WiFi Troubles with Xperia Play - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
So last night, after I rebooted my Xperia Play, the wifi would connect fine, but if I tried doing anything with it (ie: surfing the web, Skype, Google Play, etc.) nothing will load. I've been meaning to try some new ROMs anyway, so I flashed a new ROM and Kernel and that didn't help either, still having the same problem. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Alex
I'm using an Xperia Play R800x with an Unlocked Bootloader
The ROM I was using was the xElite Gamer 2.0 Final Edition with the LuPuSv12-GB Kernel.
The ROM I just flashed is the NexPlay rk1 ROM based off CM9 with the modified version of LuPuS CM9 480p that the ROM created provided.

Try .ftf back to stock

[Q] Question about flashing a new ROM

I have flashed Cyanogenmod and it worked fine, but I noticed the gamepad was not working. Also my WiFi doesn't work anymore. Would flashing a new ROM that is based on stock fix my WiFi and gamepad issues?
What model of Play do you have? I'm using CM7 with R800a and they both work.
Also, you DID flash the kernel as well right?
gamepads don't work for the gameloft and EA games; for the wifi have you tried to add manually one connection first?

[Q] Why flash custom ROMs?

What are the pros and cons of flashing a new ROM? And is it buggier than the stock ROM that are already flashed into our phones? And whats the best ROM out there for the xperia play?
These questions are despised by some people XD
I advise you google these questions!

Just googled it and found out why you should flash ROMs. Im planning to flash a ROM and also overclock my phone. Whats the best ROM out there for the xperia play which is fully functional (e.g. camera works, 3d data works etc) and resembles a little bit to ICS. Also, is it possible for me to get GB 2.3.7 as a cusom rom (i think thats the latest GB).

I recommend you JokaWild v3 Rom with DooMKerneL... I think that it is the best rom for the XPERIA Play for now. Smooth ,fast ,bugfree and very stable.
Ive had a look on a few roms and it came down to this:
JokaWild v3
OR
TrueAncestor
Will I be able to overclock using this ROM and DL's kernal?

You will need to flash FW 0.62 and custom kernel with root before installing the JokaWild rom. Everything works great ,no bugs! I replaced the theme of the rom to Gin2Ics - very nice.
so basically this is what I have to do. (currently, my phone is on .42, rooted and has cwm installed).
1) unlock bootloader
2) flash .62 Rom
3) get a custom kernal. Can I put DL's kernal? If yes, which one?
4) Flash jokawild using cwm
is that it?
Yep ,all good. You can use v14 ,works great with the JW. Don't forget to flash the wifi modules for this kernel ,very important if you want to remain you wifi/3G.
how would i back up my current stock rom? And will my contacts/messages etc be deleted or only the apps will be deleted when i flash a new rom and kernal?
Also, ive tried looking for the .62 and the kernal but couldnt find it. Could someone post a link. Thanks.
And will the widgets that came with the xperia s ui work on the joka wild rom? (eg the weather widget? )
I think I may have founded the files:
So I download the .62 stock rom = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406589
and then download this kernal = http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406589
then flash jokawild v3?
0.62 FW = http://www.mediafire.com/?ytpsh7yay394b7p
DooMKerneL v14 = http://bit.ly/play_dk_14
Wifi Modules = http://d-h.st/JBM
JokaWild v3 Rom = http://www.mediafire.com/?xzvt84s6vy388tk
flash the FW via flashtool
unlock the BL
flash DooMKerneL V14
flash via CWM the WIFI modules
wipe data/factory reset via CWM
flash via CWM JokaWild v3 Rom
Thank you so much. i'll just download those files and then hopefully my phone will be running jokawild v3. (Btw can anybody post screenshots of the ui of jokawild. Ive only managed to find 2 screenshots and their only in the settings menu)..

In my opinion ,the stock theme of the rom isn't so much pretty... I'm using Gin2Ics theme with this rom ,very pretty and looks great.

im currently flashing the .62 fw now using flashtool but its been on 13% for about 20 minutes, is this normal?
its now been over 2 hours and now its on 19%. How long does this take? Is there any way to pause/stop it instead of plugging the phone out?
Ffinally I have flashed the .62 fw !!!
Now theres another problem, I need root to have cwm in order to flash the ROM and kernels. I tried using ginger break and the superoneclick method and it doesn't work although I heard you cant root on a .62 fw ... If this is the case then how did u get jokawild running ???

Crash Bandicoot no longer showing in Play Launcher.

After installing a game that was converted with PSPXperia, it's no longer showing Crash Bandicoot. Even after uninstalling the game that was converted with PSPXperia.
I've tried uninstalling the Xperia Play Launcher app and Crash Bandicoot and re-installing it through Titanium Backup. No luck.
Edit:
I'm contemplating giving up on this stock ROM anyway. Only reason I kept it was for the launcher. Any ROM recommendations? What would be the best without any loss in functionality and still runs PSx games and such well?
Tried restoring the Crash Bandicoot APK from my CWM backup, still no luck...

Did you remove the PSXperia game? Is it showing up in your launcher or in the PS pocket app? If you wanted a new rom and you have a locked bootloader I would use Xperia NXT v1.2 If not I would look into flashing a custom kernel and trying out one of the ICS builds like FXP or AOKP.

