I found that one too from a web search. The article said it didn't have much support for a variety of devices, which I couldn't confirm nor deny, so I went ahead and installed disable services from the market. That did the trick. I don't think I have to worry too much about it because I'm not on ATT, I'm on Straight talk. But still the services for it running on my phone and taking up usable memory had to stop.
Do you have a carrier iq
Detector. I use voodoo after I run the logging test app to verify it worked.

Yeah I used two. Carrier IQ Red Pill and Carrier IQ detector. Both said I have it. I used the disable services to stop it but I still have the two system processes running. /system/lib/libiq_client.so and /system/lib/libiq_service.so. Any way to disable them? Rename them maybe or?
EDIT: I went ahead and bought that app you linked me too, doesn't hurt to support our devs, I installed the v14 version but I'm unclear on how to use it. What steps do I take?

I renamed those files and disabled services IQService and Tethering$entitlementCheckService and stopped receiving text messages so I enabled them again then renamed files back and used Autostarts to disable Android System>After Startup (IQ Agent Autostarter) , now Voodoo CarrierIQ detector says "Carrier IQ elements found however it seems inactive".
I did not test which one of those caused the problem of not receiving text messages.
Well I really hope this is removed in the 4.4 update, if we get it that is, cause this is just down right intrusive. Carriers are going way to far these days. People pay allot of money for their phones. They have the right to do with them as they please. Carriers are making it so you never really "own" your phone, it's just leased to you for life. Much like Microsoft does with their software. I don't know about anyone else but if I drop 200 or more for a phone I own it. Kiss my ass I will do as I please with MY PROPERTY!
ver. 10k for e980 have it

From the first screen hit the tOP option.
Its labeled "Installed package options loggers adware CIQ"
Then hit your menus button and the options will pop up.
Remove loggers.
Remove CIQ.
Wipe adware logs.
I do all three.

Ok. Thanks esimon
EDIT: I finished doing a backup then ran the app. Everything seems to be fine. So far anyway. I did notice when I ran Red Pill I get an "Unknown" for the status and says there doesn't appear to be any ciq processes running. Is that what you get esimon?
I use voodoo
It says elements of CIQ were found but not active. And I don't see the CIQ wake lock in better battery status app.

lemme know here where you'll be posting it... I'm super interested to get rid of CIQ, especially since it's a waste of battery life. I generally customize my ROMs with almost nothing left as far as background processes are concerned. My i9100 gets a 1-2 day battery life because of it, lol.
Not sure if this is the correct way but,
I rooted and installed root uninstaller..
Browsed tab where it says all programs.. looked through and found three programs starting with iQ...
I un installed all three.
when I did root checker after it said carrier iq was not detected on my device.
(previous to removal it said it WAS present on my device.
Hope this helps

The issue with simply removing APKs is that the calls are still being sent by the framework. That does not satisfy me. I want it entirely gone.

I tried a number of apps on google play store that detect CarrierIQ and none detected CarrierIQ. Only one (Voodoo Carrier IQ Detector) said there maybe some elements of CarrierIQ but it was inactive. I believe that program produce a false positive since looking at comments it said everything has element of CarrierIQ. The programs I used are Carrier IQ Detector, Voodoo Carrier IQ Detector, Anti Carrier IQ, Bitdefender Carrier IQ Finder, TrustGo Carrier IQ Detector, Carrier IQ Scanner, and Carrier IQ Red Pill.

You're given the option to turn it off, and that's the best you've got, but I don't trust it.
Glad the same method still works. I haven't gotten around to trying it yet, but I was going to suggest it..
Will unchecking it from Droid Wall do the trick temporarily?
Rooted and uninstalled these 3 in Titanium Backup:
"system manager toggle"
"system manager application"
"system manager notification"
Then I went to the /System/CSC/ folder in Root explorer and edited both the Feature.xml and Other.xml files
Using Root explorer you long press the on the filename until a menu comes up. Choose to open with Text editor.
The text is at the bottom.
<!-- CIQ -->
<CSCFeature_CIQ_BroadcastState>true</CSCFeature_CIQ_BroadcastState>
Change true to false in this section of BOTH of these files and save and reboot.
The old files before editing will be saved with a .bak extension.
Worked great for me.

That's the one I used too. It costs just $1 in US. You can also use a free version, it will report dll files from system/lib that belongs to carrier IQ which you can delete manually, but using the application is easier and safer.

are you trying to say that the AT&T G Pro doesn't have Carrier IQ? when did we start talking about the s3? also yes it is AT&T Allowing Carrier IQ in the phones as they stated in many websites. and yes My AT&T E980 does have Carrier IQ.
can't be a google thing coz no carrier IQ in Korean F240 model.....maybe US thing?
I have International E989 version and no CIQ Logger was found, maybe it's not LG or Google that insert it in other versions.
Guys it does not matter who put ciq on the device.. Most probably it is AT&T as they have a direct interest in doing so... However what is important is to know how to remove it.. Whoever has been successful, can he make a step by step guide and post here please? Also does the treve app work on the e980?

