like a charm!
2, Factory reset/Nandroid backup or else... Copy all backups to PC or cloud!
3. Backup sd card to pc
4. Reboot into recovery
5. In recovery, wipe system and everything else in advanced wipe, everything, sdcard included!!!
6. In recovery, copy backup of sd card from pc to phone sd card (POmega, backups, gapps and everything else you want, of course). If you don't know how to mount sdcard in twrp, ignore this tutorial or learn first how to do that…
7. Flash kernel with: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1747168. Program is discontinued, but working like a charm!!! THANKS shubhamchamaria. Now, of course, you can use also WinDroid HTC One V Toolkit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471243 THANKS WindyCityRockr or Android Ultimate Toolbox Pro: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886562 THANKS despotovski01. It's up to you which tool U use, not just for kernel install, also for recovery, apks...
8. Boot into recovery
9. Flash latest POmega rom
10. Reboot system
11. Reboot recovery
12. Some say, that it's better to flash kernel AFTER flashing rom. Up to you, try and see, I didn't...
13. Reboot recovery
14. Flash gapps
15. Reboot system
16. Add whatever apk you need... and you're on your own...I restored all apps from backup that I did with Android Ultimate Toolbox Pro. Link already somewhere in this post...
17. Install one app with which you can uninstall or freeze system apps... Which app it will be, it's up to you, search around a bit... Then uninstall or freeze what you don't need. One by one and not important ones... You'll learn by mistakes...
Then install (I installed in that order, rebooting into recovery and wiping cache/dalvik between installs) :
- V6 SuperCharger: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276 Awsome!!! Thanks zeppelinrox!!! Read carefully!!!. Sorry if you brick your hov, your fault!
IMPORTANT: POmega rom has Fly-On Mod Tweaks included. So you have to uninstall them first, before installing V6 Supercharger. If you don't know how, it's better to skip installation of V6!
- Turbo boost: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2145133 Triple swap, recommended values… (Edit: use guideline in post #4 of Shpongle rom tutorial, if you experience any trouble. BIG THANKS to nereis) also, some users suggest to use just 50 MB in /cache. I still have 75 and everything working well, but... SOME SUGGEST that SwapItOn is better: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2359182 - up to you!
- CrossBreeder: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2113150, don't touch a thing, unless you know why…
- Viper4Android FX (sound) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223 Yes, XHiFi is already in rom, but you can have both...
- The New Pure Audio: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293589 YES, it's working GREAT with V4A If your hov protests, put V4A in compatibility mode...
- One Power Guard (battery) – still the best, forget other battery apps… http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1947559 - - NOW EVEN BETTER: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47760222 Some users said that there are better battery apps out there... Please, use them, I just like that, because it's working for me...
For 3rd party camera, install what you like, here's the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314084
Also XblastTools are great: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2294419. You can tweak, well, a lot...
However, GravitiBox (included in POmega) and XblastTools are almost (I said almost) identical, so you can choose just one (works for me, just one, but I will not tell which one).
I DID ALSO FOLLOWING (PLEASE, PLEASE, you're doing that on YOUR OWN):
While on POmega and HellBoy/Ironman kernel, you can (please in THAT order):
- S-OFF: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2558740
- Remove Red Text: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2164185
- Change CID: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48317726&postcount=14
- Change Splash Screen: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48373936&postcount=14
AGAIN, you're doing that on your own. Your hov may differ from mine a lot!!!
Now, if you know to read and if you follow the guidelines, you SHOULD NOT have any problems. If you do, you did something wrong, sorry for that, do everything again, correctly...
And go to POmega thread and hit "thanks" to Aiko0923... :victory:
