hey folks. will it be possible to convert a normal edition of the new One to the Google Edition? I could get a sweet deal through T-mobile, but I want continued Android updates. thanks.
It should definitely be possible but may take a little while.
As done with the m7, @graffixnyc has created a thread here. All that's needed is for someone to get the GPE model and provide the needed info to him to get this up and running

So is the ATT, TMobile, Dev, and GPE versions all pretty much the same (with the exception of slightly different radios)? As in, will the GPE roms be easily flashable to the other versions (besides Verizon)?

I see that almost every Snapdragon variant of the S4 now has a GPE ROM, with our model running the system dump, which is pretty impressive. However, I'm wondering if there is a way to do a TOTAL conversion to GPE? What I mean is:
GPE bootloader
GPE firmware
GPE kernel
GPE partitioning (and available space)
OTA updates straight from Google (or wherever they ultimately come from)
No weird behavior
The only difference between the T-Mobile S4 and the S4 GPE, under my dream scenario, would be the model number on the sticker, and the fact that it would be available in black for us. So, is this possible? If so, how close are we? Right now, I can get the TMO S4 in black or white for $100, ($580 after payoff) versus $649 for white only on the GPE. But, I want a true GPE, not a custom ROM.

I would say that you MAY try when an odin tar is available. I am not 100% confident on that.
But the I9505G basically is identical to the M919.
Based on the photo from AnadTech, the FCC ID of I9505 is A3LSGHM919, which is exactly the same as the M919.
To my knowledge, any change in the hardware will require a new FCC certification.
Based on the fact that both devices share the same FCC ID, both devices are identical (use the same hardware)
The only different will be firmware/software.
UPDATE
FCC ID of other variants.
I337 - A3LSGHI337
I9505 - A3LGTI9505
L720 - A3LSPHL720
I9500 - A3LGTI9500
An ODIN Tar is likely what we need. This is the method used to switch my SGS2 from one country's firmware base to another, which gives it Kies/OTA support for that firmware. It can also be used to repartition (PIT file). Hopefully this happens.
I decided not to hedge my bets. In the end, while I generally prefer black phones, I think the SGS4 looks as good as if not better in white. So, my choices are GPE for $650, or T-Mobile variant currently on sale for $580. Being as anal as I am, I would buy the international backplate to get the T-Mobile logo off. I'd probably pay to get it sim-unlocked (if I didn't buy the phone outright). I have no plans to use Touchwiz. So, rather than hope for a total conversion, or settle for the quirks that come with a GPE ROM instead of the real thing, I'm just going to buy the real thing.
Check around in the international thread. I believe a guy around there has rhe odin tae flashed except the .pit for partitioning and the bootloader

I've searching and came across this, I'm also wondering the same thing. I thought it might be done by now but here's to hope!
ditto
I would be very interested in this. A lot of space that could be useful.
Does anyone think they'll be able to convert the M8 into the Google Play Edition like the M7? I'm assuming it will be possible and I know nobody knows for sure, but I'm looking for a slight amount of reassurance in my purchasing of the M8 Dev Edition. Not only does it make sense for me from a financial standpoint (the Dev Edition is $50 cheaper and I wouldn't have to pay sales tax like I do on Google Play, so I'm saving about $80), I'm also interested in trying out the new Sense 6.0 features for a while. That being said, after a month or so I'll probably be craving stock Android and will want to make the switch. Are there any Devs or any people who have more knowledge than I do that might be working on such an option in the near future? Thanks!
I also would like to know this, looking to purchase mine from Rogers.
I'd assume once development gets going there probably will be a convert around.
EDIT: This thing is only a few hours old so far, gotta give it a little time :good:
I will be taking care of it just like I did for the m7
I have an AT&T version coming tomorrow and a dev edition next week. Once someone gets a gpe I'll walk them through pulling everything I need for the conversion process.. Of course we will need s-off to flash the ruu but I should be able to at least put one together off a gpe...

Sounds awesome! Being able to convert my AT&T M7 to a GPE was my favorite part of owning the phone.
I was just curious if all or some roms found here would be compatible with the various US versions of the M8, i am looking to upgrade from an EVO 4G LTE and have never had a phone where each carrier has their own version ( like the M8, M7, GS4, GS5, etc.). Im guessing most if not all AOSP roms would be compatible, but i noticed only some of the sense roms were compatible with the differet versions of the phone.
Any info would be greatly appreciated, and i look forward to joining this community!

I think they should be compatible and if not it would be mentioned in the rom thread. I know that viper supports some carriers or maybe all not sure
You'd really have to go and check in the specific ROM threads that you're thinking about flashing. Some do. Some don't.
Thanks I just got my m8 actually can't wait to unlock this bad boy

Hi all,
After a year on Samsung S3, S4 and S5 i could not stand the lag and freezing so decided to go with HTC One M8.
Before getting one read a lot of the new M8 and was very enthusiastic because I loved SENSE when it was first introduced....I think its the best out there and after years of using other android and even an iOS I can say that Sense rules.....and then I got an M8 google edition ;(
Its boring and simple and my new M8 is not an HTC anymore. I want Sense back!
Buuuuut someone decide to give me trouble and after whole night I have a TEMPERED, rooted and still S-ON M8 on GE.... Firewater is not working....is there another way to put sense on my phone and get rid of this miserable GEB vanilla rubbish....
Firewater was designed for CDMA devices. Your device should work fine with the standard unlock via HTC Dev

Just a though, if you don't like GPE edition, in first hand you shall buy Sense edition not the GPE and you will trouble free.
I also never like GPE and I will always make sure won't get GPE edition.
So you wanted Sense and bought a GPE version? That seems.... stupid. Trade it in? Sell it on eBay and buy a non-GPE?
Gpe probably hates you just as much.

Hi everyone, iam looking forward to buying the m9 soon, it is going to be the AT&T version. Usually in the ATT forums on xda there are many different threads almost everyday, but in the case of the htc one m9 there are hardly any new threads. Mostly the development threads are empty. So my question is, is there something i should know, like everyone converting to an unlocked m9 and discussing threads in this specific m9 forum? if no one is converting and there are no ATT threads then it would be rather pointless to get the ATT m9, i might as well buy the galaxy s6
I'm selling my unlocked M9 on swappa if interested!

This post is irrelevant to the question
95% of the activity is in the main M9 forum. Everything over here is usable on the AT&T M9. I got my M9 from AT&T and have been running WWE stuff on it from the beginning with no issues.
if you dont have an m8 then go for m9....
if ypu have something else like the m8 then go for m10 when released....
if you have money enough and dont care.....buy the m9 now and 6 months later m10...i will do this ;D
Thank you for clearing that up, but are the regular roms flashable on AT&T or do i need to change my cid
I just got my M9 and I'm loving it!
Actually I ordered both M9 and Galaxy S6 but decided to return the Samsung after trying out both in a couple of stores.
M9 is soooo much more refined to use both physically and in software.
I would buy this again in an eyeblink!
Changing to supercid is not necessary, but does make life easier if you want to update your firmware. Has nothing to do with the roms.
did the exact same thing. S6 was just ****ty touchwiz and made the entire phone lagged no matter what I did. HTC's software is just more polished and better, and with cm12.1 almost fully functional this phone will be awesome.
