A friend of mine has issues where is power button is kinda loose and the power menu will always come on and so will the screen when it is off. Any way of repairing this? I cannot seem to find a guide on doing so or the right parts, does he need to just buy a new button for the power button or the whole daughterboard for it?

Probably just needs to replace the power button. I've seen this sold on places like eBay. Installation may require a pro job, however.

Hi
recently i got my Galaxy nexus broken screen replaced, i dint notice until later that the volumae button was missing , the guy who fixed it refused to accept that it was his fault , and he says he doesnt have any part to replace for it , he agreed to fix it for me if i bring the volume button replacement, tried arguing with no luck.
the question to you guys is where can i buy the volume button replacement , i tried ebay they are selling volume button flex cable but i dint see the actual volume button in any of the images.
can anyone help ?
thanks
What about picking up an used/broken GN off eBay?
Mean time try using this:

You will have to buy a replacement casing for it. I dismantled my phone the other day to clean the seams and the volume button is indeed easy to lose if you are not careful, it's a PITA to put it back too..
Beamed from my Maguro.

I have volume buttons here. You can get it for free if you're interested.
The volume button is probably the most lose part of the GNex. And at the same time very light in weight. So it's very easy to lose it if not careful.
So my power button is acting up, and I think it's a hardware failure.
If the screen is on and I press the power button, the screen turns off, then back on, as if multiple key presses are being registered. If the screen is off and I press the power button, sometimes the long press power menu comes up.
I think the ribbon cable associated with the power button is failing, what do you guys think?
EDIT: just found out the power button is surface mounted to the mother board :-/ so that's a bummer if the power button is the issue.

First, and only, bump. Does anyone have any advice? I've ordered the blue plastic power button itself, but not the actual switch (I don't know how to surface mount).
I'm going to replace that. If that doesn't work, I'm not sure what else to do. Can I reflow the power switch on the motherboard somehow?
Thanks

You can get a replacement part on ebay, but it is a piece that needs to be soldered to the board. You should call local cell repair shops and see if they have the expertise to do this.
I've had this issue for the last 3 months. I've just been using the home button as power on and quick toggle screen off.

Yeah. I'll see if this button replacement works first, then I'll look into having the actual switch replaced. I'm good at soldering, but I've never surface mounted, and I don't think my phone is a good place to experiment ha. I'll start looking into repair shops.

You use your home button as the power on and off? What do you use as the home button then?
The home button.
I never said I used the home button as power off, I use a quick toggles screen off setting for that

Did the plastic button change fix your problem? I think I am having a power button problem as well just not sure.
I dropped my S3 while on the treadmill and now the power button is really sensitive, it gets pressed just from holding it or brushing up against the side. I probably going to send it in because its been less than a year so its still under manufactures warranty.
In the mean time, I know I've used ROMs that have on screen buttons in options, I could use one of those, then would it be possible to map the physical home button to be the power button?

Googling "remap i747" be faster ...
I ended up just installing Illusion, amazing AOSP rom by the way, and it let me enable software buttons and disable the hardware ones. It worked great until I could get a replacement phone.
Hello there nice people of Desire HD's XDA Community,
I have a somehow strange problem regarding my phone. After around 3 years my Volume Down button has stopped working. In order to turn the vol down, i have to push the Up button and then slide the bar down.
This isn't much of a problem but the real problem is that, now, I cannot enter Recovery mode if something goes wrong with my ROM. Has any of you faced something like this in the past?
Thank you for your time
If you're running a custom ROM, it probably has an advanced power menu that will allow you to reboot directly into Recovery. Just hold the power button until the power menu shows up and see what options are available. If you're using 4EXT Recovery, its Control app has a power menu that allows you to reboot into Recovery as well. If you're running CWM or TWRP, perhaps their apps have a similar option.
If your phone is off you can try connecting it to your computer and using adb to boot directly into recovery,
adb reboot recovery
hey sharksfan7... Thank you for your answers. I am familiar with all of these functions.
I was asking for something in case of the phone does not boot and there is no PC available.
Or even if some user had the same problem before and can recommend me something he/she did. Like, replace the volume rocker (although I don't think a piece of plastic is the issue. More likely some "sensor" is fried/broken)
Again, thank you for your time
If the phone won't boot, you probably need a computer.
Hi there
My vol +/- plastic broke and fell out so when i need vol down + power i use toothpick , but just before it fell out completly i noticed button has 3 pads 2 for pressing buttons and one in middle for rocking action and that one fell out completly first and after that neither vol buttons using palstic button worked, so after a while it fell out completly and i discoverwd toothpick method.
So check if buttons work when you remove big plastic bar if they do see if pads are on place, biggest black is in middle, 2 smaller for pressing near end. Or just replace whole button.

Need help in buying a new volume button...
I'm searching on ebay for a new volume button, but can't seem to decide on which one can be the best... Don't seem that most are genuine (if any at all), but I don't expect that...
Can anyone help me on this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_s..._nkw=htc+desire+hd+volume+button&LH_PrefLoc=2
When I install the new one, does it going to stay firmly attached?!?
I'm asking this, cause on the last time that I dismantle the volume button, I don't know what I did, but I never got back the volume button firmly attached again as it used to be. Now it's very loosely and it very simple to loose it from the phone and that's why I'm buying a new one... to trying to fix the volume button to work and to get it firmly attached on the phone.
Hi there,
I've got the same problem here, but my volume buttons are gone..
I've ordered one from good old china (hehe).
I think you have to set a piece of elastic glue in the center of the button to keep it in place.
At least at my phone there is a little point of glue-like stuff there, very elastic.

but do I have to put that elastic glue or does it already come with the new button that you order??
Did you already have that new button and put it on the DHD ?? If yes is it good and fits good? Where did you bought them (ebay? seller?)

Not arrived yet, will tell you then.
I think you have to organize the glue yourself..
Any news??
Yeah. Arrived this week, I just installed it. No glue delivered with the parts. And the parts aren't nearly the original, but I got two of them.
Because I'm using a cover, the volume keys didn't disappear until now.
Just took a long time to get them, next time I'm gonna spend 3-4 EUR more and order it from Germany...
Hello
I'm having an issue with the volume button too, so I'm using this thread.
I have only the down volume which is working, the up button doesn't respond whatever the ROM.
And now the button doesn't stand in place, I have to watch when i take it that the button volume stay still. (I may use some glue to fix as you wrote earlier)
Do you know what I have to change if the up is really down ?
I don't think my button is wrong, but maybe I'm wrong and there is some contact to chek before going further ?
Thank you for any help !
Anyone know where to get hold of the power switch? It's starting to get erratic.
I'll replaced the one on my Nexus 4, which was easy to do, just popped into place (no solder) once a few screws removed. Hope the Swift is similar.

my power switch is also kind of.. instable. its not an software issue, its just not the best and after heavy use it gets hairy. i dont think that its possible to get a power switch an replace it by yourself, there are no replacement parts for the swift afaik. i try to avoid using it by using double tap on status bar to lock and the volume button to wake up and hope the power switch don't stop working for the next year(S)
