Just heard back from an otterbox rep and it's not good:
"Unfortunately we do not have any plans on making a case for that device."

that's what they said about the original moto droid. i really hope they change their minds..
i think the portfolio is exactly what i wanted and wouldnt have designed it any differently. 3 tilting angles, folds over to be used laying flat on a table, fits in dock without being removed, and then gives it total protection when carrying it around.
very happy with mine.

How does it fit in the dock with the case on? Can you post a pic of how that works?
I have this case also and I like it for the most part but I hate that I can't charge it while it is closed.

I don't think think anyone would say it doesn't have its positives. It does somethings very well, others ok and somethings that make me think "huh." We're just disappointed with how glaring the negatives are. I've owned many portfolio style cases for different products and never see one as poorly thought out as this one.
Having to open it to charge is ridiculous. Hard plastic tabs that leave wear marks is also ridiculous.

I agreed. $40 for a not-quite excellent designed case. Even though it fits the Xoom nicely, it's not totally accessible, take the power charger, usb port for example, which are blocked entirely from bottom. Greatly disappointed. It's no good for protection, too. Reports of possible scratches. Luckily, I was being rather careful. "=/
I'm looking forward to see new cases popping up in the near future. I'm surprised no company has gone into making some for Xoom. Unlike Apple's products would've already been in production before devices actually get out. Like the iPad 2 case. =P

You can easily rub away any marks that are made by the portfolio case.
My only complaint is that when lying flat while having the plastic piece on the bottom of the xoom, the gap in the plastic doesn't expose the hole for the charger, but all I have to do is fold it differently.
Overall I like this case alot, and consider all the complainers to be whining about nothing.
Honestly, I don't see what all the fuss is about. If anyone is looking to pick this up I would suggest a trip to your local bestbuy and tell them that motorola has it for 25% off and ask them to match it. It worked perfectly for me and it makes the price a whole lot more reasonable. Now about the case itself, I don't understand how anyone can complain about it covering the charging or usb ports while using it propped up in landscape position. The reason I think it is not a valid issue is because no matter what case you use or even if you don't use a case at all, if you sit the xoom on a table in landscape with charging port and usb port on the bottom you won't be able to charge it or use the usb. That is because of the design of the tablet itself not the case. I bought the case and i love it, it doesn't scratch my xoom at all and i'm not sure how anyone else is scratching theirs. There's my two penny's
My Xoom arrives today, and this portfolio case arrives tomorrow. Good info. Looks like at the minimum I will be filing down those tention locking nubs for the bottom.
I never understood why people made protective cases that damaged the devices they were setup to protect.
With the locking nubs filed down it should get the job done until a better case comes out.

It doesn't damage anything. It leaves a mark that is easily rubbed away. It's harder clean your finger smugs from the screen, than it is to clean the temporary marks left by the case.

Wow, do you want to protect your $40 case or your $800 device? They can be easily rubbed away now but over time that will continue to wear causing permanent damage. As the other poster stated, we purchase these cases to protect our devices.
Call me a whiner all you want but I dont want my very expensive Xoom to look like a POS in 2 months. I've owned lots of well designed portfolio cases and not one has left any mark behind. They just do their job, protect well and are easy to use.
To the rest of the community, I just wanted to pass along my experience and warn those of you that this might not be the best case for your needs.

nice
does it come in black/red?
and once you get this case, how do you carry around?
i need a holster
it comes in black/black, and black pink..
No holster, just stuff it in your pocket...
its not as gigantic as their HC cases are; those you can drop from a rooftop and the phone won't crack...
this one should survive any drop from 7 feet or less...they have a video of them testing it on the webpage listed above..

its about 10 times more protective than any tpu case..
its bigger and bulkier, so, if you don't want that, then don't get one...
Nice find. Thanks. Will be ordering one.

looks like it adds extra grip on the phone but kinda makes the phone look a little bulky imo.
looks good!!
has anyone received theirs yet?
I ordered mine first day, but, I am in chicago, so its probably a couple more days
Anyone know if/when they are going to have the HC case? Had one for my Evo, and I would love to have one for the E4GT.

I'd prefer the HC case as well, but, something is better than nothing...
That looks nice. I'll have to get that. The phone is actually too light for me.
I had the G2 before and that was pretty heavy. I think I'll have to pick one of these up.
Hmm... I need to go thank the OP.
Holy Cr$P!!
This thing is awesome.
It puts the case mate tough to shame!!!!
I retruned the case mate and got this.
Extremely happy!!!

yea, this is the toughest case out, for now, for this phone..
Hoping the ballistic hc comes out for this, so I can feel 100 confident that the phone is protected..

