[Q] mount R/W /system - Xperia Z1 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So ive rooted my phone and installed this ROM(clean install, factory reset and format /system in recovery before) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2671363
Im trying to mount system as R/W with different ways, and cant get it to happen. I tried clicking it in root explorer, using commands, tried root browser, FX file explorer(+root addon) and some other apps, cant copy anything on system ;(
I think somehow im not permitted to mount and no app will solve this. Can unlocking bootloader help? what can be wrong?
please help

I think i did mount it in CWM, but i want to move files from storage to /system and after mounting system in CWM i still cant move files when i reboot to system and try using apps.
attached me mounting system? I think, never done it before. As i entered recovery, clicked mount /system when the unmount /system appeared i rebooted system since i cant see how to move files in recovery.

The rom doesn't properly disable sony ric, it seems. Using dualrecovery should fix it but I don't know if you can just flash it over the rom. You need to ask the developer.

Sadly cant contact developer via PM or post in ROM development thread. (getting those 10 posts can be a barrier for a lurker like me )
What exactly do you mean by using dualrecovery (just installing/flashing it?), im ready to try, i reflashed rom few times anyway, and im ready to go back to stock rom if neccesary i have time and almost remember root process at this point anyway, it goes hella fast.
Edit: flashed dualrecovery, WORKS! Many thanks, now ill try somehow contact dev if its fine with his ROM

Strange issue after clearing cache...

Rooted, Stock ICS 4.0.4.
After clearing cache using the Darkside cache cleaner or whatever it is, I can no longer update hosts file with Ad-Away. Also, I cannot update BusyBox, and I cannot mount directories as r/w within Root Explorer. I tried to reinstall the Superuser.zip, and it said it was removing the old one and putting it back (in recovery mode), but it still hasn't fixed the issue....
Some of the applications that were already granted Superuser access do function properly...such as Titanium Backup...and they detect that the phone is rooted.
What's going on? How do I fix this?
Thanks!

Try installing "supersu" instead of using superuser. this should fix the problem. it did for me.

Yeah I believe so. You got a link to the new one?
So what do I have to do. Just flash over the current recovery with 6.0, clear cache, reinstall superuser? Or is it not necessary to clear cache again?
Thanks!

This is what I did:
Download ROM Manager, and use that to install it.
Do restore, and you should be good.

How am I supposed to update CWM if nothing is getting root access?...even though it says Superuser is granting perms.
So I did exactly that...installed new CWM....reinstalled Superuser...still nothing is working. I tried ES file manager...fails to mount anything as rw. Tried re-updating superuser binary...fails to mount rw. I cannot mount any directory to rw...yet some root applications work...what is going on?!?!?! How do I fix this?

I suggest flashing a different recovery, like TWRP 2.22 or sk8r's CWM 6.xx, and reflash your ROM, clean install

Had the same thing happen to me had to delete the android file in sd card and ex sd card then start over with odin nothing i did fixed it untill i did this . Cant remember who said it or where i read it wish i could give credit to them but its been awhile it happened to me comming from gb to 4.0.3 id have root for a few hours then would lose it . U might beable to just delete those and reflash root file and it might work if not delete those and reflash through odin . I know its alot of work but it works. I guess data from ur previous os is corruting the new one and breaking root. I tried reflashing fresh from odin several times before deleteing those files and it never worked untill i deleted those .

It just doesn't make sense honestly..
I tried reinstalling Superuser..and even flashing SuperSU...but no luck. This is the STRANGE PART!!
I can actually download ad-away updates and install busy box within the first few minutes of the phone booting. I can also mount /system as rw while the phone is still in the process of booting up. Once this takes place however, I can no longer mount anything as rw...and busybox won't install, ad-away won't update, etc.
But applications can request permission for superuser...and do work!! I don't understand!?!??! What is causing rw to change to ro after boot?
All of this... have you tried simply reflashing your current ROM?

It just overwrites your /system and /boot partitions, leaving /data alone. Unless you specifically wipe or factory reset, your data remains.

