Hey guys,
You have probably already seen my previous work on WorldCup App for WM (WP7 Style).
This time I want to let you know that I've just published a new open source project in codeplex, called Fleux.
It's a UI engine that can provide a very smooth user experience to your C# .Net Compact Framework application, with a friendly API.
It also provides a powerful animation, and transitions engine, and features kinetic scrolling and a Panorama control.
There still work to be done, but I think the foundation is done.
I'm planning to implement more controls soon. I'm developing Fleux in my free time, and that's the main issue I have now. If any of you are interested in helping me or in using Fleux for your project, just send me a PM.
To see what I'm talking about, I've recorded a video preview.
Unfortunately, I cannot post outside links here yet, but you can watch the video in youtube if you search for "Fleux Preview".
If anybody else can please post the links to the video and the project at codeplex, that would be awesome.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Looks great! I see that its for HD2, what are the chances of running this on an Imagio? If you need beta testers, or would like to see its possibility to run on an 'older' phone, let me know. I am running the Imagio with 6.5, sense 2.1 (stock verizon rom) and just a few speed tweaks and visual updates.
And to throw down what I can, here is the video link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4iXmKc_MqQ
And the link to the website:
http://fleux.codeplex.com/
Its really wicked fast, and the potential is really something I see progressing very very far! Nice work!
Hi Jerry, thanks for posting the links.
I already answered you in the PM, just send me an email and I'll send you a CAB for testing the demo in your HTC Imagio.
Thanks again!

Will this only be for Capacitive screen phones?
It can run on any touch screen windows mobile 5+ device with .Net CF 3.5.
Obviously the smoothest run is in HTC HD2, and the current version of the Panorama control is not optimized for Square screen devices or for Landscape.
However, you can tweak your app if you're targeting slower devices for getting better performance. I'll be posting some samples showing some of those tweaks to enable building a fleux app targeting an older hardware.
I was also thinking on enable/disable features based on the hardware the app is running, but there is nothing yet about it.
Remember that this is an open source project, you can read the source code, you can play with it, you can change it according to your needs. I want to hear what you guys need for your apps, and let's work to make it possible. Fleux is already a great foundation for having an outstanding UX for your .net CF app.
Unfortunately I don't have the time for build another app showcasing it, my previous effort was a World Cup App in June, using an early panorama approach. That one got 60.000+ users, and great feedback. This time I want to be focused on the UI engine, and let you build the apps. I'm here to help.
-J
Waiting your release to try, but it seems really amazing.
Damn ! is cool...
i love it... so fast and responsive.... damn...
so great !
If you wanna take a look at it, you can download the latest source code from Fleux project site at Codeplex and build it in VS 2008. Fleux is just C# .Net CF 3.5 code.
I'm currently finishing the Pivot control (which is looking great) and then I'll start adding some other missing controls.
If any of you want a cab file with the Fleux demo, just drop me a PM with your email, and I'll send you the installer.
It's in early stages yet, but you will get the demo you can see in the video.
Awesome! I have been thinking about writing an UI Engine for a while, but this looks so great! Revive WinMo
May I use your early Version you have postet @ Codeplex to bring out a prove of concept for one of my applications?
Brandi, that would be really awesome!
Feel free to download the latest source code and play with it. Use it freely in your proof of concept and send me all the feedback you have from it. I'm sure you will need elements or features that are not implemented yet, but all that feedback will help me prioritizing my work, and I can also help you with pointers about how can you get the UX you're looking for.
You can also send me an email to jose at mobilepractices dot net explaining what UI do you have in mind and I can give some advice to speed up your work on it.
Thanks!

I usually just lurk here but I had to break my silence just to say...
WOW...AMAZING WORK!!!!
Though I recently upgraded to an Epic 4G...I would love to play with this on my Touch Pro 2 just for kicks. I really love pushing that device to it's limits for some reason.

Thank you for your open minded policies
I will do some Concept Studies and then give you a feedback to the current status of the UI!
I had pretty much the same in mind, since I saw WP7 I thought, that it cannot be impossible to have such an ui in the normal winCE environment. But you are doing a great job on this, and I don't think we need the same UI twice.
With Fleux...
You can with good knowledge of Windows Mobile create a panoramic UI to erase Original UI...
If you need some graphics...

I'm sure we all know the potential of Windows Mobile, but such an outdated UI has been making it look like the ugly and avoidable platform, even with the great efforts from HTC and some XDA devs here for changing it, tackling mostly the home screen experience.
I'm glad you like my work on this. It's great that you had the same idea in mind. Actually, I agree with you, we don't need the same nice UI twice, but we do need at least a single awesome UI, and if you have been thinking on this, I'm sure you have tons of interesting stuff to contribute with this project. I'm working on fleux in my free time, and that's my main issue right now, I don't have enough time to build all what I have in mind as fast as I want. If you can focus your work on building some of the missing stuff on fleux, that would be great. I'll be really glad to provide you all the help for the fastest ramp up and to go right to the point.

