So I'm running a custom kernel with lowered voltages... even over wifi this thing runs hot. After about 15 minutes The screen emulates heat don't even have to touch it to feel it. Even underclocked its still running warm. Coming from a single core you would think having another core would reduce some heat but my epic never got this hot at all. So how hot does your nexus run? If I would guestamate I would say around 100° or so. The brightness isn't that high however my rgb values are pretty high at least the blue value is. I like a cool screen temp.

go back to stock kernel, you can undervolt/underclock the stock one too!
I run around 119°F at the hottest I've seen, regularly. So you're fine.

Wifi on, surfing webpages on Chrome Beta for maybe 15 to 20 minutes, then the casing gets pretty hot.
I'm sure it's high 40+ degrees Celsius or maybe 50+
Sorry for not including details
All units are in degree Celsius.
Idles at 32
Normal use not sure, but should be around 30+ range
It only runs that hot when really pushing the phone hard for me.
Don't forget ambient temperature makes a big difference also. And case trapping heat.
...of the people, by the people, for the people...
So I downloaded b35 of aokp. Wiped data... and dalvik. Formatted the system and now its cool as ice. I'm on the charger running at 1.2 and its not getting warm. Before I was @ 900mhz and it was getting really warm... I'm amazed at what corrupt data will do.

Sorry,wrong thread
To be deleted.
Not sure if this is just how the phone is or if mine's defective. If anyone isn't having the following issues PLEASE reply so I can call up Sony and hopefully get a new one if this isn't the norm.
-Phone gets pretty hot, I know the phone's back is metal but it's hot enough to worry about imo. Happens when I've got a large file downloading or playing games like Modern Combat 3. Just to note I kill all background tasks quite often and especially before playing a game.
-Touch screen is buggy and requires a hard reset to fix. After MC3 crashing twice on me my screen became nearly unresponsive and if it did register anything it'd bug out.
-When listening to music it sorta drops out every once in a while, equivalent to a CD skipping? Idk how else to really put it.
Thanks in advance!
Well over heating is common in android phones. Mines reach 49 degrees Celsius while playing minecraft. But for the other issues, they seem like memory issues

shouldn't be the cpu. my x10 is always below 30mb XD
btw, don't use any task killers. they won't help but only mess up the way your phone works.
however, you can try using an app called "system panel." set up the monitor function and see which app is doing the wrong thing

Hello guys,
Did any one of you experienced the same thing.
It happend to me for a second time,
While the phone is on charge to use it and this time i was using only the FB app to review some stories, when the phone became extremely hot from the back next to camera and also the display. And at the same time Led started blinking as crazy red&green.
Dont know which app u r using to measure this temperature but its definately not normal. Even when i play some HD games the phone did get so hot. Got worried.
Any experience or advice? Thanks

It can be rom or kernel related. Never had the blinking issue, but device also got hot. You can by try reflashing both, and systemtuner, free on playstore, is a good app.

LED blinking just simple humanity notifications that the phone is currently oveheats. All lithium variants battery wont charge under overheated condition as the itself is unstable..
For quick resolving, turn off wifi could be a quick solutions..
To dig into root-caused, you may wanna check any mis-behaving apps before suspecting kernel.
Well my phone is with the latest stock rom. Didnt flash any custom rom, even not rooted.
Also i was only on 3G internet, bt & wifi both off and also with sync off,
As i said at first post i was only checking through the FB app some stuff, and couldnt believe that FB app can overheat my phone such for less than 10 mins
You are right that the blinking is most probably notification for the overheating.
Did anyone know what is the maximum temp which the phone should not reach? On gaming for example when all the cores are using.

On gaming the phone goes to about 77 degrees, according to system tuner. It feels hottish, but not to bad. I once had it up to 88 degrees while playing with a weak signal. Have you looked at what is eating the power, yet?

FYI, My LED will blink while battery sensor catch up around 48C.
FB App is well known lousy and slow app but it probably not the cause, what we said was to check against faulty backgroud app for your problems and take a look on battery stat find out unusual battery drainage.

Don't worry, I've had the exact same thing happen to me before, but I think that was ROM related since the ROM was in very early stages of development. I do also remember waking up one day to HOX overheating (probs never got a chance to get into Deep Sleep). It was so hot, I thought the internal components had fried up. And yes, the Red and Green Notif Light blinking is definitely a sign for overheating. So I quickly changed the ROM and ever since that day, nothing's happened. But anyways, you did say it was the stock ROM so what I suggest you do is clear the processes and look carefully at when it specifically starts becoming warm. It could be an unstable app you might have installed. But then again, the kernel could be at fault. Probably setting the CPU at a clock speed it doesn't require.
Hope you get this sorted, good luck.
hi guys,
thanks for the replies ,
My HOX is 2 months old and I'm not feel ready yet for custom rom, in case something gets wrong.
I have better battery monitor installed, and so far the phone stays in ~90% deep sleep
no indicates for interrupting program while sleep.
so the problem I guess is really with the kernel , when the phone is awake and using some apps ..
but every time when i check the processes there is nothing "extra"
i didnt understand how you guys measure the phone temperatures.
Regards

