Mc2 or mk4 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

Which version do you prefer? I have used many roms of both types and prefer MC2 manily for stability. I have noticed only one big difference between the two.. When I use my blue tooth no matter what MC2 based rom I used, and I have used many.. During a call sometimes it will disconnect and I have to turn it off then on again to reconnect. This I have not noticed with MK4 based roms.. I wish I knew what the difference was between the two or I would incorporate it into my MC2 rom I use.. Pluse sometimes it would give me a annoying buzzing sound and I have to turn it off as well.. Love to hear what your opinions are on each..

I prefer Mk4 with the right rom
For the longest time I was using whompasaurus which I believe to be ma7? The most stable rom I've been able to find for the L900.
The MK4 roms all seemed so buggy and missing features I was used to but Team Venum just updated their MK4 rom and I've switched over and I don't think I will go back. I use bluetooth all the time and I haven't had any issues like the ones you are talking about.

Can't beat a stock mc2 with Perseus kernel. Just flash a couple mods. Fast smooth and not a single issue

roam control
Another interesting thing to Note (no pun intended) is that the application "Roam Control" doesn't seem to want to work on MK4 roms from what I have heard and experienced, while it does play nice with MC2.

I prefer MC2 but i do get the same issue you do most times with bluetooth but thats kinda normal at times
im trying to move over to MK4 because its really built for 4.3 and MC2 is mainly 4.1
but the modems can work other places

I have the MK4 Modem on my MC2 rom.. I'm wondering if you can flash a MK4 radio as well.. Plus does anyone know how to get rid of the annoying sprint update notification on these MC2 roms.. Each time it pops up I just hit install, let it fail, and it is only good for a couple of days.. Most of the MK4 roms I have used, they seem to freeze up or do random reboots, which require a battery pull. I never had that issue with MC2 which is rock solid IMOP.. Plus the perseus kernel, I will get on average 2 days on a battery unless I talk all the time, then It will still give me 16hrs worth of life..

I have been cruising @digiblur 4.3 MK4 Rom found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2157332 as my daily drive from the day it came across the board and have not had any issues at all, no lockups, no random reboots none of those horror stories you read about in other threads

Check out this thread, for some information on "FOTAKill", which can help get rid of that nag; it was written for the S3, but it's working fine for me on digiblur mc2 on my Note2.

When i got my note 2 (mc2 was current base) I had nothing but problems with lockups on tw roms. So I stuck with aosp. Since mk4 I have not had these issues. Recently (last week) went back and tried pinky and the brain again. I always wanted to use it but like all the other touchwiz roms it just wouldn't run right. I tried different kernels, bootloaders, and radio/firmware combos all without luck. It just goes to show that each phone is different.

[Q] EG22 random reboot

So as the title states, my Epic has been plagued by random reboots since installing EG22. The unit was a new replacement, not a refurbished replacement that tech support normally gives. I've had it all of four weeks now. It ran EF02 pretty perfectly. I have tried reloading EC05 (with ODIN) then loading EG22, and no dice. Before I flash EG22 I wipe the phone, cache, and dalvik 3 times. I've also redownloaded and hash checked the EG22 update I use (using the stock/deodexed EG22 update.zip from the development forum). Still no improvement, the phone will randomly reboot every 1-2 hours. Any advice on what I could try next is appreciated.
radugb out
UPDATE: also I cannot get into the "SYSTEM UPDATES" menu in the Settings/About Phone menu. Each time I try I get a forced close then a system reboot. Could the phone just not like EG22?
I have experienced reboots on both EE03 and EF02. I haven't tried EG22 as of yet. I hae never had it happen on EC05. I figure I'll just wait until the release because my phone just doesn't like the beta/leaked stuff.
Any test software has a chance that it will not work 100%
All Gingerbread leaks crash and reboot in low signal areas. I am assuming this is one of the reasons official hasn't been released yet.

Ok, but one I have an airave about 12 ft away from my phone so I get a great signal. And two, I'm still getting FC's when I try to enter the system updates menu. So I still think it could be something wrong with my phone.