What is the diff. between SG and HC? is the HC phone/polycarbonate/silicon?
It's quiet comforting knowing my phone will no longer be at risk.
I've already done a 7 ft. drop test with it and am impressed.
I like how the feel is on the power button and volume as well (much easier to press than on the TPU case.

Here is what the hc cases are all about..

I dont understand why so many people like the TPU cases; the're just a cheap piece of vinyl, and do nothing to protect your phone from a drop on a hard surface, like concrete..they are super cheap, I guess, considering there is only a few pennies in vinyl to make them, so maybe its the price that makes them so attractive..

For me it was keeping the camera from scratching while on a table... It protected that.
Also, it kept the phone from having direct contact with surfaces (to avoid scratch)... yah it would probably break if dropped, but if you rubbed up on a hard surface, at least the phone wouldn't scratch
We just got the all black ones in store today

Hi,
I'm looking for a very protective case for when I go hiking or stuff like that. I want to make sure that if I happen to drop the phone or have it my pocket and lean against a rock and forget I had it my pocket, no harm will be the done to the phone. Basically a case for an outdoors/nature type of environment.
I don't care about aesthetics because this will not be my normal day case...
I was thinking of the Candy Shell one: http://www.speckproducts.com/smartphone-cases/candyshell-grip-for-htc-one.html
Does anyone have it? Is it good for the kind of needs I described? Or do you have a better suggestion?

IMHO, after testing various cases for HTC one, the best one regarding overall protection is the double dip original case, being the only one actually protecting the speakers grills.
That case a little trimmed to fit the phone with the MIME glass on it is by far the most complete protection (and is looking good also).

Maybe for everyday use. But while your hiking I highly doubt it will do much protecting against possibly sharp rocks and falling more than your average pocket/ear height.

The major problem is that the speaker grills are completely exposed (like all cases unfortunately).
Any leads on waterproof cases for N5? I have a generic waterproof pouch, but it has solid rear panel, so no camera use. Also the pouch is limiting as button operation is difficult and headphone jack is not accessible. Wishing for a LifeProof or Otterbox, but doubt N5 will have enough sales to garner that kind of attention.
We can hope. The Lifeproof cases are the only thing that makes me jelly of iPhone/Galaxy phones.
Why don't we send a group email (from all we users of nexus 5 here on the forum), asking them for a waterproof cover?

Probably going to have to go that route, I doubt any of the big case companies will see enough numbers to make it worth their while. I'm not sure, though, if I would really trust the water proofing on a "cheap knockoff".

I have a $15 lifeproof knockoff for samsung S4 and i can attest to the splashproof. Havent the need to test the 6ft waterproof for real yet. But whover made this cheap knockoff shou;d consider making one for N5. they can corner the market early... wonder if i can find who make the case...
A water and shock proof case would most definitely be hugely helpful. As I spend quite a bit of time running/cycling with it, getting caught out in the rain with my phone can (and has) ended badly. If only LifeProof would heed our calls...
Being that this thread is from November, I don't think it's gonna happen. Best you'll get, is a trident aegis or Ballistic with port covers.

Sorry to disappoint you but does not apply to N5. The case I was referring to was for Samsung S4.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/111156742485?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
I was saying that whoever made that case for S4 should try to make similar case for N5 and that they would prob be able to corner the market fairly easily given there is still not really decent cheap waterproof shockproof slim case for N5.
I want to inform you that I just had a little talk with someone from Otterbox.
I asked him if they were planning make a case for the Nexus 5. After disappearing for 10 minutes he just told me that they are not planning on making a case for that device!
Too bad! My colleague has it on his Iphone and my mom on her S4, and I think Otterbox cases are great.
Any recommendation for something similar? I'm pretty rough with my phones :/

Trident cases are better in every way, well known with those who use such cases. Also, I would trust nothing that *someone at Otterbox* told you. Odds are, they were talking out of their ass unless you happen to know someone in the RnD department.

Very, very true. I once used Otterbox commuter cases (Hero and GS2), but then I discovered the Trident Aegis and it literally is better in every way on the GS2. I even bought more of them for my family members. Trident uses dust filters over the speakers and mic that really help keep debris out of those very important openings on the phone. I did however have a bad experience with a defective (or maybe poorly designed) Kraken case from Trident. It was made of a much cheaper feeling plastic and the power button broke off on the first time I used it. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that the item I got was a lemon. I hope they make an Aegis for the N5, I bet it will be great.

It seems that every time when a new nexus device comes out. There is always a thread similar to this. Otterbox are not very friendly towards nexus devices, there are alternatives out there.
As I always say, don't beg a company to make a case for a particular phone. If they don't make it, go to a competitor of Otterbox and give them your money instead.