Indeed, I removed the PSPXperia game before doing all this, after realising that Crash Bandicoot, nor the PSPXperia game were showing in the Xperia Launcher app.
It's showing up in the app drawer; it's just not showing up in the Xperia Launcher app. Don't think I have access to the PS Pocket app, due to it being r800x with Verizon and whatnot.
I do have an unlocked bootloader, which of those two ROMs would be ideal for gaming?
Edit:
I read something about a "GB True Ancestor" ROM, what's that about?

The NXT rom is a Gingerbread rom that looks like the new Xperia theme. It is great for gaming and is a fast rom. I used the True Ancestor rom in the past and it was great, but was lacking some visual features I enjoyed from the NXT rom. I am currently using AokPlay and it has had great gaming performance, despite it being ICS. I primarily used FPSE for playstation gaming and on ics it has full touchpad support.

Would there be any way to get the True Ancestor ROM to work on CDMA, or is it GSM only?
Thanks for all the help, by the way,
Also, I tried to update the baseband version while still on 2.3.3 and now wireless doesn't work. Which files am I supposed to flash for the baseband? I assumed it was all that were omitted when I unchecked "baseband" in flashtool.

I don't have a CDMA device, so I'm not entirely sure. There are a few roms available for the r800x, though. I would flash the AOKP Rom and the specified kernel. There is a CDMA fix for it in the download links. I am using the linaro build and it is overclocked to 1.6, it is superfast. The only downside is that I cant get the Crash apk to work with the rom.

[Q] Stock fw is it good?

hi guys.
so im thinking of flashing stock fw but before that i have some questions.
1. which stock fw to flash? it have no bug or what so ever. 42,58 or 62?
2. is it good for heavy game? like asphalt 7, mc4, heroes of order and chaos, order and chaos duels, dh4, etc.
3. if possible can someone give me a list of safe removable system app(bloatware)?
4. v6 supercharged? is it really needed?
5. what kernel to flash? lupus gb v6? what if i didnt flash kernel? still good for gaming?
my device is r800i btw, im on aurora play atm. its fast and smooth however, sometimes my phone reboot by itself when im playing games. ive flashed lots of roms, most of the rom have an issue. so this is why i was thinking on flashing stock fw. sorry for my bad english.
the latest firmware is .62 but make your choice which is the better baseband.
and how fast did you play mc4? do you still need to connect wifi or not to play it?
its to lagging in stock rom when wifi is no connected, but its different when wifi connected.
Latest kernel and the best is lupus v7. Try it. and some kernel maybe already have supercharged.
i can play mc4 with little lag. i dont have wifi connection, just 3g.

[Q] Xpreia Arc S WiFi is't stable at all !

Hi,
The misery is the ARC S wifi isn't stable at all, it connects to my SSID smoothly and gets IP too. but most of the time I can not open any websites even google.com from the phone browser ! and the funny part is i can't ping the phone IP from my laptop but i can ping my laptop IP from the phone ( ARC S ) !
It's really annoying, for solving this problem I decided to changed the Stock ROM ,Stock Kernel , and unlook the bootloader.
1- I unlooked the bootloader.
2-I flashed [KERNEL][GPL] Vengeance [1.38][3/5] from recovery ,also I installed OTP-Module and Wifi Module.
3- after that I flashed the stock rom to [ROM]{ICS} Xperia Ultimate HD 4.0 | The next Generation | Slim & Beautiful | 08.07.13
4- the arc s Baseband is 77 and I didn't change it.
but at the end none of this efforts doesn't work. and the problem is still exit as before. (
This is my mother phone and she just uses it for surfing the net and goes to facebook, when every time it goes wrong , she'll come to me and asking for troubleshooting ....
please some tell me what should I do to solve wifi problem.
You can try using a different kernel, LuPuS v16 or Advanced stock kernel is recommended.

You cant flash kernel from recovery. You have to flash it using fastboot

First of all Thanks popthosegaskets,
I flashed [KERNEL]ARC/S-Advanced stock-4.1.B.0.587-[ROOT+INIT.D+CWM+SD-EXT] after that I flashed Stock ICS ( 4.1.B.0.587_Generic_World 1254-8596 ) ROM too.
every thing seems more stable especially wifi. but when i flashed kerne via fastboot I didn't installStock_WiFi_modules_ICS_587.zip
with that ( I know, I can install it via recovery ) by the way, Is it necessary ? I'm afraid if I install it, every thing goes wrong again !
what 's your idea about that ?

I knew that.
up........
You have to install the WiFi modules AFTER installing the ROM. Otherwise the custom ones (from the kernel) will just be written over by stock ones.
How did you get on with this?
I've tried just about every GB, ICS and JB ROM, and kernels to match. My experience is that any GB ROM/kernel combo and the WiFi is fine. Stock ICS ROM and kernel, WiFi is fine. Any other ICS ROM or kernel, and every JB combo gives poor Wifi performance. Connection drops out, router not in range when standing next to it, and when it is connected, slow speeds. This is one of the many issues I'm having with this phone. When (if) funds permit, I'm going to a Z1.

Yeah but Gin2KK is GB-based, so WiFi is fine. I'm now on G2KK and doomkernel v22, and WiFi is great!
