I know this is an old phone, I am going to turn them into gps systems, mainly of course they will be able to wifi. Download apps and such, but their main purpose will be for gps navigation.
So what is the best rom, one that everything works plus great battery life.
Phones won't have any cell service, just wifi, so cell phone service isn't important.
Nvm wrong phone lol

Stock rom is GB, so really not a good choice.
Best might be the wrong word, so what ics or jb romm is fully functional? I am looking at threads the ones I am looking at the camera doesn't work and so on.
Need camera to work, 4G not needed, but navigate without camera is useless.

Give cyanmobile a shot. It is gingerbread so everything works and to top it off it has many ics/jb features ported over. Plus it has a massive amount of settings to customize it to your liking.

I'm rooted with unrevoked 3 and I want to remove the root so I can install the ota update. So if I do a factory reset will I be good to go? Also what is the best app to backup all of my apps and settings? Musy be a simple one because I'm clueless wirh this stuff. Thanks
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
no, a hard reset will not. a reset only wipes userdata and cache and a few other things. why would you want an ota update???? just downlaod one of the roms our talented devs have created for you (most have the newest ota) and flash.
I would but I have no idea how to flash roms and backup and all of that. I don't even know how to find the roms. Or understand the terminology. And why wouldn't I want the ota update are those good because they fix issues and improve stuff?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
ok, it seems this might be a little more complicated than a 2 sentence answer...
you wouldnt want an ota, not because it is not better than its predecessor, but because it is just what htc put in, and as you know, there is alot of stuff htc is not capable of, not willing to, or not creative enough to put in. that is why you would want a custom rom.
a rom is the Read Only Memory of the phone. it is the stuff that tells it what to do when something happens. it is everything you see and do when the phone is booted up, as well as while it is booting. if your phone is rooted, you can do whatever the hell you want to do with it.
the talented devs at xda (including me minus the talent) have made custom roms based off the ota's. most have little add ons and tweaks. some of the more in-depth ones have bigger changes, or even complete ui changes. these devs have packadged them in update.zip scripts, so that they will easily install on your phone. they can be found in the android dev section (in the evo forum)
before flashing a zip (installing a rom through a script) you will need to wipe everything, so it is reccomended to use the titanium backup app to backup all your apps, as well as the data in the apps.
any more questions? shoot

Thanks I've been researching for the past 3 hours and I've backed up with rom manager and titanium backup and I think I am ready to install my first rom. I'm looking for a completly stable rom with vanilla 2.2 that will let me use everything that I can use on stock like 4g,market, and everything else. Thanks again
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
as vanilla, do you mean the lockscreen??? if you do, easy fix. if you mean stock android stuff, you will have a hard time finding 4g there... i am always willing to help. as an extremely stable rom, i reccomend fresh. very stable and looooooong battery
Well not just the lock screen. I just want stock android with no UI at all. And I want everything to work. Thanks for helping me btw
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I'm pretty sure there are no AOSP roms that have everything working, specifically 4G. I think there might be a couple Sense roms that have sense pretty stripped out that look and feel like AOSP, just dig around the development section.
If it's just the UI you care about, you can always install ADW or LauncherPro and make it look like AOSP. That way you have everything working and you get to keep some of Sense's finer parts, like the smart dialer (the AOSP dialer sucks!).
Ok.I'm thinking about trying the fresh rom is there anything that doesn't work with that? Does 4g work? Anything I should know about it? Lol
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I think dude used the word vanilla as an adjective for plain HTC sense 2.2 and not AOSP.
Fresh is awesome. I have been using it for a while and just updated to the latest one today. It's a sense ROM, so everything works. The dock looks a little different compared to stock but that's it.
Alright cool. Because I'm getting horrible battery life even with having the processor underclocked. As soon as I take it off the charger it drops from 100% to 85% within 10 minutes of no use lol. Also wil titanuim backup work with fresh? Like can I restore e erything with no problems?

Titanium should work with any ROM.
FYI, the paid version will allow you to do a one click batch restore of all apps and data.
Yeah I have the paid ver. But what's the point of switching if the only differnce is the dock. Is the battery life THAT much better?

That's not the only difference, it's the only major VISUAL difference. Most of the other stuff is under the hood. I don't know what kind of battery life you've been getting but with Fresh and king's #11cfs kernel I get great battery life. I put a fresh battery in at 7 this morning and I still have 45%. I was streaming pandora and MeCanto for a couple hours, made a few phone calls, 20 or so texts, and maybe an hour of internet browsing.
Oh I forgot about kernals. How do I install a kernel? Do I have to install a kernal? What is a kernel? Lol

What he said.. Each are varying with what works and what does not. I am running CM10 on my main phone, its not bug free but I dont have any huge major issues. CM9 improves on some things but not everything. The only ones I would personally call rock solid are the CM7 builds.