How did you install EG22? If you did it through CWM it could have just been a bad flash. For the system menu problem. The crashes occur for me too, like above post low signal areas are not a gb leaks friend.
Sent using TouchPal Curve Input
I have been flashing zip versions thru CMW. I'll look up an ODIN-able EG22 tar or md5 and try it that way. But I will ODIN back to EC05 (with repartition to wipe the phone) then update to EG22. I'll let you all know.
As far a signal goes though, I'm getting full bars right now because my Airrave is so close to me.

You are right, that shouldn't happen with an Airave. A reflash may fix the issues you are having. Also don't use any CPU managers like SetCPU or Voltage Control on GB until source code and custom kernels show up.

Yup. That was it. Bad flash. This time I d/l'ed a .tar version of EG22 to flash with ODIN. Much better than before. No more FC's from the system menu and its been running 8 hours straight with no reboots. Muchas garcias.

Spoke too soon. I've had two random reboots, one yesterday, one today. So it definitely fits with what all y'all said that leaked GB ROMs tend to crash. Still not as bad as before, and I no longer get the FC's from the system updates menu.
I had one last night and one tonight at my house which I get a crap signal at in what Sprint describes as an "excellent coverage area" No other problems anywhere else.
I've had my first random reboot. Phone was WIFI connected, and forced roaming (Sprint has a tower down in my area, going on 7 days now). It was in the middle of a content update for an application I run, so I'm wondering if there is a memory leak for the network user or kernel space.
Does anyone know of an application that will keep a log of memory usage to track if a process is not releasing its resources?
Yup, same here. About once every two days I get a reboot. I haven't been able to connect anything I'm doing to the reboots, and it usually does it while the phone is just sitting.
Trouble is, Gingerbread is soooo much better than Froyo I don't want to go back
I really think it is the modem crashing.
You may want to try another modem.
also, i realised that on my wife's epic with eg22, it rebooted about 5 times a day, most of the time, it was right after using the slide out keyboard.
i deleted the keyboard counter slide apk thingy, since then, 1 reboot a day.
not great, but definitely better than 5.

Are you sure it is not a loose battery connection? My phone would do that with the extended battery and case. Had to put a little piece of thick paper in there to hold it tighter.
Definitely was the modem. I flashed the EE02 modem & now no random reboots. Signal(s) & battery life have gotten better too. I would have flashed the EF02/EF10 modem but that downgrade notice is oh so damn annoying!
Me and my friend have the same issue on our Epics OP, Its annoying but Im dealing with it cause these roms are so much better than pre eg22.
I dont have any random reboots but I get a random double vibrate. I have no idea where that is coming from
I've had two random boots since I've odin'd from EC05.. though I feel it was memory leak, and the phone just shutdown without sufficcient ram.
SchizioPunk's Epic Experience 2.1 Eclair -> Odin to EC05 Froyo. Rooted. Bloatware Removed. Voodoo Sound V9 Module Loaded. TouchWiz4. Enjoying my Customized Stock Experience.
Yeah well I tried the EH06 modem and it broke the 4G (amongst other things). So I got ol' reliable EE03 to fall back on.

To Flash or not to Flash (Modem)

As you can see in my Sig, I'm on EH17 Deodexed (Deca's version)
When I was on EG22 Deodexed, I would get 2-3 reboots, then it came to the point where if my phone was being used, it'd reboot. Lmao. -_- I tolerated crap like that for like 2 weeks I think? Anyway, I finally decided to upgrade to EH17 once it got Deodexed, thing is, I'm still on EG22 Modem and after cwm flashing EH17, my reboots are now 1-2 a day. But without fail, it DOES reboot. Almost like there's a timer setup for a reboot. Anyway to get to the point. I believe I've always been on stock Kernel, I don't think its ever changed since EC05.
My concern is to lessen or perhaps STOP the reboot..
Should I: Switch to EH17 modem?
Flash a kernel? I don't want extra crap in a kernel that overclocks or hogs battery, or is in any way less stable than stock.
Thoughts?
P.S. I'm not interested in Custom Roms, I love stock and prefer to modify my rom to my liking.
Did you try flashing Juwe's RAM script or installing the V6 supercharger and Script Manager? CompKid baked in Juwe's RAM script on Urban Decay and I didn't get reboots on that ROM. I don't think you will eliminate reboots my changing modems. Everyone is getting them regardless of modem or version of leaked ROM.

