Hello,
I've just started using this phone as my old one died on me and someone gave me this one secondhand.
It seems to have an update available but I can't get it!
If I'm on mobile data only it keeps telling me I have to use Wifi to download it which is annoying as I have unlimited data but there you go.
I've tried on 3 different peoples Wifi and every time it will get to somewhere between 5% and 30% and then error with a message that it can't update and a code of 801881d0.
Very frustrating!
I don't suppose there's any way round this ? If only I oculd download it on my PC and apply it or something but I've read that's not possible.....
Any ideas ?
Thanks,
Dan
Hi, how much storage space do you have on your phone?
Well after 5 days of it failing to download on any WIFI connection I tried, suddenly the other night it said it had downloaded it. Hooray!
So I told it to install it, to which it told me I hadn't got enough space so I removed eveything I'd installed..... still not enough so I ended up uninstalling everything that it would let me on the phone till I was down to the bare minimum of apps and finally it decided to work.
After the update it decided it fancied going into a boot loop just to finish off the joy. After 20 minutes of fiddling with power and volume down combinations I eventually managed to get it to boot up and now, after another 2 updates, it finally says "Your software is up to date"
Phew!!!!
That was a lot more painful than it needed to be but we got there in the end!
Glad you got it fixed.
I believe the GDR3 update (which I think you were doing) is something like 800mb or so.
So basically you need to uninstall most of your apps to download and install it (I had to).
So WP8.1 should be fun to install! (Assuming it is released for the HTC 8S)

I put the applock on, i reboot, i double click the exe to run the dos thing, i allow my fone to run spl something, i click centre button, it says run the ruu ex, I do, and active sync disconnects before I can do anything else...Error 260...i can wait an hr an nothing happens. I've soft-reset, hard-reset, followed and understood and read every instruction but I just cannot get it to upgrade. The phones unlocked, the apps are unlocked. I've tried it without redoing the applock exe. I'm stuck. Any advice before I call it a day and keep my greedy wanting nature under control. All help much appreciated.

Im now completely bog-eyed n I cant concentrate anymore, so im leavin it till the morrow. THankx very...ill be back
active-sync problem
well, ive followed every single instance from all the options available and everything goes fine until it gets to the actual updating point and then active-sync cuts off,10 seconds later i get error 260 saying im not connected. Ive left it all alone to see if it will update as the usb cable is still attached but no. I havent had this problem with any other phone update or unlock or debranding. Ive noticed on google that others have the same problem and they were told to leave it running and it will continue to update but on all the options ive left it overnight and it hasnt updated and neither has theirs. All help stops after everyone else has done what ive done, its too near xmas to drown my sorrows but, thanks for help n have a lovely xmas n new year
When you press the center button and the screen turns white do you hear the chime windows make when a USB device is disconnected?

Well, actually when you flash your activesync shut offs but your USB connection stills active, so that's normal.
Did you sda unlock your phone before you flashed?. You should do this every time you flash (well that's why I do), also make sure you remove your sd card; because these can cause error messages while you flash.
Other option can be try another PC or reinstall activesync, sometimes my laptop gets crazy and I get multiple errors when I flash, but when I use my desktop flashing goes smooth
yes I sda unlocked every time....i only have a lappy....i remove my sd card...i will uninstall n reinstall active sync.....I'll check out if any of my daughters' friends have desktops to see if I can do it that way. I shall try all that over xmas n new year n ill let you know how I get on. Many Thanx....

Hope that helps ..Merry Christmas and happy new year
im running Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 for vista as it says active-synce 4.2/4.5 only works with xp. Could this be a problem ? Is this why I'm havin trouble with flashing the roms or am I red-herring myself ?

is there no update on this situation? because i am currently attempting to flash a rom for my friends dash and i am having the same connection error problems. and she has a windows vista laptop. i am not sure if that is what the problem is. convinced its not the cord. during the update process it just disconnects once it gets to about 3 percent.

