Anyone enabled ART on their M8?
Since speed was never really a problem with this phone, ART has little to no benefit, it takes up about a gig or so and has poor compatibility with many apps. From my testing, around a quarter of my apps fc, blinkfeed was maybe a tad smoother, the rest of the system was already butter smooth, so far, not worth the trouble, not to mention it breaks xposed, in the future it may be worth looking into as theoretically it is better than dalkvik.
Art enabled from the get go. No problems for me. Have used it on my last Sgs4 and Nexus5 with only good effects.

Running and it works great. Not any problem but the speed is the same i think. Not any difference.
So doesn't sound line much of a reason to switch to it yet. I was just curious since I've haven't had a device that could run ART. My N7 2012 can't run ART.
I had one or two forced closes with no noticable change to performance. I'm going to wait till it Google make it the default.

ART is definitely smoother and snappier than dalvik. Apps load much faster because they are precompiled. Should be few issues if any. I have personally tested over 75 apps, all worked fine.

ART Doesn't work nice with Rdio which is my music service. To be honest I didn't notice any great performance boost so I'm happy to wait until it comes out of beta & Google use it as default.

Can you go back and forth between Art and Dalvik with no issues?

That's news to me. When I had a nexus on ART Facebook took much longer to load. Strange.

This shouldn't be an issue of you're running stock. You might encounter this types of problems if you're using a custom ROM that has some ART and Dalvik optimizations. But with just pure Stock it should work fine.
After enabling art, nova launcher wouldn't work.. And I didn't really notice a big speed increase
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using xda app-developers app
It was stated that on devices that are high end and very recent that the performance increases would be very minimal they would be more noticable on phone that were running slow. So other than that the other benefit is that it increases battery life mainly in standby. Such as while its just sitting in your pocket with dalvik the battery would drain more than if it was running ART
I've been running ART and Nova has ran just fine! Are you on stock?

Hey everyone, can I get tips for decemating the lag on this phone. Its really making me consider the HTC One. At this point, the s4 is slower than my nexus 4. Thank you.

Well flash a custom rom, ooen dev settings and decrease the time for transitions, or maybe try seeder (I havent tried)

Are there any roms that still allow me to use the extra sensors?

What have you done/installed since you got your phone? My phone actually hasn't experienced any noticeable lag at all, not even once since opening the box. And I had three of them - all had zero lag. Of course, I still went and updated it and disabled some stock apps. It's getting better and better. The only issue is the speed at which this phone gets warm performing basic tasks like camera, email, internet. Even sometimes in my pocket with Sync turned off and Sound muted, the phone would get warm by itself. That's funny.

I installed action launcher, removed animations and thats about it. Right now I'm downloading the wicked rom to install, but I don't want to lose all of the samsung features such as, "smart scroll, s beam, multi-window, etc). Would you happen to know if the wicked v2 rom removes any of those?
im tired of the lag too.im on stock rooted with all the gimmics disable , my gf gs3 is alot faster. gallery takes about 2 sec just to open.
hopefully is fixed. had the htc one but battery life on it doesnt compare to gs4 .
If you don't want to be rooted to "kill the lag" go to recovery mode and factory reset and reboot. Do not touch or do anything with the phone for 5 minutes before setting up.
Im stock rooted, running Faux's kernel. I ALWAYS disable animations in Developer options....that alone eliminates much of the lag in any phone. Also, you can disable the S Voice connection to the home button.
Lastly if you want an incredibly ultra fast experience in scrolling and app drawer.... Install Nova...and make sure to make scroll speed "faster than light". You will then see how fast this phone can be when not slowed down by animations. The nice thing about Touchwiz, is that the settings and notification tray look fairly stock JB....so it matches great with Nova.
This S4 is FLYING....so friggin fast, zero lag, great battery life!
Try it out!
Cheers.
Hi.

