I cracked the screen on my g pro so I ordered a new screen kit. while attempting to replace it I ripped the coaxial cable from the tiny metal thing it was inside of.... can that coaxial cable be ordered somewhere? should I just sell the phone and screen replacement for parts? any advice would be appreciated. I don't actually need the phone anymore, I ordered an LG Flex.. so what should I do with the G pro?
I'm gonna assume you mean you damaged the ribbon cable on the new screen replacement? If that's so then it's up to you. If you no longer really need the phone then you could just sell it for parts. But it would be worth more if you fix it. If all you damaged was the ribbon cable on the new screen then just buy another one. Or if it's not bad you could try to just adhere the cable back to the screen and continue the repair and see if it works. If what you're saying is you ripped the cable from the connector COMPLETELY then yeah. You're gonna need to buy another replacement screen.
Sorry if I'm making you more confused. I'm just trying to picture exactly what you did. If you could post a pic that would be good.
If you are referring to this little wire.
[See attached photo] Then yes you can order it. On Amazon or eBay. They run about 5 bucks.

So I guess you want to know if you have the wide or thin ribbon cable? The only way to tell is to open your phone up, but the more common cable is the thin one.
evo lcd
i would think to look what hardware you have in phone info 002 003 whatever
can anyone verify this? I bought a a screen and housing but the its the thick cable and I need the thin one. I knew I took a gamble but lost. So I was hoping on buying another evo with a broken screen and just replace the motherboard, but would like to know if there is anyway to have the seller check which one he has without having him open it.
going on 2 weeks with no EVO
jerryparid said:
1. Connect PC to Evo in charge/development mode; then adb shell dmesg > evoinfo.txt. Look for "novatec" or "epson" in the txt file
or
2. Download terminal emulator from market, type dmesg, find "novatec" or epson" in the output
or
3. Add HTC Power Widget, change the screen brightness. Instant change = Epson, gradual/fading change = Novatec

Did you buy the screen and housing from a reputable seller on Ebay? If you did he should be more than happy to exchange the wide cable for the thin one for you.
In any case, I would think the screen/housing would be cheaper than even a cracked screen evo, unless you get an amazing deal.

He's not a dealer just had a refurbished housing and screen. I think i'm done messing with it. I'll buy a used working EVO and sell the housing I just bought and sell my broken EVO for parts.
Hi,
The LCD on my Archos 101 Gen8 is cracked. Is there a place I can get a replacement? I've searched the internet and the two places I found cost more than half the price of the tablet itself.
Thanks in advance.
Well, here's the unfortunate news. Replacing the screen might not be the only thing you have to do. The digitizer (the thing that lets the tablet know which part of the screen is being touched) could also be broken. My Archos 70it was dropped from a 2 story ledge and in no way was that covered under warranty. It cost me $187 to get Archos to fix the screen+digitizer. Although they didn't actually fix it, they just sent me a brand new completely sealed unit. Which I think was pretty nice of them.
The unfortunate truth with most technology like tablets is that individual parts are so ridiculously expensive. It's a supply and demand thing I'm sure.
I hope you can get this all worked out.
EDIT: Also, when they talked to me about replacement they said they could either fix it for $187, or give me 20% off anything (Gen 8 and below) in the Archos store. So that's another option if you maybe want to downgrade to a smaller/cheaper unit.

Thanks for the info. The digitizer is intact, it's the actual LCD that's cracked. I only use the tablet for web browsing, so I could downgrade in terms of specs, but not screen size.
Again, thanks.

I'm also looking for reference about GoUnlock.com because I need to replace my digitizer. Anyone can say anything good or bad about them?
Btw Zathman, just in case, make sure you really want to change the full "LCD + Digitizer" package, which afaik is usually expensive. Maybe only the "touchscreen glass (digitizer)" is damaged, while the "displaying device (LCD)" that is behind could still be working fine (that is my case). LCD+Digitizer ~ $250, Digitizer only is ~$50.
found this online

They had samsung replace it.
Only 163, and they do all the work, plus shipping.
Sounds pretty good.