And it appears to have worked some residual files remain so some CIQ checkers still may say you still have CIQ. But the ones that go into detail tell me. Some CIQ files remain but CIQ is inactive.

Following your advice I downloaded the app and bough the key. Sure enough CIQ is there, turning on my GPS every thirty minutes, which wears down my battery (particularly indoors when it keeps it on and searching for the duration of my time within a building). I'm just a bit nervous of taking the step of automatically removing CIQ using the app. I trust the app and the developer 100%; it's bricking my phone that I'm worried about!

I am rooted but have not installed freegee and cwm yet, so cannot backup my current setup....I know a backup is important , but if not, can this procedure be considered safe? Did you see any abnormal behavior (boot up issues, system issues) after doing this? Also , any significant change in battery life?
Sent from my LG-E980 using Tapatalk
I've seen no adverse effects except a significant increase in battery life due to the GPS not turning on anymore. I did not backup at all, as there is nothing to delete! You just uncheck a few system processes using System Tuner, reboot, and then CarrierIQ should be not functional anymore!
G2V4 installed and no carrier IQ detected..problem solved..lol..

Well I removed CarrierIQ from the ATT E980 and you get a significant amount of RAM back to the device. I have noticed that 1.01GB of ram is being used while I now have 1011MB free, or pretty much 1 GB free. The only thing that happens is I get 2 to 3 FC's during boot-up.
I am using the stock rom on 10k rooted and unlocked

I managed to remove Carrier IQ in ATT E980 kitkat(official rom)
Guys, I'm not a developer or anything so - Try this at your own risk.
With that said. This is what worked for me.
My G pro is on ATT stock kitkat 4.4.2.
Carrier IQ and other loggers were killing the battery, and there is the privacy and security issue.
So after spending long time figuring out what to do, I couldn't find anything solid. Some advice from here, some from there, a little hit and trial and boom no CIQ finally.
I thought I'll put this up, if this works for you guys then there will be a concrete method for everyone.
I write down the steps I took, as I took them. You can simply go to PART 2 and see if that is all is needed for CIQ to go away.
PART -1
Steps -
1) Root your device.
2) Get Logging test app (by TrevE) from google playstore.
3) Go pro, get license.
4) Use the app to scan for loggers.
5) Choose to remove loggers and CIQ from options. Reboot accordingly.
Now I still had CIQ and loggers after this. But it deleted the logs that were created. I also noticed an extra .15gb of free ram after reboot that was definitely not there before. So I recommend it. I personally thought this was beneficial.
PART - 2
Rename libiq_client.so and libiq_service.so found in /system/lib device folder. Then reboot.
I'm not sure if you need root to do this. Mine was rooted when I did.
I found CIQ was gone after this.
Well, that's it guys. Hope this helps you all.

I checked with following apps and these were the results -
1) Carrier IQ Detector (Lookout one) - Your device does not have carrier IQ (Was showing that I did earlier).
2) Logging app by Treve - CIQ does not exist (Was showing that it existed earlier).
3) Voodoo Carrier IQ Detector 2.0.5 - Carrier IQ found ans is active. Detection score is 200 [ The app description says it returns false positive.]
4) Carrier IQ spy - Carrier IQ is installed and running.
Seems you have a point. CIQ may not have been completely removed.

I couldn't find it either and using CarrierIQ Scanner and Bitdefender Carrier IQ Finder both stated "Carrier IQ not found".
However, Carrier IQ Red Pill comes back with "There is a Very Strong evidence of CarrierIQ being installed on this device." It listed 3 Active Processes - iqd, iqmsd, and iqbridged - with iqd as a "positive" test.
Haven't tried messing with deleting it yet, but it does seem Tmobile is trying to bury it a little deeper with Lollipop.

The only thing I've found so far is the LTDDM folder in system/app; which I removed completely

I'm rather confused by this thread. Is the poster asking what will 'break' if you disabled all the bloatware? Or asking something else entirely? Cause you can disable everything that comes on any phone and it'll always work just fine.
And I have no idea what Android 7.0 would have to do with bloatware, or what KNOX would have to do with bloatware...

I can't speak for the O.P.,but,my guess is, as with me, just making sure that it works before purchasing the Note 7,especially for those of us with the Snapdragon powered versions that may have no other way to disable bloat.
JMHO, but, the Q&A regarding functionality of PDP, whatever they may be, are of merit & might as well have a thread addressing the subject.
Most realize you can disable the bloat, but,not everyone, including yours truly, understand exactly how it works & why only on Samsung devices.
The Knox tie-in makes sense to me, even without a full understanding of how it works.

