I think there are a few questions before answering this. What Samsung TV, I don't think all will be compatible. The newer Samsung Smart TVs work and yes there is a Samsung TV app in the market...works great
if it can run Android apps the yes!
If it can't go get a Logitech REVUE of $100

Not sure if this will help, but if you have cable/dish most companies have remote apps, i'm using the FIOS remote app.

I've done a lot of searches and found a lot of people have the same problem, but I haven't been able to find a fix. I just got the MHL adapter, YouTube works great, the phone in landscape works great, but when I open Netflix and try to watch a movie, the sides of the screen get cut off like I'm trying to watch a normal standard definition channel or something. Is there any work around to make it show in widescreen on the tv? I mean, it shows in widescreen on the phone, why doesn't it on the tv?
Bump

Use this app to force rotation
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.fameit.rotate_license
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
It does it on both the stock4.0.4 and cm9. Its not the rotation that's the problem, it rotates fine, Netflix is just isn't showing up as widescreen on the TV.

Yeah, I'm finding a lot of people with mhl not working, I'm not finding any solutions on Netflix not showing up as widescreen. If I'm missing something and I'm completely retarded, I'm sorry, but if you have a link to the solution, that would be awesome.
Um are u sure your adapter is working

Everything else is working fine. YouTube comes in widescreen , the phone in landscape comes in widescreen. When you're waiting for the movie to play, the big red screen that says netflix is widescreen . It's just the movie that ends up not widescreen. Like I said, I've seen lots of people with the same problem, I just haven't been able to find a solution.

Hi, I have been looking for a possible solution for this issue as well. Actually, prior to ICS, I was getting full wide screen with mhl-hdmi out (to TV) with netflix. I have always thought the netflix upgrade messed up the output, but now I'm starting to think it may be related to the upgraded ROM.
Actually, I believe the issue is that we are not getting a mirror of the screen because subtitles also don't show up on the TV.
I'm now on JB, the issue persists.
I have the sane problem running Netflix on galaxy smartdock with note 2, everything runs fullscreen except Netflix its super annoying just got newest update, no change, frustrating
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 2
Well... I was looking for this issue before I got the mhl because One description of mhl-adaptor says there was a license Problem with netflix... will give Update when it was delivered.
On The Touchwiz ones it instantly connects...but on CM10 its wonky and you have to reboot.
So how does it work for yall'?

Would it be possible to use the ir blaster to control a fan that has a built in ir receiver? P.s. the fan came with a remote that has an ir port

I'm curious to this as well. I'm wondering if it'll work with an AC. I have a feeling it won't though.

I have confirmed an app named smart remote for s4 working on controlling my mothers window air conditioner
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
I would love to see a truly universal remote app, NO TV guide, no other bloated CRAP, just a app that lets you tell it what kind of IR device you want to control and it says "Ok" and then starts blasting IR commands, and THAT'S IT.
I had a universal touch screen learning remote 12 years ago...why can't my damn $600 smart phone do that now?

Did you have to set it up or did you point it at the ac and click on?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Smart remote works great and the are loads of devices that can be controlled... If yours isn't available, just contact the developer. The only thing the app can't do is "learn", but that is because of the hardware anyway.

If you can figure out what the IR codes are, then you can control anything
I emailed the developer so hopefully he can include it

There is one.....it's called Smart Remote for Galaxy S4
Does anyone know how to add devices to the app?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
The developer(s) behind Smart Remote work FAST! My TV wasn't supported (Sigmac brand) and literally two days after I e-mailed the developer(s) about it, they e-mailed me back saying they had added support. It also works with my Vizio soundbar. Haven't tried my fan yet, though.
