Not yet there isn't, people with locked bootloaders (like me and a lot of other people) are continuously looking for a way to root without unlocking the bootloader. I think there's a CWM being developed for locked bootloaders (I'm not too sure on this though).

Don't think it's possible to use it on locked bootloader
My drivers were messed up after updating.. I'm still trying to fix that. None of the root methods even recognise the phone now. All I did was update ... but PCC sees the phone just fine. I tried installing the drivers in the latest flashtool. If I can't fix the drivers, no root is possible for me.

its the kernel that is the problem, rooting would not effect bootloaders if the ftf had stock kernel and was signed. if i had a computer id do it but sorry i cant :/

Right. The kernel is the problem but there is no way to make a flashable and modified ftf file.
The way cold be developing a cwm for locked bootloaders and then flash a prerooted rom in zip format or a stock rom and then a rooting patch.

Sounds good, but I have a question. How are you going to install the recovery in the first place? Couldn't you just use this method to inject the su binary?

I think CWM is not necessary. Any way to copy all 4.3 system files with su binares (to partition /system with transfer all permissions) should works, then flash 4.3 kernel. But it should be done before Android core will start (otherwise Android will crash before you copy all files), maybe add in init.d or any other boot file, script which copy all 4.3 files with all privileges...
I don't have this phone now so i can't test it.
Any methods found to root phones which have locked bootloader? This is really sad
Only way to gain root without voiding warranty is to go back to stock 4.1.2,then take backup of ta partition , unlock the bootloader, and flash 4.3 ftf..
Else if we unlock the bootloader on 4.3,we can't relock it again as we can't take backup of ta partition
Anyone working on it?

Hi,
first of all, I am pretty new to smartphones and android.
I have my arc s, 2.3.4, .42 firmware, rooted, locked bl for two weeks now.
I am really interested in mods since i dont want to unlock bootloader for custom roms...
My problem is: In almost every thread i look people say you have to apply mods via recovery (?) and this is only possible with bl unlocked,
but i managed to apply the statusbar widget mod (sorry for no link) via root explorer..
is this possible with every mod?
thanks in advance and a happy new year!
This depends "modification"
Flashing via recovery is fastest and easiest way. Via root explore you must do all work manually.
Sometime this work, sometime not.

How to flash via recovery?
Xperia Arc (rooted)
you can instal CWM recovery on LOCKED BOOTLOADER with SE TWEAKER.
It will work just fine, but you cannot flash custom ROM since your BL will be still locked.

if it doesnt work, will it mess up my phone? and if it does, will i be able to fix it?
By reflashing it.
But install recovery with SE tweaker, do a backup and then you can always restore "system" when a mod messed the phone up and it just bootloops.
Or unlock the bl and flash a kernel with recovery, it's worth it

For some custom roms you need to flash kernels via fastboot and for this you need unlocked bootloader.
if bootloader it's locked use Google and search there is official way to unlock but you will lose warranty and drm.

First flash any kernel you want instructions will be given from where you will download like doomkernel it has inbuit recovery. Reboot into recovery choose your rom
Wipe system, chache, dalvik chache install zip from sd card
Dont flash ics rom over gb kernel or gb rom over ics kernel or it will cause bootloop

Considering you already have flashtool and your desired kernel follow this :
1) Plug in your phone in fastboot mode [S-Off, hold menu key and plug in to PC]
2) Place you .img on your desktop
3) Open up flashtool, select fastboot mode and select flash kernel and select it from the desktop
4) Once kernel is flashed un plug your device restart it open up CWM and flash desired ROM.
Hopefully i helped you out

You need to unlock your bootloader. Root is not needed at all.

Hi! I'm new to android and this forum so I have some questions before I start flashing roms and tweaks. I have a rooted r800i locked bootloader.
1.If I flash a custom rom(Gin2JellyBean) will I still have warranty if i flash back .42 on my r800i?
1b.If I still have warranty after flashing Gin2JellyBean where can I get the stock rom?
2.If I brick my play is it any way I can restore it?
3.Can sony pc companion detect the play with a custom rom?
Thanks!

You require root to flash gin2jelly so you will lose warranty however flashing back to stock will unroot phone so you will have warranty back
And se phones gets soft brick most of the times and are easily recoverable but if you get hard brick there is a fix for that too and its free
Except your sim is locked.
And pc can detect your phone with custom rom installed

Hi guys,
My friend just gave me his old xperia arc and I want to root it, unlock bootloader and flash super jellybean 6.0. I have a xperia play running cm10 so I'm not a complete noob. however, I can't seem to be able to root the xperia arc. I tried using flashtool and superone click without anyluck
Some details about the phone that might help
Xperia Arc unlocked
Model LT15a
Running stock 2.3.4
4.0.2.A.0.62 firmware
Do I have to down grade or update the firmware? or would unlocking the bootloader and then flashing a kernel be any faster?
Thanks in advance :good:

tried the eroot thing and the doomlord toolkit but it didn't work :crying: any more ideas?
If you're flashing a custom ROM root is not required. Just flash a custom kernel for your custom ROM that comes with a recovery so you can flash the ROM in recovery.

Did you check USB Debugging,Unknown sources, and go to connectivity as USB connection mode chose Mass storage mode(MSC)
Don't turn off the phone, turn on the application for rooting(eroot) and then connect your phone and just once click on root and what until it finishes.