KNOX doesn't make much sense to me, because that's just a security platform. It just makes sure you protected from being 'hacked' per say. As in like, it adds an extra layer of security over your phone so someone can't just pick it up and plug it into a computer to gain access to all of your stuff. Though thats only the very loosest of analogies.
But I have to ask what you exactly mean by the "not everyone understands exactly how it works and why only on Samsung devices". Do you mean as in why disabling works? or something else. Because you can disable the bloatware on any android phone so long as the carrier and manufacturer didn't lock the option out. Which most devices will let you do it now because of the whole 'you'll get sued for forcing users to use a specific thing without giving them a way out' (an example would be microsoft getting sued over the bundling of Internet Explorer and Microsoft Office with the earlier Windows OS's).
What I'm wondering is, based on the title of the thread after thinking about it some, does the OP mean an app that disables/uninstalls bloat? Because I'm sure there are plenty of apps out there that do it. But most I think require Root in order to do it properly and reliably. I use Sprint for my service, and its Sprint ID and such are a pain in the ass, and they can't just be 'disabled' easily even though there is the option to (every time you disable it, Sprint just re-installs it the next time you reboot the phone because it thinks it got uninstalled somehow). But to get it to disable properly on my Note 5, I had to install some random app that I think was called App Quarantine. It looked like a bio-hazard symbol for the icon. I haven't re-installed it since this last wipe I was forced to do, so I can't remember exactly lol. But it was the only one that would let me actually disable the Sprint ID stuff and not have it re-install all the time.

Yes it's an app in the Google Play Store that has the ability to disable literally anything on Samsung devices,WITHOUT ROOT, so, care must be taken to not get carried away & I recommend only disabling, not deleting, in the event of not being able to take an update otherwise.
Not everything can be disabled natively, so, that explains the appeal of the app.
If you used it, you'd see the tie-in with Knox........

Then that makes alot more sense. I originally just thought they were basically asking if there was an app to disable everything instead of having to do it manually. I've always just manually disabled everything cause its not that hard to do. Just find the troublesome things and hit that disable button lol. But if this can do it all in one quick swoop, then I'm all in =O I'll definitely be looking into it later today when my phone finally arrives...
Sprint screwed up my pre-order, and is sending me the wrong device, so I have to take it into a store to get it exchanged because they refused to cancel my pre-order or change the order at all even though I legitimately ordered the dang thing 2 minutes past midnight on the 3rd. So ontop of that, they also didn't ship the phone when they said they would, AND the put restrictions on my package. I normally have to physically go to a UPS location to pick up my packages cause the dumb driver will never deliver to my house... always states that they can't find my house even though its the ONLY house down the ONLY long driveway... heck you can SEE my house above the trees! But nope, the guy wont deliver. But because of the restrictions, UPS wont let me flag the package as 'hold for pickup' like usual, so I gotta stand at the end of my drive way for hours upon hours just to catch the UPS driver. Then I gotta drive all the way into town to HOPEFULLY exchange the phone for the Black Onyx variant that I was supposed to get...
Anyway, sorry for the ramble o-o; didn't realize it was that long XD

It's a nice tool to have, a powerful one.
Just a friendly piece of advice :
Read up on it before using, check the FAQs on the developers site if need be & go conservative at 1st if you're not familiar with what is safe to disable.
The app gives color-coded guidelines per each app on what is known to be safe to disable. You can go above and beyond that, but, mainly, just disable, do not delete anything & leave the stock keyboard alone.
You might be able to disable the stock launcher, provided you have another one installed, but, I'd leave it alone until you're certain one way or the other........

Lol I'd only disable the things I already know I need to disable. Like all the Sprint stuff. I leave the Samsung stuff alone cause I actually use alot of Samsung's things. But as for Sprint's stuff? All of that goes bye bye lol. Now that is assuming it doesn't somehow show things that you normally can't see from the applications manager. In which case then I wouldn't bother, cause I don't see much of a point lol.
there are a few package disabler for Samsung out there, which one the best?

Go with either one,the Pro+ has a hardware lockdown feature, otherwise, there two are identical:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ospolice.packagedisablerpro&hl=en
I'm guessing Samsung still has a partnership w/Cheetah Mobile, which is one of the main reasons I like having this app,Package Disabler Pro,on-board to ward off the data mining/crapware/etc...
However,I'm not seeing anything in the apps, system or otherwise, that's jumping out & identifying itself as CheetahMobile/CleanMaster/etc.......
I'm guessing it's some/all of the apps identified w/the "Smart" moniker, but,I'm not 100% certain on that.
Anyone have an idea on which,if any,of the apps are actual CheetahMobile bloatware?
Thanks In Advance!
Using EZ Disabler here. Works well, but you gotta be careful using "disable bloat" part as it will turn off many useful things. I just went through and picked what i wanted. Very Easy to use though
Thanks for recommending Package Disabler Pro. I was worried Since not rooted. In past had always used TB . This worked Great!!

Why would you guys use an app for disabling stuff.
Since we're on xda, enable USB debugging and use pm (package manager) cmd from adb shell.
For instance: adb shell pm hide 'package'
There are other interesting options: list, install, uninstall.

I see your point, but i would also say there is a ease to the app though. Whatever works best for people. Im just glad there are options.