i am using XDA Premium nothing noticed so far its smooth,
Could you clear Cache for this app and Data and re setup and try again .
I get it sometimes, depending on what kernel / rom I'm using. I use it to test kernel / rom smoothness as a test.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Thanks in fact i'm using perseus kernel, but i think it depend on which apps i'm using. On some apps i have no lag.
I also use pheonix rom, but if i want to eliminate these lags, i'll loose some battery life.
I think i'll buy zerolemon battery and put higher settings on the kernel. But i really need the settings for color on perseus kernel and i don't know if any other kernel use it?
If you're on Stock Rom then there'll be lag, in xda, in Tapatalk, when scrolling in my files and almost everywhere else. But since I moved to Android Revolution HD, almost 50% of those lag things are gone. Now when I scroll through Tapatalk, or in Twitter, it's just smooth as hell. Well not iOS or WP smooth, but for Android it's more than enough. Honestly I've never believed or seen a droid phone could perform this fluidly.
I sounded like a custom Rom fan, but let me tell you, I actually hate them, and always preferred stock ROMs, but this ARHD is something.

Really? Because I recently have left both those ticked because I haven't had any other problems in other apps. Never had a problem with email app ever. I ticked both of those approximately two months ago and still haven't run into any color or cache scrolling problems. Heck it seems a couple of other apps lost the infamous xda lag. Cant believe xda app is still laggy.

Try this: Set it on, go into the email app and click into an email (not just inbox but an email) now scroll quickly. For me I always see distortion...I've tried many times with different roms / kernels but its always the same. Not a biggy though, I just use another email app now
Edit: Im talking about the email app not gmail app btw.
Lol. That is due to Mali's slower fill rate. And once you scroll through all of it, it doesn't do it anymore. Same in the browsers. You're less likely to see that on a power vr or adreno platform.

It has nothing to do with gpu rendering. You can replicate it in many browsers with it with out GPU rendering ticked. It can minor or major issues but I just haven't run into any lately, so for now it stays permanently ticked til I come across something elsemucked up.

Hmmm, I only see it with Force GPU enabled.
Lags still here even if i activate 2 options on developers tools about gpu.
On AOSP 4.4 ROMs I get way worse benchmarks than I do on TW 4.4 ROMs. But no matter what I do, I always have choppy performance and insane lag on any ROM I try for this phone. I know it's relatively old but shouldn't it be a little more efficient than this? If anyone can think of anything I can do to make the performance better, I'm open for suggestions.

I turn GPS off whenever I don't need it and I stop all running processes at least twice per hour. I'm on my second S3 and I still get lags and stutters no matter what I'm doing, and the benchmarks on AOSP ROMs are so small and I know this phone can do better than that cause the TW benchmarks are so much higher.

I had to sell my G3 after about a week because I was having issues with lag. Was this fixed with today's update?
You *had* to sell it because of that? The only lag I notice is on wakeup which isn't that big of deal.
It is significantly improved. And no, it's not just my imagination.

Why didn't you just exchange it for another one? You must had a defective one. You were within the return period
Everyone complains about this so called lag. The only lag I had ever on this phone was with the keyboard taking forever to load. Fixed that with a factory reset. Starting to think that some folks are having lag due to user settings.
Yeah, I don't know what lag people are talking about here. Butter smooth and no stuttering of any kind since day one.
Me too fast as hell no lag and im underclocked and undervolted
So what does the new update fix? Is performance or battery better?

The lag is horrible . j/k when I leave move tho it does have lag but not as much as before.
BAD ASS G3
It's hard for me to say as the lag went away after I debloated and for rid of carrierIQ, buuuut.... LG did enable 60fps full time from dynamic, and that seems to help people.
I will say, that rooting, changing kernels and getting rid of carrierIQ helped a ton.
The only place I ever had lag was in the app drawer. It is considerably less on the m update, happens rarely now, where it used to happen a lot on C.
I would love to see you guys post some videos of this lag. I'm starting to think it is very much exaggerated in many cases.
When my phone was stock it was not laggy except the keyboard and even that wasnt that bad. Now with animations off and other tweaks it is lightning fast.

They're the 2 possible engines that Android uses to handling apps. The "normal" one is Dalvik, with that one everything works fine. ART is the newest one and it seems to be still in experimental phase, it should bring more speed and less battery usage but it can cause issues with certain apps/devices. I haven't tried it myself with the Note 4 but it seems that people who has tried it are getting issues and switching back to Dalvik. I'm sure at some point it will be ironed out but it's still a bit soon for it. Oh, and Xposed doesn't work with it (not that it matters for now on the note 4)