Well, I guess it depends. For the RAZR some online shops seems to have sold it in the past, although now they are all out of stock (maybe there are a lot of RAZR screen broken... don't know).
Try searching for "digitizer" and the phone model on ebay, and google...
Aren't the glass and digitizer glued together in the nexus? If so, you have to get both. Only phones where they're separate can you swap digitizer separately.
bow chicka wow wow.

Yes they are fused together in this phone, you can't get them separately. But hey on the plus side, no screen dust leakage!
Has anyone found a decent guide on replacing this screen? I've been looking all morning and found a few teardowns but nothing concrete. I have a cracked screen on my nexus and have a whole nother nexus i'm going to use as a replacement...

Yeah I cracked mine a few months back.
Tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1890708 to change the glass and ended up accidentally tearing off the digitizer and basically cooking it.
Sent it to Samsung, $180 and 8 days later they sent it back good as new. New glass, digitizer, screen AND bezel (had a slight crack in it). Definitely the route I'd recommend going.

That's pretty good deal when you must replace digitizer. All I see on ebay (at least fro Verizon phones) is $200 minimum. Here you will not only get this thing professionally replaced, but also not have to do it yourself, and end up paying less!!!
I wish I was aware of this option before I went about ordering digitizers on ebay, and to add insult to injury ended up ordering a wrong one
Get one with he home button on it. That means you will get one with the bezel which means much easier install. Just unscrew and replace. Ones without bezel are pretty tedious as you need your old bezel.

I'll be calling samsung tonight to get a quote but for my and future screen breaker's info please answer this:
On ebay you can see pics of the back of the assembly showing i535 or i710 or i9300
is there actually a difference in these? some sellers say that a i9300 lcd will only fit the i9300 not the i535 or i710
is this true or are they all misinformed? i'm sure samsung will say there's a difference but has anyone actually replaced their assembly with a different model?
UPDATE** when i talked to samsung i learned the answer to my question!
the LCD is the same across all platforms, glass too.
the frame however varies. i also read about someone using a different frame than what their carrier used, he had to mickey mouse the whole thing, said he couldnt use his home button, and to use the lock/ power button he had to roll up tape and shove it in... all in all the whole thing was rattley and far from factory.

There is a separate charger you can use for your battery, purchase an extra battery with the charger that charges your battery for you without it being in your phone. I have 3 batteries, 1 in my phone,1 in my wallet, and 1 that stays charged on the charger. So I rarely charge my phone just switch the batteries if that helps with your charging issue. It's a hassle, but a start if you don't want to purchase a new phone or can't fix your charge port.

Just go on eBay and buy the lcd and the digitizer and the frame together. It's kind of expensive, but its better than taking the LCD and the digitizer apart. Everything you have to do is swap the internals from your broken phone to the new phone. Also make sure you YouTube some videos on how to do it and you will save yourself around 100 bucks. Good luck. I did this on my own and it was a piece of cake.

:crying:..USA, hello hi.. i live in europe: Norway
plz JUST tell what parts i could get off from eBay and fix it myself or my father wiill do it profecionaly :cyclops:
Please not That expensive parts, there are allways cheaper copies around from china or whatever i could just buy that instead
i just want the phone to WORK because its ****ing Dead for ages now:silly:
Ok the parts you need are the Lcd screen with the digitizer and the frame. There are no other cheaper parts from China since this are OEM parts. How ever, if youre Screen is broken and your digitizer is not you can buy the front LCD screen alone for about 8 dollars on eBay, but the only way to know this is if you can have the phone on. If there is no black spots on the screen and its just the front screen thats shattered then you dont need to buy the LCD digitizer and the frame. You only need the front screen LCD which I mentioned above and is around 8 dollars.