You're not being very forthcoming with your setup. Assuming you are already rooted...You can back up apps with titanium backup. You can back up the rom with your recovery (cwm, twrp, ext, etc...). For nav, any rom will do. For tether, it depends on if you want to use the built in CM tether, or a market app. I believe the CM7 roms have the built in tether working. CM9 and CM10 may require the use of an app like barnacle for tethering. Stability is in the eye of the beholder, but generally the CM7 roms will be most stable since they have "better" kernel source.
My real suggestion...spend some time reading around the threads because you are the only one that can really decide what will work best for you.
Okay sorry I was not very specific but yes I am rooted on android 2.3!4 and I just want make sure I have a good alternative to stock maybe with better performance to keep my itch for a new phone away

CM10 unofficial
I have always been a CM fan from my OG Droid days.
For backing up I tend to allow google to keep my apps up to date after a fresh install. (I feel like google owns me at this point anyway) I dont use Titanium much now. I do back up my SMS messages though with SMS restore.
For the Inc 2 i think CM9 is fairly fast, has FFC, is mostly stable, and i WAS able to tether with the stock app. A good option
But I use CM10 consistently at this point because 1. It is visibly faster than CM9 and 2. I am now hooked on google now. Its pretty awesome even though i have seriously considered reverting back to CM9 for the FFC (google hangouts and skype video calls worked for me well)
I would check out aeroevan's v13 kernel and 20120821-unofficial for a good option.
Okay I now a lot about Android but I'm lost for a second now what is ffc ?
Sorry I got it now
Okay so yes I just need to have everything backed up with my stock Rom
Anyone ever used uniflash ?

CM
If you want absolute stability and everything to work (including proper audio and camera) I would recommend cm7.2
If newer features like google now matter more, I would use cm10, aeroevans build is getting very good. Some issues with audio, with some workarounds, there are details in dev forms here and on rootwiki.
I still use cm7.2 because the audio is perfect, which is important to me, and the battery life is far superior at this point.
Thank you sounds good!

[Q] What ROM do you guys use as your Daily Driver?
Also provide the hyperlink to the explanation/download page if you would be so kind for other users.
I'm still running the old Stock GB AT&T Rom, since it has no bugs, is smooth enough for me and doesn't need regular updates.
But as soon as Jellybean becomes Issueless, im sure to update my OS, altough it is its current state no where near a daily driver for me :< .
I use lite rom, is not in the list. is a great rom. I like JB but still i cant use as a daily
Where's CM10.1?
Look in the development forums

The rom developers say that the Skype issue is a issue with JB, maybe one of them will do a workaround?
I tinkered with JB and there were some issues with it that didn't make it a DD for me just yet. I think I will end up with a LiteRom style ICS ROM until JB gets ironed out.
Moving back and forth between all these
Dman's CM10.1
PA
CAMP
Liquidsmooth
My CM10.1 build
Lastly all the new builds that i keep trying
So no daily driver for me. I'm thinking of buying another phone to keep it as a daily, people have started complaining about my phone being unreachable most of the times.

You'll probably be waiting a very long time, as jb isn't 100% on any device. Its daily driver ready now. If your talking about Skype, that's not an issue, its an I wish. No one can make it compatible with every app on the market.

Yes, the rom is very fast and stable, but they say that the problem is not only skype, is in all app that makes call over wifi, for me for example, i use magicjack a lot. For a lot of people is ready to use as daily, but for other not for that issue.
But still the rom is great, i try it one day and like it a lot.

i would be happy with 85-90%... wish or not, having something work with atleast the popular apps is something to shoot for... that would be like he i made this rom for you all, you can use all the stock apps, look in the app store, but hey none of them work if you install them... kinda defeats the purpose...

dman, it's not a problem with Skype, it's a problem in the ROM or kernel... if any app has the microphone open, ALL playback is distorted.
If you don't see it as a priority, that's allright, we understand. But this denial is insulting.