3% error solution. Also, make sure you access your PC as an administrator and disable any firewall
I have been trying to update to the 3.29.651.5 update since its release on September 22 and it just continually says, "Checking..." It never stops. I've left it there for thirty minutes before. It never tells me there isn't an available update nor that 3.29.651.5 is available.
I took the phone into a Sprint store and they said to come back in forty-five minutes for the upgrade (a bit of a wait!). I came back after fifty and they told me they would have to wipe the phone to install the software update.
Is there an easier way to fix this? Sprint support gave me a link to a download for the update, but said it is a risk. Is there a way to just fix what is making it continually check so that it finally just finds the software update by the normal means?
Thank you for any help.

just download the ota from here in the 4g developement area and connect to your pc and update, be sure to sync your contacts first, and back your apps up to just incase, i know when i updated the wife's hero her contacts were ok, and did not get deleted from the phone, the apps i cant remember if i had to add them back in or not.
I ended up doing a factory reset and then the update was able to found normally. Thank you for your help, though.
I just got this tablet a couple of days ago and I am having a lot of problems with it. None of the sprint apps are installed, and the "preparing network" thing just sits at the top of the screen and will not go away. I want to go and get it replaced, but it is hard to find a sprint store where I can park a 75 foot long truck. So I thought that the issues might be due to the firmware having errors or maybe a bad flash at the factory. I also am unable to update the PRL or the profile. I have been searching for answers to this problem for 2 days now.
Somebody please help!

I think that I finally resolved the issue. I had to do a complete factory reset.
***WARNING***
You will loose all of your data when you do the following reset.
I had to use a utility to retrieve the MSL. (I found it in another thread, but don't remember which one.)
Next I entered the following into the calculator app to get to the factory mode screen:
(+30012012732+
Then in the factory mode app I typed:
##786#
Then I entered the MSL and followed the prompts to reset.
The tablet rebooted, did an erase in recovery, rebooted again, then went through the initial setup and activation process. After that everything was good. I am waiting for all of my apps to reinstall now.
I was going to flash with Oden but my laptop is down now too. So the above mentioned method is the best.
Just so that everyone knows, by resetting the tab to bare bones and flashing the OEM Rom, it will set the tab to as new state, meaning you will have to enter all the information that was require when you first powered up the tab. So, if one were to go to download mode it will show original.
I had 2 units that had not been programmed before and tried the trick with pulling the ethernet cable as the light turned white.....didn't work.... I tried several times and it would always come up with the message that there was no connection. I finally decided for simply chalk it up to having 2 unrooted units....no big deal..... So.... I connected directly to the internet with no blocks and let the unit go ahead and download the "latest" firmware. To my great surprise when I finally got done and went to check the version which I was certain would be the 4.0 I actually had 51.0.2.0! Both units rooted. I have no idea what was going on, but it seems as though the Amazon server was updating with that version today....or at least that's the best theory I can come up with. It did go through the entire download and installed, but I got rootable firmware out of it! Go figure. If the server is screwing up and anyone else can try it, that would confirm it. Everything loaded fine....the only thing that didn't work after all was done was that the FTV utility here didn't block updates when I selected for it to do it and ADB shows update enabled. I'm going to try again later, but xposed, supersu, stickmount, towelroot and everything else works fine. I just can't get the utility to block like it normally does. Any ideas on blocking? Any ideas on why the server might be giving out that firmware today?
I'm very puzzled over it.....but quite happy about it!

I'm sort of lost on what you are saying.
You say both units are unrooted, and you updated, got a 5.xxxx update and now both are rootable?
Nice. That being said, I'm going to point out what I got my AFTV and I blocked the update servers in my router, it still said it was updating when I first turned it on, but it wasn't.

The version on the Fire TV at the time of the update dictates what version gets pushed to it. I think for some reason, the original firmware version is unable to update directly to the latest, so they push an old one to get it ready for the latest. This has been seen multiple times before.
Sorry.....neither unit had ever bee set up, but since I couldn't disconnect the internet or have the 2 updates sites blocked and get the unit to progress with it's setup I finally just connect it directly to the internet and allowed the unit to download what I have always gotten a the 4.0 newest firmware. Today...connected directly to the internet and allowing Amazon to download the "latest" firmware and install it I ended up with very early firmware being installed to it.
Sorry....double post
Thank you for the logical answer to this. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven for a while!lol

