4.4.2 update - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hi folks,
I'm trying to update from 4.3 (stock) to 4.4.2 using the twrp (update.zip method).
I see some error saying, Peel.apk has unexpected contents. I copied the update.zip
at the root of external card and tried to do update. My phone is rooted, has custom recovery.
Can that be the problem? What are the steps to update to 4.4.2 stock? Do I need to use odin?
If yes, where do I find the stock firmware?
Please help!.

[Q] How to undo root?

All I did was root and installed cwm. I keep getting firmware upgrade notifications and when I try it fails and I'm guessing it's because my phone is rooted and has cwm installed. I'm on Rogers. Is this an update to JB? If so, how can I install it? Do I just have to go back to stock recovery?

Use odin 3.07 and flash the firmware from http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/
You need to join (free) log in and search for the firmware by model #, download and use odin to return you to stock out of the box.

How do I unroot when on stock (rooted) 4.3 firmware?

I am on firmware 4.3 that I rooted a while ago. I would like to unroot 4.3 however I cannot figure out how. I thought I could flash stock 4.3 via Odin but there are no .tar versions of 4.3. Help?

Do you have the full stock version of 4.3 or the modified (unrooted) version? You can check your phone's settings and build number to see if it's MJB or MJ2. You can try unrooting from the SuperSU app. The definitive solution to unrooting is indeed to flash a complete stock image. An Odin flashable *.tar file was recently developed. There have, however, been reports on outcome. You can flash custom recovery to your phone (either of CWM or TWRP) and use the instructions in the thread below to download and flash a complete stock restore.

You don't have to update to 4.1.2 to update to 4.3.
If you go with a custom ROM, you will keep root. Although, if you flash stock ROM with Odin, you will lose it.
Mobile Odin can be used to flash (don't interrupt it), if you wish to go that route. No special instructions.
You can also flash using Odin (PC version), once again, don't interrupt it. You'll have to unzip and use the PDA file.
Finally, if you wanna flash a custom ROM, you can install TWRP, which you can get from GooManager on the Play Store (menu then install recovery). That will let you flash a custom ROM in recovery.
Now before you do any of that, please take the time to read and fully understand what you are doing, w/e option you choose to go with.

You can only flash the zips via recovery. Download both zip files to your PC and copy to a good quality micro SD card. Place the card in your phone and boot your phone to recovery mode. First you flash the 4.1.2 zip, then reboot to recovery again and repeat the process with the 4.3 zip.
Yes, you will lose root and you may lose your downloaded files which is why you need to do a back-up before updating. Once you have updated to 4.3, you can re-root your phone.

[Q] 4.4.2 OTA fails at 28% INSTALL

I've unrooted, done a factory wipe several times and each time my install for the 4.4.2 OTA update fails at 28%. When I press the menu button to see the reason why I get the following error (sorry for potato quality). It says that the AT&T Smart Wi-Fi apk has unexpected contents, but I don't even have that app and I never uninstalled it either. When I go to the Play Store I can download it and it still isn't a system app. As I said, I've done several factory wipes and I was hoping that would fix it since I hate doing wipes. Any ideas?

Any way to update from 4.3 to 4.4.2 without having to install TWRP/CWM/etc? I used CF-Auto-Root since 4.0 and updated to 4.1 and 4.3 without any problems. I don't really want to deal with custom ROMs or bootloaders or anything extra. I'd just like to update to 4.4 stock + SuperSU and nothing more.

get to stock 4.3 with odin flashable file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2722660 then use the stock ota file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788012, flash it in stock recovery from external sd card, bootloader will be upgraded using this method and you may not be able to downgrade to 4.3 after this ,but it will be stock as you wanted, use towelroot apk from towelroot.com to root 4.4.2 , install superusersu from play store and update binaries

Well thanks for trying, but this method wipes all your data, which is kinda something I'd want to avoid...
You may be out of luck then. Why not backup using titanium backup, and/or a nandroid, and copy your internal sd content to a computer. Then update and copy sd data back and restore apps with titanium? Sure its a little extra time and effort, but you'd probably be done sooner than finding an alternative.

[Q] Upgrade to 4.4.3 from Stock 4.4.2 with TWRP Recovery

I am S-ON and looking to upgrade from stock 4.4.2 to 4.4.3 but have TWRP recovery. Can anyone recommend the easiest way to do this? I keep getting the OTA system update prompt, which I downloaded, would I be able to just flash that zip using TWRP? Thanks

You need stock recovery, not TWRP.

So the easiest way would just be flash stock recovery, then do the OTA update
Yes, but if it doesn't work, you'll need to flash a stock ROM. Some apps are removed when you unlock at that makes the OTA fail.