And suddenly the phone started working normaly with no overheating till now.
Even if i left the phone all night with wifi on, sync on, after aroind 12h the batter was moved only 5%
The apps wich i removed were "bump" & the eufa "euro 2012" official app
Hope this helps someone else

hello every one
i want to buy HTC ONE V and i need your advise :
1- is it fast phone ?
2- i hear that have problem with network signal and it disconnect many time while you work on it ? please what about this problem
3- can i play ASPHALT 7 on it ? i was have SONY XPERIA RAY and it has the same GPU adreno205 and ASPHALT 7 was work fine on it ..
4-is there any problem should i know before buy it ?
please i need your opinions
thanks
root the phone, then it meets all ur specs!
1. Has 1 GHz processor. Not lightning fast, but good. GPU is good.
2. Network problem exists. Death grips arise sometimes. Network disconnects sometimes.
3. Asphalt 7 can be played smoothly with an OCed kernel.
4. This phone hangs and plenty of force closes occur.if u OC a kernel, this can be reduced. Problem of 'light bleeding' exists, though it was more prominent in earlier batches....there are some more issues like photos, videos and music vanishing from gallery(though can be retrieved back), camera not working(more prominent during 1st week, phone heating, music quality not so good(though earphones quality great cos of beats).....

virgin mobile data speeds and reception sucks. I highly suggest going brand if you decide to get the HTC One. The phone needs to be rooted and overclocked for you to have a descent working smartphone. It can't play most graphics demanding games as it will crash the UI.

So I upgraded on Thursday and is in love with this device . But after a day I noticed the device getting warm then hot in the matter of minutes. I troubleshoot the best of my abilities but no avail. Factory data reset, unistall bloat, calibrating the battery still no go. Then I stumble across a YouTube video for s4 with the same problem and the video suggest turning off all the toggles. And it worked!!!! I'm still going to return my device but this was the solution that worked for me.

Must have been unlucky because this is my first phone in a year that never gets warm, the Htc One and LG G2 got so hot I could just hit autoupload with 10 apps in que and then use them for handwarmers on a cold night. I'm amazed that when I have it tethered for hours it doesn't get warm whatsoever whereas those other two devices would get so hot I was afraid they would eventually die prematurely. My guess is some things could have been addressed eventually, maybe not but my Note 3 is just perfect out of the box thank goodness.

Saying it isn't normal is quite a leap. Remember that the back cover is very thin plastic. Don't just assume something is wrong unless your phone actually hurts you or powers down due to the heat.
G2 and Note 3 (sd800) get warm pretty quick. Neither gets hot for me. Not yet anyway. I think throttling stops my devices from getting overly hot. Obviously ambient temperature plays a part. 75 degrees all day for me. Indoors
Have two Note 3's and 1 G2 on my family account. Replaced one note 3 already for cosmetic issues.
Mine got pretty hot on the first day when I was busy rooting, flashing, and deleting stuff, but now it only gets slightly warm if I'm doing something data-intensive.
Most phones will get hot when using either wifi or the mobile data radio a lot. My S3 used to. It was never too hot to touch but always concerned me. My Note3 however has been quite cool. I played Bloon TD5 for a few hours yesterday (I was very bored) and it got a little warm, but thats about it. If it concerns you, take it back and have it replaced.
I got an update yesterday. Today I tried and downloaded asphalt 1.5gb game. It didn't even warm up. So I'm guessing the update..MAYBE fixed it.

My phone just started to overheat and I am not sure why. The area near the camera/flash is where I feel most of the heat, specifically the SD card area so I removed the micro SD card which worked great for a day and now its back to overheating. What's worse is that it happens overnight to the point where my phone shuts itself off due to battery drain (the phone was not charging and had 100%).
Bout to call tmo for a replacement.
overheat using 3G
I am facing the same issue.
Just bought last week and i find in below case my phone gets overheat. BTW to me, overheat is the set gets so warm that if i put in my ear, i cant even talk cause its HOT.
1. if i use 3G browsing for like 10/15 mins
2. downloading something via WIFI for like 30/40 mins.
i really dont understand whats the issue. how to solve this ? its insane i paid so much for this phone but if it heated up this much... how to use ! damn ...
I've woken up to my phone being extremely hot but it has only happened because of a rogue app I installed turned out to be that Themer was the culprit. I uninstalled Themer and haven't had any issues since. Keep in mind I had Themer installed for about a month and every time they would push out an update I would get over heating problems. Though Themer is still in beta I'll just wait till the official version is released.