One thing that still puzzles me though... there are the only 2 rooted units that the FTV utility will not automatically block updates on when I select that option. What other way is there to do that?..( in layman terms!lol)
Never mind... I finally got it to block... I tried the command in ADB with no success and out of desperation reset the unit, started from scratch and disabled updates before loading XBMC... That worked and everything went smoothly after that. I have no idea why that worked, but it did.
Hi,
I have applied firware update for years without problems but today I am stumped.
I tried to update todate from 6ETLL firmware to the newer 6FUBD both Android 11.
Set up Odin using 3.14.4 and started ok.
Then I had the install stopping and disconnecing to the phone.
Eventually I disconnected the phone lead and it now wont boot passed the error message -
An error has occurred while updating the device software.
Use the Emmergency recovery function in the Smart Switch PC software.
So I installed this on my pc it it fails to recognise the phone even in Emmergency recovery mode.
I have tried all methods of trying to reboot the phone but it always comes back to the above arror message and wont go into recover mode or download mode.
I did not but this from O2 but directly from Samsund and its just out of warrantee.
I dont know wheer the service center is in the Uk and thats a lst resort anyway.
Any suggestions please.
Repaste from my other reply on the UI3 update :
"
Odin hates thunderbolt - If you plan on using a USB-C port make sure it's not thunderbolt. It will fail half way in and freeze. Get a well rated cable and do it via USB concentrator directly
If you get stuck and you cannot access recovery via key combo or smartswitch emergency recovery use Odin
Open options and select get device info - It will reboot directly to the recovery if it was previously written (check the log). After that disable the get device info option and reconnect the cable (select files for flashing again - should go smoothly.
If after the reboot and setup you get a moisture warning on the USB port - this does not make nay sense but it works - Turn off the Note, plug in a usb cable on the PC and reboot the phone connected to the cable - It will reset the sensor warning and should work flawlessly.
Hope to have helped - Had a bit of a jarring adventure setting this one up this time.
The lag in the animation is there, however, I think it's the animation timer that is set higher (slower) it's not slow "per se" but it shows. "
Bomm,
I must say.... I dont know how to thank you. Your post saved my Note 10.
I emailed Samsung repair and after 2 days they said phone xxxxx if you need it repaired under warrantee.
I waited a week for the phone to lose its battery and when booted back on charge cane up with the same error.
So I went back on xda and you had kindly posted the exact fix I needed. I didn't expect that. I know now if I have the same issue again. It was my pc I think using usb-c to usb-c like you said. Thank you so much.
I didn't get any warnings at all. booted up fine.

had the same issue. I was stumped at first too
I've tried all the posts but when I say start in odin, the phone restarts and gives an error
As you say you are super, my friend, I applied it step by step, the phone entered the download mode.
Not sure why you want Q or above on the 10+.
I'm still running on Pie/One UI. Fast, very stable and zero issues. Last reload was back in June.
If the OS is running well and fulfilling its mission let sleeping dogs lie.
One issue is if we don't keep up to date then at some point Samsung will stop support on a particular phone and the phone can be years out if date.
They may then be on a version unsupported by the apps suppliers and will be more difficult to sell if you want to buy a new phone.

No problem here. All my PCs, their XPx64/W7 OSs as well as my Androids Kitkat/Pie OSs are now unsupported.
No issues and all continue to fulfill their missions.
Forced learning curves waste my time and offer little in return. My last learning curves were from Kitkat to Pie and XPx64 to W7.
I stopped updating with the best versions of both MS and Android. I don't rat's arse if it stays like that for the next 10 years... or if my Windows machines mutate into Pie or Linux machines
Whatever works best for me.
It's not just the bugs that won't get fixed it's the vulnerabilities as well, then the apps stop working. I actually enjoy upgrading my kit and amon Windows 10 21h1. Anti virus packages mat stop working as well.

I've never had a malware or virus issue that required a factory reset in over 7 years of using Android. More than half of the time was using out of date OS's. My current Pie OS is over a year out of date.
99% of rootkits, viruses etc are uploaded by the user. There's no protecting the stupid.
I have redundant complete backups so a factory reset will cost me normally 2 hours and at worst case 6-8 hours if I need to restore the SD card.
You waste far more time then this fighting with the bugs, the learning curve and the forced factory reset that a major firmware update requires.
I get to use the OS of my choice... you get whatever they throw at you and the ride that comes with it.