Enjoying using dman's JB but gotta take it off later this month when driving more. As a Californian with the handsfree law, without Bluetooth it's too awkward have use as a literal daily "driver" (oh the irony)
I'm on DMAN's UCLH2 ICS as a daily.
Tried a few jelly bean roms. If only there was a JB rom where the blutooth and camera worked I would be happy enough to use it as a daily.
I've been using Dman's PACMAN Rom pretty much since it came out Dec 17. With Covenant Kernel v3 and thegreatergood's work with keyboard lights, everything on my ROM seems to function.
I flashed recently to the new JB LiteKernel (Jan13) and everything is working like a treat. The only reason I left ICS is because I got tired of waiting for GPS to lock.
The only issues I have :
Some apps disappear after reboot, in Titanium backup I choose the option to move the app to internal storage and it stays.
Audio plays back way slow in Google Now, Skype, and RingCentral (roothorick is right, there is an issue in the rom or kernel.)
Takes a few clicks of the power button to get the phone to wake up for me and the screen to turn on.
Physical Keyboard in Browser, can't use any symbols or numbers.. real pain when entering passwords having to use virtual keyboard.
Battery .. I'm lucky to get 12 hours out of a charge. When I'm on the ski hill with everything disabled except GPS and AlpineReplay, I get great usage... Maybe its that I have 2 email accounts on Push or wifi is turned on all day long... on my Galaxy Ace, though, I'd get 17 - 20 hours no problem.
- Panoramic Camera works,
- Bluetooth works (and after a reboot I still see my pairings)
- Keyboard lights and bln lights work.
- All keyboard keys work exempt www. and .com which is documented.
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the apps that disappear have something to do with the storage mounting... everything worked in is when the interal sd was /sdcard and external was /sdcard/external_sdcard .. Though this was in ICS, and I'm not a dev I can't confirm ... but I Just have a feeling.. perhaps bluetooth is in this as well ?
I played with rootbox, but some of the display settings (creating an mms with the phone in landscape I couldn't see the text box).
I've used LiquidSmooth and CAMP but I don't like that the battery stats weren't working.
I had used CM10 beta, liked it before switching to PAC but I really enjoy all the additional features of PACMAN vs. CM10 so ... here I am
I'm about to get a new phone and so this one can get a new purpose.
As the title suggests I'm looking for a rom with the least amount of features so it can be used as an mp3 player.
I mean I know I can just go ahead and use it as is, but I'm wondering if there is a Rom that would make the phone use as little resources as possible. Like for example simply lacks the ability to use it as a phone.
I can't help but wonder that if the phone features were taken out, that the device would simply be able to last longer.
Otherwise, what would be the most stable, fast Rom with best battery life and how would I go about disabling / uninstalling the things I would not need to accomplish what I'm trying to do.
And which settings can be disabled without everything else force closing on me.
I think the cm10.1 by tiny has the most optimizations and will work better than any gb Rom. You can then just put it in airplane mode and use titanium to get rid of anything you don't need.
Sent from my ADR6300 using xda app-developers app
Thank you. I did nor know cm10 was stable enough. But then, the last time I tried anything close I had issues with the camera which is something I won't need anymore anyway.
Can you think of a list of apps that would be safe to remove considering my purpose? Or perhaps a link to place that has many apps documented already? Obviously I'm referring to system apps that would become useless to me

I have to disagree with my own ROM being ideal for a media player.
For fast and stable, try insensitive minimalist (de-sensed GB ROM that's quick and light on features) or Bugless Beast (AOSP with a few extra features GB).
I don't have a link for the first one but it's in the inc dev forums somewhere.
http://www.peteralfonso.com for Bugless Beast.
I can't honestly recommend CM10 or CM10.1 for speed and battery life, though it is more fun than gingerbread.
Well I must say I appreciate the honesty. I'm indeed not looking for fun on this device. Simply a decent mp3 player is all it would become.
So thanks for the tips, I will look into them this weekend

Was actually going to make the same topic. I don't hardly use my incredible anymore but now I have to kinda. Apparently my nexus speaker decided it was going to be an asshole and crap out on me. So now I'm forced out of hand to use my incredible.
So I'd like to know a few things.
- ROM "Technically won't matter" I'll probably throw on sense 3.5 and use beats with other mods I've found.
- Kernel, unsure if new kernels have surfaced and I'd like to know. Aosp and sense.
- Fast, Minimal as he said. Just suggestions because again I'll probably choose 3.5.
- Best musically playable ROM, which one would be the best use for music specifically.
Thanks in advance.

I wanted to get tasks rom. My only issue is that I really like the stock tw music and video apps. Is there a way for me to get those stock apps on my new aopk rom? Btw, I know about the repository of the stock apk, but will they work on aopk, if i put them in system? Thanks in advance
TW and AOSP (CM, AOKP, Liquid, etc) use entirely different frameworks. Therefore, TW apps are not compatible with Task's ROM.
I wondered about that as well. It seems the only way I can get clear audio through bluetooth streaming is with TW ROMs. A brutal catch 22 for me.

The issue is the open source drivers that AOSP roms use instead of the drivers built just for the chip. This is something that always has and always will plague the open source roms. While the open source files work they do not work the best. The chips OEM holds back just enough to make sure their files will always work the best. It is just something you learn to live with.