That sounds like the RAM leak where those apps that open on their own get you to that point where it reboots. I started keeping Maps and Google+ either frozen or uninstalled while on a GB ROM

Yeah Same here. Roms, Rooting, Leaks, nothing has been perfect no matter what Phone I have had.
The More you do or apps you have put stress on your phone, even keeping it on certain programs to equal out and keeping up with the phone. Sooner or later it will decide to completely shut down and restart on its own or go black and flash back to screen and reload and scan everything.
This is what we get for playing with leaks. Even if we fix it. Everything has its issues. Some smaller than others, usually nothing to worry about.

Delay when answering/placing calls post 4.3

So I recently upgraded to 4.3 stock rom, rooted and I don't think I have Knox. Anyways everything works fine with the exception of phone calls. Whenever someone calls me and I pickup, it takes about 10 seconds before the speaker/mic turn on. There is also a delay in the speak/mic when I place calls. Any ideas on what happened? This is actually the second time I've upgraded to 4.3 and the last time I went back to 4.1.2 it fixed the same issue. I'm running version L710VPUCMK3

I flashed cnexus' ROM rooted/odexed.
I have this exact same issue.
I have two phones ported to Ting. Both running rooted stock 4.3 without Knox.
Ting has tried a few things on their end. Nothing has helped.
I use my phone for work and have annoyed a few people in other departments with the 'hello, (pause) hello?, pause um HELLO?' before either of us can hear the other. I've gotten to the point where I answer the phone, take a breath, put the phone to my ear, count to 2, actually say hello. Sometimes I still have to say 'hello' again.
Try turning off the noise reductioN feature
CNexus,
Your suggestion helped but did not solve the problem. Went from 3 hellos plus pauses to being heard on the 2nd hello.
Ring, ring, see the call pop up on screen, slide to answer, slight pause to verify the phone answered, hold to ear, hello, nothing hello? and I was heard.
Better, but not perfect. I could live with it if I have to.
Think I may flash through a few roms this weekend and then return to this one. See if it solves itself the rest of the way with another rom.
I've been having similar issues. Sometimes the other caller can hear me but I can't hear them and vice versa. And some calls are 'choppy'. I also get a big delay after dialing sometimes.
I flashed back to stock md4, I will report back later today after some phone call tests.
So I'm still having the same issues on md4, stock. It must be hardware related.
I'm having the exact same issues! Takes some getting used to.
I just odined back to stock md4, I'll check back after some calls
Not yet
Having a delay in answer and calls showing up also.
So far my calls have been much better after using Odin to go back to stock md4. I'm wary of flashing mk3 now.

Yeah I've never had a problem with stock MD4. Sadly I really like 4.3 and would hate to have to go back. Anyone have a link to just a stock fully functional MK3 modem I can try and force in through odin? I'm pretty green on this stuff but it's obviously just the modem that has an issue...or am I wrong here?
I flashed back to MOAR 8.0 this morning, I'm hoping the call issues don't return. I saw an Odin flashable modem in the development section so you might want to look there.

I actually found this about 15min ago and just did some testing with a friend and the delay is gone. I can now make and receive calls without any delay in the mic/speaker! The modem (as well as my rom) are from CNexus I really didn't think it was going to work but it did and I'm stoked! Thanks everyone for generating some talk on this odd problem.