Awesome, I am on!
I'll need to spend a little time reading your code, but I am very willed to contribute some controls, UI Elements needed for this awesome UI!
So, here is my first try of a Demo programm!
Its not perfect so far, but you can see what this UI can do
Awesome work Brandi! And that was really quick. I feel that's a very good sign so far.
I've just pushed another source code change set to Codeplex, with a first approach for a Pivot control. It also has an additional template for titled groups, and some new parameters in the TextElement for text-wrapping support (without the need of using the DrawingGraphics DrawMultiline() primitive).
I'm working on a compatibility mode for enabling fleux to run on slower devices with a nice performance. That's my focus right now.
Please send me an email with your feedback about the experience of developing a fleux app. That would be definitely very useful.
Thanks!

What do you think about porting some Open-Source-Games to Wíndows Phone 7? The Source-Code is open , so it shouldn't be too hard to port these games.
There are (for example):
- Knytt Stories (not really Open-Source, but the Source-Code for a DS-Version is available on http://www.rodrigoroman.com/rrc2soft/nds_dsknytt.html)
- Battle for Wesnoth (an iOS-Version is actually available on Wesnoth iOS)
- ManiaDrive (like Trackmania, but not as good as this)
- Warzone 2100
- Glest (a little bit like Warcraft)
- Neverball (like Monkeyball)
- Secret Maryo Chronicles (Mario!)
There are many games more (like Nexuiz or Bos Wars and so on)
What do you think? Where should this be downloadable? In the Marketplace or as a hombrew-app? If it's in the marketplace, would you pay for it (just 0,99 to 1,99)?
Please keep discussions and ongoing developmental projects out of the app release forum. You could post in the Software Development section since that is for ongoing projects or help with app development.

Sorry, I clicked too fast. I wanted to post it in the "Developement-Forum". Thank's for moving.
i would play for this games and you should develop it in the marketplace
Which game would you prefer?
Secret Maryo Chronicles, Glest and Neverball
What about some of these open source emulators? Like the ones made for the HD2?

Have you used the forum search? There is another thread. ...
i would like to see stargus or wargus on WP7
But there is a problem: I haven't got my computer in the moment. So it could take a while until I could develope it. Is anybody else here, who could develope / port a game?
Neverball looks like a great one to port. I would help or try a start if you can give me some advice where to start.

You gotta download the Source from here and extract it (I prefer 7zip). Then you shut reprogram the game (I don't know in which language it's written) in C#.
There is some help for you at Code2Code (if it's written in C++ or at CodeConverter (if it's written in VB.net). If it's written in Python (OpenSource-Games are written in Python often) or another language I can't help you, I'm "speaking" VB.net, C# and C++ only (in the moment). After you've rewritten the code you've to add the tilt-functions (for the tilt-sensor which shut move the board at the end) and the touch-functions (moving camera, menu ...). I would advise you to not integrate Neverputt (which is in the package too) at the moment and develope Neverball only.
Tell me, if you're doing this; then I won't do this anymore. You can sell it yourself.
Good Luck.
If there is anybody else, who wanna "develope" one of these games (or another one) than told it to us, please.

This would be great, but Warcraft and Starcraft are not Open-Source-Games. So you can't port them (legal). But Glest is a Warcraft-like-game and is Open-Source.
It is a desktop client (package management on the phone is another topic) that aggregates existing repositories (my own basic format - currently no APT or NuGet) and provides a way to distribute homebrew applications in a more convenient manner.
this looks great! but wheres the download file?
it said "This project has no releases."
As I said in the main post, the binaries are not there yet, but you can always compile the source code yourself. Binaries will be available this weekend.
Here is the latest changeset.
Looks really good.
Downloaded, compiled, ran, downloaded the test apps. IT WORKS!! Really nice concept. I do hope you make some documentation for it. For all I know, this could be the next big thing.
Thanks. Compiled it and ran it. Works.
What i'd like to see is some kind of
- rating.
- possible to not show only screenshots but maybe short videos to demonstrate app.
- possibility to upload also source code of the xaps, so developers can decide if they want to brew this app by themselves or install "unchecked" xaps
thanks so far. i think youre on a good way!
ps: i remember last year there were big discussions microsoft wanted allow homebrew and integrate this into marketplace. hello? chevron? hello? so hopefully youre work is not for nothing.
@amannigam @oOp thanks for the feedback! It works at a very basic level - many more improvements have to be made, but that's going to happen over the weekend.
What specific documentation would you need for it?
Also, ratings sounds like a good idea. The only thing is I need to think of is a way to write those to the repository the user is exposing. Or, I could simply create a central repo/pack-ID link database on my own server that will keep a record of app ratings (can cause some problems, but I am plainly thinking of a PoC now).
I appreciate the feedback!
mwang's post about the DFT 7220 release says that the ROM includes the ability to install XAP's over the net. Homebrew like this but on phone. Just thought you'd be interested in that.
Great concept! I'll have to join in on this. I'll be setting up a repository later on.
What I feel that this project can go a really long way. So try making docs for everything that is being added. So people never lose track of anything. Also info of how to create a repo and adding the repo to app will help them jump to it easy.
Looks great! c# WPF, nothing beats this.
1. The new Mango hack allows downloading and installing XAPS directly from the OS (without a PC connected). Maybe we can use the infrastructure of your PC app and make another mobile app?
2. How can I contribute?