[Q] problem with new gs3 notmounting storage in recovery

i bought a new gs3 several days ago and it was running 4.1.2 out of the box, tried to root it using root from recovery method..recovery installed just fine but recovery (cwm) would not let me mount internal or external storage so i could flash the root file i pushed to the phone..i finally got the phone rooted with a one click root through odin but recovery would still not mount my storage to flash anything..used goo manager to install twrp and it wont mount my storage either..so i now have a rooted phone that will not flash anything through recovery..i can read the files on the phone with es file explorer and it mounts to my pc just fine..seems to be just a problem with recovery..i have 2 other gs3s that are both rooted running custom roms with no problem..its just this new phone..i thought it might be a bad phone but saw a couple other ppl on xda having the same issue but cant find any solutions..hoping to find an answer here..anyone??

this issue sucks but its good to know that its not specific to my device..saves me the time and trouble of turning it back in to sprint only to find out its an issue with all the new s3s..thanks for confirming..hope someone much smarter than i can figure out how to solve this issue
Yeah I have rooted a few s3's and this is a first for me. I sent an email over to the twrp team also so see what happens

Yeah, I'm having the exact same problem with my S III. I've tried TWRP, CWM, and even the stock recovery. All of them refuse to mount the internal storage (or any drives/partitions for that matter), so even if I try to wipe back to factory settings, it just tells me that the system partition could not be mounted.
The one time I think the recovery was able to mount the partitions was before I originally flashed CWM, because at that point I was able to do a factory reset from the stock recovery.
Please follow the progress of this issue in the CWM and TWRP threads in development. It is a known issue.

Ace II and Lite Rom v2.8 (SOLVED)

This question has been answered by the second post, to keep things short if you want to flash a rom you need to mount /preload and /data from within CWM
Hello, sorry if there is another thread like this.
I tried to install Lite Rom v2.8 on my GT-I8160
I am not really a beginner (i have a HTC myself) but the information on the rom thread is kinda... not available ^^''
The GT-I8160 is running 4.1.2 I8160XXMG2 (stock kernel and rooted) with CWM6 on the external SD card (no clue why it doesn't permanently install itself, i guess it has to do with the fact that the phone is running a stock kernel?) i tried to install the rom within CWM (install zip from SD card) but it is stuck on repeating the boot animation ._. it works after recovering the backup though. Does someone know what i did wrong?
I think you didn't mount preload. Try to flash Lite Rom 2.8 again and in Cwm mount system, preload and data before flashing the Rom.
Tell me if it worked

Sounds odd, it's not hard to tell the updater-script to mount preload as well, instead of having to do it manually
Anyways, our system space is limited, so a lot of the apps are installed in preload/symlink/system/app first and then symlinked from system/app.

Unable to Format /data

Hi all, this is my first post here. Unfortunately it is an issue, but I have been flashing roms for a while now.
So last night after flashing Ditto Note for my note 2 on att, I decided I didn't like it and wanted to revert back to my previous rom. However, when I am trying to format data in recovery it just hangs. I have tried both on CWM and TWRP... twrp says: "error too many open files"
And obviously this issue has caused many other issues for me such as being unable to flash anything else as anything else will just get stuck on the bootscreen.
I remember somewhere that there is a flashable zip that will specifically format everything for you, but I dont remember what this was called.
But any help would be great
Flashed stock 4.3 via Odin and it still doesn't boot past samsung screen
Just tried using zoot's super wipe
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1983489
and once again it is stuck on data wipe

I've tried TWRP and Aroma file manager now. Aroma file manager detected over 998 files in that folder until it froze... I've also tried moving the folder into my external SD card in which case there also happens to be 335 files until it froze as well.
How does a rom manage to install thousands of blank folders??

Yes. I have flashed and booted into a Rom a couple times while having this 'data wipe' issue. However i feel like it is the luck of the draw because sometimes it boots, other times it hangs at the samsung screen lol
Should I go ahead and try to install a rom?
Is the "wipe" command issued by the recovery simply "rm -rf" or an actual format command with mkfs.ext4?

The logs say that it uses "make_ext4fs function"
Can I just go through the data folder with file explorer and delete everything else there?
OR is there another super wipe style zip that I don't know about ?

Issue has been solved. Wiped phone with a script? (i think) from a flashable zip contained from ANDROID HD rom for the note 2
for those that might need it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040941 (3rd post down)
This script does not use AROMA which has crashed for me everytime I tried to wipe with it. Really useful
Now currently running aosp rom cause I hate the new TW in 4.3 and 4.4 lol