[Q] Graphic glitches and other problems

So I've been having a bit of trouble with my t989 lately, when I try unlocking the phone I will either get a black screen (the lock screen will appear for a split second before going blank if I hit the lock button again) or it won't track my finger movements on the screen. If I manage to unlock the device I end up seeing numerous graphic glitches ranging from the bar at the top w/ the clock/battery meter just gone and the keyboard not working.
I'm runing CM9.0.0 because I had issues with 10.2 (battery wouldn't charge) and 10.1.3 (similar to my lock screen issues but not as severe, still agitating) and also 9.1 which had the same exact issues as I'm having now. I've tried installing with different gapps but the same thing happens. The phone will work for a day or two, then the glitches come. After resetting, everything is normal for a day or so, then it's normal a few hours, etc. The time is getting narrower between reboots and it's a bit frustrating.
Does anyone know what I could be doing wrong, if anything? I flash via twrp and wipe, then install the rom, then install gapps, then reboot, wait 20min, reboot, and go about my business w/ the setup and such. I would be fine going back to 10.1.3 but jellybean roms and snapchat don't really like to work together on this phone for some reason. It's really the only app I use because it seems like the only way my friends want to communicate nowadays, so I'd prefer to stay on ics if possible...
If anyone can give any insight I'd really appreciate it

Have you tried using Odin to flash back to stock? That is usually the recommended step if you are having problems with custom ROMs.
And the newest stock is 4.1.2, so at least you wouldn't have to be on ICS.

I'll give that a try. Odin is just the program used to root originally, correct? Also, I want to stay on ICS if possible. So after doing that I'm going to try CM9 again and see how that works.
Anyway, the past few days I've been using AOKP mr2 milestone 1 and it's been okay. For some reason the battery life is bad even with juice defender and a task killer taking care of things. In a matter of minutes after clearing tasks I'm down from ~350mb of ram free to 60. Is that normal with that rom?
I'm not sure what to do at this point. I'm not the best with technology but i figured i was smart enough to figure this out...
bump.
I still haven't tried flashing w/ odin yet. Does anyone know where I can find a gingerbread stock rom? I've been looking for a while and can only find the jellybean one. Since I want to stay on ICS what I want to do is go from gingerbread and up to that rather than downgrading from the jellybean stock rom if that makes sense.

[Q] Phone has been acting erratically since 4.3

I got the Galaxy Gear back in December so I had to make the jump to 4.3 on my T-mo Note 2. I flashed via ODIN and it got connected with the Gear and everything was pretty much fine, except that the phone was INCREDIBLY slow now that I was on a stock Samsung ROM. Well last month I was tired of it being slow and having absolutely awful battery life, so I rooted again and flashed Jedi Master X2, since it's the only custom ROM I could find that has Samsung's applications for the Gear and S-Pen. I had had a lot of success with Jedi X17-X20 and Jedi Master X1 so I thought X2 would be just as great.
Since I've put on Jedi Master X2 the phone has sped up a little, but there are a number of things that are very wrong with it. For one, batter life is even worse than the stock Samsung ROM. I'm lucky to get 6 hours with minimal usage. On older Jedi Master or Jedi X ROMs I would get at least 12-24 hours depending on how heavy usage was. Maybe my battery is shot, it's been over a year, but I'm not sure.
The second issue is the phone is still slow to react to input. Whether that input is hitting the power button, home button, menu or back keys, or touch screen, it takes at least 2 extra seconds to recognize input if the phone hasn't been touched in a few minutes or if I've been using it for more than 5min.
The third issue is the biggest: Every few minutes I will lose signal completely and it will say my SIM is not inserted. This is the most annoying problem I've ever had with this phone. I can't get through a single phone call without dropping signal, unless I'm on Wi-Fi calling and then there is an awful echo on the other person's end of their own voice.
Has anyone else had issues with updating to 4.3? How can I solve these issues? I really don't want to flash my phone AGAIN. I've tried re-flashing Jedi Master X2, and that didn't solve any of the problems.

1) Jedi Master is a work in progress with a very busy Dev. Try a custom kernel such as Agni from the N7105 forum and play with settings.
2) See above
3) Change SELinux to permissive for data drop issues. Can't tell you about sim card issue but it couldn't hurt in diagnosing the situation. Either do it in exposed or selinux changer from the market.