Will try to do that. I will put together a tool to automatically create a repo in the next hours and will make it available by tomorrow. It will be bundled as a part of MetroPack. Thanks for the feedback!
Thank you all!
yes, pls make it into a phone app
Also tell us how can we contribute to the project. Yes we will test it. But apart from that if you need any help in development or anything. Do tell us.
the weekend is almost over and still no release?
And you have my full support also
Coming this evening (Central Time). Have to do some late adjustments and bug fixes.
Got done with the repository builder tool. I decided to integrate it with MetroPack, so it's work in progress now - you can see it as RepoDev, I need to port the rest tomorrow (bindings and actual export).
For those who do not want to download the source code, the binaries will be available here. The current binaries are very raw (functionality-wise it is a PoC). Once I integrate the repo builder tool, I will make sure that packages are actually installed on the device.
Also, if you are creating a repo, make sure you read this first:
http://metropack.codeplex.com/wikipage?title=Creating a new repository
There is a breaking change related to the version format.
GREAT APP, cant wait till final build , I get force close error and cant use it for long , I want to donate some money , its not alot but all donations help.
it really has potential
I really appreciate your guys' feedback, but until there is a final release - no donations Thank you, though!
@confrontation - what were you doing to get a forced close?

I was just checking out all the fuctions of the app
During working on my project, I wrote (for testing purpose and for the future integration), a small test application called SkyDriveBrowser. I hope, source code of this project will be interesting and helpful to novice programmers.
Code is very simple (nothing fancy or colorful ) and demonstrates a few basic techniques to work with SkyDrive using MS Live component for WP7.
For my own purposes, SkyDriveItem class pay some attention to the archives, you don't need that part.
Code is completely free; you may use it in your commercial or fun projects without any limitations even mentioning my name in about box! Enjoy!
UPDATE: I've added compiled .xap to the archive.
Can you post some screenshot ?

I can but it has no sense at all. My post for developers only; it's not a complete app but useful piece of code. BTW, archive already contains a compiled .xap; you may sideload it to phone/emulator and play yourself
Oh Ok. Got it Thanks
hello forum people, well basically it’s like the Tittle says, I am currently developing a application that can save GeoLocations, then view them in augmented reality, it’s a school project and i wanted to see if someone else had developed something similar With "Windows phone 7" I’ve been searching allot of examples and stuff to get the main idea, but still not much luck, there are lots of good Android apps (like the ones I’d like to find) to guide myself in developing this app.
Project description.
-Must save geolocations with a desktop application developed in C# with visual Studio 2010.
-Augmented Reality app developed with Visual Studio (WP7), must display the text in the Geolocation with a short description.
little example.
Save a geolocation of a building, in that building there will be a meeting at 8:00 PM, the augmented reality app must show the building, the distance in Meters and the meeting description.
If someone knows of a similar project, or likes the idea post your comments, this is mainly for help, I am a bit stuck in my developing.
Actually I’ve been just testing different types of augmented reality apps and codes.
What about Nokia City Lens?
I cant try this app yet, because in mexico is not yet released. but could be a good Example, cant view the code thou.. =(

I'm from Mexico, you can "suscribe" to Nokia Beta Labs (betalabs.nokia.com) and you can get the app.
Sorry if you want some code, it is a Nokia closed project.

I can refer you to a little app that the company i am working with, ARLab, developed thanks to our SDKs, it's called ARPicBrowser. It's a bit similar to what you're talking about. It's not the same but it could bring you some insight. It is also open source, which is why i thought it would help you out. Here you can access the source code. By the way, if you're interested in augmented reality development you can check out our SDKs. You might find them useful.
Thanks!
Right now im at school, with the school Desktop PCs I can't test the code, but when i arrived home i will check on this, Thank you.
I just glanced the links you posted, is this only available to IOS & Android? no WP7 support?
