Hello everyone,
I was wondering is there a easy way to go back to stock? I am getting the M8 today from Rogers and was wondering if I mod it is there a firmware file I can just flash to return back to stock? (like how the N5 has Factory Files) First HTC ever and im really excited just want to be prepared when modding it. How should I back up the firmware? are there stock files for rogers etc..etc.....
Thanks!

Lol if you want to trade it in you better not tamper with it at all ! They will refuse it

The links in the index are there but when you click on them ... they dont work. They are not in the development or the general section .. I went thru all the pages. A search didnt find anything on how to unroot this so I can take send it back.
soooo .. how do we unroot this damn thing now .. and what happened to those threads? Thanks
You DIDN'T look hard enough.

well thanks ... guess no one believe in putting "unroot" in the title for unroot threads anymore.... since that is what i was looking and searching for .. not a stock ROM. I gonna try this out ..thanks for the help again.
Wait, what happened to the 1 step unroot thread that simply required you download and install the zip file? I was planning on using that tonight.
I knew I should have downloaded the file yesterday...

yep .. thats what I was looking for .. gone it seems. I just unrooted mine I believe. I had a completely stock backup with the odex files and all .. all I did was flash the recovery image using odin after restoring the stock recovery and then a master reset.
the links I used to get the stuff I needed were:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321811
last page of this one to get the recovery since the link in the first one doesnt work
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319830&page=5
stock ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1350360
I didnt use this since I had a backup but this is the stock ROM that you can probably use in jangst123 method instead of using that deodexed one... but I didnt do that ... so I cant confirm that myself .. although .. couldnt see why not.

Well wouldn't unrooting bring you back to stock status? Either way hope this helped.
If your using the stock zip make sure you flash stock kernel first and then stock rom or you'll be stuck with custom kernel logo if you had one installed.

eh not really .. I was using a "stock" but rooted rom. I was looking for the keyword of unroot... which is probably why I didnt see that one. Since there are stock ROMs that arent really stock like rooted and all.
But yes that did help and I`m sure its going to help others as well .. so thanks again for the reply.
i just need the stock kernel...

Hi guys, brand new to the forum, member wise, but been using XDA site for years. Have had the Verizon HTC One since it was released in August and been patiently waiting for S-Off to be achievable. Awesome for Sonic buying a Java card and wish I could have sent mine to him but unfortunately did not have a backup phone to use.
I was wondering if someone could create a guide to complete S-Off with Beaup's mod? I don't want to brick my phone since it's the only one I have, so I figured this could be beneficial to everyone, not just me.
Thanks guys
If you follow his guide, it's pretty straight forward. It failed the first time for me because of either not having the stock kernel, or just a bad usb port, but that didn't brick my phone. It just didn't do anything. Tried it the second time and it worked like a charm.

Thanks man for clearing it up. Just kind of new to HTC in particular. First HTC phone. Was just kind of curious if I had to worry about anything different.
Im running nos sense but when i tried to go back to my backup of stock before root i got a md5 mismatch on cwm and so it wont backup to that. Does anybody know where i can get the stock rom to be able to run the s-off method. thanks

You should be able to flash one of the stock based roms and make sure you have the stock kernel.

Oh ok cool. Would nos sense work or do I need to use like Andy's bonestock rom?
I guess it's self explanatory... I'm rather new to HTC devices, and coming from the Sprint S2, I'm not used to having a recovery that's separate from the kernel. So where could I get an image of the stock recovery for the ONE in case I ever do have to "warranty" the device?
I used to keep a nandroid of the base gingerbread ROM and the kernel for my S2 in the case that happened and I had to use them twice. So it'd be nice to have a folder stored deep in my storage drive with the right files for my ONE.
I have seen a couple of the stock ROM images, but I'm not sure that they are the 4.2.2 it came with. Anyone help me out with these? I'd be grateful!

So your looking for the files that will get you back to stock in case of a warranty issue?

There is a guide somewhere in the development section that can get you back to stock with a S-on and the security flag reset. Its a lengthy process not like flashing a tar file in Odin thats for sure.

I've looked through that thread a hundred times. Is the ruu the recovery image? Also need a stock rom image? And if I ever switch out the kernel, well I'd need that too.
But the process doesn't scare me at all, coming from a Linux user of quite a few years. I just have to have the files to do it and to make my personal guide to work it for later.

The ruu is an all in one. It includes but is not limited to hboot, recovery, system, boot and radio partitions. It will flash your partitions back to stock.

Absolutely. Had to have my phone at least de-bloated. lmao Just learning all I can about the device though. Like I said, I came from a phone who's kernel and recovery were packed together and you could pretty much do anything you wanted from recovery without adb/fastboot at all. TWRP for me it is though, pretty nice and I like it a bit more than CWM.
Couldnt get s-off for some reason but i totally effed this phone up and need to return it back to stock so i can start over. Is this possible?
I am waiting for the factory RUU if it ever comes. Hope it does sometime soon.

From a bricked device???.. why people are like this... I mean having this file help us in case we test something with our phone and we brick it... then you are back from a soft brick useless device to a stock state.

By any chance is it possible to throw this into The Kitchen, get rid of knox, add root binaries and rebuild back into a flashable zip to flash?

It would have to be an Odin flashable file as no custom recovery for att, and the locked bootloader would reject the tar file.
